Disappointed Nigerians say new naira notes printed with “Snapchat filters”
Tumblr media
Nigerians have expressed disappointment about the look of the newly redesigned naira notes which were unveiled earlier today by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Across social media, the general feedback shows that many people are underwhelmed as the new banknotes fell below their expectations.
Many of the people who have criticised the newly unveiled banknotes were particularly critical of the colours. They pointed out that the banknotes look like they were printed with Snapchat filters.
What’s the relevance? Some Nigerians on Twitter even described the new banknotes as poor quality, attributing the poor designs as proof of the naira’s depreciation. Others questioned the relevance of the redesign, considering how much the CBN must have spent on the project.
One Twitter user identified as Seun Bamidele called the new banknotes “photoshop” and questioned how much was spent for such a shabby job. He said:
News continues after this ad
“By the way, how much was spent on this supposed Naira redesign? Let’s ask questions! Because this is a Photoshop exposure, contrast, and warmth editing and export that takes less than a minute!”

Okay, Bhatair or Velvare?
inky………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..you know that this ask could not be answered in anything shorter than an essay. buckle up hon
for starters, i love this character. he’s so deeply flawed, but that’s what fascinates me.
vel and bay have both made really selfish and stupid decisions and yet. they both have tried so hard to be noble? even though velvare is bhatair’s idealized version of himself, i believe velvare is the lesser man. he’s the shell in fancy clothes. bhatair may have been immature around joshua and rash and selfish and argumentative, but he was genuine. he was the one who freed melete from herarat. he let his father have the curse that HE had the right to. he had faith in apen’s goodness and his ability to end an age-old conflict even when apen was just a child. even a little thing like giving starving noah a loaf of bread was an act of selflessness.
“but rey what about the elephant in the room” oh, you mean when bay gave away his son? here’s my take on it: i think he did it to protect enel. he didn’t want crazy shephards and axe murderers and vengeful curses coming after his youngest child - think about it. his oldest son died of disease (or maybe not but that’s what he says so we’ll go with it). his daughter was cut to pieces and left permanently scarred and disabled. sending enel away probably saved his life. bhatair thought it was the right thing to do - but he didn’t consider that ‘saving’ enel would mean losing gudrun.
the thing is, bhatair tries. he tries so hard, and makes a lot of mistakes, and its the results of those mistakes that lead him to the unhealthy attempted ~superior~ state he’s in as velvare.
velvare is… for lack of a better word, fake. he looks impeccable on the outside, but he never let go of that inherent selfishness that was his downfall from the start. he just covered it up with philanthropic deeds. (declining the crown? what a selfless man! adopting the orphaned prince? such nobility! ruling as the castellan? wonderful in gallitan’s eyes!) he went so far as to play off his own hunger for power as saving gallitan from bellingrath’s fate. little do his followers know of his deeper motivations or his actual relationship with his adopted son.
and because velvare is bhatair’s ~idealized self~, he doesn’t see his own flaws. its not that he thinks he can do no wrong, but that he thinks he’s justified right where he is - and that is a fatal frame of mind. that’s what blinds him to avidan’s situation and desperate need for love. velvare is so caught up in ‘being the mask’ that he’s lost sight of his original nobility.I’m not saying velvare isn’t noble. he’s done great things for gallitan as a country and gallitan as a people, but his motivation is wrong. (“let me tell you what i have done for the library.”) he’s all about doing ‘good’ for his own self-image
i really love the complexity that laura has written into him and i hope he learns to grow as a character and that his arc gets the satisfying conclusion he deserves. (is it too much to hope for forgiveness from gudrun and a family reunion?)
tl;dr i prefer bhatair because velvare is (in the words of laura) FAKE AND INEDIBLE
but to keep it real - all of this could change if future chapters show alternate takes and different motivations than what’s given in the comic thus far.

OC asks time! 25 and 34?
(le meme)
huzzah! my favorite time!
25. Are there any two characters that are like a dynamic duo/group?
honestly, a lot of my characters travel in packs, but Shai tends to sort of ... move in and out of various dynamic duos depending on what they're doing. if they need to openly kick some ass, they're probably going to do so with their BFF/pseudo-semi-romantic-but-kind-of-platonic partner Daniel (property of @nicxan even if I shamelessly borrow him a lot). if they need to get more covert/stealth shit done, they're probably going to be with their spouse, Ari (property of @vecchio-fastidioso but I also shamelessly borrow them a lot), 'cause Shai on their own is only very reluctantly okay at stealth.
I'm ... not sure if Bamidele counts as being part of one of Shai's dynamic duos. he's the boyfriend that Shai and Ari share. (the version of Bamidele that originated in Fallen London was a devil. the version of him I imported into Threshold is a gargoyle.) primarily, his job is grabbing the others by the back of their shirt collars and hauling their asses out of trouble when they inevitably get in over their heads. he's less 'dynamic' and more 'much beleaguered.'
Ivan gets a special mention because Shai recruits him for stuff that is certainly dynamic, but it is, without fail, all shit that Shai Does Not Want To Do, so they fuck off and leave it to Ivan whenever possible, which sort of eliminates the 'duo' part.
really, the only one Shai spends a fair amount of time with in Threshold who ISN'T part of some sort of dynamic duo is Jayne, by virtue of him being a hapless 20-something who fell through a portal and doesn't know his ass from his head for most of the story. he tries his best.
34. What scene that you’ve written/imagined is your favorite?
ehhhhhh it changes by the day. occasionally the entirety of Brothers that I have written so far is my favorite. sometimes I'm just super psyched up about a fanfic scene I want to write but then inevitably fail to do so. (at the moment I'm very psyched up to write a DA2 fic of my emotionally constipated Hawke having a fit in Varric's vicinity. my friend Ala knows what I'm talking about, probably.)
and there's a nugget in my brain for a visual novel that I'm pretty jazzed about, though it's really just the smallest kernel of an idea still. it would take a lot of work to do and do well and a lot of money to make it presentable, and so I keep balking.

774,000 Jobs: Keyamo Will Take Charge, Labour Ministry Replies National Assembly.
Tumblr media
NDE must report to minister of state, says ministry spokesman • N52bn public works fund for NDE, not ministry , Senate insists
The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity on Wednesday rejected resolutions of both chambers of the National Assembly calling for the removal of the Minister of State , Festus Keyamo , from supervising recruitment of 774 ,000 Nigerians for the Special Public Works programme. The ministry’ s Deputy Director , Press and Public Relations , Mr Charles Akpan, in an interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja, said “ nothing has changed.” The Senate and the House of Representatives, had at their separate sessions on Tuesday , asked the President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ) , to stop Keyamo from supervising the recruitment of 774, 000 Nigerians. Recall that the lawmakers and Keyamo last month clashed when the minister was ordered out of the sitting of the Senate committee investigating the special works programme . The senators accused him of raising his voice against them. On July 1, the National Assembly said it had stopped the planned recruitment on the grounds that Keyamo had hijacked it from the National Directorate of Employment. But despite the National Assembly ’s directive, Keyamo, on July 14 , said he had got the approval of the President to supervise the recruitment. The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila , subsequently met the President over the issue . After the meeting, Buhari ’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity , Garba Shehu, in a statement titled, “ President Buhari reads riot act to ministers, MDAs , chief executives on relationship with NASS, ” said the President had warned his appointees that he would not accept any act of disrespect to the National Assembly. On Tuesday , the National Assembly said the Minister of Labour, Employment and Productivity , Senator Chris Ngige, should supervise the programme. In the Senate , the Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary , Human Rights and Legal Matters, Opeyemi Bamidele, brought the motion through a point of order . He said Keyamo erred in law by taking over an assignment which was constitutionally assigned to the NDE through the Revised 2020 Appropriation Act. He said the Federal parliament approved N52bn for the NDE to execute the exercise but lamented that the labour ministry, through Keyamo , had hijacked it .
But Akpan told The PUNCH that the exercise would be supervised by Keyamo , under whose office the NDE operates. Akpan stated , “ The special works programme is with the NDE, but our ministry is the supervising ministry for NDE and because of that, we monitor their activities and the ministry of labour was given the responsibility to handle that assignment , and it is under the supervision of the minister of state . So, whatever the directorate does, it would report to the minister of state ; so nothing has changed.” N 52bn public works fund for NDE , not labour ministry , Senate insists When asked to react to the Ministry of Labour’s statement , the spokesperson for the Senate, Senator Ajibola Basiru, said the position of the red chamber on the 774, 000 job recruitment issue had not changed.
The senator told one of our correspondents that the copy of the Appropriation Act signed by the President by virtue of Section 82 recognises the National Directorate on Employment as the agency saddled with the responsibilities of implementing the Federal Works Programme. He said , “ The Appropriation Act in making provision for N 52b for the public works had the NDE in mind. There is a difference between the agency and the Ministry of Labour. “ The NDE is not the same as the ministry of labour , employment and productivity and they are not at par. “ What the Senate is insisting is that it is not by accident that the budget was domiciled in the NDE and not the main ministry. “ In carrying out the budget in order not to breach the law , the executive must comply with the terms of this. “ The budget is not just the amount that has been earmarked, it is also earmarked for whom that amount of money should be spent, and also the agency saddled with that responsibility.
“ The budget is specific as to the agency in which the budget is domiciled , it is the NDE, No minister can assume a power that is not vested in terms of expending money that has been appropriated . “ It is clear in our resolution . We are not doubting the fact that the agency in which the minister is the chairman has power of supervision but power of supervision is different from power for implementation and our power of oversight under the constitution is not only about corruption it is also about exposing inefficiency. “ We are insisting that the legality and the constitutionality of the programme must be followed to the letter. “ The Appropriation Act is a legal instrument that must be followed . “ We have sounded a note of warning to anybody that the budget ( N52 bn) must be implemented according to the letter. ”

774,000 jobs: Senate asks NDE to take over recruitment from Keyamo The Senate on Tuesday ordered the National Directorate of Employment to take over the recruitment process of the 774, 000 temporary federal jobs from the Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Productivity. Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Opeyemi Bamidele, brought the motion through a point of order, to the Senate. He drew the attention of the red chamber to the claims by the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Kayamo, SAN, who said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, (retd.), had asked him to proceed with the recruitment process. He noted that Keyamo has erred in law by taking over an assignment which was constitutionally assigned to the NDE through the Revised 2020 Appropriation Act. He noted that the federal Parliament approved the sum of N52bn for the NDE to execute the exercise but lamented that the Labour ministry, through Keyamo, had hijacked it. He said the Revised Appropriation Act should be binding on the federal government and its agencies. The Senate, therefore, resolved that the NDE should take full charge of the implementation while the ministry would play a supervisory role. The upper also said its committees would carry out necessary oversight functions on the recruitment process. The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, said the NDE remained the agency recognised to implement the programme. He said, “The Senate will perform its roles by monitoring its implementation very closely.” Like page, follow us on Twitter @celesylvupdates www.celesylvupdates.com https://www.instagram.com/p/CC6SK4wpLIP/?igshid=l2dlh7c6s7r3

Support to George Floyd Actions by John Boyega
Tumblr media
Star Wars franchise star John Boyega, the violent reaction of George Floyd's murder by the police, came to the fore in social media. Reactions are growing against the murder of a black citizen named George Floyd in the US state of Minneapolis by the police while being detained. John Boyega, who was engraved with the Finn character in the Star Wars series, also reacted to what happened on his Twitter account. "I hate fucking racists," Boyega said in a message. While Boyega's tweet was liked by more than a million people, some social media users criticized the famous actor for using profanity. Boyega ignored the criticism and said, “This is my personal account. I am not here for children. ” The famous actor then gave a harder response to the criticisms directed to him with a video he posted on his Instagram account. “This is an ongoing cycle and it's going on,” says Boyega. I don't live in the USA, but I'm black. S… m. That's why I'll say it once more, racist white people go away. ”
Tumblr media
The famous actor is with the activists!
Stating that if any racist comment comes to their share, Boyega stated that they will block the comments individually, “This is not about career, money. All these things were my dream. It was part of the job. This has nothing to do with how you treat people. You can't annoy me, I'm not someone to be annoyed. "I was not raised by weak people," he said. John Boyega, who said that his mother called him “Good Boy” because of the statements he used, was also exposed to many racist comments when he got the role in Star Wars.
Tumblr media
The famous actor is involved in the action against racism. The persecution of black people, especially, is waiting for support from the movie actress, who advocates that it should end. Actions in the USA are growing every day.

LIAD TELLA: THE MAN THE CAP FITS
Tumblr media
By Ustadh Adam Adedimeji   Today, the 12th of October, 2019, all roads lead to Iwo, the Senatorial District Headquarters of Osun West in Osun State of Nigeria and birth place of Alhaji Liad Tella. This day, the retired Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, and former Federal Commissioner at the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), will be turbaned as the Asiwaju Musulumi of Iwo.   The selection of Tella for the religious title by the League of Imams and Alfas in Iwo in conjunction with the Paramount Ruler of the ancient town and Deputy Chairman of the Osun State Council of Chiefs and Traditional Rulers, Oba Abdurasheed Adewale Akanbi, is unequivocally without contention. This is because, as an Arab poet once described Tella’s ilk, he is so eminently qualified for the position just as the position is profoundly befitting to him.   That Tella is being honoured as Asiwaju Musulumi now is a belated recognition for someone who has been a vanguard of Islamic propagation and activism for the past five decades. As one of the pioneers of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) as well as a veteran representative Islam as well as Muslim icons and scholars such as Chief MKO Abiola and Sheikh Adam Abdullah Al-Ilory (May Allah repose their souls) in Islamic functions both at home and abroad, I will say that his recognition as a symbol of Islam is long overdue though it is better late than never.   My path first crossed with that of Tella within the premises of the famous Markaz Arabic Training Centre, an Arabic citadel established by the renowned legend and internationally recognised Islamic scholar, Sheikh Adam Al-Ilory, whom I later served as Private Secretary in Agege, sometime in 1987. I had arrived Agege from Iwo in December 1986 to further my Arabic and Islamic education at the Tawjihiyyah/ Thanawiyyah level after my Idaadiyyah and secondary education at Markaz Shabaab-il-Islam (Islamic Youths Center) and St. Mary’s Grammar School, Iwo respectively.   About three months after my arrival on a particular Friday, Tella came as usual to observe the Jumaat prayers at Markaz. He used to be in company of Alhaji Femi Abbas, the well- acclaimed columnist with The Nation newspapers and Chairman, Media Committee, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA). Alhaji Abbas is an alumnus of Markaz and former student of my father’s Arabic Centre, Markaz Shabaab-il-Islam, Iwo. Both Tella and Abbas were acquaintances to Sheikh Adam. The duo had been regular visitors to Baba and everyone in Markaz Agege as teachers or students recognised their position as two gentlemen in whom Baba was well pleased.   On this particular day, Tella was not in Markaz with Abbas but with one of his younger brothers, Alhaji Fatai Tella. Alhaji Fatai knew me very well in Iwo as one of his boys in the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Iwo Central Branch, which he headed as President. Unlike Liad, who was Lagos-based, Fatai knows everyone in my father’s household more so as we prayed in the same Masjid at Aroworeki’s Compound, a stone throw to Belewo’s Compound where he lived then.   It was Alh. Fatai who called me out when he saw me among my mates that hot afternoon after the prayers. Unknown to him, I had been nicknamed “Olooko" (the namesake) at Agege in deference to Baba Lagege who named me at birth after himself. Calling someone Adam is like a taboo within Markaz premises and so everyone looked at Alh. Fatai with scorn and bewilderment!   Alh. Fatai thereafter introduced me to Alh. Liad as the son of Baba ile Aroworeki, Sheikh Ahmad Adedimeji, the Otun Imam of Iwo and since then, I became one of Alh. Liad’s close protégés who usually visited him especially on weekends at his residence then at Alade Close, Jungle Bus stop in Iju Area of Lagos. Alh. Tella thus took me as son and I too adopted him as father and the relationship has been highly beneficial.   At Concord where Alh. Tella was then Group News Editor and later Deputy Editor Daily, his office became a meeting point not only for Concord Muslim staff but also all Iwo/old Oyo State young men and women who recognised him as mentor and role model that he was. Besides, his home at Alade Close, Iju, too was a rallying point for those of us who saw him as a benefactor of immeasurable value. Alhaji Kunmi Olayiwola was Alh. Tella’s neighbour at Alade then as his flat was directly opposite that of the Tella’s. Olayiwola was to later become Concord newspaper’s Abuja Beareu Chief and now into media consultancy and insurance marketing.   Those of us who usually thronged his office and residence then include Abdulfatai Oladehinde, Abdulwarees Solanke, Tunde Akanni, Mojeed Jamiu, Semiu Okanlawon, Bayo Adeyinka, Engineer Mudasiru Abisoye, Yinka Tella, Abdullahi Adam Al-Ilory, Rasak Bamidele, Qasim Akinreti and Kayode Awobadejo among others too numerous to mention.   I remember after my graduation from Markaz Agege and retention as both tutor and PRO for Markaz, I was fond of visiting him at home and office more regularly than before. It was during one of the visits that he introduced me to the Concord Managing Director, Dr. (Mrs) Hamidat Doyin Abiola, who was then looking for an Arabic and Islamic teacher for her daughter, Doyin Junior.   I started the lesson with Doyin but other Chief MKO Abiola’s children later joined, particularly children of Alhaja Bisi Abiola whose flat was then directly opposite Dr. Doyin’s. The children of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola (of blessed memory) also joined my class. If today I’m proud to say I was once a private tutor to many of MKO Abiola’s children, the credit should go to Alh. Liad Tella who facilitated my connection to that wonderful family.   I also remember that on many occasions, Chief Abiola would walk pass the corridor in the building of his palatial house off Toyin Street, Ikeja, where we usually had the lessons and ask me if his children were coping  well with their Arabic and Islamic lessons. In fact, there was a day he walked in with Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, who was his running mate in the ill-fated 1993 General Elections and after both of them exchanged pleasantries with me and the children, Babagana Kingibe dipped his hands into his pocket and gave me a substantial amount of money in appreciation of my work and care to his principal’s children.   It is also interesting that my part-time job as private tutor culminated in Dr. Doyin Abiola’s sponsorship of my first Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah, Saudi Arabia) in 1993, the same year I got admitted into Bayero University, Kano (BUK) to study Common and Islamic Law. It was such a wonderful trip with Alh. Tella as Chairman, Osun State Pilgrims Welfare Board that year. Other pilgrims became envious of us close to him, the Chairman’s boys.   One of the peculiarities of Alh. Liad Tella is that he is a pioneer and pathfinder of a rare breed in Iwo. He started something that is very uncommon among the Yoruba by adopting the name of his compound/ neighbourhood as his surname. Many people will not dispute the fact that the practice is uncommon among the Yoruba and Southerners generally unlike the Hausa who culturally adopt the names of their villages and towns as surnames. Though examples are legion, names like Hassan Usman Katsina, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Abubakar Rimi, Maman Kotangora, Sani Kamba, Muhammadu Gambo Jimeta among Northerners are illustrative. By adopting Tella, the name of his compound in Iwo, Alh. Liad succeeded in publicizing Tella compound and setting precedence in the annals of Iwo.   Meanwhile, other prominent Iwo sons and daughters have since taken after him, such as Professor Lai Olurode from Olurode’s Compound. Olurode was the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Lagos and former Federal Commissioner in charge of Training and Education, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under Professor Attahiru Jega’s headship of INEC. Others who adopted the practice include Honourable Gafar Akintayo Amere from Amere’s Compound, immediate past member of the Federal House of Representatives who represented Iwo/ Ayedire/ Ola Oluwa Federal Constituency in the 8th Assembly as well as my present principal, who I was introduced to by no one other than Alh. Liad Tella, Distinguished Senator Adelere Oriolowo from Oriolowo’s Compound, the Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District in the 9th Senate.   Alh. Tella has lived a fulfilling life of service to Allah, to community and to humanity at large. He is a magnetic personality and devout Muslim whose lifestyle shall continue to inspire generations of Muslim professionals for many years to come. He has been a Muslim leader and now that he is formally proclaimed as such by the Iwo community under the Oluwo, I wish the man the cap perfectly fits many years of dedicated service to Islam, Iwo and humanity.     #Adam Adedimeji, immediate past General Secretary, NBA’s Lawyers in the Media Forum is a former Editorial Board member of Daily Independent newspapers. He works with National Assembly Service Commission as Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) to Senator Adelere Adeyemi Oriolowo   Read the full article

My Leadership Will Work For Nigerians If Elected As Senate President Says Lawan
Tumblr media
My Leadership Will Work For Nigerians If Elected As Senate President Says Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan Nigerian Senate Leader, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan,  has said if he is elected Senate President, in the Ninth Session of the National Assembly, he would work for Nigerians; irrespective of political or sectional considerations. Senator Lawan declared his interest in the senate presidency to media editors in Lagos, yesterday, and added that despite his ambition, he would recognise the supremacy of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the zoning of leadership positions in the National Assembly. At the session, Lawan, who was in company with some of his colleagues, including senators Oluremi Tinubu, his predecessor, Teslim Folarin, Sabi Abdullahi, Opeyemi Bamidele, Ifeanyi Ubah, among others,  declared he is an apostle of separation of powers, who who also believes in consultation, synergy and cooperation with the Executive arm of the government; to achieve positive results for the country. “That does not mean that we will not disagree. But, when we disagree, we should not go to the village or market square to settle our differences. “That is the way to go; to enable Nigerians benefit from democracy. “I believe in progressive politics; I believe in ensuring that the ordinary people–the masses of Nigeria require every person’s support for opportunities to actualize their potentials and dreams. “But, I also believe that we should do everything possible to encourage and support entrepreneurship, and businesses to grow so that jobs will be created for our teeming population. Lawan said by June, he would have spent 20 years in the National Assembly, as a member of the House of Representatives, for eight years, and a senator for 12 years, in APP, ANPP and APC. “This is the first time I have been in a party running the (central) government. “I was in the All Nigeria People’s Party throughout till we came to power. “I am a believer in the separation of powers but, it is not an infinite elasticity. “I will respect the party supremacy and I will respect the wishes of my party if it decides to zone the senate president position to another zone that is not my own.” Meanwhile, the Sustainable Democracy Agenda (SUDA) has called on senators-elect, regardless of political parties, to queue behind Lawan in his bid. In a statement by SUDA convener, Ibrahim Haruna Usman, in Abuja, yesterday, he said Lawan, who represents Yobe North, is experienced and would be a uniting factor for the Ninth Senate. The group also urged Lawan “to reach out to all his colleagues, including those aspiring for the same position because “national interest must be above all other considerations… Our position is in line with the Senate rule because senator Lawan is presently the most experienced of all the senators elected in APC…” Read the full article
