How did none of my fellow bellydance friends tell me all the classic Arabic songs in Moon Knight?!?! Literally less than 5 mins into episode 1 is Abdel Halim Hafez's Khosara, although most people probably thought it was Jay-Z's Big Pimpin'.
Lots of other absolute classics too like Batwanes Beek by Warda & Alf Leyla Wa Leyla by Oum Kalthoum.
If you liked the music in Moon Knight I recommend checking out some of the other pieces & artists mentioned here. You may actually recognize more than you think. I personally recommend anything by Upper Egypt Ensemble.

I may well put together a Spotify playlist too, but Suhaila's list is *muah*.

More Music! Part 3.
OH MAN. I love this episode musically. You don’t understand. Listen to it. We are out of London. We are now in Cairo. You aren’t going to get any more English songs. No more Bob Dylan. All the themes now are just the music of Arthur’s swinging pendulum, Madness,  Moon Knight’s theme, and a wonderful Marc/Layla theme.
Episode 3 song list: (there is more than is listed here, but these are the ones I’m going to talk about)
Enta - DJ Kaboo
Batwanes Beek - Warda
Salka (feat. Wegz) - Hassan Shakosh
The Boat - Hesham Nazih
Constellation - Hesham Nazih
-
Arab Trap 4 "Enta" - DJ Kaboo
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT OPENING?!
From the first few beats that come over the Marvel opening credits, we know we aren't in London anymore. WELCOME TO CAIRO.
This song comes back in full over the end credits and I couldn’t love it more. DJ Kaboo likes to take old classic Arabic song samples and mix them up into a more modern take. And I’m here for it. We first heard what he did with “Made in Egypt” in episode two. But this one takes the cake.
This time he is sampling from an old song “Batwanes Beek” by Warda.
Now there are FURTHER easter eggs. All these old songs getting sampled? The originals can be found scattered here and there on the radio! We hear Batwanes Beek playing in original form in the Taxicab Marc wakes up in!
So the song itself? The title translates to "You're always with me".
That's cheeky. Considering Marc, Steven, and Jake are currently all battling it out to get different objectives done.
Lyrics of the song?
"I cherish your company when you are with me. I Cherish your company and I find my world when you are close to me."
Go listen to both versions. You won’t regret it!
Speaking of hidden songs, the composer really took any opportunity to hide old classics any time there was a chance for a radio to be on. “Shaghalony” by Abdel Halim Hafez can also be briefly heard right around the boat ride up the Nile. Abdel Halim Hafez is scattered throughout the show. He’s kind of a big deal in Egypt. A singer, composer, actor, you name it guy from the 50s-70s. So he pops up a lot as tribute.
There are other songs and tributes that pop up and I’m not going to catch them all or bring them up, but keep a sharp ear out for them!
Talk about the next gem?
Salka (feat. Wegz) - Hassan Shakosh
This is the party song on the boat ride up the Nile. So what is the party song about? The gist of it is that it’s about Going Fast. He's going fast down the road passing everything by and holding tight as they ride. “I’m a ferrari” is literally in the lyrics. I imagine that Marc and Layla’s ‘adventures’ were very much like this song. ‘Hold tight and tell me if you’re scared’ is one of the lyrics.
SPEAKING OF THE BOAT. Let’s get into the man himself: HESHAM NAZIH.
This is where his talent really pops out. Up to this point, unless he was blasting Moon Knight’s overture or sneaking up on you with Harrow’s theme, the other background songs were mostly going unnoticed.
But this scene is quiet. This is Layla talking to Marc about the past and their relationship. This is Marc hiding from his feelings and problems like he does best.
We get to hear the boat ride song clearly and it really does set the tone.
A simple piano piece that seems to wander downward. It wants to be romantic. It wants to be soft and sweet, but it turns into sadness with a slight edge. We are looking at Marc’s inner feelings here. We hear the boat theme again at the very end of the credits. Their relationship is complicated. It wants to try but it can’t until Marc is ready to open up. And this song is so closed off.
The biggest one I want to get into here is CONSTELLATION.
What a scene! What a song! It starts so quietly as Khonshu prepares to go back to the night of sadness for him. We get the slight Moon Knight theme overture with more of an urgency to it.
It grows in power and urgency with the choir growing and there's this pause then you hear the singing! Strong and powerful. Then quiet again.
I've read in some breakdown interview somewhere that the choir is often chanting in Ancient Egyptian dialects. Most often the chanting is what Khonshu offered to Marc "Life and glory shall be yours". More often than not, the chanting is heard when Khonshu's direct influence is being had. Either through Moon Knight or when he is messing with the sky.
Honestly, all of the songs are so fully thought through. Any time we hear chanting there is a purpose. Oftentimes when there is conflict between Marc and Steven the chanting gets dissonant to show the conflict. When a new element is introduced, a new voice in the song will start to sing. We’ll get more into that in later episodes.
Seriously people, go listen to these older songs and the remixes. Explore the Egyptian music! They’ve got a lot of heart in them.
Then give the soundtrack a listen to and appreciate Hesham Nazih’s talent!
