I will never get over the part in The Seven of Hearts when I realized that Lupin solved a full on mystery just so he could swindle a rich guy out of 20,000 francs, blackmail a murderer so he could keep it all, and not sell out rich guys wife for writing scandalous letters to the murder victim.
Absolute mad lad

Title: Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar (1907) Author: Maurice Leblanc Vote: 7.5/10
First collection of the multiple adventures of the gentleman thief. An irreverent, disrespectful criminal, always ready for the challenge and when he wants also without mercy. In every story he always gets what he wants and even when he is arrested in the end he manages to escape with almost magical qualities. The character is exceptional but the stories he lives are no different and are always unlikely and interesting. The police, in the person of Inspector Ganimard, tries in vain to capture him and the side never misses an opportunity to make fun of them. One thing I didn't know before reading the book is the huge number of nameless associates the side surrounds itself with who help him and follow his every order like so many puppets.

Certainly, there was no danger. No one in the world could force an entrance to the sanctuary that contained his priceless treasures. No one, perhaps, but Arsène Lupin! For him, gates, walls and drawbridges did not exist. What use were the most formidable obstacles or the most careful precautions, if Arsène Lupin had decided to effect an entrance?

What is lupin about? I’ll try to watch it but I have a really hard time starting new shows and things like that especially if something I really love is being updated regularly but I really want to try to just so I can talk to you about it !!!
First of all you are so sweet?!?!?
Secondly, the show is about a man named Assane Diop who is a huge fan/devotee of a French classic series from 1905 about a "Gentleman Burglar" named Arsène Lupin. The story first storyline is him trying to get revenge from a man who framed his father of stealing. The story is full of twists and you really have to analyse what is happening if you want to know in beforehand. It's very cleverly written and always leaves you wanting more. Personally my family and I watched season 1 in almost once sitting (of course you don't have to, you can take it slow as well. I just have a very curious family)

Does Leblanc Lupin ever call himself anything similar to pillager of twilight or is that something completely unique to P5 Arsène? I haven’t seen anything but there might be something similar in a story I haven’t read. The only self given title that I remember is when he called himself the emissary of fate. Really like that one. Pretty cool title.
As far as I'm aware, no he has not. I don't think Lupin has any titles that have been used with any frequency in canon other than "gentleman-cambrioleur," or "gentleman burglar"/"gentleman thief," when referred to by other people and by himself multiple times.
He's also been called "prince des cambrioleurs"/"prince of burglars" and "le bandit-roi"/"burglar king" once in 813.

Or, I guess a better question is... do we know which movies still survive to this day?

SHandALiCB Weekly Dev Update #7
I got stuff to do tomorrow, so early weekly post.
Tumblr media
Created the game’s title! I made the font for The Copycat Burglar part, it’s based on the one used on the 1907 cover of Arsène Lupin, gentleman-cambrioleur (Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar) with some added wear and substitutes for the letters I didn’t have.

“Such was the story of his arrest as narrated to me by Arsène Lupin himself. The various incidents, which I shall record in writing at a later day, have established between us certain ties.... shall I say of friendship? Yes, I venture to believe that Arsène Lupin honors me with his friendship, and that it is through friendship that he occasionally calls on me, and brings, into the silence of my library, his youthful exuberance of spirits, the contagion of his enthusiasm, and the mirth of a man for whom destiny has naught but favors and smiles.
His portrait? How can I describe him? I have seen him twenty times and each time he was a different person; even he himself said to me on one occasion: “I no longer know who I am. I cannot recognize myself in the mirror.” Certainly, he was a great actor, and possessed a marvelous faculty for disguising himself. Without the slightest effort, he could adopt the voice, gestures and mannerisms of another person.
“Why,” said he, “why should I retain a definite form and feature? Why not avoid the danger of a personality that is ever the same? My actions will serve to identify me.”
Then he added, with a touch of pride:
“So much the better if no one can ever say with absolute certainty: There is Arsène Lupin! The essential point is that the public may be able to refer to my work and say, without fear of mistake: Arsène Lupin did that!”

Im curious about whether the books really go into detail on Ganimard’s past. I’m writing a fic and I wanna make sure I get this right lol.
// Hmm as far as I can remember, I don't think there's any stories that go into detail about Ganimard's past... In fact, his first name was only ever mentioned once in Versus Sholmes.
A collection of Ganimard facts that I do remember:
A description of how he looks from the very first story.
Tumblr media
Extraordinary Adventures of Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar, Ch 1 "The Arrest of Arsène Lupin"
He has a wife of unknown first name.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arsène Lupin versus Herlock Sholmes, Ch 1 "Lottery Ticket No. 514" and Ch 6 "The Second Arrest of Arsène Lupin"
The singular mention of his full name.
Tumblr media
Arsène Lupin versus Herlock Sholmes, Ch 2 "The Blue Diamond"
He has a housekeeper which Lupin calls "old Catherine"
Tumblr media
Confessions of Arsène Lupin, "The Red Silk Scarf"
We were told that Théodore Béchoux was Ganimard's protégé.

You have successfully piqued my interest and now, considering that I've been meaning to read more anyway, I must now:
Where should I start with the LeBlanc novels, on your opinion?
(Your art is adorable and wonderful btw!)
FDSHFGHDFGJ HI THANK U 💖💖💖
Finally...my obsession with a 100 year old series is useful..
Honestly, the best place to start reading the series is the first book, Extraordinary Adventures of Arsène Lupin! It's also called Exploits of Arsène Lupin and Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar.
You can find the books for free in a bunch of places, but the ones I've been using are from standardebooks.org! It has the novels 1-12(Excluding novel 8 because apparently Lupin isn't even in it???). Now, there IS a loose continuity between books that starts after the 2nd novel, but so far it's nothing too serious that if you were to skip to the 3rd book you'd be super confused, it's mainly small references to other books(Sorta like the Lupin anime). I can't say if it stays this way though.
I miiight make a separate post about content warnings, but for now know there IS violence in these novels, and it sorta ramps up in the 3rd, and especially the 4th book.
I can't say much about the books past these 4 yet, but I'll definitely keep posting on my Tumblr about them as I read!
Hope you enjoy them! 🎩💎💖
Trigger warnings + vague spoilers for 3rd/4th books below!
There IS more violence in the 3rd book, but I'll give a content warning for violence to the 4th book as it gets far worse/more frequent there. And I feel a trigger warning for suicide ideation and attempt should also be mentioned for the 4th book as well.

Dead By Daylight: Arsène Lupin
Tumblr media
Sleight of Hand
Your sticky fingers have lured a great deal of trouble to you over the years, but they have also proved valuable in times of opportunity.
Strengthens potential in the team’s Aura-reading abilities.
When picked up or being carried by the Killer, succeed a Skill Check to immediately escape their grasp if your Wriggle Metre has been filled up to 40/30/20%. Succeed a Great Skill Check to stun the Killer for 3/4/5 seconds.
Upon successfully stunning the Killer, you can mark the Killer upon escaping their grasp. The Killer’s Aura is revealed in red to all Survivors who are still alive for 5/10/15 seconds.
When facing off against The Cannibal, your odds of dropping any Items you’re carrying are lowered by 60/40/20%. Any Items you drop loses its Charge by 30/20/10% if not picked up again within 90/60/30 seconds.
“Come now, we needn’t debase ourselves. There is always a way around their ilk.” — Arsène Lupin
Ascertain
Your keen eyes notice what many oft overlook, making less noise while doing so.
You start the Trial with 3 Tokens:
When a Chest has already been opened, consume 1 Token to search it for an Item.
For every Token you consume, your search action with Chests is done 60/40/20% more slowly, but your risk of attracting the Killer’s attention is drastically decreased if the search is done while within the Killer’s Terror Radius.
If searching a Chest is done while you are not the Obsession, you gain a 10% boost in searching Chests.
Upon consuming the third Token, your chance of gaining an additional item is increased by 10/20/30%.
You can only use Ascertain once per Chest.
Arsène Lupin, the eccentric gentleman who operates only in the chateaux and salons, and who, one night, entered the residence of Baron Schormann, but emerged empty-handed, leaving, however, his card on which he had scribbled these words: “Arsène Lupin, gentleman-burglar, will return when the furniture is genuine.” — Maurice Leblanc, Arsène Lupin – Gentleman Thief
Boon: Obfuscate
You are no stranger to landing yourself in dire straits. Nor are you a stranger to getting yourself, and your associates, out of them.
Press and hold the Active ability button on a Dull or Hex Totem to bless it and create a Boon Totem.
Soft chimes ring out in a radius of 24 metres.
All Survivors benefit from the following effects when inside the Boon Totem’s radius:
Scratch Marks are suppressed.
Auras are hidden from the Killer.
4% Haste Status Effect for the next 10/15/20 seconds. This effect is stack-able along with other abilities that increase movement, and ignores an existing Exhaustion timer if any Survivor(s) are suffering from the Exhausted Status Effect.
The above effects linger for the next 3/6/9 seconds after leaving the Boon Totem’s range.
Only one Totem can be blessed by your Boon Perks at a time and all of their effects are active on the same Boon Totem.
“So much the better if no one can ever say with absolute certainty: There is Arsène Lupin! The essential point is that the public may be able to refer to my work and say, without fear of mistake: Arsène Lupin did that!” — Maurice Leblanc, Arsène Lupin – Gentleman Thief

Forgot to add I find that P5 is more subtle about it’s Arsène Lupin references beyond the obvious persona ,being able to check out Arsène Lupin Gentleman Burglar and Joker’s temporary residence being named after Maurice Leblanc. Like the big plot twist in the vanilla game paralleling a big plot twist in The Golden Triangle
