i think the reason im so insistent on the idea of Jenny having kind of a troubled childhood (in a way that specifically leaves her feeling alienated from her family) is that i'm really attached to the idea that she has something of a sadness to the way she carries herself. not in like the weird romanticized 'she smiles through the pain' kind of way but in a way where she gives off the vibe of someone who has been through tough shit and lived through it. but like she's still a huge dork. she's silly and crass and kind of intentionally stupid. but not in a way where it feels air-headed and naive. but in a way where she's clearly been through hardship and chooses still to have a good time and make her own fun.
+with that i like the idea that she only comes across as genuinely carefree to Sophie, who doesn't know that many people and doesn't really know any better. like Sophie's whole worldview is so embittered and insular that for a while she can't really make sense of the idea that someone could have been through something shitty and not either hardened over or fallen apart. But like she does get it Eventually. and Jenny becomes a bit of a living emblem of the idea that she can have a future and that trauma and mental illness isn't the beginning and end of her existence.
but idk. i like the idea of Jenny approaching Helping Sophie With Her Problems in a way thats very genuinely understanding and like. Knowing. in a way that feels like solidarity as much as it does anything else. it's not just someone who for all intents and purposes has gotten off pretty easy in life condescending to someone who is insurmountably traumatized.

Getting back into photography after a few years, things are starting to come back to me quite quickly. Took this macro of a few of my car models and the only thing ruining this shot for me is my inability to have the forethought to dust them 😂 Is the shot perfect? Nah, it's unedited (and a screenshot because Tumblr can't handle good quality). But I have confidence that I can get better.
