Underforest-Chapter 4

"Child, put the berries down now, and drink the water." She said to me very calmly and cautiously, as if I had just picked up a snake that could kill her. I sat the berries down on a log nearby and drank the water flowing from a stream nearby. "W-what was that berry? Why are you so scared?" She paced back and forth, biting her nails as if they were the most delicious steak on the planet. "Child, those berries are heavily toxic, and would've killed you in minutes if you hadn't drunk that water." She explained. My eyes became wide at the sound of that. Oh God damn it- Not a second too soon, I fainted right there on the spot.

The awful dreams returned, worse than before. This time, I was the victim. Mercilessly, they tortured me, they killed me. It felt like my world was splitting apart. I called out for help, in the dream world and in the real world (I assumed), but nobody came. Then, after an awful experience of being roasted alive, the world faded away to a small, orange and purple flower. Flowey. The flower turned around, smiled, and said "Howdy!" in a pleasant manner. "Wh-what do you want…?" The flower giggled, and it's face morphed into a human with almost the same face as me, but it had pink blush, and it had a wide smile on its face.

"Aw come on, can't I appear in your dreams every so often, friend?" I shook myself hard, my eyes avoiding the face. "No… NO! You are not welcome here! I yelled at the top of my lungs. "LEAVE ME ALONE, YOU CREEP!" The flower shuffled back, as if taken aback by my choice of words. It quickly changed its face back to the smile. "Fine. But I will be back. I need those souls after all… haha."

The flower disappeared, the world went white, and I woke up. "Oh!" I heard Toriel's voice beside me. "Thank goodness, she's awake! Quickly, Froggit, get her some water." I heard a ribbit as I sat up in bed, only to open my eyes to a large frog sitting on me. "AAAAAA!!" The frog jumped back in surprise, and the cup on its head flipped several times before landing beside me. "O-oh! Froggit, as amazing as that was, we do not surprise people!" I groaned and looked over at Toriel. "What happened…?"

"My child, you seemed to have eaten some poisonous berries.” Toriel said while looking at me. “I am sorry that I have not warned you that some of the berries here are poisonous.” She smiled brightly, "The important thing is that you're okay." Yeah… Anyways. I tried to get up, but she stopped me. “Child, I don’t want you to risk it. The poison may still be in there. Allow me to heal you for a bit.” I nodded, sat back down, and let her heal me.

(Five hours, twenty two minutes, and 4 glasses of water later…)

Toriel had gone to sleep, and the Froggit and Whimsun had left. I sat there, lying in bed, wishing I could leave. Maybe… there is a way. I slowly got up from bed and tiptoed to Toriel’s room making sure she was still asleep. I snuck out through the front door, past the Froggit in the living room (how it got in, I didn't know), and into the woods. Behind Toriel's house, I found a path, as well as a large archway made of a strange stone. What is this place? "My child. You should not have come." I turned around slowly, only to see Toriel with a somber look, and flames hovering over her hands. “T-toriel?” 

“I know what you have been planning, my child.” I think back to all my attempts to leave. Suddenly, a fireball spins at me. I don't have fast enough reflexes, and I get hurt. Another hits me and….Suddenly everything goes black. Did I faint again? I wake up in front of Toriel's house, and it's still nighttime. What…? Interested. I wondered if I could go back at any time. I went inside the house, then thought with all my heart about going back. It worked, and when I opened my eyes, I was in front of the house. But what exactly happened? When the fireball hit me, did I faint? Did Toriel pick me up and drop me out of the house? But that wouldn’t explain me being able to go back. I put my hand on the door knob but then I heard that maniacal laugh again. I turned around but nothing was there. But then pain shot through me and everything went black again. What happened? Then I heard a voice. The voice of that flower talking about being god. I woke up in front of Toriel's house again and immediately opened the door and went inside. What is happening? This can’t be normal. 

Too confused to figure this out, I ran back to the archway, ignoring the sinking feeling I felt. I ran through the archway, only to be stopped immediately by Toriel. “My child, where are you going?” I was too scared to answer. “You don’t need to speak. I know you want to leave the ruins.” I was going to say something but then she interrupted me. “But I can't let you leave….It’s too dangerous out there.” “Why is it too dangerous?” I asked. “The monsters outside of these ruins will…want to kill you.”  “Why will they want to kill me?” Toriel then laughed softly. “You are very curious! You remind me of somebody….” 

“But….you don’t need to know that…just go back to my home.” I really wanted to know. “But-” Toriel interrupted me. “No buts. Go back to my home NOW.” I stood my ground. “No.”

“Every child who has come, and passed. They all were killed by ASGORE. If you leave… you may be next. Are you willing to risk that?” We were silent, before I looked up. “Yes.” She summoned large fireballs around her. “Then prove yourself.” She spoke with a determination I had never seen before. Toriel then threw the fireballs at me and I attempted to dodge it but one hit me. “Oof!” 

“I don't want to fight you, Toriel!” She didn’t say anything. I dodged another couple of fireballs. “I won’t fight you!” Again, nothing. Another couple of fireballs appeared, and I zipped, ducked, and slid under them. “I won’t!” Toriel looked…confused? “What are you doing?” She attacks me more, with a string of fire balls. “Fight or run away!” She continues to attack, and I continue to not fight. “Stop it.” “Go away!” “...” “I know you want to go home, but please..go back...” 

“We can have a good life here.” 

“Why are you making this so difficult?!”

“...”

“Haha, pathetic, is it not? I cannot even save a single child. No, I understand. It would be difficult to raise you here. The Ruins are very small once you get used to them. My expectations, my fear…”

“Child. Promise me this. Stay safe out there. Don’t be like the others that left me. They met an awful fate… but I believe you have the power to change this land forever.” She smiled one last time, hugged me, and went home, leaving me to the archway.

Jealousy [Skephalo]

I felt like actually trying to write something today. This time, I didn't improvise for 20 minutes. This features a jealous Skeppy who has recently moved in with a certain someone... Hope you enjoy! :P

Oh my god, no. I am not. This is not happening right now. Zak cringes at himself, wondering how his feelings got him roped into this kind of situation.

Zak has been Darryl's roommate for a couple of weeks now, and it's probably one of the best decisions he ever made. Darryl as a roommate is amazing and so much fun to have around. Their friendship has gotten a lot stronger as they grew closer. It made Zak really happy, and yet really REALLY anxious.

Zak didn't want to admit it, but he knows that he really likes Darryl. As he spent more time around him, his crush for his best friend has only gotten stronger. Zak figures that Darryl would never reciprocate those feelings, so he tries his best to ignore the butterflies in his stomach whenever they interact. It hurts a little, but it's for the sake of their friendship. He can usually hide those feelings with ease.

But apparently, that's not the case at all today.

Zak is sitting on the couch, glaring in slight annoyance at what's next to him. He's been trying to get Darryl's attention for the past couple minutes, but it's proven to be difficult. He's been cooing at his little rat for the past hour and every time he'd try to talk to him, he would only give short responses and go back to smooching his dog. Zak groans, embarrassed while thinking to himself. I can't believe I'm feeling like this all because of a dog. This is so stupid, I'm being an idiot!

Darryl giggles as Rat covers his face in slobber. "Heehee! Awww! I love you! I love youuuu!" Zak's face slightly flushes as he pouts, suppressing the urge to scowl. Darryl looked up at Zak and notices his facial expression. "You doing alright, Zak?" Zak's eyes widen as he turned away to hide the fact that his face was getting redder, panicking a bit before giving an answer.

"Uh- I-I'm bored! I think I'm gonna stream in a minute. Wanna join me?" Darryl's eyes perk up, "Oooh! Of course you fatty, I'll join you!" He picks Rat up to his face and smiles. "I'll hop on to Minecraft in a sec." He nuzzles his dog's nose, "I'm taking this little cutie right here with me! Yes I am!" Zak twitched as he forced a smile and a laugh, "Hahaha, yeah..." He quickly stands up, "I'm just gonna go to my room and.. set up."

Darryl raises an eyebrow as Zak hurries to his room. Shrugging, he picks up his dog and goes to his own room to get ready.

The stream has been going on for over an hour and currently they were doing a 1v1 bed wars. Right now, the score is tied and whoever wins next takes it all. Zak would love to settle the score once and for all, but....

"Aww thank you for the kisses! I love you! Yes I do! Yes I dooo!" Zak felt his eye twitch as he growls under his breath. He decided to look at his chat.

"Baaaaaad! Are we going to finish this game or not?!" Darryl raised a brow again, sensing a hint of annoyance in his voice. "Hold your muffins Skeppy!" He giggled, "I think Rat wants to go for a walk."

Zak muted his mic as he covers his face and lets a groan of frustration out. "Alright. Skeppy, Imma head out for a moment. I need to take her for walksies. Okay?" Zak unmutes his mic and giggles a bit, "Walksies?" "Yehes, walksies!" Zak rolled his eyes and smiled, "Okay! Okay, just go so that you could hurry back!" "Alright! Relax you muffin head! I'll be right back." Darryl and his dog walk out of the room. Zak stays silent for a moment until he lets out a frustrated sigh and smiles. "Oh my god he triggers me so much sometimes."

He laughs as he continues on with his mini rant with a smile. "I love dogs as much as the next guy and his dog is absolutely adorable, but Bad is really getting on my nerves. Ahaha! You guys should've seen him! He's cute and all, but he was barely paying any attention to me for the entire day!" Zak continued rambling until he slowly came to a stop. He processed and realized what he said out loud... on stream.

Oh no, he even has webcam on. They can probably see how red his face is right now! Before the chat could freak out any more than it already has, Zak abruptly ended the stream. He has one hand on his face and the other on his chest as he tries to calm down. "...Shit."

"Oh my goodness Skeppy, did you do something?" Darryl muttered under his breath, coming back from walking Lucy. He is looking at his phone blowing up with notifications from Twitter. Opening the door he was surprised to see Zak sitting on the couch. "Oh hey, um. What's going on? Why aren't you in your room?" Zak slightly looked away from him, "I ended the stream." "Wait what?" Is this why my Twitter is blowing up? "Aww, but I didn't even get to say goodbye to everyone. Why did you end without me?" Zak crosses his arms a bit, "Just.. didn't feel like streaming." Okay, that's it. "Zak, you're acting weird."

"Wh- I'm acting weird?! You're weird! I don't know what you're talking about! I'm not acting weird!" Darryl observes Zak for a moment. He looks... nervous? He decides to look at Twitter for answers, something must've happened. In the meantime, he also brings up everything else that's been going on.

"Yes, you are! You've been acting strange all day! This afternoon, you couldn't stop staring at me with Rat. Then, during the stream you sounded annoyed every time I talked to Rat. And now, you're acting like a muffin! And oh my goodness why is my phone-" Darryl cut off as he stares at his phone wide eyed as he looked through all the messages saying the exact same thing. "...Bad?"

"I love dogs as much as the next guy-" "WAIT BAD NO! DON'T LISTEN TO IT!"

Zak tries to grab his phone away, but to no avail as Darryl puts it out of his reach.

"He's cute and all, but he was barely paying any attention to me for the entire day!"

Darryl's face heats up after hearing the clip. His mind processes what he heard and what he knows, and put the pieces together. Zak stood still, face turning red. "D-Darryl, it's not what you-" "Were you actually..." Giggles start to pour out from him. "You were jealous of my dog?!" "nO I WASN'T!" Zak's voice cracked which only made Darryl start to have a laughing fit.

Zak swore that his stomach did a flip. Too flustered to even look at him, he hides his face in his hoodie sleeves, lightly laughing because of his friend cracking up. "Oh my god, shut up!" Darryl tried to muffle his own laughter but to no avail. "I'm so- I'm sorryheeheeHA!" Zak whined feeling his face heat up even more in embarrassment. "I'm done. I'm so done. I'm walking away from you now." "Nononono wait! Wahahait!" Darryl wraps Zak into a hug as his giggles die down.

"Oh my goodness, that was adorable." Zak let out a muffled groan. "No it wasn't, it was so stupid!" Darryl grins and took a moment to look at the small boy hiding his face against his shoulder. It's so rare for him to ever see Zak like this. He wanted it to last a little longer. "Awe... I'm sorry I made you jealous geppy." He chuckled, gently cupped Zak's face in his hands, and said in the most sincere voice he could muster. "You know you'll always be my little muffin."

And Zak thought he couldn't be flustered more than he already is.

Zak froze as he was left speechless. Staring into his green eyes, he feels like his own heart was going to leap out of his chest. Darryl slightly looks away from him, suddenly nervous about Zak's silence, face turning pink from embarrassment. "U-Um.. Zak? I-I really-"

Darryl yelped as he was suddenly tackled onto the couch. Zak started to laugh as he trapped him in his arms. "Skeppy! Let go of me!" He only laughed more at the fact his minecraft name was used. "No, and you can't make me badboyhalo!" Darryl tried to escape from his clutches, but nope he's definitely stuck here. "Dang it Zak, why?!" Zak leaned in closer to his chest and mumbled, "If I'm your muffin, that means you're also mine, and I'm not letting go."

He could feel Darryl's heartbeat speed up. Zak beamed brightly as he heard Darryl become a flustered stuttering mess. "I-I Za- Wh- I-... ohmygoodness." Zak giggled as Darryl sighed and also wrapped his arms around him. He chuckled to himself. What did I get myself into?

Hours has passed and it's in the middle of the night. The small dog walked into the living room and wagged her tail at the sight. Her owner and her new friend were sleeping on the couch together. Their arms were still slightly wrapped around each other. She hopped onto the couch, finding a spot beside them, made herself comfortable, and drifted to sleep.

It’s so good!!!!! It’s so good!!!!! IT’S SO INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!

Oh wow, how to name off all the things I loved about it??? Well...... there are SO MANY amazing things about your fic, because it was utter PERFECTION, but here are a few:

1. Your OCs are so fun!!!!! All of them feel so real and lived-in, and I love how they all have their own personalities and flavors and each of them plausibly feel like they COULD be actual Star Wars characters. I especially love how they lack the knowledge that we the readers have, and so they each offer a good amount of worldbuilding through their perspectives as well. (Rana’s a particular favorite. So prickly yet so determined and kind!!!)

2. I enjoy the outsider POV!!!! Outsider POVs always provide interesting and oftentimes funny or depressing insights into main characters, and the way you did it was an absolute home run!!!! I /love/ how the POV here establishes the legend of Luke Skywalker so effectively, and how it REALLY helps show why Jedi were so revered in the SW world

3. I LOOOOOVE your characterization of Luke!!!! GOD, the Luke you have here is so awesome and compelling and absolutely enrapturing. He’s so earnestly, unironically kind, hopeful, optimistic, sweet, and upbeat, and he is so grounded and human, but he also has this wisdom and power and ethereal quality to him that makes him feel angelic and holy and maybe even a little bit spooky, all in a way that makes him feel a little MORE than human, in the absolute best of ways. And the way you explored his heritage as the son of a slave??? How you wrote his tempered rage and righteous fury??? GLORIOUS

4. The way you write action is so clear and dynamic!!!! Holy cow, I was on the edge of my seat during all of those scenes!!! In a strange way, I think my favorite action scenes were the ones where Luke used the Jedi mind trick on the troopers. It was written so evocatively, so clearly, and I love how it captures the almost eerie quality of that particular technique

5. Also, as always, your writing style is utterly beautiful. Smooth and clear, and it flows like water. You have the perfect sense of pacing, and it’s SO easy to immerse myself into the stream of your words. You have incredible timing, and you know the perfect way to drop these emotional, revelatory bombs of prose that just sweep the breath out of my lungs

Just... what an utter gem of a story. What a blessing. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING IT WITH US!!!!!

ok don't mind me but I'm going to go scream for the next 500 years AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm actually tearing up. this means so much because this fic was kinda out of my comfort zone just bc of how different it is. and I was super nervous about my OCS and characterizations and stuff like that but also proud of it do hearing that you liked my OCS and luke in it is amazing! also I feel like I suck at writing action but to hear that you liked it just means the world to me. I really don't have the words but just know that you made my night and I can't thank you enough for all your support 🥺🥺

Tell me ALL your SW faves

Aaaaaa thank you!  This took a while cuz this got long, lol sorry!  Aight, so here’s ALL my SW faves for this ask prompt list!

FAVE MOVIE: Revenge of the Sith.  10000%.  It just has everything!  You get to see the Obikin relationship in all its glory, first and foremost, how much those two loved each other more than anything and knew each other better than anyone, and just how much they genuinely got along and then we got our hearts broken watching them have to fight after Anakin made his Goof Of The Millennium and just oooooof all the feels about my boys!  Seeing Padmé and just loving her so gotdang much for being strong and wanting the best life for everyone, all while she was so scared and had so little support from anyone, and just couldn’t do it in the end.  Seeing the end of the Republic, how after a thousand years, just, *poof*, just like that in like two days (yes, I know Sidious was planning it for over a decade but still), the horrific fascination on how Sidious was able to do that.  Just the brilliance of Sheev’s character, how you despise him, but how brilliantly everything was pulled off.  The angst of Order 66, how especially after TCW you love these characters SO MUCH and then you gotta watch them DIE HORRIBLY BY THOSE THEY TRUSTED, THOSE WHO NEVER HAD A CHOICE EITHER.  Did I mention feeling so freaking bad for Obi Wan and his Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day???  Because I really do, he’s so good and kind and we see his life fall apart and ugh I love him.  And y’all, watching Anakin Skywalker fall from grace like the brightest angel he was, you hate him for what he did, but you still can’t help but love him and cry for him and his loss because he was so good, and he did not deserve all this to happen to him but he did it to HIMSELF AAAAGGHHHH.  Also, Obes and Ani were at peak prettiness this movie!!  Just asdfkjglkdskajsrlk best movie love so diggity dang much

FAVE PAIRING: Oh, how EVER will I choose– Obikin.  It’s Obikin, all the way, no contest.  I know I’ve yelled about it a million and one times so I’ll save y’all the rant on how much I adore these disasters and their relationship and how I think they’re goddamn soulmates and the most interesting dynamic in the entire Saga.  I ship them romantically and platonically and just everything, they’re so fucking important to one another and that’s why it hurts so much to watch them fall apart, and that’s why I’m so incredibly happy that they get to canONICALLY SPEND THEIR ENTIRE AFTERLIFE TOGETHER BECAUSE FORCE GHOSTS HELL YEAH.  If I had to pick just secondary fave romantic and platonic relationships, hmmmm that’s hard.  BUT, I’m gonna have to go with Kanera for romantic; SWR was what got me back into Star Wars and one of my favorite parts of it was watching Kanan and Hera, how much I loved them separately, but just how much they were a team together and I love them and I was unbelievably upset when Jedi Night happened (and I still have a rant about how animated Star Wars kills off their romantic couples in the exact same manner, pls ask me about how TCW’s The Lawless and Rebels’ Jedi Night had basically all of the same plot points that ended in killing off a romantic lead).  For other fave platonic relationship, gonna have to go with Luke/Han/Leia BROT3 (separate from Hanleia as a romance, which is probs my 3rd fave).  These disasters were the original Golden Trio, they saved the galaxy together all while yelling dramatically and having each other’s backs to the bitter end (or, at least ‘till the end of ROTJ lol) and I just love them as a team so dang much

FAVE TV SHOW EPISODE: Okay, since there are four TV shows, it’s only fair for me to pick one (or more don’t judge me) from each!  Let’s see, from The Clone Wars, my fave eps have to be the entire Mortis trilogy arc in S3 because Obes/Ani/Snips family dynamic, Force Shenanigans, BEAUTIFUL scene designs, Anakin angst, just so many good things oof, and also Dooku Captured from S1, which I just adore because Obikin snark, annoying Grandpa Dooku, Hondo Fucking Ohnaka making everyone look so bad at their jobs, I just love it agh.  Whoops that was technically four faves, so gotta do four for Rebels too!  Gonna go wiiiiith World Between Worlds from S4 for Badass Ahsoka Tano, Ezra being brave and talented, Sheev being Absolutely Ridiculous, and just the overall Force Shenanigans cuz canon time travel y’all; The Lost Commanders from S2 because Rex is awesome, Kanan angst, and really good Kanan and Ezra bonding and Jedi awesomeness, Fire Across the Galaxy from S1 because of Ghost fam dynamics, Kanan angst, more Kanan and Ezra bonding, and just good stuff, and Twilight of the Apprentice in S2 (lol what about my username?) for being creepy and cool and maKING ME CRY ANAKIN YOU STUPID THRICE COOKED TOILET SEAT LEAVE AHSOKA ALONE.  *cough*  Ok, fine, I’ll stick with only one ep for the other two series.  For Resistance, gonna have to go with the latest ep, actually!  We get to see Kaz being clever and caring about his fam on the Colossus, really cool designs for Aeos and its people, Tam angst, and just everyone shining!  For The Mandalorian, it’s gotta be the finale, Redemption, we get Din name, Armorer kicking everyones asses and me loving it, BABY YODA DOING THE HAND WAVE, Din getting over his issues with droids and connecting with IG only for IG to FUCKING DIE, DIN AND BABY YODA BEING AN OFFICIAL CLAN OF TWO, Taika just knocking this whole episode out of the park with the funny scouttroopers at the beginning who still deserved the ass-whooping they got for fucking murdering Kuiil and hiTTING BABY YODA YOU SLIMY FUCKNUGGETS–

FAVE CHARACTER: Alright, look, I can narrow it down to FIVE and that is IT.  I just love too many Star Wars characters, I can’t go lower than top five!  Ok, so my four favorites are Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Leia Organa, Kanan Jarrus, and Finn Skywalker-Dameron-Tico (i SAID what i SAID.)  AIGHT so for starters, a lot of my favorite characters in different franchises fall under various archetypes I have for faves.  Obi Wan fits one of my more popular ones: “Old, reluctant and more than slightly-questionable parental badass with a mysterious past that makes you love them all the more when you realize just how beautiful and tragic and deserving-better they were when that past is revealed”.  I latched onto this dude from the start when I just liked the OT (tho Leia was always my fave lol), and I wanted to know about him, and then when I finally started getting into the PT and TCW, it was just a steady stream of “oh no he’s hOT?” “oh no he’s sAD?” “oh no he’s nICE?!? REALLY FUCKING NICE AND A BIT OF A MESS HELP” and then I just totally latched on because he’s hypercompetent at literally everything and looks damn good doing it and boy do I have a thing for competence, charming as all hell and goes through so much and comes out strong despite the fact that fate hates his fucking guts and tries to destroy his life constantly and guys he tries so hard and he’s kind of messy sometimes and a bit of a dick and I love him all the more for it because he’s trying, none of that do-or-do-not shit, he is doing his damn best and deserves happiness and not Anakin tearing him apart.  SPEAKING OF SAND MAN.  Ugh, so I love Anakin to fucking death and that makes me REALLY MAD ABOUT IT BECAUSE HE MAKES EVERYONE ELSE I LIKE SAD.  So I love Anakin regardless because he’s not your typical protagonist.  He’s fucking brilliant, hot when he fights, is amazing at fighting and flying and building stuff and there’s that competence thing for me again, oh boy!  He’s funny and kind and he cares.  And somehow, this bitch manages to have the two most beautiful, amazing people in the galaxy in love with him and willing to do basically anything for him like the fuck?!?  Jealous much??!?!?!?!  I am!!!!  He’s so fucking bright and it’s impossible to look away.  He’s also a dorky, messy disaster who’s not good with people or feelings or emotions and he panics over stuff and doesn’t know self-control and is kinda really bad at his job a lot and pushes away the people who care about him and screws up literally all the fucking time and he always feels like he’s drowning and alone and I get to watch him crash and burn under the weight of it all.  Basically, minus the anger issues and the child murder and the murder in general, I kinda relate a lot to Anakin.  I feel like a self-hating mess who doesn’t know how to control my ow head and the world hates me a lot too.  I can project my mental issues onto him, enjoy the good parts of him, live vicariously through the things he does that I can’t like be loved by pretty people and be hot and athletic and smart, and then when he crashes I can side-eye and remember that at least someone’s doing worse than me lol.  So yea, I love this messy boi to death and he’s the one I get the best characterization reviews on, so I guess we have an understanding.  Leia I loved since as a kid.  I’d want to be her, brave, talented, smart, strong as hell and snarky to boot.  I realize that Leia fits another fave character archetype of mine: “Powerful young adult raised for greatness, did not ask for all the horrible shit that’s happened to them, highkey wants a break and for the bad guys to just roll over and die, is generally clever, hypercompetent, and 100% done with everyone else’s shit, overdramatic as all hell and enjoys insulting people”.  Her and Han were my first Star Wars ship and she just always made me happy seeing her kick names and take ass.  She’s gone through almost as much hell or maybe more so than Obi Wan, she also keeps getting back up and fighting, she deserved SO MUCH BETTER than what the Sequel Trilogy gave her and you may quote me on that.  She’s also gorgeous and I wanted to wear all of her clothes (bikini not included).  I also love her relationship with Luke and I am so goddam happy it is now canon that Leia Organa did Jedi training and can use a lightsaber!!!  She has a lightsaber!!!!!!!!!!  Ugh oof I love her.  Kanan fills the similar “mentor” archetype as Obi Wan does, but with a smidge of youth because he’s younger when he gets dropped into this role.  He’s more of a punk, more of a mess, and oof.  Basically I’ve said it a zillion times how Rebels resparked my love of Star Wars, but really, it was Kanan on the screen that did it.  It happened when the Rebels season 3 premiere eps ended up on the TV and I saw it and I thought in order 1. holy shit that Maul fucker’s actually alive? and 2. Oh no sad blind Jedi man!  He’s cool and mysterious and I want to know why he’s sad and who made him sad and also want to give him a hug!!!  He was my fave character all throughout Rebels and his training dynamic with Ezra, struggling to help this kid all while flying by the seat of his pants because he had Issues and no clue what he was doing and no support and ugh, he was smart and brave and I’m so sad he’s dead and yea.  Finn!!!!  Last but not least!!!!  He was my favorite character from The Force Awakens.  People have said it before, but he was just so new, a rebel Stormtrooper stolen and brainwashed at birth, finding the good guys and fighting to do the right thing!  Possibly Force Sensitive!  Super duper cute!!!  Funny and kind, dammit, when not many other people in the galaxy were!!!!!!!!  I was so, so sure Finn was gonna be a Jedi along with Rey at some point, that might have been my biggest letdown when I saw TLJ, but ugh I just loved his enthusiasm and his war within himself, ultimately loving his friends and trying to do what was right at the risk to his own safety, even though that was why he ran scared in the first place!!!!!  I shipped him with Rey and with Poe and now I am NOT above the post TROS Jedistormpilot shipping!!!!!  Finn was just always the most interesting part of the Sequel Trilogy for me and I personally feel like they could have done more with his character.

FAVE ACTOR/ACTRESS: Aight, so I try my best not to “stan” anyone famous because literally no one is perfect and everyone’s done something problematic at some point and if I dare say I like a famous figure, someone’s gonna find something about them and come after me all “OMG THIS PERSON DID/SAID/IS X YOU MONSTER GO DIE!!11!!1″.  In terms of performance, I think all the actors in Star Wars did a lovely job and I’m happy with all of them!  If I had to crush on any, it would probs be Ewan McGregor, John Boyega, or Diego Luna cuz, uh, they hot.  If I had to pick one I liked most, it would honestly probs be Carrie Fisher.  Maybe that’s just partially from missing her now that she’s gone, but I really admire her advocacy and transparence for mental health, and she just seemed like such a funny, kind, strong person.

FAVE PLANET: Aight, this is HARD and I refuse to only pick one planet!  Ok, gonna start off with Coruscant because an endless city planet made up of lights is amazingly gorgeous and it has a Jedi Temple stacked on top of a Sith Temple and is just so cool aaaaa.  Also love Felucia just for being so bright and colorful and pretty.  Mortis for being just as weirdly gorgeous and also Weird Force Shit.  Lothal for the beautiful mountains, the wolves, and the fucking lightspeed center of the planet passage what, Dathomir is delightfully creepy to look at, Crait is really cool with the salt and the red and the ice foxes, Kashyyyk because Wookiees and it’s pretty and I love their treehouses.  Basically if it makes me clap my dumb monkey hands and go “oooh pretty!”, I love it.  The more “not like Earth” it is, the more I love it.

FAVE SPECIES: Hmmmmm, this is a tough one…….  There’s just so many cool-looking species that we know so little about, ya know?  I wanna say either Togrutas or Wookiees.  Togrutas just because the character design is incredible and so fun to work with and also I love Ahsoka, and Wookiees because they have such an interesting culture and backstory and also I want to give Chewbacca a hug.

FAVE CONCEPT: Uhhh, not quite sure I get the question; you mean like just story concept in general?  If that’s it, I’m gonna have to go with just the whole concept of the Force and the Jedi in general.  I mean George, George my man, what the fuck?  How the hell did you come up with this?!?  Mystical psychic space wizards with magic abilities to connect with and use the sentient godlike life force that combined the entire galaxy together.  Oh and also they have COLORFUL GLOWING LASER SWORDS?!?!?  It’s honestly one of the most creative things I’ve seen in popular culture, and that makes me sad that Star Wars now seems to be trying to separate itself from what I think is its most interesting quality because “ugh not EVERYTHING should be about the Jedi guys!”, when like, y’all, without the Jedi, the entire SW universe is basically just another military scifi war story……  Just my opinion tho.

FAVE SHIP: Ok, since pairing was already up there, I assume this means actual ship?  Well, uh, gonna have to be square with y’all, I’m a bad Star Wars fan for this part; I’ve never been the one to memorize ship names and designs and know the exact make and model number of some fancy ship, I’m real bad at that lol.  I’ll say my favorite ship is the Ghost.  Hera flies it and the Rebels Fam lives on it and it’s super cool and it makes me happy!

FAVE WEAPON: LIGHTSABER.  LIGHTSABER LIGHTSABER.  LIGHTSABERLIGHTSABERLIGHTSABERLIGHTSABERLIGHTSABER.  Y’all, c’mon, what did you think I was gonna pick? xD  Lizard brain want glowy shiny colorful big stick that goes whoosh!

FAVE BACKGROUND EXTRA: Again, not entirely sure what this means, but do you mean fave background character?  If so, then it’s a tie between Wilrow Hood and his ice cream machine for the memes, that one clone in TCW who yeets a plate of toast at Cad Bane’s face, or that one background soldier who scoots between Han and Leia arguing in ESB and also Hera and Kanan arguing in Rebels (yes I do headcanon it’s the same guy lol)

FAVE MOMENT/SCENE: This one’s actually pretty easy.  Anakin dying in Luke’s arms in ROTJ, and then his ghost showing up to Luke later at the Ewok party.  I just care so ridiculously much about stupid Anakin and his stupid story and mistakes, and even before I was a prequels stan and had only seen the OT (and wasn’t a huge Vader fan, believe it or not), some part of me just felt so solemn, so fragile watching this, watching the giant monstrous machine falling apart as he fades away to reveal a weary, tired old human man, and it always made me wonder, what the hell happened to him to turn him into that thing?  Seeing that young, beautiful man, basically Luke’s age, showing up as a ghost later, just the fascination, the tender look he shared with Old Ben, just how young he was, that made it all the more mysterious and knowing what I do now, it’s just so much better because my poor, horrible Disaster Man finally did the right thing and he finally found peace and it’s just the only ending I could be happy for Anakin with,  And Luke, I always felt so bad for Luke, being so strong, so brave, finally getting his father back for like five damn minutes and then having to lose him again and just hurting for him but also knowing that it was gonna be okay because Luke had more family now, the ghosts, and Han and Leia and Chewie and R2 and 3PO and Lando and everyone.

FAVE KISS: Luke and Leia (HANG ON LET ME SPEAK) forehead kiss in The Last Jedi.  I know (this one) isn’t meant as romantic, and I know the question is probs about a romantic one and I know that it’s not even a real mouth kiss.  But.  That Luke and Leia scene was my favorite part of the entire movie.  Again, I was missing Carrie a lot, and ugh, after all these years, after not getting to interact the entire previous movie and not at all during this movie, the ONE scene with Carrie and Mark and the pure emotion of it all just knocked me out of my fucking seat.  You could see how connected they were as siblings, how much Leia had missed Luke, how much he had missed her and how sorry he was for leaving, sorry for Ben, sorry for having to leave her again now, Leia knowing Luke was about to die, and just, acceptance.  Love and acceptance.  It was just a final, tender kiss on the forehead, and it was perfect and yeah.  If I do have to pick a romantic lip smooch, it’s probably the Hanleia classic “scoundrel” kiss in Empire Strikes Back.  I still remember watching ESB the first time as a KID and being all eeeeeeee are they gonna– YES they kissed they kissed they kissed finally! and that’s enough for me.

FAVE FIGHT: Obi Wan and Anakin on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith.  WIthout question.  It’s brilliantly and precisely choreographed to show the intricate nuances of the Obikin breakup in alllllll of its painful glory.  It breaks my heart every time I watch it because every time I watch it I still hope it’s gonna end differently.  That Anakin realizes he can’t kill Obi Wan and ditches Sidious and goes back with Obi Wan to save Padmé.  That Obi Wan realizes he can’t let Anakin die and saves him from burning and from Sidious and takes him back too.  That Obi Wan at least puts Anakin out of his misery which would be godawful painful, but would save him from the horrid life as Vader.  That while they’re fighting, a lava monster appears like in the concept art and Vader and Obi Wan have to put aside their differences and fight the thing and remember how much they mean to each other.  But ugh, this fight was beautifully choreographed and was originally supposed to be a MULTI-MINUTE SINGLE SHOT WHAT THE HELL???  Oooof Hayden and Ewan did such an amazing job and the whole thing just rips my heart out every time in the bestworst way possible

 FAVE LINE OF DIALOGUE: Now THIS is hard, I’m not the best at picking favorite lines.  Hmmm, this is HARD.  Let me think.  Gahhhh, it’s hard because I have so many lines I like and I can’t even just narrow down a couple!!!  Ultimately, it’s probably gonna be Yoda’s monologue from Empire Strikes Back: “Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter…”  Just that entire line saying how basically all of us are more than the sum of our parts, that everyone is their own sparkling light made of stardust, I loved it as a kid and I love it now.

OMG GUYS, THEY NOTICED ME AAAAAA I honestly did not expect Alan to read my comment but it made me so happy but also nervous cause I started shaking lol I joined the stream like pretty late into it because I didn’t even realize they were streaming, but I’m so happy I was even able to at all because literally all their other streams I missed sadly..

Ok so btw, if you want to get noticed in one of their streams, then from what I’ve gotten, is first of all, don’t repeat your message. I saw a couple people comment the exact same thing they said a couple minutes prior and they still didn’t get noticed unfortunately. Maybe it’s annoying, idk, but I didn’t do that, I’d say every couple of minutes or so I’d comment something different every time. I only got noticed once, but it still meant a whole lot to me, because I could tell they were trying to get to as many people as they could.

And second, don’t say the same things over and over again, I know this basically sounds like the exact same thing I said before but there’s a difference I swear. It’s kind of hard to explain but like, for example, “I love you guys!” Or, “Notice me!” Don’t say those things, and then say them again but slightly worded differently, if that makes any sense. Try saying something out of the ordinary, or completely random, then that way I feel like it will stand out more and something new and unique that will pique Miguel and Alan’s interests. But I recommend still keeping it mostly Villainous related. And I know I only commented; “Miguel I’m proud of you, you’ve improved in drawing.” But it’s slightly different than just saying something like: “You’re so good at drawing!” Or something similar. Hope you could pick up what I’m laying down.

NOW DON’T GET ME WRONG- you can say whatever you want in the chat, idc, it’s not my decision, do what you want, it’s your life. But I’m just saying, and simply stating my opinion. <3 but please, for all things good in the world, don’t comment anything mean, unsettling, or disrespectful. Like the previous stream with everyone asking for paperhat, they were obviously not comfortable with it so please don’t force it on them. Thanks! The dude is just so cool. 

Like, I opened stream once and he was just playing ukulele and im fairly certain he’d gotten side tracked but he was having fun and doing what he wanted. Which was fun to watch. Yeah I thought there’d be funky block men but funky Tubbo and guitar was better. 

Or the chess stream where he was dancing and singing and spinning in the chair, then still won. Like, he’s so good at chess and that takes brains so he’s really smart and aaaaaa.

And the skill he has as a streamer, to do those alt streams for like 6-9 hours almost everyday, then go on others streams and still bring energy (though it varies). That’s just nuts. 

I’ll push this and push this but he’s so good at lore and roleplay and aaaa. 

I’ve already said he’s smart in the chess segment but the things he talks about, apparently he talked about genetic engineering in Ranboo’s stream, are so intresting. And chat does a huge disservevice when they tell him to shut up because no. Let Tubbo be smart, let him talk about these bloody intresting things he knows about, or is learning about, or just has thoughts about.

Tommy’s reactions to everyone thinking he’s dead are understandable seeing as he has gone through yet another traumatizing situation and no one is caring a bit. They are curious first, something which (probably) reminds him of Dream claiming his death can be ‘a science experiment.’  They are constantly reminding him of this. The major changes the server has been through are unsettling

And Everyone has grieved or is still grieving. In what has been a month since Tommy was imprisoned and 11 days since he died, moving on is the natural process of time. They do not know what Tommy went through and there disbelief is at the front of their mind. This is understandable and they will need time to adjust to having him back.

Season 1 and Season 2 of the Dream SMP were written very differently to each other. 

Season 1 focused more on one plot thread about L’manberg. Everyone was in one side out of three on their view. Dream SMP, L’manberg and Pogtopia (in what I refer in my head as the second act). Each pov could have their own lil plot thread but the setting was of more importance in the freedom of the story they could tell. Eret being a traitor isn’t important because Eret’s the traitor. It’s impactful because of who is being betrayed. Character’s such as Wilbur, who used L’manberg to grow the character of course were going to come on top.

Season 2 had multiple plot threads about the aftermath as people reacted differently. Which was to be expected. This is what allows Niki to go villain, Tubbo’s difficulty as president and Dream and Tommy’s exile arc. because setting took a back seat. The story is no longer L’manbergs story but the character’s story. When Techno stopped focusing on L’manberg but governments or Dream stopped caring about L’manberg but sentiments we see a change. because L’manberg is only important If they chose for it to be important. That is why Ranboo and Techno can hold up away from L’manberg with interesting plots over in the Artic and the eggpire. There is nothing holding all the characters together for one plot. everyone can do what they want with more freedom.  It is only a suggestion

And both of these ways of writing work well in the Dream SMP. The use of Twitch allows Season 2′s style to work. It’s brilliant use of the platform. We have preferences. Okay, sure fine. I prefer Season 1′s way of writing. You can prefer season 2′s. I for one am interested in how what Season 3 will follow with the current set-up. 

What I’m trying to say here is don’t shit on the writers, be that Wilbur or Techno, Tommy, Dream and Quackity. The way the Dream SMP was written in the seasons made it just as easy for anyone to snatch the spotlight. It only seems like Wilbur did it because in the second act, he was the only person in Pogtopia (an already small group may I add) with anything big going down. I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes but that is how it has appeared to me,

Grey Morality and the DSMP

Everyone on the Dream SMP is morally gr- NO!

But they all have their own selfish motivat-SO CLOSE YET SO FAR! 

Morally Grey characters are people who do too much bad to be good AND too much good to be bad. 

Think Robin Hood. He steals Bad. He gives that money to the poor Good! 

Now let’s apply this too Dream SMP characters. 

Dream: He abused Tommy Bad. He wants the server to be united Good! So, does wanting the server to be united balance out abusing Tommy? No!

Tommy: He burnt down George’s house Bad. He takes actions to protect others. Good! Griefing is an average activity on the SMP, burning George’s house isn’t dreadful. Meanwhile he tries to protect Tubbo etc... That’s a good thing that outweighs the bad things.  This doesn’t mean Tommy is perfect. It doesn’t mean you cannot critic his actions. It just means he’s not morally grey. He’s just your average person. You don’t call the average person morally grey

Sam: Chopped off Ponk’s arm Bad! Keeps Dream in the prison and others safe away from him Good!

Is c!Sam good or bad? Does keeping dream locked up justify chopping off c!Ponks arm? That's what makes Sam morally grey.

The discussion on good v bad can go both ways without excusing the bad things, or forgetting the good.

So stop saying everyone's morally grey. Most people on this server are, Yes. Everyone is. Oh hell no.

You can still criticize and defend characters who aren't morally grey.

I keep seeing teams of just Tubbo

see, I believe that Tubbo alone could win an mcc (assuming their were 4 of him). So, like the bored person I am. I put in MCC16 teams into the reddit’s stat simulator, and replaced all of aqua with Tubbo. 

As you can see in the bottom, Aqua is indeed, all Tubbo. He could win with this order. I’d believe in him. 

In 165 runs of the simulation randomized, just Tubbo would win 19 of those times, making him the 3rd most likely team.

My inaugural post on el Super Famigos punto com! Cool beans! :D

So here's my 2016 games list. These are the games I liked most in 2016. In lieu of ranking, I'll list them in alphabetical order. I'll also add some honorable mentions, since I did enjoy them and don't want them to be left out. ;)

The List

Breath of Fire III

Fitting that the first on my list would be a SuperFamigos classic!

I picked up Bofee ("Breath of Fire III" -> "BoF III" -> "BoF3" -> "Bofee") after some prodding from my friend Chris. I’ve wanted it for a while, and even played it once, but… I don't have as much patience for JRPGs as I used to, even ones as good as Bofee or Chrono Cross. This time, though, ♪ I had a little help from my friends ♫.

Since SuperFamigos was just starting up, I downloaded OBS and gave streaming Bofee a whirl. And sure enough, broadcasting and interacting with friends via chat is way better than grinding alone. Chris shared all his expert secrets, and I flew through the slogs that stopped me before. And we spawned a whole slew of inside jokes too (oh man Teepo's flowing locks *o*). I haven't played/streamed much recently, due to a combination of old hardware and busy schedules, but with luck I can fire it back up in 2017.

As for the game itself: it's great! Top notch pixel art, animations, and music. Story's a bit slow, though Chris assures me it gets better. Definitely more fun with friends. ...smells burnt

Chrono Cross

Frickin' Chrono Cross! What a sweet game. Beautiful scenery, amazing music, and a genuinely enthralling and mysterious story. I'm still not fully sure what's going on! The battle system can be intense too: trying to fend off the Fire Dragon with only two Revives? Are you kidding me??

I must confess, I got Chrono Cross three Christmases ago. The game has a couple of the same JRPG issues that Bofee has. So my tactic is to whittle away at it, every once in a while. And it's a bit like turning down the lights and sitting back and listening to Kind of Blue on vinyl; you come away feeling well fed.

So why is Chrono Cross on my games of 2016 list? Partly because the OSSC got me hyped to play it on my new HDTV (it was disgusting before) (and it handles the 240p <-> 480i switch quite well), partly because Chris again got me through some tough parts (he’s a boss, seriously), and partly because it's an awesome game and it won't come off my "games of <year>" list until it's beaten. So there.

Downwell

I finally beat Downwell (normal mode) and unlocked all the palettes in 2016. Even then, I haven't stopped playing.

Downwell is the one mobile game I actually enjoy. For all the critically acclaimed mobile games I own, none have kept my attention like console and handheld games do. Except Downwell.

The mobile qualifier is important. Often I was chilling in a café, or waiting in line for a sandwich, or unable to sleep on a redeye flight, or trapped on a god-forsaken Snowpiercer Amtrak to Portland that was 6 hours behind schedule because snow somehow broke the signals and freight trains rule the rails and "we can't tell you if it'll be 30 minutes or 3 hours"

…Anyway. Downwell kept me sane in 2016. I don't even mind the touch controls.*

By the way, here's my fav strat: Floaty. Attract gems + popping gems + gem recharge. Laser if possible, or machine gun / burst / puncher. Combo as much as possible, but only to 25 each.

Open Source Scan Converter

I know, I know, it's not a game. But it counts as one, because it gave my PS1 a new lease on life.

And what a lease it is! I kid you not, I had serious goosebumps whenever I first fired up wipE'out" XL with this puppy. It was ｂｅａｕｔｉｆｕｌ. I noticed background textures I had never noticed before. Colors popped, not bled. I could read the menu text in wip3out! And no noticeable lag! Game after game, I was amazed at the difference. A major reason these old PS1 games are on my list is the OSSC.

Granted, YMMV; the results aren't nearly as drastic on other TVs I tried. But on mine… There's no going back.

Pokkén Tournament

Taking a step back for a sec.

Moving to Seattle was hard. It’s still hard. I live by myself, it's my first time working out of college, and sometimes even cooking food is a chore. My life has certainly gotten better now, but those first few months were…hard.

Pokkén was what I played when I wasn't at work. It's a great game, with bumpin' music and satisfying mechanics that I could really get into. But more than that, it was a game that helped me get through a rough time. For that reason alone, I would definitely recommend.

Splatoon

Whoa there. Listen up. If you haven't already guessed, this is MY list o' 2016. It doesn't matter when such-and-such game came out. If I played it in 2016, it counts.

…but you do have a point. I didn't get Splatoon until Christmas 2015, which led to me missing a good amount of the summer unveils and hype and such. And online games stress me out, so I had the most fun when I stuck to my niche: off in the corner with my paintbrush, flinging paint errywhere, firin' off torpedoes to the other side, occasionally ninja-ing peeps.

In any case, still played it enough and had fun enough to include it! Very refreshing to see some color and friendly competition in a shooter. Good music and 1P campaign too. I even picked up my first pair of Vans Slip-ons because of this game. Fashion help 10/10.

Splatoon is also one of the Famigos' go-to online games! Several times we'd host a private match and not even battle, but just hang out on the stage, swim around, go explore, etc. Kinda like what we do in real life…except as squid kids.

Until I got the OSSC, this game was literally unplayable on my new HDTV.

Okay, not literally. Seriously though, wip3out** has some of the most succulent graphic design in the industry, and that stinkin' yellow composite cable rendes it muddy, meh, and unreadable. Yuck. wip3out was the second game I tested with the OSSC, and it's easily the best demonstration of the power of upscaling.

But enough about that. wipE'out" (the series) is the beez kneez. What's not to like? Cream-of-the-crop electronic soundtrack, mouthwatering tDR design, spicy-smooth tracks, and rich chocolatey weaponry. That feeling when you tear down the track, barely grazing the wall as you unleash a Quake Disruptor…

wip3out makes my list this year, not just because of the OSSC, not just because it's a filet mignon of a game, but because I freakin' beat Venom Tournament mode for the first time. Even with unfair AI in Sampa Run! ( *｀∇ ´ ) And I plan to keep playing for a long time.

Interestingly, although XL/2097 and 3 have very different physics and handling, I can maneuver them both just fine…as long as I don't play them both in the same night. I get so used to one game, that I can't immediately swap discs and play the other without crashing into everything.

Honorable Mentions

Digimon World 3 I inherited this from a neighbor. Popped it in to admire the pixel art with the OSSC. The battle system is confusing, the FMVs are loltastic, but it has some surprisingly good music.

Hyper Light Drifter I really want to like this game more.

I love the music. And the art and atmosphere seriously gave me chills. Absolutely beautiful. But I just couldn't get into the combat: too visceral. I felt...almost dirty playing it. I understand that's kind of the point, but…

Maybe with time I'll get into it.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime Had a ball playing this at a work game night. Don't have many others to play with though.

Nuclear Throne Lol both Sam and I got the Humble Indie Bundle this year, so we both played lots of Nuclear Throne. Fun (3D glasses Eyes is my man), but a bit too stressful/addictive for me. Had to stop playing for my health.

Pokémon Black 2 I grabbed Black 2 as a birthday gift for myself (I did the same for White in 2015), and to tide me over until Pokémon Sun. To try and mix it up this time around, I played with only three Pokémon for the entirety of my run: an Ice Punch Weavile (bred in White), a Dewott, and a Growlithe. I only caught maybe another five. In the end, though, I didn't level enough and I ground to a halt at the seventh gym.

I think one of the many, many reasons I loved Pokémon Sun was that I dived in headfirst, catching Pokémon, playing minigames, getting invested. Guess I didn't do that as much with Black 2. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

That being said, Black 2 definitely has its moments. There's schweet music, and I still, still prefer the animated sprites to 3D models. (Some of the new Pokémon's models are great, but some are horrible.) Super satisfying to wreck newbs with a Ice Punch to the face. Just sadly overshadowed by Sun.***

Pokémon Emerald Lots of Pokémon on this list, huh? ;)

Got this along with a Game Boy Micro from my friend Cole. Similar with Black 2, I only used a party of four. Again, the music is top notch, and some great battle animations. Unfortunately petered out at Ever Grande City when I stopped taking the bus to/from work (my main time to play).

Seriously, so silly and fun. Didn't play it much though (maybe an hour when Sam was in town).
