So I wrote a quick little short fic about THIS cute comic by @uhuraborealis. I wrote it just now in like 10 minutes so it's not edited, but you can read it under the cut!
Vulcans Tell No Lies
Spock knows that when Jim approaches him with a look like that, nothing good is going to come of it.
“Spock,” Jim asks, voice full of wonder and eyes full of stars. “Can you meld with the Enterprise? Tell her I love her?”
Spock considers the captain for a moment. It’s not something he’s thought about—mind-melding with a ship. He doesn’t really think that anything would happen, as much as he’s touched the console and felt nothing in response. He knows that humans refer to ships as female and often personify them out of loneliness or a need for bonding. He doesn’t understand why humans can’t just appreciate a machine for the tasks it performs, but seeing as much as Dr. McCoy tries to project his human emotions on Spock himself, he supposes that it must just be second nature to them.
He indulges in a more human tendency, seeing as it was just him and Jim, and sighs. It cannot hurt to try, if not for the very least on the premise of scientific discovery, and it’s not like there’s anyone around to judge him.
“Fine.” He agrees rather bluntly, but Jim just looks at him, enthralled.
Spock supposes, as he places a hand on the console, that he can always lie for the sake of appeasing Jim. Vulcans do not lie, but as McCoy always points out, Spock is only half-vulcan, and half-vulcans can bend the truth.
However, as he reaches out for what he can find of the consciousness of the Enterprise, he finds that he has no reason to lie. He is so caught off guard by the discovery as some form of being reaches back towards him, that he is overwhelmed by the experience.
The Enterprise does not think in the same way, with clear structure, intent, or words. No, she thinks with colors and emotions, bright and loud, filling up his senses. She is overwhelmingly a she, and she imparts him with the notion that she will tolerate nothing less from him, even if it means zapping him through the console like a misbehaving child.
He supposes that might be the best way to describe the way she feels about the crew—as children. They are all so much smaller than her, and she cares for them, treating them as gently as she can. In return, they treat her with love and respect and keep her in working order. If Dr. McCoy would stop hitting the biobed display screens when he was frustrated, she would appreciate that, though.
After taking a moment to reign the sensory flood back in, Spock organizes his mind and sends a specific train of thought to her. The words do not translate to her, so he tries to phrase them in a way she would understand, thinking of command gold, bright eyes, and a happy spirit. He focuses on the general sense of cheer, well-being, and concern that Jim carries for every member of his crew, but also on the horribly mushy feeling Spock gets on the inside when thinking about him.
Color ripples across his vision, something like laughter, and he thinks she gets the point. The reply he gets in return is what he sent tenfold—a tidal wave of things he could not possibly put into words and yet understands perfectly. He thanks her, sending a bright wave of gratitude radiating warmly from deep inside him, and pulls away.
He opens his eyes and looks over to Jim, who is waiting patiently. Curiosity and excitement dance in his eyes. There is no possible way to convey what he experienced in what felt like hours but was probably only seconds, so instead he says, “She loves you back.”
When Jim beams at him, smile wide and eyes glistening, Spock is glad it is no lie at all.

Reminder that the hd remaster(?) Rerelease of both Baten Kaitos games is coming out on the Switch in like, 4 days.
Listen, the advertising wasn't that great, and even if the original voice acting of the first game was awful (but so funny and charming imo, the 'so bad it's good'), the second game honestly has some of THE best voice acting in any game I've played. Such as the main character being voiced by Crawford Wilson (guy who voiced Jet in ATLA,) or another important character being voiced by Shanelle Workman Grey (voiced Larxenne in KH.) And so much more.
The gameplay itself is a card based rpg that's very fun and fast paced! It's easy to get a hold of and influences the story itself and the world, and I've never seen anything else come remotely close to it (which is honestly why chain of memories disappointed me so much lol, like, Baten Kaitos is such a gold standard for card games.) The first game is a bit slower, while the 2nd game (the prequel) is a lot faster and has some small differences but overall it's the same principles. Combos, downward or upward counting, paring the right elements, multiples and so on. Also deck organization! As well as maintaining stuff in the real world/real time since things can spoil or change over time.
The ART direction is absolutely gorgeous, using 2d backgrounds with moving 3d models, think chrono trigger. With I believe are Arabic and Mediterranean (?) Influences, and cartography. As well as a buncha weird mixed media stuff! Honestly you can find a lot to gnaw on art wise since Baten Kaitos isn't afraid to get weird and funky! With some places looking like standard fantasy land, gorgeous cloudscape, playdough world, multiple mirror worlds, a land made of sweets and the list just keeps going. One of the most beautiful games ever, really. It's up their with TWEWY, KH, Ni No Kuni, Skyward Sword, Wind Waker, BioShock, just a whole lotta games known for their aesthetic choices.
The characters are also super solid! Solid jrpg ragtag band/trio! I love them all so much, they're all so weird and vary from age and backgrounds so again if you're into any final fantasy game or other jrpgs you'll be right at home. The story in the first game, Wings is very solid with a neat twist, and then it's made richer after when you play the 2nd game, Origins (the prequel) which gives more insight and a crazier twist... Kinda gives u a bittersweetness at the end too. Please play Eternal Wings before Origins.
And lastly; The MUSIC. My god.
It's just... Chef's kiss. Honestly one of my favourite soundtracks of ALL DAMN TIME I think I'd die happy listening to Castle in the Sand before I go. Again, like the art direction, it's a grab bag of different genres, with it mostly being rock/speedrock, orchestral-esk grand pieces with organs and harpsichord, the occasional weird synths and keyboards, to funkier grooves. Evidential Material, Chaotic Dance, both of the battle themes for each game, Castle in the Sand, Valley of the Wind- literally has no skips!! It's all honestly imo, the best of Motoi Sakuraba's work, so if your into any of his, be it the Tales games or Dark Souls you'll get it all.
Unfortunately, the game doesn't seem to be getting a physical release in the US, potential a limited run in Europe, and mostly in Asia is getting copies which is a damn shame since they already took out the voice acting, and probably didn't even do much to really remaster it. I believe it'll mostly be a basic, if a little lacking, port, but even then! I encourage people to get it! Developed by the same people who worked on the xenosaga, then onto botw in some ways and more. It's like, an origin point so so many iconic creators and developers in jrpgs as a whole. I'm honestly just happy enough to see it survive past the GameCube. Which, while STILL the best way to enjoy and experience it, isn't as viable for it to survive. So yes, I'm glad it's being preserved and hope to see many new fans prop up!! Please come join in the like, 5 people still here lol. We're few but passionate! It's like, a cornerstone of my entire life unironically. Kinda like how KH or Zelda is for anyone else.
So... Please give the Baten Kaitos 1&2 HD remasters a shot! Or at least just listen to the music damn.

She...doesn't feel better, really. She stopped the heavy crying, sure, but she hasn't fully calmed down. It might take her some time...no one can blame her: personal jabs at her regarding her familial issues just...triggered something horrible in her, and she still feels very hurt. Now she's just tired...she needs the rest.
"...she's been crying for two hours, Alastor: we can't even calm her down."
"..."
"Alastor? Hon?"
"...I..."
...the smile on his face dropped the moment Sam closed her eyes, and he wiped her tears.
He had to stay strong for his little girl...his little girl. He never would've thought he would use those three words when speaking about her. Yet he simply did so, and it made him all the more soft. She was sweet, quiet, and had bursts of energy: he admired that. She was a good dancer, a singer, and loved anything about the Roaring Twenties: but she clung to him and trusted him, and that's what drew him to her.
This was his adoptive daughter now...his and DT's. He had to show her love, and not break promises. She didn't have to worry about him and DT drinking...which was good.
He was swarmed in his thoughts, he was tuning them out unintentionally. He was focused on getting Sam to calm down, but the more she cried, the more his heart shattered.
"...I failed her."
The tears said it all: literal. Tears. He cared for her more than he let on, and it was making him sentimental...in the best ways, however.
"You didn't fail her, hon."
"I did. I should've been there when that wretched anon shattered her with their commentary. I should've been there to comfort her sooner...but I wasn't."
"That doesn't mean you failed her. You found out when you could, and what matters is that she's safe in your arms. That she calms down."
"...but what if she doesn't...?"
"...you're going to hate this idea."
"How so...?"
"If she doesn't calm down in the next twenty minutes, we...we take her to Black Hat."
"...Black Hat."
There's fear and nervousness in his voice now. They tried to ease their husband by gently placing their hand on his leg.
"If she doesn't calm down. If she does, then disregard. I mean...everyone has already tried getting her to calm down, or talk...Mordecai hugged her for Christ's sake, and that didn't work! Ghirahim tried calming her by taking her hair down, but also nothing! Another person she confides in is Black Hat. He'll surely be able to calm her."
"...if you say so, my love."
"We'll get her through this...trust me."

Comparing JP and EN Ace Attorney 4
I fell into a rabbit hole looking for some Ace Attorney essays, and ended up finding a barely-reblogged set of posts comparing the Japanese to English text of Ace Attorney 4. I thought it might be interesting to highlight them considering the Ace Attorney 456 re-release.
Parts 4, 5 and 6 are where things get really interesting.
Apparently in Japanese, Ema refers to Klavier as jara jara oniisan (jingle jangle man) and Jarajarashita kenji-san (Kenji means prosecutor).
In Turnabout Serenade, there's a part in Japanese where Klavier (Kyouya) deduces that Romaine LeTouse could not finish his sentence before he died. This doesn't exist at all in English.
Japanese: Mokugeki…..Mega….mi (Eyewitness…Goddess) –> Mokugeki ….Mega….Mi(rarenai) (Witness….is not able to see)
Kyouya: His last words, the last part was lost to the darkness because the god of death was grasping onto the victim’s throat. What he wanted to say was INCOMPLETE!
Some of the part where Apollo and Daryan discuss Klavier is extremely different in Japanese.
In English, Daryan says: He may look flashy and showy but he’s as straight as an arrow….’Cept when he’s depressed.
But in Japanese, he says: He looks like he’s flashy and stuff but he’s so forward it’s depressing. No…in reality, he’s a gloomy person.
In English, it seems like Klavier is only depressed occasionally, whereas in Japanese it suggests that he's usually depressed but pretends not to be.
I wonder why they changed this part?
Klavier: Interpreter? I’m afraid you’ll have to look elsewhere. I only speak a few phrases, such as, “I love you,” and, “Where is the toilet?”
Kyouya: Interpreter… sorry about that. When it comes to Borginian, I only know a smattering of it.
In English, what Klavier says is not only funny, but also builds his character as a flashy rock star. Why else would he know "I love you"? In Japanese, it's just a straightforward sentence.
And this is something completely unknown to English players:
Daryan: See, me and planes got a difference of opinion. We don’t like each other much.
Dayan: I’m not good with planes. The seats are far too cramped for me.
It makes sense that he'd have trouble fitting his hair in!

#song of the day#'I don't ask for much / truth be told I'd settle / for a life less frightening'#another song that when I sing it alone it doesn't sound much like the original but I do so like to sing it#check me stirring my roux humming 'these lives we live test negative for happiness' sweetly to myself#today was Friday and I'm still trying to decide if I'm satisfied with the amount of work I got done this week#I suppose I'll have to be#I had my weekly report meeting and again the updates my boss asked for in the meeting were not the ones she asked me to prepare#so I split-screened her and delivered the prepared updates as I frantically opened and updated the new request#and then when she finished making politely falsely interested sounds (I'm not bitter I'm not I'm not) she asked again for the new update#and by then I had it ready! saved it as I brought up the share-screen and showed it to her#too frustrated in the moment to be properly proud of myself but now it's hours later and I'm feeling a little smug about it#little back-pats for me#I have something like a project timeline worked out for the idiot project#and I did some good work in the garden (nasturtium growing up the post under the bird feeder. very pleased it took the transplant so well)#and I sooooort of sorted the freezer stuff. kind of. mostly we ate the things I wanted to rearrange but I've got a plan for moving forward#the last non-work thing I'd really wanted to accomplish this week was getting my queue set up again here#I've gone through my drafts and done some prep but as you can see the queue isn't actually running again yet#hopefully I'll do that tomorrow. we'll see how it goes#the queue may have to wait until Sunday because I must confess if I can accomplish only one single solitary thing tomorrow#I would like it to be six hours of uninterrupted sleep. may it please the gods I shall rest tomorrow. blessed weekend#edit: wait wait I'm a fool I'm a fool I just typed 'May 3' and still I am a fool#it's May the Fourth!!#happy star wars day my loves if I don't get the queue up today after all#it's because I'm reshuffling everything because I've got a new influx of SW posts to distribute!!

it’s the spooky season so I'd like to present you the first offical comic in the Slammer Sonic Series!
Tails meets up with Sonic in green hill zone and notices he’s a lil sick looking, but Sonic tells Tails he’s fine, of course. Tails is still worried, but agrees to let it go.
Sonic then offers to play a game of hide and seek with him like they used to and they have a friendly game of it but over the course of the game, Tails notices Sonic's body slowly getting in worse and worse shape.
Sonic of course, keeps telling him he’s fine and just to keep playing a little more, but at some point Sonic just drops to his knees; he looks tired and makes weird groaning noises.
Tails comes out of his hiding spot and runs up to him, holding him closely, crying a little telling him the games over and he’s gonna help get sonic get medical help.
Then Slammer finally reveals himself and all Sonic could say in a whispering voice is “I am sorry, lil bro” before Slammer claims his first victim.
So Many Souls To Claim Wouldn’t You Agree?
I'd like to give a thank you to @bugtoast the amazing artist behind this first comic I've got planned for the Slammer Sonic story!
This is the biggest project I've ever done and it wouldn’t be possible without them helping not only with this comic but also Slammers disguise form!
They didn’t just make the artwork though we both collaborated together on the idea! Please check them out! they deserve some love!
Hope your all excited as I am for this journey into the story of Slammer Sonic!
