On January 15, 2019, lone SAS operator Christian Craighead, enters the Dusit Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, in respond to a terrorist attack. This famous photograph was seen on social media and major news outlets around the world.
Off-duty at the time, Craighead wore his combat gear over jeans and shirt when he entered the complex alone. He was able escort civilians to safety, then went back inside the hotel where he shot and killed two of the four al-Shabaab gunmen.

simon riley witnesses a terror attack
Tumblr media
this randomly came to my mind and i though i’d share it with you lol.
this is only a headcanon (!!), i won’t force anyone to believe this and i’m well aware that he’s fictional (since i’ve got so much shit for my last ghost headcanon😍)
this is inspired by the story of “obi wan nairobi”. in 2019 christian craighead, a SAS-operator stationed in kenia, witnessed a terror attack in kenia and decided to act before the police arrived. he had his gear with him, neutralized two of five terrorists and saved multiple civilians.
(masterlist)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if there would ever be a (terror) attack or a hostage taking, in public, while simon “ghost” riley is off duty and he’d witness it, that man would drop every fucking thing, rush to his car (he’s keeping his gear there. you never know) and he would walk into that bloody building like he’s fucking immortal, eliminating threat after threat.
precise shots and inaudible footsteps. this man is almost floating through the building, becoming one with his callsign. he’s becoming a ghost.
his vest is stacked with grenades and rifle magazines, the hand gun strapped to his leg as good as weightless.
adrenaline is pumping through his veins but his head is clear. he saves hostage after hostage, tugging them behind him and urging them to just run. he’d be extra careful with kids, talking to them to assure them that the man with the scary skull mask is actually there to safe and not hurt them.
by the time the police arrived almost every hostage is safely outside and the threat eliminated.
but before anyone can identity the SAS-operator who saved all those people and neutralized the threat Ghost is already gone, walking past the crime scene without his mask. He stands behind the striped police tape and listens to one of the hostages telling a police officer about the skulled ghost who saved them.
simon can’t help but smirk at that.

🌟 if you're still taking handwritten asks
🌟 what is something you’ve been proud of recently?
I've been super proud of this podcast called the Shawn Ryan Show. Shawn is an excellent interviewer who brings on the best guests to tell their stories, ranging from Special Operations veterans to CIA agents, reporters, ex-criminals, martial artists, and musicians like Deadmau5. He recently brought on an extraordinary guest named Christian Craighead, most notably recognized as Obi-Wan Nairobi. Craighead is a former British 22nd Special Air Service operator known for his heroic actions during the Nairobi DusitD2 complex terrorist attack back in January 2019.
Al-Shabaab terrorists armed with explosives, automatic weapons, and grenades attacked the complex. Craighead was in Kenya with his squadron to train the local forces and was off-duty when the attack occurred. Dressed in nothing but jeans, a casual shirt, his kit, and a balaclava, Craighead stormed the structure armed only with an assault rifle, pistol, and knife, not only practically destroying the enemy single-handedly but also bringing civilians and the wounded out of the hotel before going back in to save more. At least 21 people were killed during the attack, but if it hadn't been for the immediate action of this man, there would've been A LOT more on the count. His story is remarkable, and he is hands down one of the best guests Shawn has ever had on his show.
Bad-fucking-ass.

Damien’s Equipment + Reference 2
Hello friends! So you might we wondering, “tumblr user kaitaiga, why are you reposting this?” Well it was about 10 minutes ago I was laying here when it hit me, I USED THE WRONG/OUTDATED CAMO 🧍🏻‍♀️ anyways, let’s get back into it.
This is the latest auscam print, AMCU, which I’ll be now using on all my new posts of Damien as compared to before where I was using DPCU. Nothing wrong with it! But I believe it’s now used mainly for reserve units.
Posts continues down here, plenty of stuff ⬇️
Alternate Outfits
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah yes the all black…..he doesn't wear this very often as most of his work requires him wearing the cams. However, this outfit would be worn in domestic counter-terrorism ops if he was ever needed in Tactical Assult Group East (TAG) or alongside NSWPOL TOU. There is also a gas mask hung from the back.
Then next to it is the outdated DPCU.
Equipment
Tumblr media
Primary Weapon: M4A5. This is the standard Australian Special Forces rifle.
Secondary Weapon: HK USP Tactical. Again, standard Australian Special Forces handgun.
Close Quarters: regular tactical knife. Alongside this is a sledgehammer, not for killing, more so to breach doors without the need of explosives.
Patches
Tumblr media
Australia Patch: self explanatory
2CDO emblem: now, I couldn't find much on what patches commandos wear out on field but from what I saw it kinda changes a lot depending on what they're doing/where they're going. So I just stuck with the regular emblem.
Blackbeard Patch: now, I do believe that a lot of operators have their on reason to wear this patch, mostly SF operators, but l'm pretty sure it was made popular due to Christian Craighead (former SAS). Naturally it's to do with instilling fear upon your enemies.
Appearance
Won't go too much into it here as l've mentioned this in his profile but some key takeaways are: has a mullet and three moles.

Banned Books On My Shelves
Today’s official topic is Reading Goals I Still Want to Accomplish Before the End of the Year, but this is Banned Books Week, so I’m going rogue with Banned Books On My Shelves.
All of the books on this page have been banned or challenged in schools or public libraries at some point in my lifetime. Mind you, I haven’t listed all the banned/challenged books I have read over the years, including recently; that would be a longer list. These are just the books I currently own, either in print or digital versions. I have loved some of these and consider them keepers, and I’m looking forward to reading the others.
Print books
How To Be an Antiracist (Ibram X. Kendi)
The Last Herald-Mage trilogy (Mercedes Lackey) (not pictured because I forgot to grab it off the shelf!)
To Kill a Mocking Bird (Harper Lee)
A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine L’Engle)
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (C. S. Lewis)
Island of the Blue Dolphins (Scot O’Dell)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (J. K. Rowling) (and the whole series)
The Lord of the Rings (J. R. R. Tolkien)
The Book Thief (Markus Zuzak)
Book banners today focus on books with LGBTQIA+ content, sexually explicit books, and books that discuss race or feature BIPOC characters (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.) Back in the ’90s and noughts, there were complaints from some conservative Christians about characters who were witches or practiced magic… hence the efforts to remove the Harry Potter books, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and The Lord of the Rings. (Never mind that the Narnia books are thinly disguised Christian allegory!) And of course, not all challenges come from the right; the left has challenged books which use racial slurs or contain racist attitudes, like To Kill a Mockingbird and Huckleberry Finn (listed below.)
Digital books (Kindle or audio)
The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins)
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl (Anne Frank)
Julie of the Wolves (Jean Craighead George)
Stranger in a Strange Land (Heinlein)
Freakonomics (Levitt and Dubner)
The Call of the Wild (London)
A Court of Thorns and Roses (Maas)
A Court of Mist and Fury (Maas)
A Court of Wings and Ruin (Maas)
Wicked (Maguire)
The Golden Compass (Pullman)
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Twain)
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Twain)
The Color Purple (Walker)
I also have digital editions of most of the books I own in print.
Do you own any banned or challenged books?

The 2019 DusitD2 complex attack was a terrorist attack that occurred from 15 to 16 January 2019 in the Westlands area of Nairobi, Kenya, which left 22 civilians and all five terrorists dead.

Plus, there’s always something new to explore along the way. Taking your children on a road trip can be a great way to show them the world and inspire their sense of adventure. There are hundreds of caverns to explore in this hundreds-year-old attraction. The Lost Sea Adventure: The Lost Sea is located in Craighead Cavers, which served as a saltpeter mine back in the days of the Civil War.Harland Sanders Museum and Café: Fans of KFC will love to see where the original blend was created inside this 1940s café.Ark Encounter: You don’t have to be Christian to know about Noah’s ark, but did you know you could visit one in real life?.EnterTRAINment Junction: If your kids love Thomas the Tank Engine or just love trains in general, this stop will definitely be right up their alley.Airstream Factory: You may see a few Airstream trailer as you drive I-75, but if you want to know how they’re built, check out the Airstream Factory in Ohio.Stepping Stone Falls: This man-made structure is a dam that holds back the Flint River to form Mott Lake.Castle Rock: This scenic viewpoint in Michigan overlooks Lake Huron and features statues of Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, Babe.If you have no idea what to visit along I-75, here’s a list of some of the most popular attractions: Place those on the location squares on your Interstate 75 Bingo for a one-of-a-kind scrapbook of I-75! Main Interstate 75 Attractions
Weather chicago free#
As you visit each place, buy or find a free sticker that says something about that location. You can also write down the locations you’re going to visit on I-75. Fill the other squares with things you might see on your route. It’s simple!ĭraw a large square on a piece of paper, with 5 squares across for the letters “B-I-N-G-O.” Place a “FREE” spot in the center square. If you’re stuck on I-75 and want to pass the time, you can create your own I-75 Bingo. Then again, you might wake up to a clear sky in the morning and walk out to overcast clouds and wind just a few hours later. Moderate rain may occur as winter turns to spring. The southern states (parts of Kentucky, Georgia, and Florida) along the I-75 tend to receive rain and similar weather conditions related to high humidity levels. The overcast clouds of Michigan give way to a few clouds as you travel south towards Florida. For example, when you enter each state, you may experience heavy rain, chilling snow storms, or tropical light rain. It’s hard to say what kind of weather conditions you can expect along I-75. Broken Clouds, A Few Clouds, and Miami Sunshine The cost was estimated to be over $3 million to finish the original section of I-75, but the final section, named Alligator Alley, wasn’t completed until 1992. Though it was originally supposed to stop at Tampa, the Interstate Highway System elected to extend the I-75 to Miami. However, it stops just short of I-95 in Miami, which is the longest north-south interstate. There are many climates on this route, which passes through Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan up to the Canadian border. As the second longest north-south highway in the nation at 1,786 miles long and interstate 75 runs from Michigan all the way down to Florida.
