The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lost another key aide, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Mandana Dayani, 40, this weekend stepped down as president of Archewell, the couple's media empire and charitable foundation.

A spokeswoman for Meghan and Harry last night said the pair would 'take full lead of their company'.

With her US media connections, the Iranian-born activist was considered one of the Duke and Duchess's most important advisers.

She has been at Archewell, where she oversaw day-to-day operations, for less than 18 months.

Her surprise exit comes only days before a bombshell six-part documentary series about the couple's acrimonious split from the Royal Family – produced by Archewell and streaming giant Netflix – is released online.

Ms Dayani is the latest of at least 13 top staff to leave the Duke and Duchess since 2018.

Toya Holness, Archewell's global press secretary, parted company with the Sussexes earlier this year, while Catherine St-Laurent, their chief of staff and a director of Archewell, left in March last year after little over 12 months in the role.

In a statement, Ashley Hansen, Meghan and Harry's global press secretary, last night said that Ms Dayani 'has been an integral part of Archewell and we are grateful for her passion, commitment and leadership'.

She added: 'Ms Dayani was brought on during their parental leave to move the company and its projects forward.

'She has continued to shape its vision and future successfully. Her transition was mutually planned, with intent for the Duke and Duchess to now take full lead of their company.

'There will be no replacement for this position, and Ms Dayani is fully supportive of the Duke and Duchess in their new leadership roles, and they remain friends.'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first hired an Oscar-nominated director for their still-to-air Netflix series before they had a falling out and she left, it was claimed today.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had turned to Garrett Bradley, director of the critically acclaimed Netflix series about tennis prodigy Naomi Osaka – but they reportedly clashed over the direction of the show.

A TV insider told the New York Post: 'Garrett wanted Harry and Meghan to film at home and they were not comfortable doing that. There were a few sticky moments between them, and Garrett left the project. Harry and Meghan's own production company captured as much footage as they could before Liz Garbus was hired.'

Garbus, who was also due to work on the Duchess' series Pearl before it was scrapped by Netflix, is a Left-leaning documentarian and filmmaker and also helmed the last season of The Handmaid's Tale, which earned her an Emmy nomination in 2021.

CLAYTON, NY – The St. Lawrence Seaway is open for the season. Icebreakers have been in the channel, clearing the way for ships to navigate from Montreal to Lake Ontario.

The first bulk carrier into the seaway was the Captain Henry Jackman, entering at Montreal and making its way to Lake Ontario. A few other bulk carriers soon followed and are in the channel Wednesday.

ST. CATHERINES, ON – James Ryan worked his way through the seafarer ranks to earn his role as captain. For eight years, he has commanded ships with Canada Steamship Lines (CSL), but this season, his preparation as captain of the CSL St-Laurent was a bit fancier than usual. In the form of a black beaver pelt top hat. Alongside the ship’s chief engineer, Montreal’s Stoyan Vlaev, the pair took part in their first official top hat ceremony in St. Catharines Wednesday morning, as a crowd of a hundred or so visitors — in naval tradition — tipped their hats in a show of greeting and respect. The annual tradition, in which a symbolic top hat is presented to the captain of the first upbound and downbound vessels, marks the beginning of the new Welland Canal shipping season. To celebrate, ceremonies were held at St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre at Lock 3 and at Lock 8 Gateway Park in Port Colborne. Ryan and Vlaev were appointed this season to the 36,364-tonne CSL St-Laurent, a bulk carrier built in 2014. Having left the hospital from visiting ‘the residence’ as she has chosen to name them, Lisette was in need of coffee and carbs. Though spending time seeing that Varden was improving should have put her in a better mood, it was only diminished as she saw Laurent had nether improved or worsened. Of her four hour time in St Catherine’s Hospital- three and a half of them had just been at Laurent’s bed side. It was now a routine she preformed twice a week- with an occasional third day just with Laurent for an hour.

Moving out of the hospital and down the street, the French woman felt her mind in so many places that her feet seemed to move on auto piolet. Unaware of her surroundings, her security caught her arm to pull her back from nearly stepping off into the street without looking, “Shit, that was close,” she curses under her breath placing her hands on her hips and taking a deep breath. All but praying no one saw her near accident.

Belle de Jour

If it had a throbbingly romantic score, you’d almost think Luis Buñuel’s BELLE DE JOUR (1968, TCM, Max, Criterion Channel) was the last word in elegant romantic drama. The mostly upper middle-class characters move through pristinely decorated rooms. The heroine is dressed in the latest Yves St. Laurent styles. And Sacha Vierny’s camera glides serenely through it all. But this is in many ways a deconstruction of the myths of romantic drama, the idea that love will always find a way and the role of class in making romantic confusion possible. Working from a melodramatic novel by Joseph Kessel, Buñuel and co-writer Jean-Claude Carriere, in their first collaboration, present a markedly cockeyed view of romance among the well-off.

Severine (Catherine Deneuve) and her surgeon husband Pierre (Jean Sorel) have been married for a year and either haven’t consummated their marriage or haven’t engaged in mutually enjoyable sexual relations. Instead, she has a vivid fantasy life in which various males, including her gentlemanly to a fault husband, humiliate her in ways she finds arousing. Hearing of an acquaintance who’s moonlighting in a brothel, she hunts down one run by a chic lesbian (Genevieve Page) and arranges to work there afternoons under the name “Belle de Jour,” which means afternoon beauty but also is a play on “belle de nuit,” meaning prostitute. In the brothel, she’s able to indulge her fantasies in real life and finds herself opening up more to her husband, particularly after her encounters with a magnetic thug (Pierre Clementi). You can almost envision a 1950s Hollywood-style film poster with Dorothy Malone or Lana Turner saying, “You can call me a slut, but it saved my marriage.”

Buñuel cuts fluidly between Deneuve’s real world and her fantasies, with only the sound of carriage bells as a clue that we’ve entered her dream world. There are also a few quick glimpses of her childhood that might suggest the source of her pathology. I don’t think they do, nor do I feel any great need to delve into that. Although Deneuve breathes life into the character and develops a persuasive arc for Severine, I don’t think we need to understand why she acts as she does. She is, and she acts. That’s all that matters. Her motivation is as open as the often-asked question of what’s buzzing in the Japanese john’s lacquered box. It’s just there, and what matters is that after it leads the other women in the brothel to reject him, it helps make him the first client to give Deneuve any real pleasure. She finds middle-class romance by moving in the opposite direction.
