his little self pity session at the beach opens the star arcanum to him and he becomes immortal himself. All of my evidence for that one is entirely subjective, but I think that his (prolonged) stay in the shadow realm (of weird nightmares) and the subsequent discoveries about himself REALLY mirror Callum's journey to the sky arcanum. maybe the whole "family is important" stuff is the star arcanum? i'm reaching here (for the stars haha pun)
