I just want to show how much an artist can improve in their craft: I re-edit this render from Moira (left), adding more contrast, shadows and light to her skin, clothes and jewelry. Also: some hair strands with the marvelous Wacom tablet, which was the best purchase I ever made. It’s crazy to see so much difference between both versions (old one is right), and I’m super proud of it!!

Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
I keep returning to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise hoping someone will find something to do with it but all I get are zero-star movies. Texas Chainsaw 3D is the latest in a series of bad decisions. It’s a laughable slasher whose plot is so poorly conceived I wonder if you’ll believe me when I tell you about it or think I’m trolling.
Following the events of the original film, the people of Newt, Texas, burn down the Sawyer clan farmhouse, killing the entire murderous family. All except for baby Edith Rose Sawyer, who is adopted and raised without knowledge of her true family. Years later, the re-named Heather (Alexandra Daddario) receives a letter from her real grandmother, who has just passed away. Travelling to the mansion she’s inherited with her boyfriend Ryan (Trey Songz), best friend Nikki (Tania Raymonde), Nikki’s boyfriend Kenny (Keram Malicki-Sánchez) and a hitchhiker they pick up on the way (Shaun Sipos), they are unaware a surviving Leatherface (Dan Yeager) lives in the basement.
Where to begin? Firstly, this picture makes the catastrophic mistake of trying to make Leatherface into an anti-hero, asking us to ignore that whole cutting people in half with a chainsaw, chopping up innocents into stew and skinning travellers so he can wear their faces thing. It’s bewildering beyond words. Director John Luessenhop tries to make the killer sympathetic by introducing a bunch of new villains: a murderous troupe of rednecks who murdered the Sawyer family years ago. How many years ago? Even the film can’t get it straight. The original Massacre took place in 1974. That would make Heather roughly… 39 at the time this film was made, unless - of course - it was set in in the '90s, or earlier. Except it isn’t. We know because we see a police officer - the dumbest police officer in any slasher movie - brandish a smart phone so he can livestream his investigation to his peers at the police station. This means the “teens” in this slasher movie DO NOT have cellphones… but the adults do. We’re just getting started on how awful Texas Chainsaw 3D gets.
Entirely devoid of scares, this sequel ignores all other sequels (no big loss to anyone who managed to sit through Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation) and attempts to capture the raw terror of the original but fails miserably. Its cast of bad actors run around like fools and you can’t wait for them to get sliced. Anything to get this bore over with. Everything about the plot is so contrived it drains the life out of you. It makes you angry thinking someone wrote “but Heather decides NOT to read the letter detailing how the basement houses a hulking cannibalistic maniac with a fetish for gas-powered wood-cutting tools, setting up the grizzly events which followed” and thought “yes, this is good”.
You can take as many dives into the cesspool of waste that is Texas Chainsaw 3D as you want. You'll always find new things to complain about. We’re supposed to believe the first film took place by a small town? I always assumed it was in the middle of nowhere! Even if you separate it entirely from the original - which believe it or not is a good film, unlike all of these follow-ups - this 2013 slasher is a chore to get through, an ugly attempt to cash-in on a brand name that can't end soon enough. Texas Chainsaw 3D isn’t merely bad, it’s inexcusably bad. (2D version on DVD, March 30, 2019)

SO I've been thinking about this since someone asked me a good question yesterday on if I'll also answer questions for more unwitting conspirators like Barok and Kazuma, Daley Vigil, and Barry Caidin. My short answer is, yes! You can send in asks for these four as well. They carry out functions in the conspiracy, and have varying levels of knowledge regarding it just like everyone else featured, even Barok and Kazuma who are opposed to it.
There's a caveat, though. Essentially my reservation with adding Barok and Kazuma to this blog was that I don't want them, as main characters who are extremely popular, to overshadow the others on this blog in terms of usage. My issue with Barry Caidin and Daley Vigil is that... erm... I'm not as used to writing them fdkgkdfgsdk. But I also like being challenged creatively so-
I don't know if I'll need to "do" anything to keep these from being problems, so for now I'm just keeping it in mind for myself.
But! for ensemble asks (since I've gotten a few of them already,) just note that while any of the seven characters I've already advertised can get in on it if they have something to say, these fringe four will not be included. You'll need to specifically ask for them if you want them to reply!

do you have any starstruck odyssey headcanons? or any headcanons from any other seasons? i love hearing your thoughts about stuff like that!
hell yes i do
the ship's cameras recorded Skip's sprinting right after he woke up for the first time. The crew often uses it to mock him. (it will "accidentally" play instead of 100 Fast 100 Furious)
margaret doesn't actually like matcha that much, but she asked for it once from Sid and just never had the heart to explain.
it's an unspoken rule to never go "to the gym" with Big Barry Syx. There is no gym, he will just use his "workout partner" as the weights.
Riva tried coffee once. Never again.
Gunnie charts the stars by hand in his spare time. He has a 3D model for different vantage points in the galaxy
every one of the Gunner Channel likes their popcorn a different way for movie night (Skip: every topping he can find. has been know to put an egg in his popcorn. Marge: lightly buttered with a little bit of fancy flavored salt that she keeps in its own little glass jar. Barry: slightly burnt. Sid: very burnt. Riva: saltyyyy!! very salty. Gunnie: so much butter. so much. )

Looming vs. Natural Reproduction - what on Gallifrey's going on here?
As the first of the trending topics, GIL's noticed some confusion about the concept of looming vs. natural reproduction in Gallifreyans. Have no fear; GIL's here to help.
🧬 What is looming?
It's a bit like 3D printing, but for people. These Rassilon-created Genetic Loom Breeding-Engines weave new Gallifreyans from a mix of matter and biodata. Looms produce Gallifreyans of all genders, (though females are loomed slightly less frequently). Each House has its unique Loom, which embeds familial traits into its creations.
❓ Why is looming a thing?
The invention of Looms was Rassilon’s grand solution to a serious problem. Following the catastrophic Curse of Pythia, Gallifrey faced extinction. The Looms became lifelines, ensuring the continuity of Gallifreyan civilisation.
🔮 What is the Curse of Pythia?
The Pythias were a kind of magical matriarchal monarchy, with rulers known as Pythias ruling over ancient Gallifrey in succession. Pythia number 309 (out of 309) was elbowed out by Rassilon. She was, understandably, really hacked off. She condemned Gallifrey to wither and then threw herself into the Crevasse of Memories That Will Be, never to be seen again. This 'withering' is known as the 'Curse of Pythia'. It resulted in mass sterility of Gallifreyans - supposedly instantly killing babies in their mother's wombs, and preventing any Gallifreyan from reproducing naturally from that point forward.
🍷 So Gallifreyans used to reproduce naturally?
Yes. Before the sterility curse, Gallifreyans reproduced just like humans, with a little wine, a candlelit dinner and maybe an album by Barry White.
✨ So does this 'Curse' still exist?
No. The apparent lifting of Pythia's curse was marked by Leela's pregnancy (yes, THAT Leela), which hailed a return to natural reproduction among Gallifreyans. Others besides Leela have also been able to reproduce naturally.
🔄 So what method do they use?
This blend of technological and biological means of reproduction leaves Gallifreyans in a unique position. They could use both methods depending on social, political, or personal factors.
🧐It can't all be that simple, GIL ...
Wow, you've been here before, haven't you?
There are accounts that the supposed 'Curse of Pythia' didn't actually come from Pythia.
Self-inflicted: Some say it was a side-effect of a massive time tech experiment that went awry.
It never existed: Others suggest there never was a curse. Rassilon, seeking absolute control, concocted a narrative to enforce a sterile, controllable society, eradicating the unpredictability of natural birth and driving forward eugenics in his perfect society.
🏫 So ...
Thus, the plot thickens. Were Gallifreyans always capable of natural reproduction but held back by societal constructs and fear? Did Leela's pregnancy unveil a truth long buried or simply reawaken a dormant biological ability? That's up to you.
But of course, GIL denies this version of events, cos how else would we get the funding for all the biscuits in the canteen from the High Council? Praise Rassilon!
