M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?
More than a premise, I have a White Collar/Forever fic that is half-written but half abandonned, cause I got 1- stuck on the plot. 2- distracted by a different fandom. But it's a case fic about Henry's flintlock that will involve both teams and I'm quite happy with the half I've written. :-) The good news is, I think I have figured what was wrong with my plot. The bad news is, it requires lots of re-writing...
I also have a couple of Zorro fics I'm working on/have ideas for. (When I say "couple" I mean "way too many" LOL). One where Zorro would be caught and unmasked. One where Diego has to save the day as Diego. One about how his father figured it out (following canon). But I'm actually working now on a Rosarita/Diego one.
S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?
I think it depends on the fandom. In Forever and Zorro, where the main character has a secret, it's obviously anything involving them putting their secret at risk (out of love, heroism, etc...). In fandoms where the hero is sort of a tragic figure (like Person of Interest), it's all the fluff/comfort/love they don't think they deserve. For other fandoms, it can be post-canon reunion fics.

Struggle
Glicht tried to bring himself present again, but it was a struggle merely to breathe through the fresh wound in his back—aching with every heartbeat—and the older ones, miraculously healed as though by a full Visiting, but still sore and stiff.
Harsh
When Lohak remained silent, Glicht let out a harsh laugh. “It ain’t like you didn’t know I was a mask.”
Quite
Lohak looked over in surprise to see Thack chin-to-chest, dead asleep sitting up on his stool. Looked quite a trick; Glicht wondered if it came from a long history of doing the same on noleback.

But Jack didn't mind. It was mindless, repetitive work with no risk of him falling off something or getting whacked with a rope or drowning in canvas, and it didn't require him to hold up a conversation, his thoughts mostly still running in that wordless way they did when he was a wolf. Translating English would take more focus than he had to spare at the moment.

^ From a still-untitled WIP, 19-year-old Jack Russell runs away to join the circus (he has his reasons and they're actually decent ones), where he befriends not-yet-cursed Johnny Blaze. Shenanigans ensue, laced with angst and heavy foreshadowing.
(The working title of the doc I started writing this in is 'Dork Side of the Moon,' but in my head I think of it as either 'Circus AU' or 'The Jack and Johnny Show.' Proposed titles include '8 Nights Under the Big Top' and 'Entry of the Gladiators,' the latter of which I like because I enjoy making oblique references but I'm worried it will set readers up to expect cage fights, of which there are none)

WIP folder

if it's not too late to ask about WIP titles - 'If you’re still breathing,' and 'Kids will be kids'
"Kids will be Kids" is a little humor oneshot where Barbara walks in on the teen guardians of Arcadia messing around.

"If You're Still Breathing" is going to be a short chapter fic in the "Two Years in the Dark" AU (where Jim is trapped in the Darklands two years instead of two weeks). In this story it's the 1st year anniversary of Jim being trapped in the Darklands. Claire uses a piece of heartstone to fuel an attempt to open a portal to the Darklands... this turns out to be a very Bad Idea.
Have a teaser:
Carefully Claire settled on the ground so she was sitting with her legs wrapped around the heartstone piece. She expanded the Shadow Staff and held it in her right hand while her left rested on the stone. It was warm under her fingers. The energy tingled under her hand: alive and full of potential. The Shadow Staff was the opposite: cold and hungry. It was easy to allow herself to become a conduit between the two. Closing her eyes she drew in a breath and released it.
Focus.
She thought of Jim. Of his dorky little smile and bright blue eyes. Of the terror she felt when she realized he had gone into the Darklands without them. Of her building desperation as the days passed and their hopes of getting him back dwindled.
The staff grew black under her fingertips. The heartstone flickered.
Frustration welled in her as the magic failed to catch on anything, but she was not going to be deterred that easily. She reached out farther, casting about with a mental net.
Her grip on the Shadow Staff tightened until it was biting into her hand. Still she focused.
Farther and farther she pushed.
Then she felt something. She wasn’t sure what but she grabbed for it and tried to pull.

writer ask meme: O, P?
O: How do you begin a story--with the plot, or the characters?
Right now, with the plot, or a concept I know I want to work with. I have a set few characters I like to work with and my writing is currently mostly on exploring situations I think they’d be interesting in.

P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an "architect" or a "gardener"? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)
For most fics, I definitely lean toward being an architect. Of the oneshots and shorter multi-chapter fics I have rn, I know the course they’re going to take and how they’re going to get there and they won’t deviate too much from that.
For a longer fic (currently only Souls), I’d say mostly architect, but with some gardener thrown in for spice. For the most part, Souls is extensively planned, but it’s also extremely malleable. I’ve had the general concept I’ve wanted to build toward in its climax for a while, but it was only really last night that I started to set down what that’ll look like in terms of plot points and it still could change. Like I have an idea of where it’s going to end up, but I also keep its outline open to changes along the way.
For example, the next chapter (13) is going to see the introduction of a concept that’s been through quite a few versions since it was first conceptualized.

Introduction
Hey-o! I’m archaeopter-ace, if that’s too much of a mouthful you can call me Archaeo, or Archae, or Arch, we’ll see what sticks. plz not Archie. Nor RKO, because while I adore puns and wordplay, I’m not that into wrestling.
My love for the Trollhunters fandom, and all the awesome content you guys are creating over here, brought me back to tumblr after something like two years away. (please bear with me as I codeswitch back into the lingo, and forgive my superannuated taste in memes.)
Previously (and still, I guess, currently) I went by Quarticmoose, and while that remains my handle on AO3, youtube, ffnet, and elsewhere, here on this site I wanted to build my dashboard up again from scratch, with a narrower focus on fandom. I got overwhelmed before, and I didn’t have a good tagging system in place, and for whatever reason I hoard information, which means that it bugs me to no end if I remember something and can’t find it again... basically, I had a list of likes 3000 deep that I was determined to excavate layer by layer to find that one post I was looking for (I was unable to scroll straight down to it because my browser would crash before I could get to whatever I happened to be looking for, hence ‘excavating,’ a word which here means carefully removing layers of liked posts one at a time and carefully cataloging each one.)
And that’s enough about that. (more than enough. whole reason for this shiny new url [besides a friend telling me that new melanosome research suggests archaeopteryx may have been black, gray, and purple, and my first thought was omg ace pride! though I have since been unable to find any studies referencing purple... *sigh*] was to leave all that mess behind me and start fresh.)
