Rescued African migrants say they are fleeing slavery
Italy has threatened to stop foreign boats carrying migrants rescued in the central Mediterranean Sea from docking in its ports unless other EU countries do more to help. It comes amid a surge in arrivals in recent days, as we reported last night from aboard a German rescue vessel. Tonight we hear from the migrants and refugees themselves. A warning: this report contains images and testimony that you may find distressing.

Algerian authorities have dismantled an international network of migrant smugglers to Europe through Algeria, local media reported on Wednesday.
Fifteen members of this network, nine Syrians and six Algerians were arrested by the central service for the fight against organized crime (SCLCO) and presented to justice on Wednesday.
The investigation, which lasted nearly five months, allowed the Algerian police to trace the network which transported migrants from Syria and Lebanon to Benghazi airport in Libya, according to Ennharonline.
The migrants are then taken by road to the Libyan town of Ghadames from where they are smuggled to Algeria via the border town of Debdeb, following winding desert paths, according to these media.
The members of this network then ensured the transport of migrants to Oran, the large metropolis of western Algeria, a place of regrouping of candidates for the clandestine crossing to Europe, according to Ennharonline.

You gotta love british tories, the ones who always loved to think of italy as part of PIIGS (portugal, italy, ireland, greece, spain…yes that’s their name for these country). Now they are commenting the recent arrivals of migrants in italy in terms defending europe from the “INVASION OF AFRICANS”. Oh my oh my!!! Suddenly they love europe. Same ones who wanted brexit? Same ones who call south europe a financial burden? Same ones who said italians and greeks can only be waiters in england?
I wish southern europeans had more pride and understood there is ALWAYS someone southern than someone else. that they are also considered south of the world, just luckier to actually be on the mainland of western capitalism.

These African migrants are improvising to make their transition, away from the NYC Migrant Centers.  The business is doing something that the city hasn’t and because of that they are being penalized.
They are sleeping, in shifts..They are sleeping in the merchandise show room upstairs, there is certainly no human who deserves this - yet this happens still.
shouldn’t we be asking why?

The Black Subaltern: An Intimate Witnessing (Routledge Studies on African and Black Diaspora)
In The Black Subaltern, Shauna Knox revolts against the construct of the decontextualized self, electing instead to foreground the complex and problematic lived experience of the Black subaltern. Knox offers an account in which Black humanity is flattened, desubstantialized, and lost in a state of perpetual in-betweenness, which she coins subjective transmigration.Over the course of this book,…

Niger repeals trafficking law, sparking fears of new migration surge to Europe
The European Union expressed concern over a surge in African migrants after Niger authorities repealed a law criminalising the trafficking of migrants in the country.
The legislation, known as Law 2015-36, was drafted in 2015 in coordination with the EU and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. As part of the 2015 agreement, the European Union pledged more than $5 billion in aid to stabilise economies and governments in the Sahel region to stem the flow of migrants.
Alia Fakhry, an expert on EU-Africa migration policy at the German Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, said the projects “had a number of objectives, including combating illegal migration, improving public infrastructure, improving border capacity.”
“One of these projects was the project that supported the Niger state to build its border capacity and to draft this new law that would criminalise irregular migration and its facilitation — the work of smugglers, basically. And it’s this law that’s now been revoked (…)”
