GingerFresh grasp the Lesson of Sustainability by Reducing Wastage Drastically!
In today’s fast-paced and ever-changing restaurant industry, it’s essential for restaurants to operate efficiently and with minimal wastage. This not only helps to save money but also helps to reduce the restaurant’s impact on the environment.
GingerFresh is a celebration of Indo-Chinese cuisine that has been a game-changer in the restaurant industry in Canada.
The company adheres to the motto of “operating slim with minimal wastage” and they do just that. The company was founded on the belief that you can reduce waste, increase efficiency, and still make a profit.
Here’s how We manage to adhere to reduce waste
Plan for the Day
At GingerFresh, each day starts with a well-thought-out plan. The restaurant’s management team closely studies the previous day’s sales and customer trends to determine what ingredients to order for the day. By doing this, the restaurant is able to minimize the amount of food that goes to waste and ensures that there is always enough food to meet the customers’ needs.
We analyse daily orders that we receive from the app and keep the raw ingredients ready only to serve that many people. Weekends are planned according to the average rush of every weekend.
Observe Customer Trends
GingerFresh takes the time to observe its customers’ trends and preferences. The restaurant’s staff is trained to pay attention to what dishes are selling well and what dishes are not. By doing this, the restaurant is able to make informed decisions about what ingredients to order, reducing the amount of food that goes to waste.
The restaurant also tries to be sustainable, with products that are locally sourced, seasonal, free from pesticides and herbicides, and ethically produced.
GingerFresh is committed to providing these products to their customers, and as a result, have been operating with minimal wastage.
Study the Numbers
GingerFresh conducts regular analyses of its sales data to identify any trends or patterns. The restaurant’s management team uses this information to make informed decisions about inventory management and ingredient ordering. By studying the numbers, the restaurant is able to operate more efficiently, reducing waste and saving money.
The first step is to track food cost. This includes the cost of ingredients, labour, and other overhead costs associated with running the business. Once you know your food cost, you can start to make changes to reduce wastage and improve margins.
Once you’ve got a handle on food cost, we track labour costs including wages and other associated costs such as superannuation and workers’ compensation. As with food cost, the goal here is to reduce wastage and improve margins.
We ensure that our staff is properly trained and efficient in their roles. Another way is to use technology to automate simple tasks such as taking orders or payments.
Know Your Customers
At GingerFresh, the staff takes the time to get to know its customers and understand their preferences. By doing this, the restaurant is able to tailor its menu to meet its customers’ needs, ensuring that the dishes that are popular are always in stock. This not only helps to reduce waste but also helps to create a loyal customer base.
The restaurant owners remember that their customer base can change over time. As the business grows and evolves, it needs to understand the target market based on the changing trends in the industry. Introducing fresh and new food items that help the business thrive.
GingerFresh has been operating slim with minimal wastage by closely observing its customers’ trends, studying its sales data, and getting to know its customers. By doing this, the restaurant has not only saved money but has also reduced its impact on the environment.
Are you a fan of GingerFresh’s authentic Indo-Chinese food? How do you think the restaurant’s approach to reducing waste has affected your dining experience? Let us know in the comments below.

Poor man’s ginger beef tonight at my husbands request.
Today I learned that ginger beef is actually Canadian-Chinese cuisine and was probably first made in Calgary! So that is super interesting for me as an Alberta girl.

Top Places to Visit in Varsity, Calgary
Varsity is an established neighborhood in the Northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It was developed in the 1960s and early 1970s on a plateau to the north of the Bow River valley and is primarily composed of Single-detached dwellings on wide lots. The neighborhood comprises three major areas: Varsity Acres, Varsity Village, and Varsity Estates. Varsity is bounded on the north and east by Crowchild Trail, on the west by the Bow River, and on the south by 32nd Avenue NW. It borders the neighborhoods of Silver Springs and Bowness on the west side, and both Montgomery and the University of Calgary campus on the south side. Professional shared office space.
Matador Pizza
Original founder, George Tsares, knew back in 1976, that he wanted to make a great pizza for the under-serviced community of Varsity. He knew that his ‘Greek-style’ pizza crust would be a hit, but he didn’t have a name or location for his soon to be famous pizzeria.
Eventually his search led to our location in what is now the far end of the dining room. He walked in and was struck by the old, white stucco arches along the original walls. He said he felt like he was in a bullfighter’s ring in Spain…Ole! The name ‘Matador’ was born.
For the next 35 years, George continued to build the Matador Pizza brand which has become a staple in the Northwest and specifically in the great community of Varsity. Starting out as just a small pick-up window, the restaurant has undergone 3 separate expansions resulting in the family-style pizza & steakhouse and lounge that exists today.

The Benefits of Shopping at Chinese Meat Markets in Calgary
In general, meat markets can offer a wide range of meat products that are often fresh and reasonably priced. Chinese meat markets, in particular, may offer a variety of cuts and types of meat that are not commonly found in mainstream grocery stores. Additionally, some people enjoy the cultural experience of shopping at these markets and the opportunity to try new types of cuisine.
However, it is important to note that some meat markets, including Chinese meat markets, have been associated with food safety issues. The handling and preparation of meat in these markets may not always meet Canadian food safety standards, which can increase the risk of foodborne illnesses. Additionally, some Chinese meat Shops have been criticized for selling exotic meats, such as pangolins and bats, which may increase the risk of zoonotic diseases.
Consuming meat, in general, carries health risks, including the potential for increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and certain types of cancer. Therefore, it is important to consume meat in moderation and to prioritize lean meats and plant-based protein sources in your diet.
Ultimately, it is up to individual consumers to weigh the potential benefits and risks of shopping at meat markets, including Chinese meat markets, and to make informed decisions about the foods they consume. It is always advisable to follow safe food handling practices, such as washing hands and cooking meat to appropriate temperatures, to minimize the risk of foodborne illnesses.

Taste and Consistency for GingerFresh is Everything and, the commitment is real!
GingerFresh, a popular Indo-Chinese restaurant in Canada, has built a reputation for serving delicious and authentic cuisine. But for GingerFresh, it's not just about the taste, it's about ensuring that the taste and consistency in quality and texture are the best that they can be, every day, every time!
Here are some measures that the GingerFresh takes to live up to its top billing:
Setting up the High Benchmark for the Taste
GingerFresh sets a high benchmark for taste by using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients. The restaurant's chefs take the time to select the best ingredients, from the freshest vegetables to the finest spices, to ensure that every dish is bursting with flavour. The cuisine is renowned for its diversity in flavors, aromatic spices, and nutritional value. The use of natural blended herbs has set new benchmarks in taste and given fillip to the pleasing aroma too.
Focus on Authenticity
GingerFresh is passionate about serving authentic Indo-Chinese cuisine and this is reflected in its menu. The restaurant's chefs use traditional cooking methods and authentic spices to create dishes that are true to the cuisine's roots. The cuisine drives senses mad as one goes scurrying for water and superlatives in equal measure.
Believe in In-House Sauces
GingerFresh believes in making its sauces in-house, using only the freshest ingredients. This not only helps to ensure that the sauces are of the highest quality but also allows the restaurant to control the flavour and consistency of its dishes.
Interestingly, the sauces are a blend of Chinese soya sauces and Indian spicy mixes that make them part of uniquely authentic Indo-Chinese food. The restaurant has received tremendous feedback on tickling the tastebuds with a unique taste that sets it apart in the niche industry.
Follow the Best Process
GingerFresh follows a rigorous process to ensure that the taste and consistency of its dishes are the best that they can be. The restaurant's chefs are trained in the art of cooking and are held to the highest standards. From the way the ingredients are prepared to the way the dishes are cooked, every step is taken to ensure that the taste and consistency are perfect. The quality standards followed by the restaurant while cooking are impeccable while the presentation is out-of the-world. They ensure that the delivery is prompt and within the stipulated timeline so that the guests are not kept hungry for long!
Repeat the Best Practices Every day, Every time
GingerFresh is committed to repeating its best practices every day, every time, to ensure that its customers receive the same delicious and authentic experience, every time they dine at the restaurant.
The chefs are trained to deliver the same experience that has made the name in Indo-Chinese food and propelled it to new heights. GingerFresh serves the yummiest versions of trusted recipes with vinegar and soy ruling the roost on several palates. The standard practices in serving hakka noodles, schezwan appetizers, or plain old dumplings are the same.
Conclusion

And here's the accompanying chibi to last night's, here is Calvin with his favourite ginger beef! If you made it to the stream, thanks for dropping by :)
There's nothing particularly "Canadian" about the ingredients, but the unique part of this made-in-Calgary dish is the thin, deep fried strips of beef.
It's very interesting that both of our signature dishes seem to have emerged around the 70s-80s from Northern Chinese cuisine, I'm not sure if that says more about dishes we like or maybe the demographics of people determining our signature dishes but nonetheless both of them are delicious and definitely try em out.
