Wren Day, also known as Wren's Day or the Day of the Wren (Lá an Dreoilín), celebrated on St Stephen's Day.

In May 2021, I broke my ankle; in September 2023, I climbed my first…and last!…mountain. Never underestimate what a little discipline and a lot of determination can achieve. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done (and that includes four childbirths!) as I was woefully underprepared but I am so chuffed w/ myself.

I went w/ a group but I couldn’t keep up w/ them and the climbing guides told me to turn back. In an incredible moment of serendipity, a friend who had just turned up for the day to climb it again, came across me sitting on a rock feeling sorry for myself and said, “C’mon, I’ll get you up there”, and because he let me go at my own pace and stop whenever I needed to, it was exactly what I needed.

It may have taken me 10 hours to go up and down but I did it! My friend who is an experienced mountain climber quipped that he had set a personal best for his slowest climb ever. 😂

A "lost" 4,000-year-old tomb has been rediscovered on the Dingle Peninsula in Co Kerry.

The megalithic tomb known locally as Altóir na Gréine (the sun altar) was believed to have been completely destroyed in the 1840s, with its stones broken and carried away for use as building material.

While the existence of a tomb "near" Baile an Fheirtéaraigh is documented in 19th century antiquarian literature, a record of the monument's location did not exist.

An 1838 sketch of the tomb, its reputed association with the sun and its strange disappearance has been a source of intrigue for archaeologists for decades.

The folklorist has not only found the prehistoric site, but he has also discovered some of the large stones, which had been believed to have been removed, still in situ.

A number of orthostats (large upright stones) have survived, as well as a large capstone, while more may lie under the dense undergrowth.
