in the dreaming comes the warmth / the domino twins
Tumblr media
characters: echo & fives (NOT CLONEC*ST)
description: the ache of missing fives leaves a hole in echo's chest that only his brother's warmth can fill.
warnings: angst. loss. grief. mourning. echo is still grieving despite being part of clone force 99. it's not mentioned, but i imagine this particular moment of pain is triggered by crosshair's chip activation and leaving him behind on kamino.
this was a request from a lovely twitter mutual who wanted a hug between echo and fives <3 i haven't written for echo before so i hope i did him justice. also posted this on ao3. feedback is welcomed, reblogs are appreciated <3
Tumblr media
Echo knew he was dreaming when he recognised the bright white hallways of Tipoca City, which in the waking world sat submerged in the Kaminoan oceans to fade into rust forever. The hallways were as familiar to him as the curves of his face, memorised and so burned into his memory it was no real shock that he could navigate them as he did now in his sleep.
Echo walked through the corridors, passing what he knew were squads of his fellow troopers with faces identical to his, except his dreaming made them blurry, not fully formed. He passed the gangly Kaminoan’s, their large eyes prominent in the haze of their figures, which seemed to blend with the clinical white of the walls. He didn’t exactly know where he was walking until his feet took him to the junior cadet barracks, the ones he and his brothers shared in their brief childhood.
It was surreal seeing it now, as he walked in, the shapes of the beds and the curves of the walls more defined than the hallways, more distinct in his mind. He took it all in, breathing in the scentless air. The last time he was here, he didn’t even have his name yet – none of them did.
The beds were so much smaller than he remembered. He smiled and sat down on one. He ran a hand he shouldn’t have over the cloth blanket, its fibers feeling as familiar as his own skin. An ache formed in his chest for all he had lost.
The door whooshed open, and his head shot in the direction of the noise. It was then he saw himself run in and climb onto the nearest bed, pulling his knees to his chest and burying his face in his arms.
Echo blinked in surprise.
His child self was curled into a ball, as tight as he could manage, and Echo could only see the curly dark hair of his head. He remembered he used to do that when he got overwhelmed, but he couldn’t remember when he stopped. He watched his child self grip onto the sleeves of his standard issue cadet uniform tightly, the knuckles on his little hands white.
His child self didn’t see him and made no moves to show that he knew Echo was there at all. It was strange to see himself like this. To see a snapshot of the person he was for a short amount of time.
Echo slowly stood up, the urge to know what it was that made his child self cry when the door opened again, and his breath got caught in his throat and his eyes stung when he saw who it was that stepped in the door.
This was not just a dream, but a memory.
Fives’s tiny face was the same as his had been, except his brother’s seemed to be perpetually twisted into a smirk, and if it wasn’t, it itched at the corners of his mouth, ready to bloom at a moment’s notice. But his face now held no impishness, instead, his small brows were furrowed as his gaze landed on his brother’s curled-up body on the bed.
“Hey, 21-0408, why the long face?”
Echo had to sit down and cover his mouth with a hand to stop the sob that dared to escape his throat. His brother’s voice, albeit that of his child self, felt so incredibly comforting. He thought he’d never hear it again, even if it was that little boy’s voice that all clones had as young cadets. To Echo, it just sounded like him; like Fives; like it did in his fuzzy memories.
His childhood had been a fleeting blur of training programs and accelerated growth, so he didn’t remember much of it. But he didn’t forget moments like this, where his brother’s love had engulfed him.
Echo watched his child self slowly peek his eyes out from his arms at his older brother.
“Go away,” Little Echo mumbled.
“Come on, 21-0408,” Little Fives said and climbed up onto the bed next to him, trying to pry open his arms. “What’s wrong?”
Little Echo ripped his arm away and wiped his tear-stained face and nose with his sleeve. Echo grimaced as he saw the dark line that now appeared on the red fabric. He forgot kids could be gross sometimes, even himself.
“I said, go away, 27-5555,” Little Echo grumbled. “I want to be alone.”
Little Echo had no idea just how much time he would spend alone.
“Why?” Of course, Fives never let up about anything, even as a child.
Little Echo scowled at his shoes on the bed. “I…I keep messing up…”
“This module is hard, vod’ika,” Little Fives placed a hand on Little Echo’s shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze.
Fives was barely older than Echo, but his older brother never let him forget it. With the Mando’a nickname ‘little brother’ sticking to Echo for practically as long as he’d known Fives. He pretended to hate it, and he’d give anything to hear it again. So, hearing it now, Echo’s heart seized. He wanted to grab his younger self by the shoulders and tell him to treasure the nickname; to never roll his eyes and pretend to hate it; to call Fives ori’vod in return because he knew he’d get a kick out of it.
“But everyone’s good at this module except me…” Little Echo voiced quietly, not entirely convinced.
Echo tried to wrack his brain for what module his younger self was talking about, but his dreaming made it too hazy to pinpoint; like if his subconscious ventured too far away from the scene in front of him it would fizzle away, and his dream would move onto something else. And he wanted to stay in this for as long as he could.
“You’ll get it eventually; it just takes practice,” Little Fives reassured.
“I’m going to fail…and never be a soldier…” his younger self sniffled. Echo saw his eyes gloss over again with unshed tears.
“Don’t talk like that,” Little Fives chastised, punching him lightly in the shoulder, a furious look on his face. “You’ll be fine. I’ll help you.”
Little Echo’s face lit up with hope. “You will?”
Little Fives nodded. “That’s what brothers do. We look out for each other; have each other’s backs.”
Echo watched his younger self sniffle as he looked at his older brother, who gave him a reassuring smile.
“Promise?” he said.
“Promise,” Little Fives said with so much conviction, that it made Echo’s heart squeeze again. He was always so sure of everything, never faltering – not even for a second. Once Fives believed in something, he didn’t waver. Ever.
Little Echo smiled, and wrapped his arms around his brother, who hugged him tightly. Echo watched them embrace, anchoring themselves to each other. He didn’t realise he was crying until he felt a tear fall on his hands in his lap. He reached up to wipe them away, scoffing lightly at himself.
“Hey, Echo, why the long face?”
Echo’s heart seemed to expand and stop as he turned around, seeing Fives standing there behind him several metres away. He turned back to where their younger selves sat on the bed and saw they had vanished, that the room had melted away into a long bright endless plane.
“Fives?” Echo wiped his face again and he saw Fives grin at him, before walking over. Echo blinked around the tears to take the sight of him. His figure was much clearer than anything else he’d seen so far in his dreams. Fives was adorned in his ARC trooper armour; helmet tucked under his arm with a proud smile stretched across his face. He willed his subconscious to stay in this moment, that it would be cruel to rip him from it with no warning. He needed time with him.
“Don’t look so happy to see me,” Fives joked when he came closer, his mouth quirked in that smirk that was so incredibly familiar seeing it felt like coming home.
Echo laughed tearfully. “Your ugly face is just so scary, I can’t help but cry.”
Fives threw his head back in a loud guffaw before punching Echo lightly on the arm. “It’s good to see you, vod’ika.”
Echo’s heart filled with so much warmth at the affection. “Good to see you too, Fives.”
Fives smiled at him before Echo asked, “What are you doing here?”
Fives didn’t respond, he just looked at Echo thoughtfully. Echo cleared his throat and shook his head. “When they found me on Skako Minor and you weren’t with them…”
He felt Fives’s heavy hand land on his shoulder, squeezing it gently. “I know. But I’m here now.”
Echo felt his lip tremble and he willed himself to take a breath. “I missed so much time with you.”
Fives shook his head. “Don’t think about that.”
“How can I not? I missed everything. I missed…”
“I wouldn’t have wanted you to see that anyway.”
He didn’t need to say the words for Echo to know what he was referring to.
“I…I would’ve believed you.”
“Then you would be dead too.”
Clones were conditioned not to linger on the losses of their fellow brothers. It was the nature of what they were bred for. Born knowing they would die. They were taught to take a moment to mourn, then to keep going. There was no time to let the grief linger in war.
But this was much harder than Echo had been conditioned to think.
Echo’s grief for losing Fives was too complicated for that. Echo lost Fives after the fact. He was mourning him outside of the mourning period, outside of the war. And it was something he didn’t know how to handle. The grief could sit for longer, dawdle almost now that there wasn’t another mission to focus on instead. And it was painful. A never-ending agony that oscillated between a dull ache to suffocating sharpness in the hole of his chest.
Fives had been a constant in his life, from cadets to losing their squad on Rishi Moon, to joining Rex in the 501st, all the way until the fateful night of the Citadel rescue. Fives had been there for all of it. Even thereafter, in the brief lucid moments in cryostasis on Skako, his thoughts would drift to his ori’vod. So, to be released into that mourning, to realise he was free, but without his beloved brother by his side was lonelier than stasis had been.
And hearing how exactly Fives met his end had not made it any easier. It was the unfairest of deaths, and that knowledge almost hurt more. That he wasn’t there. How if he had been, it may have gone differently.
There were so many moments where Echo would think of something he wanted to tell Fives, only to realise a moment later that he couldn’t. It was a cycle of remembering he was gone. Those milliseconds of bliss, before he remembered, were bookended by the searing hurt. And there was no one to share that hurt with.
Rex was elusive in his hiding and had gone through his mourning period. And though Clone Force 99 had provided him with a home, a comradery, that he was grateful for, they had not lost anyone the way Echo had lost Fives. They didn’t fully understand.
Echo just wanted the one person who understood him, who knew him inside and out.
In other, much less complicated words, Echo missed Fives so, so much.
And at those lowest moments when he missed him; when the aching felt never-ending and moving forward felt futile, Echo imagined what it would’ve been like had they both found their ends together. How much easier it would’ve been on his heart, to know that his brother was with him even in death. That if there was an afterlife, it would be spent together. That their hearts had stopped at the same time, one not forced to go on without the other helping keep it in rhythm.
The galaxy had not been so kind to grant him that.
“I…I know,” Echo replied quietly, his throat thick.
He watched Fives’ face study him for a moment before his brow settled into a crease, and his hand tightened on Echo’s shoulder. “Echo…don’t be sad.”
Echo looked at him with disbelief. He could see all the texture in his face and feel the puff of breath against his nose. It was as if he wasn’t dreaming at all. “How…how can I not be sad? You’re not here.”
“No, but you are. You have a second chance, Echo. A second chance to live.”
Echo shook his head. “You should be here too.”
“Maybe. But my path was different to yours. You finally get a chance to choose what you do with your life. Nobody else; you, vod’ika. That freedom I was fighting for? You have it now. You have for both of us. Do something good with it. Something we’d both be proud of.”
Echo looked at his brother searching his face for something he couldn’t name. Maybe he wasn’t searching at all, but memorising. Memorising the look Fives was giving him now; the pride, the unwavering belief he had in him. He hadn’t seen it in such a long time. No one had expected anything of him in just as long.
“Promise me you will, Echo.”
He didn’t even need to think about it. “I promise.”
Echo could feel the waking world calling him, so before Fives faded away, he wrapped his arms around his brother. Fives dropped his helmet and didn’t hesitate to embrace Echo back. Arms tightly holding each other, hearts pressed together and beating in time. Echo could feel Fives’s solid chest and his warmth as if he were awake. Everything felt right in the brief, brief moment. That anchor had returned. That pain in his heart had dulled in his dreaming and been replaced with the warmth of his brother he’d been wishing for. He gripped the edges of his brother’s armour, afraid to let go, to leave this moment. But knew he had to. He’d made a promise.
“I love you, Fives,” he choked out.
He felt Fives’s palm run over his hair as he spoke against his ear. “I know. I love you too. Remember, I’m looking out for you.”
Echo jolted awake. His chest heaved as he tried to remember where he was, and his body ached like it just run a marathon. Across the small corridor, Wrecker slept, soft snores sounding. The nightlight in Omega’s space glowed softly through the curtains, and Hunter had fallen asleep on the floor, his back leaning on the wall next to the ladder, no doubt guarding their sister’s bad dreams. He could hear Tech tinkering away in the cockpit, on watch as they flew through hyperspace. Where was Crosshair?
Oh. Right.
Echo ran a hand over his face and turned towards the wall, his eyes stinging with tears. He curled in on himself, wrapping his arms around his middle, ignoring the bulk of his scomp. He tried to preserve the warmth he felt from his dreams which threatened to evaporate in the chill of hyperspace. He pressed his eyes shut, willing himself to go back into that dream, to return to Fives and get one last look at him, but it was no use. He was here. And Fives was there, or somewhere.
It could’ve been a few minutes or an hour when he heard a voice. “Echo?”
He turned to see Tech looking down at him in his bunk, adjusting his goggles. “What is it, Tech?”
“I’m afraid it’s your turn on watch.”
“Great. Thanks,” Echo grumbled.
He tried to inconspicuously wipe his eyes as he swung his metal legs out of the bunk and stood up, stretching his neck. He watched Tech remove his goggles and rub his eyes and sat down on the edge of Echo’s bunk. They had limited space, and Echo didn’t mind sharing.
“Sweet dreams,” Echo told him as Tech lay down, falling asleep almost immediately, as he tended to do.
Echo walked to the cockpit and shut the door so the light from their travels wouldn’t disturb the others. He sat in the pilot’s seat and sighed, putting his head in his hand, no hair on his head to clasp as he tried to recentre himself. He took in some steady breaths, focusing on a screw in the floor panelling. He did everything he could to quell the turning of his stomach and the throbbing in his chest. Just as quickly as it had filled in his dream, the waking world had returned that giant hole in his chest, seemingly aware that something had filled it again briefly, and now it felt the absence more.
When would this feeling of emptiness end?
The Marauder shifted in its hyperspace travels, tilting off course slightly, triggering some alarms. Echo immediately sprang into action, and his hand and scomp grabbed the controls to steady the ship. With a frown, he checked the stabilisers and saw they needed recalibrating. Didn’t Tech just deal with this after they’d left Ordo Moon mere hours ago? He tried and failed not to get annoyed – he just needed to fix this, and quickly so they didn’t veer off course and fall into a star. He sighed, knowing they’d have to come out of hyperspace for these repairs. Maybe the ship had been more damaged than he thought.
Echo slowly pulled back the hyperdrive lever and the ship came to a halt in open space. He hoped no one woke up with the disturbance and that this wouldn’t take long. They didn’t have time to waste. He placed the Marauder in idle whilst he scomped in and started recalibrating. It was a lot easier now that Tech had upgraded his cerebral interface, so there was less strain on him. He was able to scomp in and load up the commands without much effort. As the commands processed through the system, he watched the stabilisers respond and recalibrate in his mind’s eye.
It was then he felt a shiver run up his spine.
A monitor beeped, interrupting his realignment, and Echo looked at a screen searching for the alert among the pop-ups when he noticed the time.
05:55. Echo’s breath hitched.
He heard the door behind him slide open but didn’t look away from the monitor. He couldn’t.
“Everything okay in here? I felt something,” Hunter’s voice thick with sleep asked.
Echo kept his gaze on the numerals, and he allowed himself to smile, that warmth he’d been longing for slowly filling the hole in his chest.
“It will be,” he told Hunter.
Fives was keeping his promise, so Echo would too.

Useful resources to help Palestine
When you can't sit and do nothing, but there's nothing that can be done, what do you do?
You do what you can, so here are some useful resources to help Palestine from the discomfort of your home and your heart.
(Dividers are used for the sake of reading information more easily, if it bothers you or if you think it's dangerous to have, please tell me and I will remove them)
Tumblr media
Arab.org
The most famous and easiest to use now is arab.org, a completely free and easy to use website where all you need to do is click a single button and you'll be already donating to Palestine, as well as other causes of your choice. It takes less than 5 minutes to donate to all 6 causes: Palestine, Poverty, Children, Women, Refugeees and Enviroment. AND if you got some spare time, you can change browsers and enable private navigation so you can click more than just a single time.
Arab.org works by, basically, viewing an ad. The text on their website says:
"You essentially are changing the world with the few seconds of attention that you give to the product/brand/service being promoted. The advertiser sets aside a budget and you, by viewing the ad, operate the transfer of revenues from the advertiser’s budget to us and onto the various trusted organizations."
You can find more information on their website.
Tumblr media
Aljazeera
For news, you can rely on Aljazeera, a Palestine news website that is always updated about the situation going on in Palestine as well as other country's news and perspectives about the situation too.
Looking, reading and LEARNING, and most important, not forgetting about the situation, is one of the most useful ways of helping. Do not let their culture die down.
Palestine Solidarity Campaign
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign website gathers all of the PSC's campaigns, such as disarming Israel, boycotting brands that are supporting Israel, Apartheids and more.
Tumblr media
Reporters and resources
There are some easy to follow reporters that are constantly updating about the situation in Palestine. Here are some of them:
Tumblr media
Wizard_bisan1 is the reporter who proposed the boycott, also updating on donation links.

Tumblr media
Decolonize Palestine is a collection of resources for organizers and anyone who wants to learn more about Palestine. It's filled with books, debunking myths and propaganda and articles about Palestine.
[Image ID: A screenshot of the main page for the website "Decolonize Palestine. It depicts an art of a woman dressed in white palestinian traditional clothing and a rural landscape scenario. On top of it, it's the website's logo in black. It's a key with the name of the project on the side. ID over.]
Tumblr media
Eye on Palestine is a group dedicared to spreading information and raising awareness about the situation in Palestine.

A lot of artists right now are doing commissions, with all the funds being donated to Palestine organizations. Some of them are:
Crows4Palestine
AB for Gaza (Brazilian lead project)
(Will update this list as I find more. You can also DM me or leave suggestions in the comments/reblogs. I will add all of them to the pain post)

COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO UNOFFICIAL GUILTY GEAR TRANSLATIONS + SOME OTHER STUFF
THIS POST HAS BECOME A PAIN IN THE ASS TO UPDATE AND I WILL ONLY BE UPDATING THE NEOCITIES PAGE FROM HERE ON OUT. SORRY.... GUILTY GEAR FAN MEDIA TOO POWERFUL https://solradguy.neocities.org/ggmasterpost
----
Please contact me if there are translations in other languages (or I missed something) and I will add them to this post. If you find this post through a reblog with an old "last updated" date, check the original post on my blog for more recent information. There is a mirror of this post on my Neocities page. The Neocities page also has better navigation, organization, and will now be updated before this post.
Wanna help out but have never scanned a book before? Here's a guide I wrote on book scanning: Tumblr Link
I have done my best to link all of the works here back to their original scanlator/translator's uploads and hosting websites:
🔥 Volcanic Fighter (aka Nincopyjasb) - If there's a surviving archive for something Guilty Gear, Volcanic probably has it. Works in English and Spanish.
Twitter - Youtube
🔥 Justice Revival Project (aka Longshotte) - Formed solely to translate the GG Xtra manga.
Mangadex - Twitter
🔥 Ed Chang - One of the first, and most prolific, JP>EN translators in the GG community, as well as a popular Gamefaqs author for the old GG games. Used to have a personal website that hosted his works but it is lost to time. He is a name you will see often in old archived works.
🔥 Sol Radguy :) In case my Tumblr gets nuked
Email: junkyarddogmkii [at] gmail [dot] com Archive.org - Neocities - Mangadex
🔥 Tillman - Scans and archives manga and Encyclopedia/guide book volumes, as well as rips animations and other information from Vastedge and the old games.
Neocities - Tumblr - Archive.org
🔥 LesbianGiratina - Has scanned a very substantial chunk of the Guilty Gear trading cards. Also scans some of the rarer side media or special release editions of games.

Unfortunately, these are the only translations out there of these drama CDs. The Spanish translations of these 3 volumes worked off Blade's English ones. Read at your own risk. A new translation is currently in progress by Vaporbabe.

NOTE: There are significant errors in Ed Chang's translation (& possibly in Aegis High's & Volcanic's, which worked off of Chang's text), the biggest of which is the infamous "Johnny Sfondi" last name mistranslation. Cross-reference information presented in these texts with more recent confirmed canon before using it as a source or citation. Ed Chang's statement on these translations can be read here: screenshot. Tl;dr: Chang was new to Japanese translation and the mistakes were honest accidents. These translations are nearly 20 years old. Vaporbabe may very well do a new translation for this CD too.

The Daily D/S For 1/17/24:
How has your perception of pleasure and pain evolved through BDSM experiences?
Reflecting on my journey within the BDSM lifestyle, the evolution of my perception of pleasure and pain has been a transformative and unexpected experience. Initially, the discovery that I derived pleasure from inflicting consensual, pleasurable pain was both shocking and startling. Coming to terms with this aspect of myself required navigating the complexities of self-discovery and understanding.
In the early stages of my journey, the notion that I could find enjoyment in causing consensual pain was met with confusion and internal conflict. Society often conditions us to perceive pain solely as a negative sensation, and acknowledging its pleasurable aspect challenged societal norms. I grappled with understanding how this seemingly contradictory revelation could coexist within me.
However, as the journey within the lifestyle unfolded, so did my understanding of myself. Through open communication, exploration, and a willingness to delve into the depths of my desires, I began to accept and, ultimately, embrace this facet of my authenticity. It became evident that the pleasure derived from consensual pain was not rooted in harm but rather in the mutual trust and exploration between consenting individuals.
The process of self-acceptance and embracing this unexpected aspect of my desires was not instantaneous. It required patience, introspection, and a commitment to understanding the complexities of pleasure and pain within the context of BDSM. Gradually, I came to recognize that my enjoyment of consensual pain did not define me negatively but rather added a layer of richness to my identity.
Now, with an evolved perspective, I proudly express my enjoyment of giving consensual, pleasurable pain. My favorite implements, such as a wooden spoon, wooden clothespins, or the tactile touch of my hands, have become tools of connection and expression within the consensual dynamics I engage in.
This journey has taught me that self-discovery is an ongoing and ever-evolving process. What may initially shock or challenge us can, over time, become an integral part of our authentic selves. By embracing the complexities of our desires, we not only understand ourselves better but also contribute to the richness and diversity of the BDSM community.
My perception of pleasure and pain has undergone a profound transformation through my experiences with the lifestyle. I have learned to accept, embrace, and celebrate the consensual, pleasurable aspects of pain as an integral part of who I am. This journey of self-discovery has not only enriched my personal life but has also contributed to the tapestry of understanding within the broader BDSM community.
How has your perception of pleasure and pain evolved through BDSM experiences? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.

Something that has always been important with reading news and parsing out information on social media is understanding several framing tactics used to shift what the reader takes away from it:
These are almost verbatim based on actual news articles, so hopefully these are some good critical skills for navigating communication.
Tumblr media
Past Exonerative language
The term “past exonerative tense” was first coined by political analyst William Schneider to describe a construction used by political leaders, which enabled them to acknowledge wrongdoing while absolving themselves of responsibility.
The link I've provided gives useful information and more elaboration on this, so it's helpful to understand. Let's use a simple headline example:
"10 were killed in a bombing."
This sentence uses the passive voice to remove who is doing the bombing and the focus is then put on the bombing itself rather than focusing on an active choice by another party. Compare it to our next example:
"The US military bombed 10 people."
You will see this quite often with discussing police violence or imperial violence. The passive voice allows the writer to exclude the actor from their complicity in the situation.
"The US military bombed a group of terrorists"
This time the subject is included, but the language has shifted the way the reader would view the people being acted upon in this case. This framing relies on the dehumanization of the victim to imagine the subject as being justified in their behavior.
Hamas terrorist organization threatens women and children. US retaliates with bombing.
Right now this is especially relevant with the use of "Hamas" with regard to coverage on Palestine and how it's used as an all-encompassing entity which is how we get framing like this. It leaves out the death toll and imagines the US military as being on the defensive. It intentionally obscures the power differential between the two.
This isn't disputing the bombing as happening, but it imagines the people it happened to as deserving it.
"She's so intolerant. She just keeps forcing her opinions on other people."
What is the actual opinion? By intentionally leaving out what the opinion is actually about, the intention is to shift focus less on the matter at hand and more on the behavior of the person making the critique.
It's also common to flatten the actor by intentionally obscuring who they are or conflating them with others:
Simpsons makes new episode and Twitter is outraged
"twitter" is the stand-in for a specific user, whose credibility is not highlighted and the choice of "outrage" is used to specify tone. It flattens the actors making the critique to just an angry Twitter mob while also leaving out the context of what the actual critique is.
Retemporalization
Here's an excerpt from the book Native Americans on Network TV : Stereotypes, Myths, and the 'Good Indian'
In addition to myth, there are other methods used to elide painful truth and soothe ideological crisis. In a 1987 article, Khatib/Clark explains a psychological process he calls temporal displacement, which he describes as a defense mechanism that deals with embarrassing, contradictory, or painful information.
This "retemporalization" compartmentalizes unwelcome information in another period; in other words, it is buried in the past…it is a way of suggesting that crimes perpetrated against [American Indians] are a thing of the past and that it is too late to do anything about them.
Slavery was 100s of years ago.
We're seriously cancelling someone for a mistake they made decades ago?
Why are you talking about racism in Avatar? You're projecting modern values onto something that was a product of its time.
We've improved so much since then
Word Choice, inclusion and Exclusion
Let's look at a brief news trend when journalists were covering critique of an episode of Bluey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The average reader likely doesn't have an accurate understanding of what fatphobia actually is. These articles take advantage of that to intentionally highlight the people criticizing.
The choice of word "slammed" implies a specific tone and message to imagine the critic as extremely upset and forceful in their critique. It paints the picture of a grown adult angrily screaming and upset over a children's cartoon.
From the MSN article, this is one brief passage:
Furious viewers flocked to Twitter to share their concern over the message in the episode, with one saying: ‘We watched today’s new Bluey episode on catch-up and I tuned out 10 seconds in when Bandit stood on a set of scales because Bluey has a really, really damaging way of portraying food, exercise and being “healthy”.’
However, once you see the actual person they're referring to, they leave out that these "furious viewers" are in fact disability advocates and dieticians and are in fact not furious. It also leaves out the sources they cited supporting their position and the fact that the responses from random people harassing them on Twitter were framed as having equal weight despite projecting assumptions onto the original speaker.
Another article by 7news on the same topic has this title and header:
Bluey viewers turn on hit show as ‘triggering’ episode sparks raging debate
A paediatric dietitian has led the charge to change the first 30 seconds of the controversial Bluey episode.
Again, the tone conveys anger and offense to portray the speaker, a dietician as being upset over a cartoon and intentionally includes the word "triggering" to make a passing reader think they're referring to the cartoon itself being so upsetting they couldn't finish it. This misrepresents the nature of the criticism, which was pretty mild when you actually look up what it is.
Instead, the article titles intentionally frame the critics as overly emotional in the word choice they choose to include or exclude and where focus is placed on them in the article.
Another article by the Associated Press comes to mind:
BREAKING: Minnesota authorities say the police officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck has been arrested.
The word choice here opts for "knelt" rather than "murdered."
Tumblr media
If you open the article, it goes on to say:
Officer charged with George Floyd’s death as protests flare
The article shifts focus on to the perceived rebellious protestors responding to the murder and not the fact that the police murdered a Black man:
The white Minneapolis police officer who pressed his knee into George Floyd’s neck as he begged for air was arrested Friday and charged with murder, and crowds broke overnight curfews imposed to try to stem violent protests over police killings of African Americans that have spread to cities across the U.S.
On Minneapolis’ south side, officers fired tear gas and rubber bullets to drive back crowds of protesters who then set cars and businesses on fire and broke into stores, including some near a police station.
This framing seeks to highlight unruly protests over the coverage of the fact that a police officer publicly murdered a Black man. The majority of the article doesn't cover the actual events of George Floyd but is centered around the protests after the most important moment to discuss--the murder.
Always question sources and get the basic facts, but also question the motivation of the writers by interrogating how they frame the issue to the reader.

Do you think the helpful Europeans on tumblr and twitter who keep advising Americans in red states to move to blue states realize that that distance between Dallas, TX and Chicago, IL is about the same as between Paris, France and Warsaw, Poland ?
I'm going to say probably not, no. Also, "just move!!!" is about as helpful as "start a revolution!!" in terms of a workable solution, which is... not at all. I have had to move a lot (a LOT) in my life, and it totally absolutely sucks even when it's somewhere you WANT to go/do! When you don't and you're being forced by external circumstances, it sucks even worse. It is expensive, exhausting, time-consuming, stressful, and generally a pain in the ass, and when you get to where you're going, you've got to transfer your voter registration, your driver's license, your utility bills, your health insurance, navigate a new administration system, find a job, resettle your life, make new friends, etc etc. It is a total absolute fucking HASSLE, and not to mention, most people who won't be able to afford so much as traveling out of state for an abortion will absolutely not be able to afford moving!
Like, I am lucky enough to be a lesbian living in a blue state (albeit a very red part of said state), so this is very unlikely to apply to me personally. But if, God forbid, a situation arose where I needed to get up and leave immediately, I would almost surely not be able to do that. I haven't been able to do it in the last three years despite vigorous trying, and the only reason that I might be able to do it now is because a) my grandmother recently died and my mom inherited some money from her estate, and b) she also has a job now when she hadn't for a while. So in my personal circumstances, if it was extremely necessary, my parents could help me get out. But that is a sheer fluke and dependent only on our own situation and, given how poor all of us have been for many years, would absolutely not have been an option before.
Besides, "just uproot your whole life because fascists run your home state!" is astoundingly tone-deaf. Due to gerrymandering and other Republican dirty tricks, a state counts as "red" if only 50.1% of the population votes for the Republican candidate; that still leaves the 49.9% who didn't and yet are subject to GOP nonsense anyway. It's like when liberals write off the entire South or see them as "deserving" it, when, like... you know how the South has been structured, built, and sustained on minority-white-conservative rule since the beginning, right? The many good people who are NOT racist Christofascist KKKlowns have been fighting for DECADES to undo some of those structural barriers and systemic injustices, and some of the keyboard warriors need to do as much work as even one day in the life of a southern community organiser or local Democrat before they shoot their mouths off about The Establishment.
Anyway, I suspect that telling someone from Poland (where abortion is likewise tightly restricted/outlawed) to "just move to France" as a solution wouldn't be particularly well-received. Plus, Europeans, or indeed any non-Americans at all, who feel like chiming in right now should restrict their commentary to "I'm sorry the Supreme Court did this" and "let me know if I can help." That goes double for all the non-American leftists who get cred points on Socialist Twitter by bashing the Democrats endlessly, and never have to live in American society, participate in it, vote in it, live with the consequences of their words, or anything else at all. The end.

Uninstalled Facebook app and deactivated my Twitter again. Ugh.
My therapist asked me how much time I'd want to spend on my phone, ideally. I told her, ideally, it'd never use it, and I'd use it all the time. I tend to live in these black-and-whites but only when it comes to my own behavior.
Ideally I would never use it. But my brain wants to use it most of the time. For decades it's been a way to not think, because thinking can be painful. As a result my attention span has waned, my creativity has shriveled, and the act of sitting alone with my thoughts feels like withdrawel. I blather endlessly and have to resist the urge to opine on everything because everyone says you must have an opinion.
It's dumb. I need it to a degree to stay in contact with my friends, to navigate, to know what's going on in the world. I also get beautiful art from it, I meet lovely people, I share things I'm proud of and store memories. I journal, like this, even though I have a real physical journal, just because it sometimes feels better to toss it out in front of a handful of people who might relate.
Ugggh. Ughuggugh. I use a productivity app to limit usage but then someone starts messaging me and I have to turn the limit off so I don't disappear on them. I need to get better at just leaving it in another room. It's almost laughable how bad I am at it. I feel like to used to have iron self control, then started giving myself breaks and compassion, and now I have very little.
I've been trying to learn to draw again. I'm exercising when I can get myself too. My therapist days rewards are important and I need to look at any progress as a great success instead of "not enough".
Ok, bye.

Mastering Social Media Marketing: Strategies for Successful Business Campaigns
In today's digital age, the power of social media cannot be underestimated. With the right social media marketing strategy, businesses can catapult their online presence, engage with their target audience, and drive sales like never before. In this article, we will explore the stages of effective sales funnels combined with the prowess of social media advertising, providing you with a roadmap to successful digital and social media marketing.
Introduction: In an era where social media is an integral part of our lives, leveraging it for business growth has become a necessity. From establishing a brand identity to driving sales, the potential of social media marketing is limitless. This article will guide you through the stages of a sales funnel integrated with the power of social media advertising, helping you craft winning campaigns that resonate with your audience.
Sales Funnel Stages and Social Media Strategy
Awareness: The first stage of a sales funnel is creating awareness. Social media promotion is an ideal tool here. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter allow you to reach a broad audience and generate interest in your products or services. Utilize eye-catching visuals and engaging content to pique curiosity and attract potential customers.
Interest and Consideration: At this stage, your audience is intrigued. Now, it's time to provide valuable content that showcases your expertise. Blog sites and article websites can serve as valuable resources. Share insightful articles about your industry, offering solutions to common problems. Establish your brand as a thought leader, building trust among your audience.
Decision and Intent: As your audience moves closer to making a decision, focus on social media branding and marketing. Craft compelling posts that highlight the unique features of your offerings. Share success stories and customer testimonials to reinforce your credibility. This is also the phase to introduce limited-time offers or discounts through social media campaigns to nudge potential customers towards conversion.
Action and Conversion: The final stage of the sales funnel is the conversion. Direct your audience to your website using persuasive website copy that clearly communicates the value of your products or services. Seamless navigation and a user-friendly interface are crucial here. Beyond the Surface: Edward's Journey Unfolded
Welcome to my little corner of Tumblr. If you have found your way here, you might be curious to learn more about the individual who is curating this unique slice of this pie. Let me take you on a journey through my adventures in the lifestyle which will help you understand the amazing person behind all these words.
Genesis of Discovery, In the Beginning: I embarked on a quest for late-night tacos during my college years, hoping to savor a delicious, elusive delight. However, fate had a different plan for me that night. I
stumbled upon a late-night bookstore, not the tacos I was seeking. This serendipitous introduction to the world of BDSM marked the genesis of my journey, sparking a profound hunger for both lifestyle knowledge and tacos that has persisted to this day.
Diving Down the Rabbit Hole: As I delved deeper, I found not only the intricacies of the BDSM lifestyle but also mentors, a supportive community, and my first D/S relationship. It was a time of transformative self-discovery.
Transition to Adulthood: As the chapter of college drew to a close, I stepped into the world of adulthood, embracing what I thought was the end of an era. Believing that the lifestyle had been nothing more than a fleeting "phase," I set it aside. However, as my vanilla relationships faded and crumbled, I found myself on the precipice of profound self-reflection.
A Return to Authenticity: It became clear that the challenges in my relationships were not their fault; they were mine. I returned to the lifestyle, propelled by a commitment to self-improvement and a desire to be the best version of myself.
Today's Journey: My passion for the lifestyle is unwavering, and I have found a creative outlet to share my unique voice through blogging, podcasting, and social media. While my aim is to help others avoid lifestyle pitfalls as well as my mistakes while striving to be a positive beacon. These creative endeavors also serve as a powerful means of self-expression, which has led to an unexpected achievement in the success of my podcast, Chatting With The Lightkeeper. It ranks among the top 25% of the most-followed podcasts on Spotify, and you can find it on all major platforms.
The Multifaceted Me: Beyond my creative and kinky pursuits, I am a dedicated professional in the world of technology. When not commanding my minions in the office, I am an enthusiastic and skilled downhill skier. When the mountains are not calling, I embrace my inner nerd as a dedicated reader, writer, and history buff. I have a deep passion for all things nautical, and my love for coffee fuels my passion for stirring conversations. Perhaps you should say hello so we can share some java and jabber.
Heartfelt Principles: Integrity, authenticity, consent, communication and continuous self-improvement are a few of the lighthouses that guide my journey. I have learned valuable lessons through mistakes and missteps, such as the importance of honesty. In a past relationship, a small and insignificant bit of dishonesty on my part snowballed into a colossal problem, leading me to realize the true value of honesty and the pain dishonesty leaves behind.
Let's Connect: As we navigate this intriguing and kinky world together, I extend a warm invitation to join me on various channels. Follow my journey on Twitter or I should say X now, Instagram, Facebook, and FetLife where we can continue our exploration.
Dive into the depths of my podcast, Chatting With The Lightkeeper, for enlightening conversations and unique insights. You can find the podcast on all major platforms, ensuring it is easily accessible.
More than just clicks and likes, I am here to encourage genuine connections and thought-provoking discussions. Your messages and thoughts are not just welcomed; they are eagerly anticipated. Feel free to reach out here on FetLife, and let's begin an engaging dialogue.
Together, we can embark on this captivating journey of exploration and connection. So, do not be shy, feel free to say hi!

Hi! Saw your genshin ask, I've actually played genshin for a while (a year and a half by now) and am also a founders enthusiast (have actually read and still read your fics). What is it about the Genshin thing that makes you feel weird? Im not asking in a bad faith or judgemental way, just maybe trying to see where you're coming from so that I could maybe help? Also cause I'd like some more genshin pals
Ahh I'm sorry this took so long to answer anon! This came in and then my Computer Woes started :')
The thing that gets me is I'm not very good at navigating the genshin community and finding what I want to find, tbh so I run into a lot of content that makes me uncomfortable. I'm the kind of person that, I like specific characters and I want content about those characters. I've found a lot of individual art pieces I've liked but the artists don't post many reoccurring of that character. I'm also more into gen stuff with genshin, no ship has really caught my love and adoration, which makes it harder to kind of wade through and find stuff. I'm still working on going through Ao3 but it's hard finding fics and the ones I do aren't really to my taste? Plus a lot of art and stuff is on Twitter and I dislike using the bird app...and the one ship I did check out, I somehow ran across an NSFW week on Twitter and the prompts were disgusting. I run events, I write NSFW but this was just...it was a femslash ship and yet the way the event was described/its prompts were just very misogynistic and gross. And of course the art that sexualizes the child-sized characters, but I've been good about knowing that shit exists and blocking it before I can stumble upon too much. These two were the directed 'are you all like this? :/' comment I made on the last post.
I know this is vauge, it's a lot of pains of just trying to get involved in a new fandom. I have ordered a zine or two so I'm hoping that'll be a good way to 'start' if you will. I'd love to be genshin pals if you're still around anon!
