finished shōgun last night and can I say I think this is how we should start doing white saviour narratives from now on. Like yeah you could say John Blackthorne is a white saviour but GOD is he bad at it. spends almost the entire series more like a white damsel in distress. amazing 10/10 no notes

Shōgun is one of the greatest television series I’ve ever watched. Full stop. The biggest pain right now is knowing that award season is SO FAR AWAY. I’m already prepping my For Your Considerations.

holy fucking shit. what an amazing show and an even better ending. honestly that’s the best piece of media i’ve seen in a very long time. anna sawai, cosmo jarvis and hiroyuki sanada fucking killed it every episode.

the emotion in episode ten really blew my mind. i KNEW toranaga was up to something more, but the revelation that he really was playing 4D chess with Ishido and the regents was played out so well. this show really had everything and i’m sad it ended to soon, but what a ride it’s been and what a perfect way to tie it up. that conversation between yabushige and toranaga on the cliff were so fitting and the moments on the lake with fuji and blackthorne made me tear up. just a perfect way to finish the story. 10/10, highly recommend.

I'm watching Shogun (FX) and the main white guy is the most curious mix of Tom Hardy (voice, how he carries himself, face-ish), Josh Hutcherson (face), and Seth Rogen (height, lower face with the beard).

ANNA SAWAI as TODA MARIKO SHŌGUN — 1x09: "Crimson Sky" (2024)

Anna's performance in 1x09 was, as we all know, nothing short of spectacular, but Cosmo sure answered with a gut wrenchingly stellar performance of his own in the finale.

The turn from gunhoe, balls to the wall John Blackthorne to this subdued and broken man who just lost his love was poignant. Omi was even shocked when he didn't bother to put up a fight when he asked for his weapons.

Anna and Cosmo were the true heart and soul of this show with their work together and as individual characters. I'm going to miss it so much, and I hope everyone who worked on it gets the recognition they deserve.
