#i'm having a moment. the only time i'll ever see these two standing next to each other is in a promotional pic for the sfw game version#FOR SERIOUS i was weirded out by this combination of characters in one pic when i first saw it#i was like oh?? they doing a random assortment now? i mean sure! yeah! i guess! spice it up they look great!!#then someone pointed out that this was Tops Only#then showed me the corresponding picture of Bottoms Only#and i felt my eyebrow raise sharply#OOOH.... i didn't even consider... right.... top bottom segregation#(reality does not occur to me. i see them all through switch-coloured lenses and thus ignore information inconvenient to my preference)#then i started thinking more about the . idea of it. that the tops are in a bar's hidden back room with mafia boss dante#and the bottoms are hanging out in the airy beautiful atrium of pure white snow and lilting piano music#tops are like WELCOME TO THE LIONS DEN and bottoms are like HEY COME INTO THE AVIARY AND SIT WITH US 🥰#i dwelt on the fact that i was weirded out by yakumo in this group#and it made me think about how..... yakumo would be scared of all the other tops#all of them are INTIMIDATION 100 to hiim#so i imagine after you get him to pose for this shot with everyone. and the business is done#yakumo will quickly retreat to the room with the bottoms (where all his friends are)#blade being the adaptable little creature he is will be like OH COOL ARE YOU GOING TO SEE THE OTHERS??#I WANT TO SEE THE OTHERS TOO!! i feel like i’ve been WAITING for the other shoe to drop wrt people’s opinions about watcher for this very reason. not that i think the reaction is completely not understandable but the greater the parasocial relationship, the greater the fallout as soon as public opinion shifts. you don’t have a relationship with these people they’re just content creators, chill
#ready to see all the people coming out of the woodwork to say how they’ve never liked watcher/unsolved/etc#and act like it’s ‘cringe’ now that their fanbase feels ‘betrayed’#it’s great to have a fanbase but parasocial relationships will bite you in the ass every single time#it’s interesting too though because i’ve seen watcher have a LOT of support as they’ve tried to build something separate from buzzfeed#so this is the first time they’re getting real pushback about a decision they’ve made wrt shifting their platform/expanding their brand#so ig we’ll have to see how they react moving forward#but it’s soooo interesting to see how enthusiastically people dump on buzzfeed#AND how many people dump on youtube and how over the years so much of its functionality has been stripped away#how many ads you have to sit through. how much sponsored content there is now. etc#but when they try to do the same thing with youtube that they did with buzzfeed it’s like how dare you not lick their boots#because if you lick their boots and we lick their boots we can watch stuff for free#anyway.#even if you don’t any to say it’s a bad business decision. it’s not like there’s not precedent for it#1) the move away from buzzfeed was successful and 2) what about the dnd shows or whatever#don’t you guys watch those dnd shows that are ‘behind a paywall’#don’t you guys have netflix hulu disney hbo amazon etc ad nauseum that are actually owned by billion dollar corporations#don’t you guys get on your high horses about supporting independent artists all the time#it’s interesting that people will profess to be such big fans!!! and feel like they’re friends!!!!#but how dare they think their work might be worth paying for#idk. idk. it’s entitlement though#sorry for the rant i’m ALSO not trying to blindly defend a bunch of people i don’t know#but you guys are being soooo fucking annoying about it lol#anyway i’m still waiting to see what their response is going to be from here before jumping to conclusions#also to be fair i am biased to be lenient about decisions made by independent filmmakers vs big studios etc#like everybody freaking out about the ai art used in late night with the devil. who cares honestly#‘they should’ve paid a real artist!!’ idk maybe their budget didn’t cover that#i don’t want it to become the industry norm but at the end of the day i would rather see indie shit getting made then only seeing#the big studios (who don’t have equitable practices anyway!!) making shit#but that’s another conversation. just to be transparent about my viewpoint on this kind of thing#maybe controversial but also can’t we have nuance. for once.

Interview with the Vampire is really confirming that so long as an adaptation has a vision and is fun to watch I will buckle up and let it do its thing. I have an extensive list of complaints and quibbles that did not stop me from having a fantastic time and may have actually enhanced the experience. 10/10 deranged pining, Lestat's gay Catholic rage was a fun choice, and the devoted, obsessive infatuation hit my personal sweet spot, which is what I was most worried about. You see what Louis gets out of it and also what it costs him, and it sells the first part of that equation enough to keep me invested without brushing aside the downsides of being literally stalked and eaten. An earnestly horny and goth adventure! Very fun.
#i really disliked them killing off a sex worker and thought it was unnecessary for the story they seem to be aiming for#but I did sign up for a show about monsters who eat people#is this lowkey someone's smug badfic where they fix canon#yes#but you know what it's also a perfectly serviceable answer to the question of what would have happened if Louis and Lestat were trash bag#traumatized thirty somethings when they met#instead of trash bag traumatized twenty somethings#it is also (crucially) fun to watch#take notes Amazon elves#had you simply cast people with chemistry and then focused on building relationships between them#we could have talked#i am so willing to roll with your dwarf subplot on watchability grounds#so betrayed#by a show I a busy adult decide to watch every week instead of doing literally anything else with my limited time on this earth

Okay so S19E57 just makes it canon that Henrik would hate how a lot of the Holby fandom treats him.
“You see, I need people like you, Mr. Levy: not to rally to my side, but to challenge me. To steer me back to what matters most. I don’t really want blind devotion. I need someone to tell me when I might be wrong.”
Right there, he admits to being fallible and that he hates it when people pretend he’s not. He’d hate all that stuff people push about him being a “hero” or “Holby’s moral compass” or whatever.
(Also, again, Henrik is very very self-aware for a character both the show and the fandom regularly wanted us to believe wasn’t capable of knowing what was best for him.)
#yes i only finished watching the scenes from this episode last night#despite having started rewatching them a couple days ago#what can i say i've been busy#sidenote if you want to make yourself mad about how the show kept forcing henrik back into the ceo job just rewatch this episode#because in hindsight they were SO clearly building up to his resignation in s20#said resignation being a PIVOTAL point for his character development#and then they just undid it by the end of the season#he was genuinely happy as just a surgeon and he was MISERABLE as ceo#and when he finally acknowledged that and tried to put his own mental health first#it wasn't allowed to last because the writers wanted to restore the status quo#if only we'd got to keep abigail and see her actually develop as a character#instead of ''lol fuck your mental health henrik you need to go back to being ceo''

drives me up a wall living in a very very red district, like “no democrat is ever going to win any local election, let alone a real leftist” district, like “our school board members ran on who was the most anti-mask” red, like “I pass white supremacist signs on the way to buy weed” red
and being in the local leftist community and the guy who runs the anarchist book club and the lady who helps keep the warming shelters open and the people who marched on city hall when a local business was getting death threats for having a drag show are all members of a discord and we get on this discord and have frank discussions about how best to vote
the people who do the protests and the mutual aid and all the real work
going “okay, they’re both fascists, but this one lacks ambition and seems happy to just glide in the position” or “they both suck, but this one can be reasoned with if you frame it patriotically enough” like we don’t even have a democrat to vote for. we know what a vote is. we know what we hope accomplish with it. we know what it can do, and we know what it can’t.
and going from those discussions to here where people think that your vote is some kind of fucking??? enabling maneuver??? as if someone isn’t going to end up in that seat regardless of what you do???
we didn’t build this system, we just live in it. we’re just trying to survive. a vote isn’t a statement of your values, it’s not an endorsement, it’s not a marriage contract, it’s a strategic play you make to keep alive.
