Thorin had cupped his chin between his forefinger and thumb, and tilted it up. Bilbo’s heart was immediately in this throat, his breath catching as Thorin stepped closer, his own head lowered ever so slightly down towards him.
“Is that clear?” Thorin repeated himself, though more quietly now as his eyes seemed to be searching Bilbo’s face for something, roving over every detail as though mapping out something truly intriguing.
Bilbo found he couldn’t speak, their position far too reminiscent of the last few breaths before a kiss, and Thorin’s intense gaze stealing every word he ever knew from his memory.
I haven't been reading fic lately, so I might forget a lot of them, but:
my talented friend McManatea didn't write often but every time I think of a "complicated old uncle love" fic that makes my heart twinge I think of hers: Come To My Own Hearthstone
my talented friend Yubi wrote this saga of a fic, and I always talk about it with my friends because I think it's so logical, so fucking cool, and makes me emotional: Azhâr
my talented friend Kitty wrote so many fun AUs, and my favorite series was the Satyr one, obviously: In which the Dwarves are Satyrs, because Reasons but I often also think about the lesbian Selkie one! It's so unique: The Selkie
my talented friend mithrilbikini wrote so many cool rarer pair fics, I know it's not bagginshield, but I often remember this one with Bilbo/Nori: Unexpected (but Not Unwelcome) and also check out her other posts on AO3, they're centered on her professional illustrations. All bangers.
the talented HildyJ first had control of my brain with their amazing Oak and Mistletoe, but I remember reeling with every new setting and fic, and I'm sure you'll find yourself a treasure trove in their bagginshield works!
the talented Margo_Kim still has my ass on lock with their beautiful Homesick, I always remember waiting for the next chapters and the absolute joy the ending was.
the talented Northerntrash always had such an absolute hold on mythology fic, but it's absurd how their modern AUs or canon timing AUs would also kill your ass: For This, Of Seasons
I really need to go back in and read some more! Do you guys have some good recs? :D
Some fandoms are really weird and anti-oc and it's incredibly obvious! Just a little poke is all. :P I was inspired to put these together after I got rejected by an artist who ships Bagginshield but refused to draw Bofuranna.
I've had the key for about 2 months now and I just got the acorn bell at an Oddities expo ✨ Saw the acorn and realized what I could do since I have the key already so I bought it 😂 Maybe if Bilbo had a bell Thorin would be able to stop him from sneaking off and getting into trouble 😂
In The Lord of the Rings, Bilbo is so grumpy because he decided that love is too painful and he would never love anyone again in his life, but still he tries to love his nephew Frodo

Summary:
No words are spoken, but Thorin draws a rattling breath and steels himself. After everything he has done to Bilbo, he at least owes him more than this.
“What happened?” Bilbo says, before Thorin gets there. “Did we make it to the mountain, did we find the door? The last thing I remember is Lake Town—I’m assuming the attempt to steal a bunch of weapons did not go well, then?”
The words take a moment to sink in. When they do, Thorin finally understands what people mean when they say that the floor dropped out from right beneath their feet.
---
Up on Ravenhill, Bilbo wakes a little earlier. It allows him to save Thorin's life, and almost—almost—costs him his own; which, as far as Bilbo is concerned, is a worthy exchange, no matter Thorin's own thoughts on the matter.
If only the aftermath, and all that still stands between them, would be so clean-cut and easy to resolve.
Enjoy this snippet of my new fic, The Burden Of Choice, coming out in just two days on April 25th!

“Flower crowns are a little like braiding but more like weaving. You want them to be sturdy enough that they won’t fall apart with a little light play but not so hard you strangle the stems.”
They sat in compatible silence apart from Bilbo’s instruction. Both of them were concentrating on their tasks. Thorin failed several times to get the flowers to hold their shape. After several failed attempts and dozens of snapped and discarded flowers, Thorin finally had a functioning flower crown. He placed it on the bed next to Bilbo’s and tried not to cringe at how juvenile his attempt looked in comparison.
“Nimble hobbit hands are better suited to this craft than rough dwarven ones.” Thorin sighed.
“Oh, I don't know about that. The only advantage I have is decades of practice.” Bilbo set aside his crown and picked up Thorin’s, nestling it securely on his head with a smile. “It even fits me!”
“You don’t have to wear that.” He knew that Bilbo probably thought the work was shoddy, and he hated the idea of him walking around with something so ill-made. Thorin reached for the crown, intent on swapping it with the beautiful one Bilbo had made, but before his hand could grab anything, Bilbo laced his fingers through his, stopping his progress.
“I want to wear it because you made it.” Bilbo used his hand as an anchor to lean forward seductively. “because you made it for me. Rough dwarven hands and all, and I’ll have you know I’m growing very fond of how rough those hands can be.”
so, I've read quite a bit of bagginshield fanfiction, because of course I have, and I've noticed that Bilbo is not as sassy in fic??
Like, is it just me or was Bilbo like, sarcastic and had an attitude in the moveis?? The best example I can I remember off the top of my head of this is when Bilbo tells Gandalf he saw Thorin and co. On Ravenhill and said he had to get to them, and Gandalf said he couldn't make it, and he said "uh, yeah I can." I loved it, honestly, but in fic writers tend to make him softer and shyer? This isn't a problem but I would love to see more sassy Bilbo!
