I remember you mentioned having a Mihawk playlist, and the way you manage to find songs that perfectly fit the vibes of your fics and enhance the reading experience is one of the things I love about your writing
So I was wondering if you could share some of the songs on your playlist? Or even some songs that you associate with certain characters/tropes/scenarios?
I always love it when you send me asks, @sexc-snail.
I absolutely DO have a Mihawk playlist. I share the playlist construction with another creator on Tumblr who I love, cherish and adore: @sordidmusings. We add to it as we write, recommend songs as they come to us to help with words in works.
I could get into a long, long rant about music so I will add a page break here ❤. Lots of song recs to follow for the OPLA cast so far.
Tumblr media
I am a violinist; have been playing for 25 years this year (I AM GETTING OLD, JEEPERS CREEPERS). Music is a great, passionate love affair for me and I adore learning about songs and pieces new and old. Here are some recommendations for songs and vibes I associate with the characters and the tropes.
I never add lyrics to my fics so the readers can visualize their own favourite melodies where they see fit, but I do have tunes in mind when I write them. The only fic I've really centralised a song about is the "You Should Be Sad" Mihawk fic I wrote a while back and the Koby series I'm writing.
Here are some song recommendations: all songs are Spotify linked. Enjoy a peek into my madness.

James Reese Europe (February 22, 1881 – May 9, 1919), known as Jim Europe, was an American ragtime and early jazz bandleader, arranger, and composer. He was the leading figure in the African American music scene of New York City. Eubie Blake called him the "Martin Luther King of music". He organized the Clef Club, a society for African Americans in the music industry. In 1912, the club made history when it played a concert at Carnegie Hall for the benefit of the Colored Music Settlement School. The Clef Club Orchestra, while not a jazz band, was the first band to play proto-jazz at Carnegie Hall. It is difficult to overstate the importance of that event in the history of jazz in the US – it was 12 years before the Paul Whiteman and George Gershwin concert at Aeolian Hall, and 26 years before Benny Goodman's famed concert at Carnegie Hall. The Clef Club's performances played music written solely by African American composers, including Harry T. Burleigh and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. His orchestra included Will Marion Cook, who had not been in Carnegie Hall since his performance as a solo violinist. Cook was the first African American composer to launch full musical productions, fully scored with a cast and story every bit as classical as any Victor Herbert operetta. He was known for his outspoken personality and unwillingness to bend to musical conventions, particularly in his insistence on playing his style of music. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence https://www.instagram.com/p/Co9sxPNL2hd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🔥Lelia Daniels✨
Lelia is a pyromancer, an illusionist, a violinist, and her fatal flaw is that she wants to help everyone. 🎻
Tumblr media
“Your transitions across strings are impeccable. You’re doing things I couldn’t dream of when I was your age.”
Lelia laughed. “Well, I have a cheat,” she said, splaying her hand out wide. The spaces between her left fingers were probably insignificant to the average onlooker, but every other string player she’d talked to knew what they were looking at. Some even asked if she was a cellist.
Loony Benny’s eyes shown with recognition, and he nodded. “You must do your hand stretches.”
“Something like that,” Lelia said.
In truth, her hands just naturally did that. But she wasn’t going to complain. She focused less on hand stretches and more on grip strength in an attempt to keep all of her ligaments functioning properly—while secretly hoping nothing blew out beyond repair.

Stella by Starlight by Victor Young (Jazz Standard, piano)
Stella by Starlight by Victor Young (Jazz Standard, piano solo) Sheet Music

Victor Young
Victor Young (Chicago, 1900 - Los Angeles, 1956) American musician who stood out for his work in the cinema as a composer of soundtracks. Considered one of the most influential musicians in Hollywood, Victor Young came to the world of cinema after some absolutely rocky beginnings. As he was the son of Polish emigrants and mastered the language of his parents, they decided to send him to Europe, thinking about his early musical education. He studied at the Warsaw Conservatory and soon accredited great musical gifts, surprising his teachers, who witnessed a brilliant career that led him in his teens to be the first violin of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. Until that moment, his career did not suffer any setbacks; but, in 1917, he agrees to go on a concert tour in Russia, in full revolutionary euphoria. Security guarantees were minimal and he, in fact, was arrested. Everything raised fears for his personal integrity when a Bolshevik officer, admired for his talent, planned the escape of Young, who seemed touched by bad luck, because shortly after outwitting the Russian authorities, he was arrested again, this time in Germany, a country where his presence was not opportune, either. Once again, his talent as a violinist was the safe-conduct that helped him get out of prison, heading to the United States. After the hectic European tour, Victor Young decides to settle in Los Angeles, where he gains fame as a violinist. Attracted by the world of cinema, he tries his luck in the orchestra that Paramount has on staff to interpret the soundtracks of its productions. To everyone's surprise, Young began composing and arranging scores, and did so with such ease that he has gone down in film history as one of the world's most prolific musicians.
Tumblr media
In his professional curriculum, there are around three hundred and fifty compositions and arrangements. His musical ability was best utilized by director Cecil B. DeMille, for whom Young composed unforgettable soundtracks such as those for Canadian Mounted Police and Samson and Delilah . However, Victor Young is best known for being the author of several western tunes without which it is difficult to explain the musical conventions of the genre: Johnny Guitar , Deep Roots and Rio Grande , among others. Although he devised soundtracks of unquestionable interest, in the case of The Quiet Man , he only won an Oscar, which was awarded posthumously, for Around the World in 80 Days , his cinematographic testament. Encyclopedia Brown thoughts: book 19
Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Two Spies
The Case of the Kidnapped Dog:
NGL, Royal Blackie is actually a pretty cool name.
Nice to see modern technology like laser printers finally coming into play.
"The ransom note doesn't appear to be written by a college graduate." Wow, snobby much, Encyclopedia?
The Case of the Fireflies:
Random fact: I like fireflies because they remind me of the adorable Hotaru Tomoe from Sailor Moon.
Another fly-catching girl? At least the first one didn't have a cutesy alliterative nickname...
On a related note, I would not want to be called Fannie.
What kind of medical research could be done with firefly abdomens?
The Case of the Duck Derby:
Another case where the title has nothing to do with the actual crime... :P
Of course, we're forced to read about the irrelevant duck derby as if anyone cares.
And then it turns into yet another attempt by Bugs to frame Encyclopedia. It's like Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, except without the funny.
The Case of the Sand Castle:
Sobol really does a good job of making Kevin look like the vandal, so I was actually surprised when it turned out not to be him, especially when he won the competition.
It works especially well because returning antagonist Tessie Bottoms is hot for him.
Tessie has a poodle named Cuddles? Aww, super cute!
The Case of the Stolen Wallet:
Benny Breslin cases are possibly even more boring than Lucy Fibbs cases, and unlike Lucy, Benny is a regular throughout the series. :(
Todd and Garth aren't quick thinkers, which, in Sobol's elitist world, automatically means that they're guilty.
Is this new tent the one that Gower bought him after The Case of the Leaking Tent?
Kind of ironic that Benny is a Detroit Lions fan, since his first case was also the last mention of the Lions gang.
Speaking of that first case, remember when Benny was into architecture? Because Sobol sure doesn't, any more than J.K. Rowling remembered Ron being a chess champion after book 1.
The Case of the Manhole Cover:
Is Lizzie Downing related to Mr. Downing from The Case of the Old Calendars?
Some of the background Wilford cases seem more interesting than the ones that are actually covered.
How would anyone get this solution? The only way I could think of that someone could get it would be by actually making a square manhole cover and attempting to drop it down a manhole, then doing the same with a regular round cover.
The Case of the Two Spies:
Nice touch, bringing back the Martin Inn from The Case of the Bank Robber, and confirming that it really is the crap-hole I assumed it was.
@brownencyclopedia: The reason that there's an FBI tail on Hudson isn't just because he quit his job. Hudson was working at a defense plant, and was likely proxy to confidential information. If I were a defense contractor, I'd want to keep tabs on all current and former employees, and would probably be required by the government to do so anyway.
The Case of the Violinist's Chair:
Xanikis is a really cool last name...
...and Taggart is a really cool name, period.
Finally, a non-teenaged bully with a given age. Specifically, because he's "the sixth-grade bully", he's eleven or twelve.
If Francis Xanathippe is so famous, how come we've never heard of him until now?
Why couldn't Taggart come up with some explanation for the FX on the chair where it wasn't initials?
The Case of the Stolen Coin:
What does this rare-coin club do at meetings when they don't show a favorite coin?

Meet the Blogger!
༺═──────────────═༻
Hello, everyone, and welcome! I should probably tell you a bit about myself.
I am a Puerto Rican/American transmasc/nonbinary person who goes by he/they pronouns, and I’m bisexual. Also disabled and mentally ill. You can call me Alex, or Quinn- or Quinnie, if we’re close.
I’m an artist, writer, photoshopper, violinist, singer, and editor. My main fandoms are Markiplier and Hannibal at the moment.
Adieu!
