Ninjago Fic Rec Week: Day 5

Saturniidae: *takes long hard swig* This one's a doozy, fellas. Beautifully melancholic Cole-centric fic detailing the descent of their team reflected in their beloved Ultra Dragon amongst other things, and the stinging realization that what we need isn't always going to be what we want...or in the ways we think. Skating on Thin Ice (Can Get You Into Hotwater): A multichapter braincellshipping fic in a hockey/ice skating au that I haven't actually finished, but a) I loved what I read of it so far, b) the character dynamics are sooooo much fun, even beyond the ship, c) the concept is AMAZING, and d) it's by an author who's made this list already, THEREFORE I trust this story with my life. It needs a little extra love <3

Nya and the Song of Sirens: Poetic Nya stream of consciousness thingy during some Crystalized events, I don't talk about this one a lot because writing it stressed me out and I didn't think it was anywhere close to my best snksnksnk, but upon rereading again for myself, I'm like "whoa, maybe I really had something here". Politoed: like the lyrebird of frog pokemon, sets off every frog pokemon in their area because they mimic the calls of other frogs, confusing them.

Bidoof: its a baby beaver

Squirtle: squirtles live out in the sea or in deep lakes for a long time, before they develop a more stout, Snapping-turtle like body plan to facilitate them becoming more terrestrial to avoid competing too much with their young

Blaziken: this chicken remembered it was a dinosaur and stood up

Pelipper: a fell beast known as a Pelican. but with an even BIGGER throat pouch

Surskit: the nymph stage of maquerain. their undeveloped wings come together to form a protective spike for now

Gastly Line: misinterpreted as spirits of the dead, these spider-pokemon have a peculiar defense, by folding their limbs together with coloration that makes them resemble a big scary face with a dangling tongue. as they grow older they weave more webbing together to make a false Puppet-body to hide in and protect itself (known at this point as a ‘Haunter’). when they reach a certain age, many Haunter will move into the same web-body together and mate continuously with each other (Colloquially known as a “Gengar”). their webs are coated with a substance that dries easily and is toxic when inhaled, as a defense mechanism they shake their web furiously to scatter this substance as a toxic cloud of powdered dust.

Wobbuffet: wasnt sure what to do with wobbuffet, my beloved weirdo. had 4 ideas. 1: wobbuffet is a gecko with a huge tail. 2: Wobbuffet is a sea cucumber with an inflatable filament. 3: wobbuffet is some sort of hydrozoan. 4: wobbuffet is it’s own funky monstery thing. could be any of em

Chandelure line: getting it’s own post soon

Mimikyu: a land cuttlefish that once used hide and furs from dead pokemon to cover itself as a decoy and keep its body from drying out (putting it in direct competition with Banette) now moved onto the much more plentiful human-made cloth scraps and plushies. when surprised they flash and strobe in bright lights and colors, causing epileptic seizures in those who are sensitive.

Rotom: a form of flatworm, once considered a pest. they are attracted to old electronics due to the rubber gaskets, fittings and wire insulation. they feed on these before gradually breaking down the copper wiring. due to an instinct to aggressively defend their food source with electronic shocks, and being attracted to areas of high current (like the control panel or capacitors) this gives the impression that rotom ‘Possesses’ electronics

Solosis line: an amphibian pokemon that evolved to retain it’s gelatinous egg casing as a protective coating. the jelly is full of muscle fibers and neurons in a sort of mesh that is difficult to see.

Sandygast: an octopus pokemon that prowls the beach for krabby to eat. they cover themselves in sand to protect from the beating sun, even stealing unattended shovels from children on the beach to help. they prop themselves up as false shelter to the krabby to hide in away from wingull, before plopping down on them and devouring them.

Sawk & Throh: 2 morphs of the same species of short tailed/Tailless komodo dragon pokemon. living in small groups that fight constantly to establish pecking order. the sawk morph is very speedy and nimble in exchange for being very frail in comparison, while the Throh morph is much stronger and heavier but extremely slow. there is a misunderstanding that sawk and throh are ‘entirely male’ but this is untrue, rather they have a genital configuration similar to hyena’s, not to mention mating is rarely ever observed and thus poorly understood.

Kecleon: a lizard pokemon with a highly sophisticated form of camouflage, their scales even capable of taking on levels of bioluminescence and phosphorescence to increase the effectiveness of the disguise. the red band along their midsection is a clear selection of scales over a patch of light-sensitive cells that automatically adjust levels of light for their camouflage while the eyes focus on depth, shapes, details and colors.

Yamask line: black scavenger birds that build nests from glittering, sparkling objects. in the past they were known to appear in the homes of recently deceased in the unovan desert, attracted by the bronze ‘death mask’ laid over the face of the deceased, the fact that they were constantly found taking them created the myth that these birds are in fact the souls of the departed. when they mature they lose the ability to fly, but gain much greater strength and developed phalanges on their former-wings that helps them carry their nest easier. in the past they wove their nests as baskets with both lid and container to retain all the sparkling materials theyve gathered with a special, weblike secretion from their Mucus glands. but with the increasing popularity of coffins, caskets and sarcophagi in bright, glittering colors they became much more entranced by them and grew in strength to use them as semi-mobile shelter. they are Highly aggressive and possessive of anything theyve gathered.

Castform: a form of jellyfish pokemon. while technically speaking very resistant to changes in weather, they Do react strongly to it, which was a trait long bred into them by humans for weather prediction. as such, they are 'made' by humans, but not as directly as some 'synthetic' pokemon

3. their favorite mythical/fantasy animal/figure: DRAGONS OF COURSE (it would be blasphemous to suggest anything else as she is the proud mama of a dragon)

4. salty or sweet snacks? which kind do they like best?: skye is a mix of both because she’s a person who needs to balance the amount of each flavor; her preferred way of doing that is to have a bag of dill pickle chips (her favorite) with cherry twizzlers

5. what they like to do during the winter time: skye loves to go snowboarding; if she has time, she’ll beg allison or isaac to take her to the nearest ski resort and spend the entire day shredding the slopes

6. their favorite ‘50’s song: great balls of fire by jerry lee lewis

7. do they drink? if so, what’s their favorite drink?: skye’s definitely the one who drinks the hard liquor out of the siblings; she loves fireball the most because of the cinnamon taste and the burn she gets when she drinks it

8. one moment they recoil thinking about: definitely that first kiss of hers and lucy’s in the gardens of cair paravel; it wasn’t a bad kiss (not at all actually), but skye regrets not keeping her cool in that moment (it’s one thing she’s jealous of isaac for since he’s so good at remaining calm under pressure)

9. if they believe in lucky objects: oh yeah, skye is a BIG believer of lucky objects; her black dahlia necklace that isaac gave her is always around her neck whenever she has a cheer competition or a big test

10. their first-ever paying job: once she was in high school, skye got a job working at dairy queen. it wasn’t the best job in the world, but she loved that she got free blizzards out of the whole ordeal

about that wonderful idea about the demigod! reader, who was kidnapped by the storm god from before. I can imagine that, The Drowned God. thinking that he finally managed to save his daughter.

but, it seems that the scene repeats itself again. The storm god thinks this is the perfect time to bring his beloved back.

and the Targaryens, The Drowned God manages to calmly rescue his daughter from them, but, the Storm God, is making Targ's life literally hell. it would be funny if the storm god managed to catch the demigoddess! reader again.

I love the ideas for the faces of the two characters, I can see what Aquaman looks like, like the Drowned God.

and Thor's appearance as the storm god.

Yeah, this was a big idea that is blowing my mind and i still waiting for Vyn to appear with her idea.

This Au will be my ultimate doom

Also, in the appearances, i feel like the Drowned god is more dark (in aura) than Aquaman, considering his real appearance is technically Cthulu. Now the Storm God would Thor with longer hair and different clothes.

It's a battle between the 3 sides, Sea, Sky and Dragon.

Both the gods were wild and unbeatable, the trail of chaos behind them was immense.

The Conquerors soon realize that they have no chance of winning this battle without suffering major consequences, the belief that they were closer to Gods than to men seemed like illusion at that moment.

The Drowned God was terrifying to look at, even in a human form, they could still feel the monstrous aura leaving from him. As for the Storm God, his wrath and desire for their demise was too clear to be denied.

The little princess could hear the chaos through the walls of her prison, just to realize the sound of breaking in the door that kept her away from the world.

Once open, she sees him, the first one who took her away from her home, but the only one who was able to catch her heart in some way. The Storm God was finally taking his beloved home...

The skies started clear up and opened the eyes of the other two parties. The Drowned God finally realized that he was tricked by his enemy.

So with no more need to waste there, he vanished from the Palace.

Happy Hatching Anniversary! Your present is: why do Longs hold pearls?

@secondhanddragon So, you wanna know why?

To be honest, while I was trawling for information, I realized that not even that many Chinese sites talk about the pearls. Such might be the nature of folklore—everyone gives their own interpretations, which are then spread orally. Tough to find "academic sources." And of course, wonky citations with broken links and poor reference points are always a hindrance.

"神龙戏珠" (The Divine Dragon Playing with Its Pearl) is a motif that has a few variations. It could be a single dragon (单龙戏珠), two dragons (二龙戏珠), three dragons (三龙戏珠), and even multiple dragons chasing one single pearl (多龙戏珠) [1].

In this figure, you can see five dragons chasing a single pearl. [1]

#1: The Pearl... Really Is a Pearl!

Pearls are formed by living shell mollusks—which are members of the "aquatic tribes" [2]. They are hard to come by, lustrous, pretty as fuck, and very beloved in Chinese culture.

Chinese dragons, unlike the Western ones, are associated with water, right? That's because Long is "the king of the ocean" and it "rules over all aquatic tribes" [2]. If your dime-a-dozen clam could produce something as precious as a pearl, why can't the King itself produce the most beautiful and precious pearl that triumphs them all, huh?

This appears to be the genesis of the concept of the "Pearl." But naturally, as time goes on, more and more meanings are embedded in it!

#2: The Pearl as an Egg

Long is a chimera of sorts. It's an amalgamation of, inter alia, a fish, a crocodile, a snake, a boar, a horse, an ox, a lizard, and a deer [1] [2]. Fishes and the reptilian reps in this group lay eggs. The crocodile's egg is even kinda big—way larger than a pearl.

Do you see? The egg is seen as a pearl and vice versa [1] [2]. Eggs are the source of life for crocodiles and snakes, and therefore, egg-pearl represents life in dragon arts [2]. When the dragon is "playing with its pearl," it's actually playing with "life." This motif embodies the dragon's status as a protector and caretaker of life [2].

Almost like a parent would...

#3: The Pearl as a Symbol of Love for the Dragons' Children

Now, some might think that all Longs are male, as the mythical creature symbolizing women is often the Fenghuang (and so one might think that all Fenghuangs are females). That's not true. Dragons and Fenghuang both have two, uh, sexes.

The "Two Dragons Chasing a Pearl" motif is popular in classical Chinese artwork. One of the dragons is male, and the other is female. The Pearl symbolizes egg/life, as stated in #2, which means the Pearl also comes to symbolize "a child" [1] [2].

In other words, Papa Dragon and Mama Dragon are playing with—and stealthily protecting—Anya Pearl.

An important note that isn't stated in any of my citations, but is nonetheless relevant: Chinese people may call themselves 龙的传人, "The Dragon's Heir." It means—as mythical origin goes—the Chinese people identify as "the children of the Long." Now connect this to what you learned in #3.

#4: The Pearl as the Sun

Sometimes the Pearl is ON FIRE!!!

This is especially predominant in the aforementioned "Two Dragons Chasing a Pearl" motif. The Pearl looks more like a fireball than an actual pearl. Below the Pearl, then, one may find a depiction of the sea.

"The Pearl leaps out from the ocean." What does that connotate? The rising sun [2]!

Now, what does it have to do with the dragon? Well, have a little detour.

The Four Symbols (四象)

You might have already heard of this, but in case you didn't: each cardinal direction has a "guardian."

东方青龙 // Azure Dragon of the East

西方白虎 // White Tiger of the West

南方朱雀 // Vermillion Bird of the South

北方玄武 // Black Warrior (or Black Tortoise) of the North

They represent more than just directions—they have their own traits, backstories, virtues, etc.

Who's the Guardian of the East? The Azure Dragon!

Now, drawing our discussion back to the Pearl, you can see why the dragon chases after it now, right? The Pearl is the Sun; it rises from the East. The Guardian of the East plays/chases after it as an emblem of ancient Chinese worship of the Sun [1] [2].

#5: The Pearl and the Dragons Representing Chinese Aesthetics [1]

Chinese art loves "wholeness" and "pair."

You often find a pair of things in Chinese culture: a pair of Door God, a pair of Chinese duilian (poetry of sorts; used for blessings and wishes), the likes. Chinese culture also really loves things like the full moon, because "roundness" symbolizes the whole, unity, and consummation.

Two dragons form a pair. In front of them, an orb—a round, whole object. Hence, the motif is well-beloved as it features two of the Chinese culture's favorite aesthetics [1].

Kinda hard to tell, but two dragons are playing with the pearl here.

Grew up in the street as petty thief, then became prostitute. From alleyway hooker to the noble's secret escort. Those were hard times and he has scar on his face during that as souvenir. He left that life behind after recruited into Order of Whisper at the age of 29 and paired with Tybalt for 3 years before the start of personal story. Its during campaign against Zhaitan, that he and Trahearne started to see each other secretly.

After Maguuma Operation he fell into severe mental health issue. Resigned from the Pact, and disappear for a year. Before reappearing, dragged by Sulestari, to form Dragon's Watch with Rytlock and Taimi. Nowadays, hes more or less stable, though age really mellows him out.

funfact: at first his name is kinda also a dick joke (sukmadikha <<< which is actual name in my tribe mind you!!! XD) but i got warning from GM and changed it into Sukma Adhikara, which roughly means "Soul Commander"; and i got angry because its actually rather cool name now??? XD

Sulestari Sylvari / Mesmer. 3mo M (core tyria)

Actual 'The Commander of the Pact'. Cycle of Dawn. The Chosen Valiant. He was sylvari of great enthusiasms and honesty. Always eager to help, although having a bit of temper and cautious toward other races.

Gardeners joked that Sulestari is actually so Daybloom he woke up early at Dawn instead. He wears his metaphorical hearts on his sleeves. He thinks of Pale Tree as his mother, Caithe as big sister, and he admires Trahearne greatly.

Over the years he became more and more jaded and bitter, even if he still helps those around him, seemingly out of self-imposed obligation.

funfact: i actually want to make female sylvari and named her lestari. but somehow it became male sylvari instead?? while lestari already gender neutral name, i want to make it kinda masculine, so adding 'su' like common boy name of my tribe. lestari means everlasting / preserving.

Brite Hearthkeeper Charr / Elementalist. 28 M (core tyria)

Olmakhan Charr. He cooks and cares for the cubs in the village. He joins the Olmakhan forces in aiding the events of S4. And after that, he sorta hangs around commanders / wanders around Tyria to see the world.

Julian Bahari Sea Wolf Roegadyn / DRK Main. 19F (ARR)

Warrior of Light. Unyielding and seemingly stoic young woman, shes actually pretty awkward socially. She rarely talks due to selective mutism. Inside, she has adventurous spirit and a hot-blooded person. She loves to brawl and eat. Shes also protective person and ready to square up to any threats anytime.

She was raised along with other orphans in Lost Hope to mine ore as form of returning favor to the merchant that take care of them, as well as paying for ongoing 'rent and meal'. One day, she was so mesmerized by group of adventurers's lifestyle and decided to just book it out of the mine and become adventurer herself.

Enjoying her newfound freedom, shes been doing odd jobs, getting beat up as gladiator, and knee deep in plethora of small gigs -- earning barely enough gils-- for quite awhile, before meeting Thancred and subsequently recruited into Scions of Seventh Dawn.

funfact: out of all mmo character that i played, juli is the one i love the most. practically love at first sight. aaaa beloved.... anyway, bahari means sea / nautical. im not very creative at making names, actually... sorry. julian is from my old story i wrote, it was given to a unyielding male soldier, so i feel this like spiritual successor to that character. kinda?

Haelborn Wyrnedzasyn Seawolf Roegadyn / WHM Main. 54M (ARR)

Hes war-weary old man with mild manner. He took interest in gardening and sewing. After all the horror of war and slavery, he choose peace many times over anything. Even so, when its time to fight, he wont hesitate to bring all of him to help. Eventually, he became Juli's retainer. Married to a male vierra named Yukine Benitoki (my friend's oc)

Garlean conscript since very young age. He survived Carteneau Flats war during Great Calamity and the fall of Castrum Meridianum. Having no place to return to, he wanders around Black Shroud, learning of local's way of life and shedding violence for mending life.

When his past life is exposed, he once again casted out of the shroud. During which, the allied force of grand companies taking over baelsar's wall; allowing haelborn to slip past into last forest. One thing lead to another, he and juli met, fought together, and became friend. Upon knowing of his situation, juli offered haelborn to live with her for free; which he counteroffered by offering him to be her retainer instead.

funfact: finally, a name that is actually lore compliant. took a bit of brainstorming with friend too... haelborn wyrnedzasyn means healthy boar, son of snake-eater. yeah its also kinda dirty joke at the end. sorry again. one thing for sure, i didnt expect him to be such a Soft Boy... huh.

Well, apparently, my dad had intended for his friend to pay like everyone else. Well; his friend thought the entertainment was a gift - because it was his birthday."

"So I'm playing the shamisen and singing, and the ruckus just builds; I've learned by now to keep performing when there are drunks and hoodlums, so I know how to keep going while surveying the crowd. I see my father completely engrossed in a fistfight with his friend. I try to deviate my attention, because as I'm watching, so does the crowd. But even as I try to keep going, I can't sing over the screaming. So I just stop as we all watch the fight."

Haruka snorts. "Dad had insisted I keep playing; but I didn't. The crowd began shouting at them to take it outside, so I pushed them out of the home and earthbent a slab at the front door and continued the set," she smiles, taking a drag from her pipe. "Dad didn't get paid and the friend never invited me back because of my 'poor behavior'; but we never had an issue like that again. I did, however, get us more patrons after my handling of their argument, so I can't complain. Thankfully, after that, mom took over the finances to ensure we didn't have another hiccup like that again."

I'll bat my eyes and ask him what I should do on my next turn; and when he coaches me on what I should do, I'll do the complete opposite and put everyone in a stalemate! The way he has to stop and breathe never fails to be funny. I love his patience; and I hope he knows it; but sometimes seeing that old dragon contain that fire and fury I've seen burst out of him is... I don't know. It reminds me that I'm safe with him. I always have been; but when he just lets me be an imp in the ways I've never been able to, and he lets me laugh and smile... I love him. But that doesn't mean I'll go easy on him," she smiles wistfully; thinking about her beloved old general, who is somewhere out at sea with his nephew.

3. What were your top five books of the year?

This is hard!! in no particular order...

Our Wives Under the Sea - Julia Armfield: a "came back wrong" story. The protagonist thought her wife was lost in a deep sea expedition, only to have her return like a shadow of herself. It alternates between the protagonist trying to figure out how to help her, and the diaries of her wife explaining what happened. At first I wanted the two characters voices to be more distinct, but overall I keep thinking about this book so really it's my standout of the year. Made me cry about an octopus. Big body horror warning.

Gideon the Ninth - Tasmyn Muir: necromancers and their cavaliers come together to compete for the privilege to serve the Emperor. You've probably seen this before. I really enjoyed the first book more than the second, and I haven't read the third yet. I personally think the author does a better job with this book, versus trying to make a complicated narrative maze in the others. However! The characters are so good that I am still very enamoured with it. I do recommend this one, YMMV with the others. It also made me cry. Body horror warning for this as well, with necromancer stuff.

The Animals at Lockwood Manor - Jane Healey: during WW2, the British Museum's collection of animals must be moved for safety, thought the protagonist worries that Lockwood Manor has threats of its own. This felt like a book they would use to show you symbolism in school-- in a good way! Very deliberate and confident symbolism and thematic imagery. It was very eerie and I loved both the main characters, Big warnings for this one, though, that I would suggest taking a look at with discretion, since it is a part of the 'finale' reveal (it's not depicted in any detail but it's heavy).

Caroline's Heart - Austin Chant: a witch tries to resurrect her lost love, and a cowboy stumbles on her work. This is a novella, but I really loved it so much. It reads like a fairytale and the characters are completely endearing. Romantic and comforting!! Warnings for period relevant -phobias.

The Priory of the Orange Tree - Samantha Shannon: a retelling of Saint George and the Dragon as a high fantasy. This book is huge but I adored it. Every character feels so alive and real. I'm not a big fantasy person but the worldbuild is unique, exciting, and it's all about women. I wish it was an ongoing since I want to see more of these characters. Ead my absolute beloved. I think you specifically would like this!! Warnings also some 'fantasy' -phobias, very emphasized miscarriage plot.

BONUS: Silver in the Wood - Emily Tesh: a wild man lives in Greenhollow Wood, peacefully letting the years pass him by, until a curious man arrives on his doorstep, intent on unravelling his secrets. Also a novella. This is my all timer. I didn't read it for the first time this year but I'm obsessed with it. I want everyone to read it. It's a fable; it's romantic; it's lush and hypnotic. I should write this author a letter.

12. Any books that disappointed you?

Sadly, several, haha. I read The Magpie Lord by KJ Charles and that's probably going to take the cake. KJ Charles is very prolific and usually highly recommended, so when this book did so little for me, I realized that's a huge block of books that I'm just not going to bother with. There were parts of the book I liked, and the style itself was fine, but then the sexual tone was super weird and there was a little too much emphasis on the 'exotic' East.

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

Actually Peter Darling by Austin Chant, which I only took the leap on since I liked Caroline's Heart so much. I just imagined I would be lukewarm on the concept, since I wasn't sure how it would be executed. I was overly cautious, haha. Then there was really creative takes on the story and on Neverland magic, and it was very endearing!

Your current fandom(s): Anybody checking my reblog spam knows that I am neck fucking deep in the Sonic fandom right now. Which I must say, is not the lowest I've ever been- one of my prior fandoms was League of Legends, somehow.

How did you first get into fandom?: Deviantart.com baby!! A really pretty girl in 6th grade introduced me to the website, and one day I finally worked up the courage to enter my favorite show at the time (Transformers Prime) into the search bar. I discovered that I was not the only girl in the world who experience the Blorbo Emotions and that blew my mind.

How long have you been engaging in fandom spaces?: Since 6th grade, as mentioned before. However, honorary mention- my mom is actually a part of the fandom old guard. She's been reading fanfic since before I was born. Strange thought, isn't it?

How often do you read fanfics?: About every week, I say. I usually find new stuff here on tumblr, and I troll the depths of AO3 every week and a half or so. (I usually just tend to tear through every fic that's been tagged with my favorite niche character and then get sad about it.)

Top three characters from your current fandom(s):

Anybody who's even glanced at my reblog spam knows that it's all going to be Sonic characters. More specifically, my beloved Metal Sonic, is #1. Obsessed with this funky identity crisis dude. He's the one I'm writing a literal novel for right now, because you can fit so much goddamn angst, mental illness, and daddy issues into this one robot it's not even remotely funny.

In close second is Omega. This is another robot built by the same guy in universe as Metal, by the way, so he's got a similar yet different flavor of angst going on. Omega was hit with the typical "you are what you choose to be" arc that most fictional robots undergo, except his choice was "I WANT TO COMMIT MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF VIOLENCE. AND ALSO MAYBE MAKE FRIENDS BUT DON'T TELL ANYBODY THAT" and that fascinates me deeply.

Number 3 is, uh, idk? Kind of a toss-up. Probably a tie between Shadow (who's the traditional pick for a hurt/comfort character in this fandom) or Silver (optimistic time traveler dude who is just. so tragic sometimes.)

Have you ever written fic for a fandom?:

BOY HAVE I EVER-

The longest fanwork I've written so far is sitting pretty at around 44,000 words (it's an incredibly niche crossover between Babylon 5 and Knight Rider). My current WIP (the aforementioned one starring Metal Sonic), however, just broke 50k yesterday and I'm not even remotely close to finishing.

But yeah- I've been writing since 6th grade. Here's my very first ever fanfiction by the way, if you want an idea of how far I've come (or a good laugh.)

Have you ever drawn fanart for a fandom?:

I can count on one hand how many times I've tried. I can count on zero hands how many times I've succeeded.

Share a personal headcanon that you feel very strongly about:

If you follow my Sonic sideblog, you'll see all of my headcanons projectile-blasted at you daily.

Additionally, most of my headcanons are pretty fluid. I LOVE enjoying multiple interpretations of the same character, even and especially if they're contradictory. There's only been, like, two that I've ever been super crazy about.

The one that I'm weirdest about right now is Metal Sonic being some flavor of trans. This is the character that, upon gaining the ability to redesign their body however they wanted in canon, gave themselves long hair, a skirt, and a big dragon alternate mode. If that doesn't scream "transgender" for you, I don't know what will.

And finally, what does fandom mean to you?:

Fandom is a place where I get to share the joy of creation with other people! My favorite thing in the universe to do is "yes, and" people and develop ideas together. My second favorite thing in the universe to do is to encourage creators to tell me more about their fuckin' awesome ideas. My third favorite thing in the universe is seeing people react to my own work. I'm just writing the stories that make me happy, man, so to see people enjoying it brings me so much joy.

so it’s time to make some conclusions about house of the dragon after season 1 finale.

top 10 episodes in my opinion:

1. episode 5 “we light the way” (that was peak hotd, from thriller mini-film with daemon and his wife to tragedy with wedding, love affairs and murder. and then we have dangerous truths, schemes and the change and downfall of some characters because of them (alicent’s change because of accidental (criston) and intentional (larys) truth she’s been told and criston’s downfall because of his wounded ego and honour), and the end of rhaenyra’s youth, the realisation of her fate, the regrets and bitterness. just chief’s kiss).

2. episode 10 “the black queen” (it was a great finale, despite spoiling myself with many things i still enjoyed it, it was very monumental grand ending of a season with epic scenes and with a well crafted set up for future events, the whole episode felt very dark and with a sense of tragedy).

3. episode 4 “king of the narrow sea”(something about that episode felt so unique and fresh, i loved the looseness, the free spirit, the fire daemon brought in rhaenyra. the not so innocent and fortnight rhaenyra when she confronted alicent and her father about daemon (and it also was perfectly directed, especially i’m in love with scene of rhaenyra following daemon in the throne room at the beginning).

4. episode 8 “the lord of the tides” (viserys and his love for rhaenyra made this episode, the most emotional and peaceful one, the domestic vibes were well balanced with powerful scenes such as daemon cutting vaemond’s head and aemond’s hilarious and brilliant toast. oh god and the music was devastatingly beautiful).

5. episode 3 “second of his name” (once again a well balanced storytelling: the peaceful start that gains its pace slowly but strongly. i loved the quietness of the powerful scenes that hit you with a force by brilliant directing and acting).

6. episode 1 “the heirs of the dragon” (the beginning, that made me instantly caught up in that universe, the funeral scene is still one of my favourites, made me fell in love with rhaenyra. overall strong start).

7. episode 6 “the princess and the queen” (the first episode after a big time jump and one of main actors’ changes that actually made you used to them real quick because you almost instantly recognise the already beloved characters although the changes of a characters were also noticeable and palpable, i also liked that it was a very eventful episode with many wtf moments).

8. episode 7 “driftmark” (this episode was also very eventful and wtf moments were also present and overall it was a fantastic episode but it was the first time something felt off to me watching hotd. i don’t even know what it was i couldn’t tell).

9. episode 9 “the green council” (it is tied with episode 7 i would say. i liked that we were able to see greens’ perspective and what was happening from their point of view it was a clever choice to make audience feel conflicted. also the whole sequence of looking for aegon was fantastic and the final scene with coronation and rhaenys’s entrance was one of the coolest in the whole show but some plot felt tedious).

10. episode 2 “the rogue prince” (actually i really love this episode that scene alone with rhaenyra and rhaenys is one of the greatest in the whole show, i was in awe how well written and acted it was).

I am completely bored out of my mind so I decided to do "Pokémon starters of each race" headcanon collection.

Wolf:

I tried to give myself a limit of 6 Pokémon so here is my collection for the wolfs: Hisuian Growlith, Yamper, Rockruff, Vulpix (alolan or kantonian depends on if you are a girl or boy), Hisuian Zorua, Fennekin

What starter you get to choose is really dependent on your status, so whenever your family is rich, poor or what job your parents have

Yamper is the most common together with Fennekin. While Yamper is also used as helper for the hunt, or more its evolution tbh. Fennekin on the other hand mostly stays in its base evolution and gets evolved into Braixen at the most.

Rockruff gets widely used as a starter by the, not high society but fairly rich people. It's versitile often proves itself as sort of status. To show wich people are good hunters (nightform), very reliable when it comes to cleanliness (dayform) or even both (duskform).

Some of the more low class people also think that this is just used to be pretentious and to "not be like the other people".

Vulpix isn't really used as a starter anymore or at least the alolan version isn't. It proved itself with to many weaknesses. It once was very beloved but just kinda fell out of popularity after Fennekin was introduced and proved itself to be more reliable.

Now we get to the two Hisuian Pokémon. Growlith is really popular in the Royal guard. If you have even one parental figure in there you gonna get this Pokémon no matter if you like it or not.

Zorua is often used more so for Zoroark and by the Royal family. Zoroark symbolises strength and the instinct the Royal family has. While it's younger pre evo maybe somewhat of a crybaby Zoroark definetly isn't.

Vibora:

Dreepy, Dratini, Feebas, Snivy, Sillicobra, Goomy

I think you can see a pattern at this point and this is one of the easier ones to find starters that actually have some variation T-T

Anyway, Snivy and Sillicobra are widely used by the common folk with Snivy being more popular. Sillicobra does get used more by people near the sea as they can act as a help for floods.

Goomy is really popular with kids who get their starter early. You will see a bunch of kids running around with their tiny little goomy. Some parenty don't like them though since they're still slugs in a way and wich parent wants slugs running around their house?

Feebas, sadly, doesnt really get used. Not for any reason than just kids not liking the how it looks like. There are some families that dedicate themselves to the little Pokémon though!

Now to Dreepy. It is the starter that exists the longest, even being used when it still lived in the ocean.

There was huge gap where Dreepy weren't used due to them dying out. A rule that was established well back also prevented the breeding of starters so with the last dragapult dying, Dreepy also died out.

During this time Dratinis popularity went up. First to use and establish it was the father of the current leader and with him showing that Dragonair was indeed a strong Pokémon and the his child(ren) also using them, many more followed their example.

Eventually Dreepy came back in his current form it quickly got popular again and now remains as the most used starter.

The rule was also thrown out the window.

Vampires:

Finding starters for the Vampire "race" was probably the hardest thing to do. You have like 3 actual bat Pokèmon and one of them is absolut shit. So you can be against all of them.

Noibat, Zubat, Snom, Applin, Togepi, Gible

First of, Goble is very popular with boys. I mean what kid doesnt want a big dragon? Right I also know very few. sadly girls would also like gible but its not seen as good in society.

So girls often don't even get gible offered, instead they get Togepi instead. Not to underestimate Togepi but let them little Vampis have choice.

Noibat aslo gets chosen fairly often, more so by people who have hunters in their family or wanna be hunters because of its excelent echolocation.

Applin often gets used by the high society since Karls original starter was one and his Flapple is known to be very strong. (You better bet it has maxed out IV's, EV's and what not). This is also the reason one was forced upon Shu by beatrix, he never evolved it and its constantly sleeping on its head when out of his Pokeball.

Snom is just a tiny little guy and Frosmoths huge weakness to fire resulted in it not being used as much or kids even get laughed at by other young vampires for choosing it.

Zubat also is kinda just there. Reiji does chose one so it got midly more popular by families that try to get their daughter hooked up with any of the six princes.

Adler:

Rookidee, Rowlet, Swablu, Murkrow, Pidgey, Fletchling

This wasn't as hard as the Vampire ones but I still had quite the hard time.
