HOPE AND CONNECTION—IN PRISON AND OUT
Incarceration can strain family ties to the breaking point. By providing Christmas gifts on behalf of incarcerated parents, sending kids to summer camp, hosting sports camps, and other activities, Prison Fellowship Angel Tree allows local congregations to extend the hope of the Gospel to families with loved ones in prison.
In addition, Angel Tree® invites and equips congregations to integrate Angel Tree families into church activities year-round, resulting in mutually beneficial relationships that foster growth, support, and encouragement.

Jsyk cause it was the first result on google when I searched up a charity, the website charitynavigator.org is a garbage website. Autism Speaks, a hate group, got a 100% rating on the site. So yeah, it's a bad site.

Charity Navigator (CharityNavigator.org) should be ashamed. Follow me on my journey…
I went looking for good charities to support humanitarian aid in Gaza. Decided to check out Charity Navigator as they’re usually helpful for finding reputable charities…
This is their landing page:
Tumblr media
Great! I think as I click on the link for “Humanitarian Crisis in Israel and Gaza”.
New page pops up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, sounds good. Expert analysts you say? Hand picked charities? Alright! What do you have for me?
I scrolled down and found exactly 2 - - TWO - - charities on the list. Here they are:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
End of list. No Doctors Without Borders. No Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. Not a single charity doing a single thing in Gaza. Nothing. Charity Navigator’s team of expert analysts made a “list” of charities addressing the “Humanitarian Crisis in Israel and Gaza” that conspicuously excludes any charity actually providing humanitarian aid in Gaza.
I have no words for my level of disappointment.

I am confused
Maybe someone can explain this.
We've all heard stories about terrible charities - they don't do what they're supposed to, they're awful to people, the money they get goes to execs instead of support. Of course, that's hearsay.
For years I've been seeing recommendations to use Charity Navigator to vet before donating. I finally got around to checking the site.
There's just one problem. Every charity I've heard terrible things about is coming up with a rating in the 90s. All but one (Value Village is unrated). And while it's easy to be mislead by hearsay, I have trouble with the notion that all the stories are wrong.
The charities I checked that came up with high ratings:
Goodwill - 100%
Salvation Army - 100%
Susan G. Komen - 97%
American Red Cross - 99%
PETA - 97%
Really? Really? All of them?
It looks to me that either there's a massive smear campaign going on against these charities, which seems very unlikely given the scope and years involved, or the metrics that Charity Navigator is using are inadequate.
Maybe these charities do hit every mark that Charity Navigator is measuring. But if they are so terrible to people (or animals), if the stories are so bad, shouldn't a trusted rater be looking into that as well? Is Charity Navigator really an adequate measure?

AM I SPREADING MISINFORMATION?
I’ve been blogging for over 20 years, and in those years I’ve managed to piss quite a few people off. I’m actually proud of that because if you piss people off, it means they give a damn. Look at it this way: the worst thing that can happen to someone who creates content, is to be ignored. Crickets. It’s the sound of one hand clapping. I am outspoken and I like it when those who don’t agree with…

Hello! I'm Julie from Cariona and I just want to ask if you're interested in doing ads/promotions here on Tumblr? If yes, how much do you charge per reblog?
For proof of legitimate promotions, you can check @catchymemes, @sulfatto, @isnt, and many others.
Website for reference: http://cariona.com Over 200 five star Facebook reviews: https://www.facebook.com/carionaproducts/reviews
Please feel free to respond here or reach out to us on [email protected] for more details! Thank you once again and have a great week!
absolutely fascinating that you decided to send this as an ask, when you also DM'd me. unfortunately, you may realize that this was a mistake - you see, asks can be responded to publicly.
so, allow me to respond:
hi, Julie! I'd never heard about Cariona before, so I decided to go poking around, and I learned something!
well, I learned a few things, actually. from your site, Cariona seems to be a small business that sells reusable menstrual products. and while I will never advertise a product that I haven't used, there's nothing wrong with wanting people to promote your company.
I have, however, found a few problems.
the first thing I found was this post by @crafiet from May 12th of last year, saying that shortly after making a purchase on your website, her debit card info was leaked, and used to make facebook ad purchases.
it seems that at least back then, your payment system was insecure. I'm really hoping you've fixed that, because. yikes.
and when I messaged crafiet to ask if it was okay if I linked to her post, she also mentioned that even though your website says you ship from Georgia, her package came shipped from China, and took a long time to arrive.
that's pretty sketchy.
the next thing I found was some folks talking about receiving cards with their orders that have a QR code on them with the words "Scan For God's Message To You", and that on the other side, have this bible verse:
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is. Psalm 63:1
fun fact! that's from the King James Version (which I have a lot of thoughts about, but I'm not going to get into that right now).
additional fun fact! that particular psalm is from that time David fled to the wilderness because Jonathan's dad was trying to kill him.
and that's why I have to talk about the verses that follow it:
Tumblr media
(ID in alt text; link to the NIV version if you want it)
so...are we like 100% sure it's god that David is thinking about here? because...I mean...that's pretty horny, right? and all of this while on the run from his boyfriend's dad?
I'm not saying anything, but like...¯\_(ツ)_/¯
it's a weird verse to choose for this, that's all.
anyway, back to you, Cariona: after seeing people talking about the bible verse cards, I decided to poke around your website more, and allll the way at the bottom of it, finally found your "About Us" page, which ends with this:
Tumblr media
...look. there's nothing inherently wrong with being christian. but to say "we do not wish to impose any beliefs on our customers", and to then put bible verse cards in people's orders? that's sneaky, and I don't like it.
I also think it's a bit sneaky that you've flagged your tumblr account as pro-trans on shinigami eyes. at least, I assume you flagged it yourselves, because I didn't find a single post on your blog that mentions trans issues.
(though you have, entertainingly, reblogged some stranger things fanart, and a castiel cat cosplay)
and while your website uses very gender-neutral language, your "About Us" page doesn't say anything about being inclusive of trans people, just that you don't "discriminate against anyone who has a different belief than ours."
unfortunately, that's not good enough for me. I have this sneaking suspicion that "trans people are the gender they say they are" counts as a "different belief".
lastly, since you say on your website that people can message you asking about your faith, I had a friend do that!
baptists. you're baptists, which is a pretty conservative denomination.
and according to you, part of that 10% you donate goes to your local churches, and some missionaries. who are also probably baptists.
so.
in the end, I just...don't trust you? I don't trust that the 10% you're donating is going to organizations that aren't homophobic or transphobic. I don't believe that you're not trying to impose your beliefs on others, because that's what you're obviously doing. I mean, your "About Me" says that one of the reasons you built this company is to spread the gospel.
and I especially don't like it that you reached out to me (an openly queer person) for promotion without mentioning that you're an evangelical company.
so to answer your question, Julie: no. I am not interested in doing ads or promotions for you on tumblr. and honestly, you probably picked the wrong website for this kind of thing.

Charities
Below are some recommended charities for donations for our fundraiser @dreamlingforukraine. These organizations are personally vouched for as being legitimate by @wintersmitth (Ukrainian Dreamling friend and resident of Kyiv) and verified by @quillingwords (someone who does due diligence for a living). All take direct bank transfers and three take PayPal.
Helping to Leave: charity with a focus on evacuations - their mission is to keep Ukrainians safe and meet their immediate needs. They operate under all circumstances and are currently focused on helping the flood-affected areas.
United24: established by President Zelenskyy and the official fundraising platform for Ukraine. Their work covers various areas, from defense to rebuilding to arts and sciences.
Hospitallers Medical Battalion: combat-zone medical service comprised of paramedic volunteers. They continue to operate in areas where ceasefire agreements are not honored (where other humanitarian groups had pulled out) and currently need funds for vehicles and equipment.
UAnimals: animal rights organization that help animals in Ukraine - anything from displaced pets to farm animals to animals in zoos. Their work is critically important now given the damage done by flooding.
These organizations are all confirmed to be doing excellent work on the ground. However, if you would prefer to donate to a different organization that is of course very welcome! In that case, please provide some information on them when confirming the commission just so we can confirm they’re appropriate for the cause.

I'm asking for your help to provide urgent relief to Holocaust survivor families and others facing life-threatening hunger. When you give to The Joshua Fund, your donations feed the hungry, care for Holocaust survivors, protect the unborn, purchase medical equipment, provide for widows and orphans, and so much more. Founded by best-selling author Joel C. Rosenberg and his wife Lynn in 2006, The Joshua Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to blessing Israel and Her Neighbors in the name of Jesus, according to Genesis 12:1-3.

SOVAS or ONE VOICE AWARDS? WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE?
Thousands entered, and a few have been nominated. If you’ve been on social media lately, you must have seen all those humbled, grateful, and elated people telling you they’re up for a One Voice USA Award.  It may be mildly annoying to see this wave of shameless self-promotion, but these people are smart because only one can be a winner in each category, so, now is the time to market the heck out…
