You lie on the bed feeling the cotton pillowcase under your cheek. Your silver locks thinned from the decades tumble around you and you feel his fingers softly push them from your gaze. You always knew when he became her chosen again that life for you both would become different, his abilities, his ageing. Elminster was a few centuries old, and Gale would go on to have the same experience; you however would not have that luxury. And yet you do not mind, you have lived a life filled with the most wonderful of moments, you have loved more than any other mortal could and though it is your time you are not scared.
You gaze up at him seeing the blurred visage and yet you know his face so well, the uncontrollable waves of his hair, the bristles of his neatly trimmed beard, the deep souls of those brown eyes that you had poured yourself into night after night. You feel the touch of delicate kisses upon your forehead and hear the whispers of his voice; a sweet melody as beautiful as the first day when he introduced himself. You remember all the moments so well, touching the weave, his out-of-nowhere flirtatious banter, those nights under the stars. He speaks of so many of them and you hear the weak wavering of his voice as he quietly talks of your wedding day.
You find yourself there, walking down the aisle, hearing the dulcet tones of the music and the whispers of your friends and family. You walk past their smiling faces but your eyes are drawn only to one person, that of your beloved. He stands there waiting for you, as handsome as always, his suit embroidered and his hair neatly tied back. You face him, feeling nervous as all eyes are on you, but as you hear his voice you know that everything will be okay; You are safe because he is with you. You exchange your vows; the promises of your love and devotion to one another, to always be together, your souls bound to one another for all eternity, and he lifts your veil, allowing you to share in one last gentle kiss. The last kiss before you start your new life.
You do not hear what happens next as you shuffle off this mortal coil, as you feel the peace that overtakes your mind and body, instead, you leave with the knowledge that no matter what, you will always be with him from those starry skies.
Watching over him from the cradle of eternity. Bound by the timelessness of lovers. Waiting again for that most beautiful of fantasies.
