Wildlife Photographer Wakes Up From A Nap Under A Tree With… A Sleeping Cheetah Against Him
Tumblr media
Imagine dozing off under the shade of a tree after a taxing day out in the sun, only to wake up to the gentle nudge of a wild cheetah snuggling against you. This isn’t the start of a fable or a campfire story. It’s what happened to Dolph Volker, a wildlife photographer and animal enthusiast, during one of his volunteering stints at Cheetah Experience, a sanctuary for endangered species in South Africa.
Tumblr media
The memorable encounter took place on a particularly sunny day, when all Dolph wanted was a brief escape from the relentless sun. He found solace under a tree, not knowing that he would soon share his makeshift bed with a curious cheetah named Eden. As he slept, Eden approached him, likely intrigued by his presence, and decided to settle next to him for a nap. The slight nudges from Eden eventually woke Dolph, who was stunned but delighted by the trust and affection shown by this majestic creature.
With his camera by his side, Dolph didn’t miss the opportunity to document this extraordinary event. The photos and videos he captured show Eden displaying an unexpected gentleness, nuzzling against him, playfully biting, and even licking him. These tender interactions have not only strengthened his bond with the cheetahs he works to protect but have also made him a beacon of hope for animal conservationists worldwide.

5 fun ways to celebrate workers' day in Nigeria
Tumblr media
This public holiday is a dedicated time to honour the contributions of hardworking people across the country. It's a day to recognise the value of labour and the dedication of those who keep the wheels of the nation turning.
But Workers' Day isn't just about acknowledging hard work; it's also about celebrating it. After a year of dedication and perseverance, Nigerian workers deserve a day of rest, relaxation, and enjoyment. So, put down your work tools, silence those ringing phones, and get ready to celebrate.
Here are five exciting ways Nigerian workers can make the most of their Workers' Day holiday.
1. Escape the city for a nature retreat
Tumblr media
Nigeria has stunning natural scenery, from the lush rainforests of the south to the breathtaking mountains of the north. Workers' Day is the perfect opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnect with nature.
Consider a day trip to a nearby national park, like Yankari Game Reserve, Cross River National Park or Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC). Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the natural world, go for a hike, or simply relax by a scenic lake.
2. Unwind with a staycation
Tumblr media
Sometimes, the best way to recharge is with a relaxing staycation. Treat yourself to a luxurious hotel stay in your own city. Pamper yourself with spa treatments, enjoy delicious meals you don't have to cook and take advantage of hotel amenities like swimming pools and fitness centres. It's a chance to unwind, de-stress, and recharge without the hassle of travelling far.
3. Organise a Workers' Day picnic with colleagues
Tumblr media
Workers' Day is a celebration of your fellow workers too. Gather your colleagues, friends, and family for a fun-filled picnic in the park. Pack delicious local delicacies, some refreshing drinks, and some games or activities to keep everyone entertained. This is a fantastic opportunity to bond with your work crew outside the office environment and create lasting memories.
4. Explore Nigeria’s rich culture
Tumblr media
Dedicate your Workers' Day to exploring the rich heritage of your own city or venture to a new location. Visit historical landmarks, museums, or cultural centres. Immerse yourself in local art, music, and dance.
5. Catch up with loved ones
Tumblr media
The daily grind can sometimes leave us neglecting the people who matter most. Workers' Day is the perfect chance to reconnect with loved ones. Plan a visit with family members you haven't seen in a while, organise a game night with friends, or simply enjoy a relaxing meal together. Cherish the moments with the people who bring joy and support to your life.

Top 10 banks with lowest lending rates for Nigerian manufacturers
Tumblr media
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), under Yemi Cardoso, has increased the monetary policy rate (MPR) by 600 basis points so far, from 18.75% to 24.75% to combat inflation and foster economic stability.
Each bank offers different lending rates that reflect their respective approaches to lending to the manufacturing industry.
The prime rate indicates the best possible rate offered to the most creditworthy customers, while the maximum rate suggests the upper limit of interest rates for loans provided to the sector, which might apply to higher-risk scenarios or different loan structures.
As Nigerian manufacturers navigate a landscape of escalating interest rates, there is a silver lining for those in need of funding.
In a time when interest rates are a critical factor for business sustainability, Nigerian manufacturing firms can find solace in some financial institutions that are offering lower prime lending rates.
Below are the top 10 banks that are standing out by providing the most competitive and lowest rates to the manufacturing sector as of April 12, 2024:
10. Access Bank
Starting off our top 10, Access Bank offers a prime lending rate of 22.00%. Though on the higher side, it remains a competitive player in the industry. Borrowers should be aware of the maximum rate of 28.50%, which is worth considering in their financial planning.
9. Guaranty Trust Bank
Like Access Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank provides a prime rate of 22.00%. The maximum rate at Guaranty Trust Bank is slightly better at 22.50%, making it a viable option for firms looking for more stability in their interest expenses.
8. Globus Bank Ltd
Coming in eighth, Globus Bank Ltd’s prime lending rate stands at 18.33%. Its maximum rate goes up to 29.00%, which manufacturing firms will need to account for when considering their loan options.
7. Citi Bank
Citi Bank features a prime rate of 18.00%, taking the seventh position. However, the maximum lending rate extends to 29.00%. While the starting rate is advantageous, the potential for a higher cap should be kept in mind.
6. Unity Bank
Unity Bank also offers a prime rate of 18.00%, on par with Citi Bank. They are at the sixth spot, with a maximum lending rate of 30.50%, which is on the higher end and should be taken into consideration by manufacturing firms.
5. Greenwich Merchant Bank
Greenwich Merchant Bank is at the fifth position with a prime rate of 18.00%. Its maximum rate of 25.00% offers a less volatile range compared to other banks, which might be suitable for manufacturers looking for moderate terms.
4. Titan Trust Bank
Titan Trust Bank has a prime lending rate of 18.00%, putting it in fourth place. Notably, it offers a stable maximum rate that is the same as its prime, at 18.00%, offering predictability for firms that prioritize consistent lending costs.
3. Nova Merchant Bank
Securing the third spot, Nova Merchant Bank has an appealing prime rate of 12.00%. It also has one of the lower maximum rates at 20.00%, making it an attractive choice for manufacturing firms looking for favorable borrowing terms.
2. FSDH
FSDH is second with a prime rate of 9.00%, tied for the lowest on the list. Manufacturers should be vigilant, though, as the maximum rate at FSDH can soar to 38.00%, the highest maximum on our list.
1. Coronation Bank
At the top, Coronation Bank offers the joint-lowest prime rate of 9.00%. This prime rate is the most competitive for manufacturers, although the maximum rate can reach up to 30.00%, which must be factored into any long-term financial considerations.

EXPLAINER: What to know about the amended Student Loan Act signed by Tinubu
Tumblr media
President Bola Tinubu, last week, signed into law the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2024.
The Act is of historic proportions as it seeks to guarantee sustainable higher education and functional skill development for all Nigerian students and youths.
In this article, TRIBUNE ONLINE explains in details the amended Student Loan Act signed by Tinubu.
Why the previous act was amended
The repealed Student Loan Act, 2023, had some challenges bordering on governance and management, purpose of the loans, eligibility criteria for applicants, method of application, repayment provisions, and recovery of the loans.
What the amended act entails
The newly amended act signed into law by Tinubu sufficiently resolved the challenges highlighted above and includes the following amendments:
(a) Establishes the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a body corporate that can sue and be sued in its name and has the power to acquire, hold, and dispose of movable and immovable property for the purpose of its functions.
– This ensures that the Fund can legally enter contracts, including loan agreements, and may also initiate action to ensure repayment by beneficiaries.
(b) Empowers the Fund to provide loans to qualified Nigerians for tuition, fees, charges, and upkeep during their studies in approved tertiary academic institutions and vocational and skills acquisition institutions in Nigeria.
– Build, operate, and maintain a diversified pool of funds to provide loans to qualified applicants and ensure access to higher education, vocational training, and skills acquisition.
– These amendments ensure that students can apply for and receive loans to cover tuition, institutional charges, and some upkeep.
(c) Separates the governance functions from the management operations of NELFUND by establishing a board of directors with a chairman and a secretary.
– The board’s members are drawn from relevant ministries, regulatory bodies, and participating agencies, including the Federal Ministries of Finance and Education, the FIRS, NIMC, NUC, NBTE, and NCCE, as well as representatives of universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, students of tertiary institutions, and the organized private sector.
– Establishes a management team led by a managing director, including executive directors responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the Fund.
– The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria appoints the Board and Management.
(d) Properly defines the resource structure of the Fund by, among other things, establishing the General Reserve Fund into which shall be paid 1 percent of all taxes, levies, and duties collected by the Federal Inland Revenue Service and accruing to the benefit of the Federal Government, and
– From which the Fund shall pay amounts payable as loans to qualified applicants for tuition, fees, charges, and upkeep, as well as the Fund’s operational expenses and such expenditures necessary to attain the Fund’s objectives and functions.
(e) Changes to eligibility criteria for applicants
– Removes the family income threshold so Nigerian students can apply for these loans and accept responsibility for repayment according to the Fund’s guidelines.
– Removes the guarantor requirement so that students can apply for and receive loans subject to application and identity verification guidelines as provided by the Fund.
– Student applicants can no longer be disqualified based on their parent’s loan history.
(f) Establishes a justice and fairness provision mandating the Board to ensure a minimum national spread of loans approved and disbursed in each financial year.
(g) Applicants to the Fund may apply for loans to cover tuition and other fees payable to the school and maintenance allowance payable to the student.
(h) Repayment of loans by beneficiaries
– The Fund shall not initiate loan recovery efforts until two years after the completion of the National Youth Service Programme.
– A beneficiary may request an extension of enforcement action by the Fund by providing a sworn affidavit indicating that he/she is not employed in any capacity and is not receiving any income.
– Only a person who provides a false statement to the Fund under this section is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for three years.
– Makes provision for loan forgiveness in the event of death or acts of God causing inability to repay.
The Act effectively removes the previous encumbrances found in the first iteration of the Act, and paves the path for the protection of Nigeria’s future by ensuring that citizens have the means to fund their education, acquire critical skills, and become productive contributors to national development.

5 reasons most airplanes are painted white
Perhaps you have wondered why airplanes are predominantly white. It’s not just a coincidence. This seemingly simple design choice turns out to be a practical decision with several benefits for airlines.
Here are five reasons why most airplanes take to the skies clad in white:
Reasons for airplanes painted white
Heat Regulation
Airplanes endure extreme temperature variations during flight, from the freezing cold of high altitudes to the scorching heat of ground operations. White paint excels at reflecting sunlight, thus minimizing heat absorption and reducing the strain on the aircraft’s structure and systems. This reflective property helps in maintaining a comfortable cabin temperature for passengers and protects sensitive equipment from overheating, ultimately enhancing safety and efficiency.
Weight Savings
Every extra pound on an aircraft translates to increased fuel consumption and operational costs. White paint, being lighter compared to other colors, contributes to weight savings, albeit marginally. However, when multiplied across entire fleets and thousands of flights, this seemingly minor difference can result in substantial fuel savings and reduced environmental impact over time, making it an economically and ecologically sound choice for airlines.
Visibility and Safety
In the vastness of the sky, visibility is paramount for flight safety, both in the air and on the ground. White planes offer superior visibility against various backdrops, including clouds, blue sky, or urban landscapes, making them easier to spot from a distance. This enhanced visibility aids air traffic controllers, pilots, and ground crew in maintaining safe distances, guiding takeoffs and landings, and conducting efficient ground operations, thus reducing the risk of accidents and improving overall aviation safety.
Maintenance and Repair
White paint simplifies maintenance and repair tasks for aircraft operators. Unlike darker colors, which tend to fade and require frequent touch-ups to maintain their appearance, white paint is more forgiving and conceals minor blemishes and imperfections. Additionally, white surfaces facilitate inspections for cracks, corrosion, or other structural issues, as defects are more visible against the contrasting background. This ease of maintenance translates to reduced downtime and lower maintenance costs for airlines, ensuring smoother operations and better reliability.
Branding and Resale Value
While the practical benefits of white paint are undeniable, there’s also a strategic aspect to its prevalence in aviation – branding and resale value. White serves as a neutral canvas that allows airlines to apply their logos, colors, and branding elements prominently, ensuring brand visibility and recognition worldwide. Moreover, white planes are more attractive to potential buyers in the secondary market, as they offer greater flexibility for rebranding and customization, thus retaining their resale value better than planes with complex or outdated paint schemes.

3. Prepare Gifts
The gifts you intend to give away depend on what you want. What you feel would resonate with people in this period. You don’t have to go extreme, but of course if you can afford to go any length; why not? A card gift is not bad, a bracelet, perfume, wristwatch, flowers, Christian books and the Holy Bible are things you can give someone. It is a way of celebrating one another through the love of Jesus Christ and the significance of Easter Sunday.
4. Hang out
Easter Sunday should be a day of joy and refreshing to your soul. Loosen up and have fun with your family and friends. Visit places; it could be a mall, eatery, cinema or game centre. Celebrate and bid a forever bye to your worries.
5. Preach
You might not be an evangelist; it is okay. You can as well preach to others telling them how Jesus Christ died and resurrected for their sake. How they should imbibe His teachings and allow Him into their lives. You can compile all these into a simple text and send it to your contacts.

The Rise Of Casinos: From the Streets of Venice to Online Giants
Tumblr media
Casinos are an aspect of human culture by now. They have become a popular form of entertainment for many people, offering a variety of games and experiences. Many lives were made and lost at a casino table. As the industry continues to evolve with advancements in technology and changing consumer preferences, ever-growing in the online world. Nowadays, you can even find a great provider who offers sportsbooks, betting exchanges, and casinos in a single account. But where did it all start?
The History
The precise origin of gambling is unknown, but it has been present in various societies throughout history, including Ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, the Romans, Napoleon’s France, and Elizabethan England. The first known European gambling house was the Ridotto in Venice, established in 1638 by the Great Council of Venice. The establishment was closed in 1774 due to perceived impoverishment.
In American history, early gambling establishments were known as saloons, influenced by major cities like New Orleans, St. Louis, Chicago, and San Francisco. Gambling was outlawed in the early 20th century, but in 1931, Nevada legalized gambling, leading to the establishment of the first legalized casinos. In 1976, New Jersey allowed gambling in Atlantic City, becoming the US’s second-largest gambling city.
The Design
Design is an important part of a casino. It plays a crucial role in creating an atmosphere that is inviting and exciting for guests. A well-designed casino can enhance the overall experience and keep customers coming back for more. But there is a somber side to it as well.
Gambling tendencies are influenced by factors such as sound, odor, and lighting. Anthropologist Natasha Dow Schüll highlights Silicon Gaming’s decision to create slot machines with a universally pleasant tone. While Alan Hirsch, founder of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, discovered a pleasant odor released by Las Vegas slot machines that generated 50% more daily revenue to the casinos, suggesting it acted as something similar to an aphrodisiac, leading to a more aggressive form of gambling.
A History of Crime
Casinos have been linked to organized crime, with early casinos in Las Vegas and Macau dominated by the American Mafia and Triad syndicates. In fact, studies have showed that crime incidence at a local level often doubles or triples within three years of a casino’s opening.
A 2004 US Department of Justice report found that the percentage of problem gamblers among arrested individuals was three to five times higher than in the general population. Economic studies showing a positive relationship between casinos and crime often fail to consider the visiting population, overstating the crime rate. This methodology is used due to the lack of reliable data on tourist count.
The Rise of Online Casinos
The online gambling industry began with the launch of “The Gaming Club” in 1994, powered by Microgaming, and the first online poker room, “Planet Poker,” in 1996. The early years were marked by controversy due to unregulated practices, leading to issues like lack of fair play and money laundering. In the late 1990s, Antigua and Barbuda passed the first online gambling legislation, allowing for casino licensing and paving the way for industry growth.
The industry continued to grow in the early 2000s, with more countries passing legislation to regulate and legalize it. However, the US faced setbacks with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in 2006, making it illegal for banks to process transactions for online gambling sites. By the 2010s, the industry had become a multibillion-dollar industry.
Nowadays, online casinos are a staple of every bettors life. The convenience and accessibility of online gambling have made it a popular form of entertainment for people around the world. And if you are looking for a nice new casino option for your portfolio, we recommend checking out Game2Bet. There you will find great online casino options, along with traditional sportsbook offers.
