The Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 is a mid-engine sports car, designed and developed in Germany by the Volkswagen Group and Bugatti and manufactured in Molsheim, France, by French automobile manufacturer Bugatti. It was named after the racing driver Pierre Veyron.
The original version has a top speed of 407 km/h (253 mph). It was named the 2000s Car of the Decade by the BBC television programme Top Gear. The standard Veyron also won Top Gear's Best Car Driven All Year award in 2005.
The Super Sport version of the Veyron is one of the fastest street-legal production cars in the world, with a top speed of 431.072 km/h (267.856 mph). The Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse was the fastest roadster in the world, reaching an averaged top speed of 408.84 km/h (254.04 mph) in a test on 6 April 2013.
The Veyron's chief designer was Hartmut Warkuß, with the exterior being designed by Jozef Kabaň of Volkswagen. Much of the engineering work was conducted under the guidance of chief technical officer Wolfgang Schreiber. The Veyron includes a sound system designed and built by Burmester Audiosysteme.
Several special variants have been produced. In December 2010, Bugatti began offering prospective buyers the ability to customise exterior and interior colours by using the Veyron 16.4 Configurator application on the marque's official website. The Bugatti Veyron was discontinued in late 2014, but special edition models continued to be produced until 2015.

Now Bugatti is celebrating another high point with its fourth legend – named in honour of Rembrandt Bugatti, brother of company founder Ettore and one of the most important sculptors of the early 20th century. One of his most significant works is the sculpture of a dancing elephant. It decorates the radiator of the Bugatti Type 41 Royale and became the brand’s symbol. The Legends model is based on the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse1. As with the other Legends models, only three will be manufactured. The “Rembrandt Bugatti” Vitesse costs €2.18 million Euro net.
“Rembrandt Bugatti was an exceptional sculptor. He represents the strong artistic roots of the Bugatti family, as did his father, Carlo,” said Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S., at the presentation of the Legends edition. “As vehicle developer and founder of the Bugatti brand, Ettore was also inspired by this artistic heritage. Art is of course one of our three brand values, namely ‘Art, Forme, Technique’. This makes Bugatti unique in automotive history, and was the reason we dedicated this striking Legends model to Rembrandt Bugatti.”
The art world views Rembrandt Bugatti as one of the most notable and artistically independent sculptors of the early 20th century. He became famous through his animal sculptures, and cast a large part of his work in bronze. The pieces are now on display in several collections and museums across the world. In the same way that Ettore saw automobile creation as an artistic process, Rembrandt Bugatti’s fame was based on his extraordinary artistic talent and his formidable manual abilities in manipulating surfaces.
All first three model series of the Legends edition have been sold
The “Rembrandt Bugatti” is the fourth Legend from the brand. To launch the “Les Légendes de Bugatti” edition last year, Bugatti presented “Jean-Pierre Wimille” at California’s Pebble Beach, “Jean Bugatti” at the IAA in Frankfurt and “Meo Costantini” at the Dubai Motor Show.
All nine vehicles of these three Legends have been sold.

“Rembrandt Bugatti”, the new Bugatti Legend
The “Rembrandt Bugatti” is based on the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse. Its 8 litre W16 engine achieves an unparalleled torque of 1,500 Nm from 1,200 PS at 3,000–5,000 rpm, and can accelerate from 0–100 km in 2.6 seconds. With a maximum speed of 408.84 km/h with the roof down, the Vitesse is the fastest production roadster ever built.
Design
“Rembrandt Bugatti had a special talent for capturing the movement of animals at their most expressive moment,” explains Achim Anscheidt, Head Designer at Bugatti. “The patina, the soul and the crafted character of his bronze sculptures guided us to the colour and material choices in the Legend car that carries his name.”
Anscheidt continues: “The result is a super sports car that fuses beauty and elegance with great dynamics and sporting appeal.”
Exterior
The body of the “Rembrandt Bugatti” Legend Vitesse was designed in the “horizontal split”, and is largely composed of bronze-coloured clear-coated carbon as a gesture to the artist’s favoured material. The vehicle’s lower half is painted in an elegant light brown, “Noix”. The famous Bugatti horseshoe gleams in platinum from the front grille, with platinum also ringing the EB logo at the vehicle’s rear. The wheels are painted in dark “Firefinch” and light “Noix” browns, and these colours combine to complete the elegant appearance and set the super sports car off against the asphalt. In reference to the artist and Legends car’s namesake, Rembrandt Bugatti’s signature has been lasered onto the petrol and oil cap.
Interior
The elegant and harmonious appearance continues in the vehicle’s interior. The Vitesse is completely upholstered with leather in light brown “Cognac”. The rear centre box between the seats has a striking design. It proudly sports Rembrandt Bugatti’s famous elephant sculpture, the hood ornament of the Type 41 Royale and today is the symbol for both the brand and the Legends edition. The elephant was cast in bronze with great technical skill and worked as an insert into the cover. The cover is made of bronze-coloured clear-coated carbon. The door trim is impressive evidence of Bugatti’s reputation for working high-quality materials in a unique style, with braided leather in the softly contrasting colours of “Cognac” and “Coffee”. This elegant design was developed exclusively for this Legends car.
Platinum is also in evidence in the vehicle’s interior, on the EB logo on the steering wheel. Other interior details specific to this Legends Vitesse are the insert of bronze-coloured clear-coated carbon on the extended centre console with the lettering “Les Légendes de Bugatti” and Rembrandt Bugatti’s elephant, and the door sill plates displaying the sculptor’s portrait and signature.

Rembrandt Bugatti (1884-1916) ranks among the most remarkable and individually artistic sculptors of the early 20th century. Born in Milan, Rembrandt was Ettore Bugatti’s younger brother. His exceptional talent was discovered early on, though his father Carlo Bugatti, himself successful as an artist and designer, had initially planned a future as an engineer for the young Rembrandt. After Rembrandt began sculpting at an early age, his father sent him to the Brera Art Academy in Milan. His very first exhibitions in Venice and Paris caused great sensations. Over the course of his short life, Rembrandt’s oeuvre came to include over 300 bronzes, paintings and drawings. Rembrandt’s great artistic passion for animals emerged at an early stage. He began modelling cows, horses and dogs, and was later inspired by the more exotic forms on display at the zoological gardens in Paris and Antwerp such as anteaters, tapirs, hippopotamuses and elephants.
Rembrandt created a great many elephant sculptures, but it was his dancing elephant that became perhaps the most recognisable symbol for the Bugatti brand. It is, after all, the silver hood ornament that adorns the Type 41 Royale. Because of his incredible flair for capturing the very essence of the animal in a sculpture, he was known across Europe and America.
The First World War drove Rembrandt Bugatti to take his life in Paris in 1916. He was only 31 years old.

Driving the $2 Million Bugatti Grand Sport
It starts with the engine. Although the basic architecture is unchanged, the mighty W-16 has been redesigned to reliably produce 8 percent more power and 9 percent more torque than in the Veyron Super Sport. The engine sits in an all-new carbon-fiber monocoque with a torsional stiffness of 50,000 Nm/degree—comparable to that of a Le Mans LMP1 prototype. How strong is that in layman’s terms? Bugatti was able to crash test the same car several times to verify the aluminum crush structures at the front and rear of the car. If you’ve ever witnessed the violence of a crash test, you’ll realize how stunning that previous sentence is.
The suspension is height adjustable and features adaptive shocks. In conjunction with electronic control of the power steering, the all-wheel-drive system’s torque distribution, the rear differential, the active aerodynamics and the stability and braking control systems, engineers have crafted five selectable drive protocols—Lift, EB, Autobahn, Handling, and Top Speed.
Four drive modes are selectable via a rotary controller on the left-hand side of the steering wheel. EB is the standard driving mode. Lift mode raises the ride height four-tenths of an inch front and rear to enable the Chiron to be loaded on a truck or plane or to clear steep drives and speed humps. Autobahn mode (which is also automatically activated at 112 mph) drops the front end of the Chiron eight-tenths of an inch to improve the car’s aerodynamic angle of attack at high speeds, adds more on-center weight to the steering, and raises the active rear spoiler farther into the air flow. Handling mode further stiffens the suspension, programming the shocks to catch rebound motions 50 percent sooner, adds more torque to the steering effort, and tilts the rear wing to deliver more downforce.
At 200 mph the Chiron feels utterly rock steady, preternaturally relaxed, barely breaking a sweat—exactly what you would expect of a car running at less than 75 percent of its potential.
Autobahn and Handling modes will take you to 236 mph. Going faster requires selecting Top Speed mode, activated via a second separate Speed Key, which slots into the floor by the driver’s seat. While stationary, of course. Think of it as the automotive equivalent of ordering a ballistic missile launch.
After the Chiron’s digital neural network runs a systems check, the front end is lowered an additional six-tenths of an inch, and the rear comes down 1.2 inches, dropping the whole car closer to the bitumen. The full-width rear wing is also snugged closer to the carbon-fiber bodywork and set at a shallower angle. Both measures are designed to reduce aerodynamic drag, and they enable the Chiron to hit its speed-limited 261 mph.
For those owners who want to go beyond that outrageous pace, right to the very edge of the Chiron’s performance envelope, Bugatti will help them do it in a factory-owned car—or the owners’ own—fitted with a set of special ultra-finely balanced wheels and tires, plus a battery of additional sensors to be monitored by factory technicians during the V-max run.
What you notice from behind the wheel, apart from being shoved firmly back in the seat by a relentless surge of thrust every time you hit the gas, is the crisper throttle response. The revised W-16 allows you to finesse the Chiron’s attitude through corners with a precision that simply wasn’t possible in the Veyron. There’s much more sensitivity in the chassis, too, the steering telegraphing more clearly what’s going on where the rubber meets the road. Although by no means small—it’s about as wide as an Escalade and weighs as much as an Audi A8—the Chiron shrinks around you on a winding two-lane in a way the Veyron never could.
For that you can thank Bugatti chassis guru Loris Bicocchi, who oversaw the final tweaks to the Chiron’s chassis tuning, focusing on steering feel and chassis balance. “We changed many, many parameters on the car compared with the Veyron,” says Bicocchi, who credits Wolfgang Dürheimer for the big Bugatti’s character change: “He said, ‘If you have to choose between comfort or sporty, please take sporty.’” A key change was tire spec: Compared with the Veyron, the Chiron’s rear tires are narrower but larger in diameter (21-inch versus 20-inch), while the fronts are wider. “Now, in a steady-state corner, the mechanical balance is better,” Bicocchi says. In other words, there’s less understeer.
What is no less remarkable than its staggering performance is how unremarkable the Chiron feels mooching along city streets at 20 to 40 mph. It’s docile and calm and comfortable, the suspension riding over road acne with surprising fluency, the giant Riccardo seven-speed dual-clutch transmission seamlessly switching between ratios, the steering light and accurate, the pedal feel of the giant carbon-ceramic brakes beautifully modulated. It feels about as edgy as a Honda Accord on a soccer mom run.
The superbly finished interior is impressively roomy for a two-seater, and the user-interface technologies presented in the same cleverly reductive manner as an Apple product. For example, the line of rotary controllers marching down the flying buttress center console look after the HVAC functions, but the information shown on the small digital screens in each of them can be changed at the press of a button. In Performance mode, it showed I hit precisely 6,556 rpm and used exactly 1,437 hp on my way to a genuine 204 mph. Hmmm, looks like I left 42 hp on the table. Should have tried harder …
Everything from ancillary information such as oil pressure and water temperature to audio settings to tire pressures to sat nav information is presented on two high-resolution digital screens located on either side of a giant analog speedometer that reads to 500 kph. (In U.S.-spec Chirons, the speedo will show 300 mph.) Why an analog speedo? “It doesn’t fade away when the ignition is off,” Dürheimer says, ” so when people look inside, they can see how fast the car can go. And they will talk about it.” Yes, indeed they will.
The Chiron is a beguiling combination of hypercar and grand tourer. You can drive it fast—very, very fast—without feeling your hair is on fire, your palms are sweating, and your heart is hammering away inside your chest. Like a battleship, the Chiron’s immense power is wrapped in an imperious calm.
There are those who question the relevance of a car this powerful, this fast, this expensive. But that is to ignore the astounding engineering achievement the Bugatti Chiron represents. Dürheimer neatly sums up its place in history. “In terms of combustion engine cars, I think this will be the peak,” he says, subtly acknowledging the fact the Chiron’s replacement will inevitably be a high-performance hybrid. “Thirty years from now, people will look back and say, ‘That’s how they did it back then.’” He’s absolutely right.

A corrida por potência e velocidade praticamente nasceu com os automóveis. Sem contar os de competição pura ou versões de rua destes, a escalada dos chamados supercarros começou para valer neste século.
Bugatti EB110
Trinta anos atrás um Ferrari F-40 ou um Lamborghini Diablo não alcançavam os 500 cv. Isso mudaria após a estreia do Bugatti EB110, que “chegou, chegando” com motor V12, quadriturbo, de 561 cv. A marca francesa tem uma história fantástica (fundada em 1909 pelo italiano Ettore Bugatti), mas faliu, passou por proprietários aventureiros até ser adquirida pelo Grupo Volkswagen, em 1998.
Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron
A partir daí, a Bugatti espantou o mundo com o EB 16.4 Veyron, com motor W16 de exatos 1.001 cv. Lançado no Salão de Frankfurt de 2001, a produção só começou em 2005 e previsão de apenas 300 exemplares.

Recentemente, o jornalista francês Vincent Desmonts listou os 10 automóveis mais potentes do mundo. Na realidade são 12 porque houve empates na terceira colocação.

Koenigsegg Jesko
Ficou de fora da lista o modelo realmente mais potente do mundo com motor térmico por uma razão simples. O Koenigsegg Jesko, apresentado no Salão de Genebra de 2019, tem um V8 turbo 5.0, que desenvolve 1.625 cv com E85, mistura de 85% de etanol e 15% de gasolina. Porém, de fato, ainda não teve fabricação iniciada. Outro modelo, anunciado e sem previsão de venda, é o Pininfarina Battista elétrico de 1.903 cv.

No Brasil, cerca de 35.000 dos 45.000 postos existentes vendem etanol E100 (puro, sem gasolina). Nos EUA são cerca de 4.000, uns poucos na Suécia e agora também na Tailândia (sempre E85). Se o Jesko fosse calibrado para 100% de etanol, sua potência teoricamente poderia subir uns 5% para nada menos de 1.700 cv.
Chevrolet Tracker terá luta dura pela frente
Apesar de o T-Cross ter mantido por dois meses a liderança do mercado brasileiro, basicamente pelo represamento de vendas da versão para PCD em razão da pandemia, a briga entre os SUVs compactos deverá se concentrar entre Renegade, Nivus e Tracker.
Chevrolet Tracker
Na avaliação do dia a dia, o Chevrolet na versão Premier mostrou ser um produto bem equilibrado entre conforto, desempenho e preço. Com 2,57 m de distância entre-eixos oferece bom espaço no banco traseiro para três ocupantes adultos.
Motor 1.2
Os materiais de acabamento são agradáveis à vista e ao tato. O motorista dispõe de banco elétrico e volante com regulagem de distância e altura.
Motor tricilindro 1.2 é mais áspero que o de 1.0, porém oferece respostas boas em razão do torque de 21,4 kgfm (com etanol) a apenas 2.000 rpm, da potência de 133 cv, de um câmbio automático de seis marchas convencional (epicíclico) e peso em ordem de marcha relativamente baixo de 1.271 kg.
Este último fator permitiu o uso seguro de freios a tambor nas rodas traseiras, mas o deixa vulnerável a críticas em relação aos concorrentes.
Sistema de Wi-Fi a bordo beneficia-se de uma antena específica que capta até 12 vezes melhor os sinais para os sistemas de navegação (Android Auto e Apple CarPlay). Porta-malas de 393 litros é maior que o do Renegade e menor que do Nivus. Ponto fraco do Tracker é o tanque de combustível de apenas 44 litros.
Pirelli inaugura seu novo campo de provas
O primeiro campo de provas para testes de pneus no Brasil foi construído em 1988 pela Pirelli, em Sumaré (SP), mas teve que ser desativado por limitações técnicas e de espaço.
Fruto de investimento de R$ 90 milhões a companhia acaba de inaugurar o maior complexo multipista (sete no total) da América Latina em Elias Fausto (SP), a 120 km da capital paulista. Em terreno de 1,65 milhão de m2, oito vezes maior que o anterior, a área construída de 205.000 m2 inclui todas as instalações de apoio como boxes de manuseio e salas de reunião.
Circuito Panamericano
Além dos vários testes possíveis, que vão de desenvolvimento a desempenho e durabilidade, o complexo estará disponível também para fabricantes de veículos, nacionais ou importados, com todos os cuidados de sigilo.
O Circuito Panamericano, como foi batizado, permite executar até 15 testes simultâneos, em pistas asfaltadas e de terra, para carros, motocicletas e até caminhões. Está integrado aos outros 11 centros de pesquisas que a marca italiana instalou no mundo.

Além dos vários testes possíveis, que vão de desenvolvimento a desempenho e durabilidade, o complexo estará disponível também para fabricantes de veículos, nacionais ou importados, com todos os cuidados de sigilo.
