Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
We are called to be holy; in fact, Scripture tells us that βwithout [holiness] no one will see the Lordβ (Hebrews 12:14).
Unfortunately, many Christians have a βform of godlinessβ without being indwelt by the Holy Spirit. They may wear a cross necklace, go to church, get baptized, and yet they arenβt saved. Unlike what C.S. Lewis believed, no one can will themselves to become a Christian (Romans 8:7). God alone draws His elect to Him. How does one become a Christian? As Martyn Lloyd-Jones said: βNo man can do it, no priest can do it, no church can do it, no human or authority or power can ever do it, it's impossible. It's not within the realm of the possibilities opened to men to make anybody else a Christian... How does it happen [then]? ... It is God alone who can do that.β
Many Christians live secretly in sin. They might have the outward appearance of holiness, they may fool us, and we may never find out about their allegiance to sin in this life, but God will not be mocked and they will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The apostle Paul is clear: avoid the ones living unholy lives. Paul preaches total avoidance, to the point of βnot even to eatβ with a βso-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindlerβ (1 Corinthians 5:11). Avoiding Christians who are living outside of Godβs will is a command. We must minister to them so that they may truly repent of their sins and believe, but the apostle Paul is clear that we are not to be friends with such so-called Christians living in rebellion against God's Word.
Be holy, as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16).
Y'all, the world is sleeping on what NASA just pulled off with Voyager 1
The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.
So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.
So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.
Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.
And the probe is working again.
From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.
is THIS your man? [shows an image of a malnourished injured exhausted man with big sad eyes looking up at the camera with blood smeared all over his face and mouth. and he is visibly trembling]
Everyone gives Sherlock Holmes a hard time about being mean about Watson's writing, but honestly imagine you told your roommate "sure, you can write up an account of my work for the newspaper," thinking it would be like, about the murder, but then he publishes it and it's 90% about you, as a person, and it's a huge hit and now everyone in London knows that you hoard newspapers and do cocoaine when you're depressed. Because I think you'd be little miffed too.
i went to a tiny counterserve diner once and accidentally poured sugar instead of salt all over my hashbrowns and was eating them sadly anyways. the waitress took them away and started making me another one and I tried to protest, but she just snorted and said "we're not catholic here". now every time i'm doing something painful out of obligation i think about how that is not repenting, this body is not a catholic establishment, there is no nobility in suffering.
