The mausoleum is hidden in the woods off a seasonal road not far from Beardslee Castle and "Beardslee Falls" in the East Canada Creek. It was built by Augustus Beardslee and stands on private land. The crypt and nearby area is rumored to be haunted. Unfortunately, many years ago the mausoleum was vandalized and some of the bodies inside were desecrated. The metal gates are gone and all that remains now is the stone structure. The contents were moved to a cemetery somewhere in the nearby City of Little Falls as far as I understand. It does not seem to be maintained in any way.
It is also one of the few remaining makers for a community that once existed in this area called "Beardslee's Mills" or "Beardslee's City."
From The Evening Telegram; Local, Saturday, September 2, 2000:
"It represents a bygone era when the Beardslee family lived on East Creek in Manheim and helped bring prosperity to the area. John Beardslee was the pioneer of the family to first settle East Creek. Born in 1759 in Sharon, Conn., he moved to the Mohawk Valley where he undertook many building projects including mills in the Utica-Whitestown area and a number of bridges in the Little Falls and Fort Plain area. He liked the area and in 1794 purchased a 100-acre tract on which he built a home and mills along the creek in the town of Manheim. A settlement grew up around his home called Beardslee's Mills or Beardslee's City. By 1800, the town consisted of two stores, two taverns, a blacksmith shop, nail factory, cooperage, a brewery, a sawmill and grist mill. When the Mohawk Turnpike and the Erie Canal came along, trade began to dwindle because of the lack of proximity to the two main thoroughfares and the village slowly declined. All that remains today is the old cemetery located near the Beardslee Mausoleum, hidden from view in the woods."

The Beardslee Castle Little Falls, New York
The Beardslee Castle in Little Falls, New York stands today as an elegant restaurant. This beautiful structure stands in the midst of the Mohawk Valley on top of a small hill that overlooks the ever-popular route 5. Visitors and employees of this magnificent fine dining restaurant claim that there are many spiritual guests in addition to the several physical guests that visit this fine establishment on a daily basis.
In the year of 1860, Augustus Beardslee built the Beardslee Castle that now serves as one of the most revered restaurants in New York. His son, Guy, eventually laid claim to the castle. While all went relatively well under the watchful eye of Guy Beardslee, in the year of 1919, while he was away in Florida, the structure experienced a fire.
Restorations began and ended quickly. Guy Beardslee died in the year of 1937, immediately followed by his wife, Ethel, in 1941. Anton Christensen purchased the enormous structure immediately following these deaths and turned it into a restaurant. Unfortunately, a terminal illness pushed this man to his brink in the 1950’s and he committed suicide as a way to escape his ill health inside the castle.
Eventually, a man by the name of Joe Casillo would come to own the restaurant. This man, with respect to the original owners and creators, named the restaurant the “Beardslee Manor”. Restorations went into effect around the year of 1982 on the second floor of the magnificent castle. It was at this time that many individuals felt as if there were paranormal activities going on inside the building. Seventy years and seven months after the initial fire, on the 30th day of August in 1989, yet another fire occurred in the castle. While the building suffered damage, it was not beyond restoration. It lay abandoned until 1992 when two individuals by the names of Randall Brown and Tim Baumeister purchased it. Now, it has been renamed “Beardslee Castle” and is currently in full operation.
The story of Beardslee Castle would not be complete without the story of the hauntings of the castle. One of the first stories that circulated included those that spoke of a manly figure that seemed to be completely surrounded by shadows. However, there was also said to be a female that wore white that took the appearance of an apparition. She was commonly referred to as the “lady in white”. It was unknown as to what this man and woman spirit was seeking by haunting the castle, but it is believed that they may be early generation Beardslee family members.
When the Beardslee Castle first became a restaurant, there were several unusual situations that occurred. The individuals who worked in the kitchen stated that it was quite common to discover kitchen utensils and dishes to be moved. Those that worked in the table area and prepared the tables for guests were often quite perturbed to discover that after they had worked so hard to set all the tables, the settings would be disheveled and even moved altogether. In many cases, these dishes could not even be located once they were found to be missing.
Many exciting tales of hauntings, noises, lights, growls, and things that go bump in the night have been said to wander the grounds and floors of the Beardslee Castle, do you dare to uncover the truth?

FREYA RIDINGS - CASTLES
[5.30]
Our highest-scoring song with 'castle' in the title ever! (The other song, like one-fourth of all songs ever released, is by Ed Sheeran.)
Joshua Lu: A redhead Londoner singer/songwriter with a grandiose style and sweeping vocals -- the obvious comparison is to Florence Welch, and for the most part, it's a flattering one. Freya Ridings shares Florence's ability to transmute sadness into galloping jams, sacrificing no lyrical intimacy in the process. But on "Castles," she's held back by her occasionally mushy-mouthed delivery and an instrumental that's too dull to give this song the pathos it craves. [5]
Iain Mew: Freya Ridings's chart success was facilitated by "Lost Without You" being used on Love Island. The usual stock-in-trade for the show's emotional couplings, uncouplings and departures is piano covers of well-known songs (among last week's: "Love Will Tear Us Apart"), not in the super mopey cover mode but minimal enough to match recognisability to a bit of fresh starkness. "Lost Without You" wasn't a cover but sounded familiar and striking enough to fit the model perfectly. "Castles" is not minimal, but gets to the same combination by a different route. The Bastille-style rolling wave of the chorus signals emotion without letting it dominate, leaving the striking newness to the lyrics. She gives the verses plenty of hints of darkness beyond a breakup -- "Your love it seemed so harmless, I never noticed..." before the chorus promise to "build castles from the rubble of your love". Taking the ideas of strength in adversity and living well as the best revenge and combining them to something preposterous and towering, it's a brilliant and sharp enough image to lift the whole song. [7]
Will Adams: In which Freya Ridings storms the Bastille to deploy a metaphor about rebuilding after a breakup, which might sound impactful had it not been done better (and more succinctly) decades ago by one Marsha, who said: "Oh tell me why do we build castles in the sky?" [4]
Scott Mildenhall: If it were still the early '00s, Freya Ridings would have a million-selling album by now -- not quite as posh as Dido or Blunt, but close enough. Yet alas the David Grays have won, and you now have to be a gruff/rag and bone man to get even a fraction of the way there. But did Charlene Soraia go in vain? Not on this reckoning. Soaringly uneventful and satisfyingly unchallenging, it beds its way in with the radio-assisted persistence it aims for. [7]
Stephen Eisermann: There's something so satisfying about the tempo of this track and the way it plays with production throughout. Freya's lyrics are charming, if a tad generic, but her powerful voice, the backing vocals, and the born-again production take this song from simply nice to pretty dang good. [7]
Tim de Reuse: Thick, aggressively multi-tracked vocals that chant a triumphant chorus for over two minutes of a three-and-a-half minute tune over punchy drums and glamorous production -- it sounds wonderful, but it's one of those desserts you only need to take three bites of before you're full, you know? [6]
Alfred Soto: Kick drum often works as a chef's kiss, and in a live setting this percussion and Ridings' voice, which has Florence Welch's cottony thickness, would probably get me hopping. But the uplift gets phony fast. [4]
Kayla Beardslee: What would happen if you took one line from a Taylor Swift chorus, expanded it into an entire song, and layered Jess Glynne's voice (and face, kind of) over it? If "Castles" is anything to go by, the result would not be particularly remarkable. The verses show some promise, melody and strong beat mixing together well, but there's no nuance introduced to the sound when the chorus hits, just the same plodding drums and piano chords that get trotted out for most quasi-inspirational tunes like this. [3]
Iris Xie: Aside from the "whoa-oh"s at 2:02, this pretty much sounds like a Jess Glynne song except with rockier instrumentals cutting the edges of Ridings' vocals, like thumbs shredded on blunt cheese graters. It's a lament packaged as serrations, shoved down to the bottom of a mediocre clearance bin and covered in flimsy plastic wrap. Even the imagery of "building castles from the rubble of your love" is just agreeably nice, suitable for when you sit alone at the airport bar, nursing an overpriced cocktail, secretly begging for your flight to leave on time. "Castles" lacks true bite and ugliness that makes a triumphant sentiment worth the agony of transformation. [5]
Katherine St Asaph: More than a little Florence, in vocal heft and non-enunciation. (By repetition number six, which is reached quickly, the hook starts to sound like "castles! fruddaribbadadalove!" On the bright side, music teachers now have a tongue-twister besides "Many Mumbling Mice.") Also more than a little ABBA, specifically in the stately chorus ushered in by mopey verses; Google the lyrics without hearing the song, and you might mentally set them to drippy piano. And definitely more than a little -- so infinitely much more than a little -- fervent desire to please, from the piano breakdown, to the kick drum nagging like Navi, to the "Be My Baby" percussion interpolated twice, once way earlier than you'd expect or than would be most effective, as if the writers just couldn't wait to drop it in. It's all swelling and no pain. [5]

Renee <3 Jess. This beautiful wedding took place inside the historic Beardslee Castle in upstate New York. Set amongst the most magnificent stonework, these brides said I DO and danced the night away to the hot rock sounds of Hot Cousin.

#225: Hold a Special Event at Beardslee Castle (or just have dinner there)
Sometimes I wonder how I find the quirkiest places, and this place would make my top 10 list of odd places to visit in the area. Beardslee Castle is a castle (restaurant and special events facility) located in Little Falls, NY. It was constructed in 1860 as a replica of an Irish castle.
The place is a weird mixture of quaint and adorable with seriously haunted joojoo. They hold murder mystery dinners there, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND checking one of these out!
The main floor is the main dining room. Upstairs is a banquet hall reserved for weddings and large events. In the cellar is a series of tavern-like rooms with some tavern games and a bar. They call it a dungeon (aptly named). They also have a wine room in the cellar, good for intimate dinners.
The castle is widely rumored and reported to be haunted. It was the scene for investigations by The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) in June 2010. It was also featured in a segment of "Haunted History" on the History Channel in 1999. The website has a bunch of ghost stories, so check them out.
I was here a few years ago: a friend of mine was celebrating a big birthday, so his fiancee threw him a surprise party. It was a murder-mystery party (just for our group); the restaurant catered it with food, and our friends ran the storyline. We all came dressed in costume. It was an awesome time, and the castle staff were very accommodating to ensure we all had a good time! (Yes, that's me in white, looking a bit ridiculous as "Cindy Crawfish!")
NOTE: The whole place, including the main dining room, smells a bit musty. ESPECIALLY in the dungeon downstairs. If you have must/mold allergies, I'm not sure that this is a good locale for you.

successful day. went shopping and to breakfast this morning with my parents, then went to beardslee castle afterwards with everyone to look at it to know what we have to decorate for the wedding in two weeks, then vacuumed and cleaned the house a bit for mom. Then for the past like hour or so I've been putting in job applications and thinking about my future for moving to Boston. Gah. So exciting but so scary. Now, I think I'm going to look up things for my graduation party since mom said I need to start looking into that kind of stuff so it can be badass and I also have to start taking practice permit tests so i can get that soon. Crazyyyy!
