In a similar vein to my prior posts about using It's Everyday Bro as a source, we've recently been treated to another song with much the same reputation: Mask by Dream. The song got an infamously negative reaction from its rough animated music video, along with Dream himself being a pretty controversial figure in ways that are honestly more funny than they are upsetting. The song was prime ripping material, but the song's integration onto the channel has been funnier than I could've ever anticipated.

The main thing that elevates Dream rips to another level for me is the implementation of the Sus Mix - if you've been listening to the rip above as while reading this, you might've noticed a few lines in the lyrics don't quite sound right! That's because in almost every rip that uses Mask, the song's fanmade sexually-explicit remix gets integrated into the rip as well at completely unexpected places, which never fails to catch me off-guard in the best way possible. In alternating between the original's so-bad-its-good lyrics and the surprisingly similar-sounding sex lyrics of the remix, Mask rips have become an absolute favorite for me on the channel, and I believe Five Dreams at Night 1.16 was the rip that truly solidified that for me.

The rip uses Living Tombstone's Five Nights at Freddy's song Its Been So Long as its source track, while the main melody alternates between it and Mask itself, and thanks to the nature of the songs used the pitchshifting ends up working extremely well. Honestly, as a ripper I've gotten the feeling that andrés pretty consistently puts in more effort and care than one would expect regardless of the kind of rip he's tackling. As an example, this was one of the first Mask rips to actually ping-pong between the two mixes of the song, rather than playing the versions for extended periods each. The aforementioned pitchshifting and overall production of the rip is done so well that its often hard to notice that its even changed, which elevates the joke even further. The song's first drop is of course the cherry on top of it all, a hysterical yet insanely creative way to both build up the drop itself whilst mining further use of Dream as the rip's joke: If you haven't been listening to the track yet, I don't even want to spoil it.

It ends up being the perfect kind of rip: One that's both immensely funny in its execution, whilst being genuinely listenable as a good piece of music. And, funny enough, I've had this rip in particular in my drafts for a week only for it to become requested mere hours before posting it! In a way, that speaks to just how many other people have been struck by andrés' touch of quality in the same way I have.

Stella jumped up very cutely to the dot, before she was shoved out of the way by Paradox- who not even a second after doing that started howling at themselves. Their eyes were now glowing green as they did.

Nabil took the moment to get at the dot while Paradox was struggling with themselves, but Idris hopped on top of Nabil as they both jumped for the red dot at once. Before either fusion could think, Nabil and Idris are now fighting with each other rather childishly.

Andrés used magic to teleport up to the dot to get to it, but the dot had already moved when they did. Noel also teleported her way to the dot where it is now, but she also failed.

Princess Nillacream seemed tempted to jump at the dot, as she stared at it with dilated eyes. It didn't matter though, since Nalix jumped in front of her to get at the dot first, only to have the dot moved as Nalix jumped into the wall.

By the time Kaneko had finally gotten a chance to jump at the dot, all the other cat fusions jumped for the dot at once, overcrowding the glitched cat. Kaneko got so stressed by it that Kane's glitch set off, pushing all the other cats back in a combustion of red pixels. Kaneko, who is now no longer being bothered, places both sets of hands over the dot, but they are surprised to find the dot won't stay under their hands.

And that is the scenario D is dealing with so far XD

What are the Nala fusions' reactions to seeing Nala and Distortia's backstory and memory flashbacks?

(They will feel incredible pain when witnessing Distortia's memory flashbacks. Especially their head and chest, since she carved a broken heart to kill herself. Even though nothing is physically happening to their chest.)

Idris is feeling the pain twice as intensely! These visions are triggering Steep's defect, causing Idris to not only see Distortia's memories and feel the carvings, but they are also getting the sharpest headache as they hear loud skittering and they feel their chest tightening. Idris' eyes went from green, to flashing yellow warning signs as Idris' faints. Technically, this successfully suppressed Distortia, but it required twice the pain.

Nabil yells in pain. Florence does his best to help Nala suppress Distortia, but his chest hurts badly. Even worse than when he first got cursed with his glitch.

Andrés didn't give too much of a physical response to the pain, but Lucas was tearing up from the pain. He is very good at keeping his reactions at a minimum, but Andrés tears were shedding. Andrés didn't like seeing the visions either. Even for him, this was seeing too much...

Malice Barbshard, oh god! This is hurting ME!!! You are hurting little me!!!- Malice Barbshard is crying, but she isn't yelling or screaming; at most, she is whining. Mercy is used to having cuts inflicted on her, but this is still unpleasant and painful!

Nalix is grunting in pain. Felix tries to fix the pain with their hammer, but this is not something that could be physically healed. They continue to grunt in pain, collapsing to their knees as Nala tries to suppress Distortia.

Paradox is in agony, as their computer monitor glitches badly. Bo's eyes are blinding the lower eyes of the fusion with tears, and Bls' mouth is roaring. The giant cat fusion is thrashing about, knocking things down violently. I am very sure Nala is actually glad Bls and Bo are feeling this though!

Back when I was writing the blog entry for Five Dreams at Night 1.16, I got a request to cover the ripping work of andrés - who just so happened to be behind that day's rip. I added some writing detailing a bit further how noticable andrés' touch of quality really is, but since then I've wished to be able to cover this a bit further in-depth. Well, today is that day, as we revisit both andrés and the legendary underwater cosmonaut himself - Masked Wolf.

As covered in Knowledge of the Depths, Astronaut in the Ocean by Masked Wolf is a rather infamous meme on the channel that first started appearing in Season 5. Its origins as a meme were ironic as soon as it first began on TikTok, mashing the song up poorly on purpose to catch people off guard - PERFECT SiIva material, in other words. And so it was - Astronaut in the Ocean became this entity to watch out for during your time on the channel, an agent of chaos that completely disregarded all standard practice in making good mashups. Not quite as reviled as LADY, not nearly as beloved as Wood Man - I'd argue that right now, Masked Wolf is the closest we have to an anti-hero on the channel. And while I can't speak for everybody, overtime I've grown really attached to the ridiculous song he's attached to

There's a fine line to walk when masking Astronaut in the Ocean rips, because you never want it to sound too good - the trashiness of Tiktok and pop music is inherently tied to the meme, after all. That lack of polish is, ironically, part of what makes Snow halocean so damn appealing. It knows the role of these Snow Halation rips, to celebrate and effective inaugurate figments as mainstays on the channel, yet also knows to not betray the meme's true spirit. It gets so close to sounding genuinely listenable in several parts, as it never desyncs, pitch-shifts to the Snow Halation melody occasionally, and brings a unique trap-esque vibe to the song. But cracks form several times in the rip in a way that feel extremely deliberate - stretched vocals, the slight glitching of the snowflakes, the sometimes unclear vocals...be they intentional or not, it adds to the aesthetic of the song so perfectly.

While it feels a bit like I'm praising and making fun of the rip at the same time, what I'm getting at here is that andrés and ChickenSuitGuy did a phenomenal job representing the joke in all its glory. Its a delightfully fun listen and a trip down memory lane for anyone who was there during Season 5, and all the laughter this stupid meme brought us. The dumbass TikTok text featured in the video seal the deal for me, and convinces me that the rip was at least somewhat meant to be rough around the edges. Funny enough, the bar for the Astronaut was so low that people still celebrated in the comments over having the song even sync up with what its mashed up with at all. There's something beautiful about that, isn't there?
