Well, I just saw Everything Everywhere All at Once for the very first time, and that movie is by far the best my only-typically-plays-video-games-and-listens-to-YouTube-videos-because-they-can-be-done-at-the-same-time ass has ever seen!
I first heard of it while I was in Japan, as its trailer played before the film when I went to go see すずめの戸締まり (Suzume no Tojimari) back in November of 2022. The trailer's absurd visuals intrigued me at the time, but I thought little else of it then.
I later heard about the film again, this time in slightly more detail, from the YouTube video Art, Furries, God by Patricia Taxxon. I was fascinated by the video's thesis about how the absurd, played straight, can truly touch the soul. This video uses Everything Everywhere All at Once as one example to demonstrate that thesis, and its creator cites the film as the inspiration that led them to create the video in the first place.
Finally, on Sunday my parents discovered the film after it won several Oscars, and despite it not being their shtick, they were interested simply due to how many awards it had won. I too was interested for the aforementioned reasons.
So, tonight we watched the film, and jeez, was it SO GOOD! I cried thrice throughout it, and I don't think I've ever cried while watching a movie like that! I absolutely recommend watching the film and maybe after checking out that YouTube video for the additional impact!
