“food delivery drivers are so rude to restaurant employees!”
are they tho?
are they actually rude or are they just neurodivergent working one of the only jobs that doesn’t actively punish them for their support needs?
are they actually rude or are they just showing you the screen with all the information you need to know instead of going back and forth trying to give you that information verbally, only for you to mishear the name for the order and ask them to show you the screen anyway?
are they actually rude or do they just not know the specific protocol for picking up an order at your specific restaurant because they vary so wildly from restaurant to restaurant?
are they actually rude or are you making them the press the button that confirms that they have the order in hand before they actually have the order in hand or have even seen the order?
are they actually rude or are they reasonably upset that you just made their pay go below minimum wage by making them wait 20 minutes for you to take 5 seconds to hand them an order they can clearly see with their own eyes is already ready?
are they actually more rude to restaurant employees than restaurant employees are to them? because in my experience restaurant employees often treat us with extreme suspicion, act like we’re beneath them, and often make decisions that we are on the line for

"B.C. has become the first province in Canada, and one of a handful of jurisdictions in North America, to implement a permanent cap on fees charged by food-delivery companies.
The Food Delivery Service Fee Act has received Royal Assent in the Province of British Columbia and will now provide more cost certainty to restaurant and bar owners throughout the province.
“Shifting consumer habits throughout the pandemic led to B.C.’s restaurant industry continuously adapting to stay open and serve their customers,” said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation. “By passing legislation to make the delivery fee cap a permanent support for restaurants, we’re leading Canada in providing more stability and certainty to the sector itself, and to the delivery drivers who work within it.”
B.C.’s cap limits the fees for core services that delivery companies can charge restaurants to no more than 20% of the dollar value of an order, echoing similar permanent caps enacted by Seattle and San Francisco. Restaurant and bar owners facing ongoing challenges from the pandemic and global inflation will no longer need to worry about delivery fees as high as 30% returning when the temporary cap would have expired at the end of the year."

Disabled people shouldn't have to explain themselves. If you wouldn't question an able bodied person, why are you putting a disabled person trial over every little thing?
There's an argument over disabled people using Doordash. And people are using all sorts of explanations on why it's accessible.
Because we want the same convenience.
The issue shouldn't be about why. But why not? Those on financial assistance shouldn't have to explain themselves. They should have the same quality of life as others.
They're already on disabled income. They've already "proven" themselves. They don't need to be needled or scrutinized. If you're mad you're not getting paid enough or not enough free time- that's your issue and fight elsewhere.

“It was not always like this. Before 2019, Shaffi was earning £1,000 a week, with one platform offering a £7 hourly wage rate, with an additional £1 for every drop. Being paid to cycle around the city he grew up in seemed like a dream job. He could make £15 an hour, and sometimes up to £4,000 a month – triple what he had earned in his previous job in customer services at Waitrose. The pandemic was “heaven” for riders, he says: open roads, no safety concerns, orders galore. Then the system changed: the distribution algorithm could decide which rider was allocated to each order, introducing extra competition among couriers and driving down pay for each delivery. Deliveroo claims not to pay less than £2.90 for a single delivery, but during our shift, the pay-per-drop rate ranged from £1.80 for a quick journey to £5.70 for a six-mile round trip from Westminster to Shepherd’s Bush.”

I had someone try to do this to me today. I got a fairly high-paying order for just a single can of cat food. As soon as I accepted it, I got a call that caller ID identified as “[DeliveryCompanyRedacted] Order”, but when I picked up the call, the person on the other end claimed they were with support and told me not to pick up the order because the customer put in the wrong address and wanted to cancel, then started asking me for personal information about my account.
They didn’t even manage to get through the whole spiel explaining why they needed that information because I was so annoyed that a) they were calling me when I was trying to do my job rather than just handling it on their end & b) I could barely hear half of what they were saying that I just hung up. I didn’t even think “oh, this might be a phishing scam” until after I talked to actual support through their chat line.
I verified that the order was not in fact being canceled and proceeded with the order. When I was checking out with the order, I hadn’t even mentioned any of this when the cashier told me it was weird that another delivery driver had just come through with the exact same order from the exact same company right before me, and that’s when the suspicion that the call had been part of a scam solidified into “oh yeah this is 100% part of a scam”.
So yeah, PSA! Just be aware if you drive delivery for any of these third-party delivery services, this is a scam that’s going around. Don’t click any links, don’t give out personal information or anything ljnked to your account to customers or support. Support will not ask you for account login or bank information. Stay safe!

Word to the wise:
Hospital staff: Do not make/let random delivery people take food/items up to the rooms of patients. The drivers don't know what the patient is in for and the patients don't know where the driver or their car has been. We're out all day handling food and products around town where other people have been, you don't know who's spreading stuff around. This should be basic logic.
Delivery drivers: Seriously- ask for the nurse responsible for the patient or for literally any available other staff to take it to the patient themselves so you don't have to put anyone else at risk for what you may have inadvertently encountered prior to delivery.
I understand the staff is busy with their usual work, but this is straight up a violation of everyone's health and safety unless expressed otherwise. Delivery people (especially from third party contractors) should not have to be brushed off by the staff responsible for hospital patients just because they can't be bothered to find someone who can.
For real, I'm sick yet again because I picked something up from an area I should not have even been in- because the staff actively brushed me off and refused to help- and I'm not about to not get paid/be responsible for an unwell man not getting the food he needs.
People, don't be part of the problem.

So folks who order off of food delivery sites
I’m currently doing DoorDash to make a living, it is my only source of income while I’m waiting for employers to get back to me. There’s a few things I’ve noticed about orders I get.
First, if you plan on offering a cash tip instead of one through the app there’s no way the drivers can know that. Your order just shows up and I can tell when there’s little to no tip attached, those orders I will decline because they aren’t worth my time and effort. If you would rather give a tip in cash, leave something of a tip in the app so you have a chance of your order getting picked up. While I can’t speak for the other apps I know DoorDash at least sends 100% of the tip to the driver.
Second, think about the time of day and when you’re ordering food. There has been massive orders that I’ve turned down because it would have me driving through one of the worst traffic areas during rush hour. Even for $18 I had no interest in getting stuck in literal stopped traffic. So pay attention to time and location of your orders or it will take extra time for your order to be accepted.
Third, if you live in an area that has even a chance of being complicated to reach, i.e. apartment complexes, houses off the road, etc, leave instructions in the app. I don’t want to spent 15 minutes driving or worse walking around trying to find your place. I would rather stop and spend a minute reading a paragraph of detailed instructions than have to call you for the instructions to find you.
Fourth, home owners this is for you in particular. PUT YOUR ADDRESS SOMEWHERE VISIBLE AND LARGE ENOUGH TO SEE. If your house is not numbered there’s a chance I will leave your food at someone else’s front door and drive away. This is especially true if you have a delivery once it gets dark. The same issue occurs in apartment complexes but that is on the landlord to handle. 
Fifth, understand that you might be one of two or even three orders we pick up at once. If an order after yours is delayed for any reason I’m sorry but I cannot do anything to get you your food sooner.
Please be kind to delivery drivers, we are barely paid enough for gas and we are driving for hours on end to get people their meals. Just be kind and patient.
