Not the same anon, but Blackthorne reminds me very much of my boyfriend. They kind of look like “teddy bears”, with sad lost puppy eyes and a cute smile. They’re both very impulsive too lol

Honestly, I was expecting the show to reveal the heir was Toranaga's. Which would explain her eagerness to see him dead, and his 'niceness' to the boy and everything. (Although it would make what happens later even more of a dick move, I guess)
Also, neither would be able to say it out loud at the risk of a lawful death sentences for the dishonor and it would be something for Toranaga to relate to Mariko and John.
But oh well, I can live with the unanswered question in the show.
That would be a twist for sure. Toranaga was definitely suspicious of Ochiba being able to produce the Heir, though I can't remember if it's explicitly stated in the show.
In the book, he was on the hawking trip with her when she had her little trist with the peasant who would get her pregnant. She was disheveled as all heck when they meet up later. Ochiba explained that she fell off her horse. Toranaga has his "sure, Jan" moment then but he never really challenged the Heir's legitimacy. 🤷♀️

I really don't! A 10 image gifset with text easily takes me over an hour. If I could figure out how to apply sharpening to all layers/frames at once instead of individually, then I truly would be fast.

Not a budget issue. That was more or less the short version of what the book did as well. Though in the book we have the battle and what happens afterwards summarized for us in a little more detail.

so uh. what happened to ishido? and where does the taiko's heir fit in since toranaga becomes shogun?
In the book, Ishido is captured after the battle of Sekigahara and then buried up to his neck with him dying three days later. His head is then severed and put on display. I guess we can infer that that's what happens in the show as well? I already can't remember what was said in the show. 🤦♀️
As Shōgun he is has ultimate military authority in Japan, so he rules alongside the heir which as we know is Ochiba, but really Toranaga has all the power.
It's funny you mention the heir. They alluded to it in the show, but we don't get to hear inner monoluges so I guess she couldn't just outright say it. It's revealed towards the end of the book through Ochiba that the heir isn't really the heir but the bastard son of a peasant Ochiba slept with while on a hawking trip. The Taiko was sterile and had no other children with any of his consorts. Only Ochiba. 👀
