Let’s not forget Native Invader’s birthday amid all the Scarlet celebration! It’s her 6th (!?) birthday. Some called this record dark and that makes sense-we were all rightfully scared of what was to come/coming after a heartbreaking and infuriating election. Add to that Tori’s mother, Mary being in increasingly poor health, you could hear death looming. Reindeer King has always had a windswept Led Zeppelin feel that calls to mind snowy mountains at night. There’s sonic spaciousness, like fast moving water under ice. The protest drive and ominous echoing of Broken Arrow carries us to strumming glide of Cloud Riders, who came from Night Of Hunters, makes me want to look at the night sky. The earth dance that is Up The Creek is a Moment in Tori history for its Raspberry Swirl-esque format. Wildwood’s Hotel California garden Persephone flow carries me away every time. The Concertina+Bug A Martini lovechild that is Bats is another absolute favorite-it’s a groove! Love love love her! Bang’s intersteller litany again makes me look up to the crystalline skies. Climb is the anthem many of us didn’t know we needed. Sonically simple (acoustic guitar and tambourine), and lyrically so empowering, a reminder of strength lifts me up and reminds me how far I’ve come since last year’s extreme depressive episode. The now emblematic koi fish is a symbol of battling and surviving, every time I see it now. Mary’s Eyes is beautiful and sad, snapshots of memories and visions with such atmosphere and color. Russia’s funeral dirge is another snapshot of where we were, and frankly, where we’re afraid of retuning, and Upside Down was all of us during the last administration-the absolute uncertainty of what was going to happen and just trying to get through the day. Happy Birthday, Baby, you are absolutely worth revisiting again and again

Queen Elizabeth II
September 8 of this year will certainly go down in history as the day of the death of a great woman who stood her ground in a 70-year reign that had a good deal of scandal. Technically, it wasn't her scandals, but her family's, but as Queen, she's the one who shows up. This led, during these decades, to the emergence of hatred for her or, on the contrary, adoration on the part of her subjects. Now you can see it in the way people react to her death. As far as I've seen, no one positively commemorates the Queen's death, but many decided to leave their mark by humoring the occasion a little through memes and tik toks. I don't criticize them because I think it's important to have a balance around that. Some mourn the death of their beloved Queen, others try to lighten the situation with old jokes about her "immortality" or sometimes going a little further, resurrecting the old discussion about the Queen's opinion and actions towards Princess Diana (I don't agree with certain jokes and comments that appear on the internet because some are very disrespectful, but I think everyone has a conscience to judge what they do and if that doesn't help, some less cute comments should do the magic). For better or worse, I think everyone agrees that the Queen was a great woman, who marked, positively or negatively, several generations. She witnessed several historical moments and, in all her trips, traveled 42 times around the world. I think it will take a long time for the next heirs to reach her level. The Queen liked horses and dogs, started a family, broke the record for longest reigning monarch and died in the castle she considered a paradise. She was an inspiration to a lot of people and managed to hit the mark of no longer being a Queen in the history book. It has become a recognized symbol around the world and forms the soul of the UK. Underneath it all, what many seem to forget is that she was human. She may have made mistakes, but who doesn't? I don't know much about Mornacchias but I think she did an excellent job. Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth II.
God Save the Queen

Star Trek Day
“I haven’t faced death. I’ve cheated death. I’ve tricked my way out of death and patted myself on the back for my ingenuity; I know nothing.” ~ James T. Kirk, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Long ago, in the depths of the cold war, America had a prophet arrive. He spoke not of religious texts and damnation, but instead provided us with a vision of the future so hope-filled, so compelling, that it has indelibly marked the imaginations of man-kind ever since. Star Trek Day celebrates that vision, and the man who created it, Gene Roddenberry.
History of Star Trek Day To today’s audiences, the original Star Trek series can seem hackneyed, corny, and even incredibly racist when viewed through the modern lens. To view it in this way overlooks the incredible strides that were made during it’s production, and how unthinkable some of the elements found within were. Consider if you will, Lieutenant Pavel Andreievich Chekov, a officer of Russian descent serving on board an American starship. In the days of the ‘Red Communist Threat’ this concept was inconceivable, but Gene dreamed of a day where it would be possible.
Then there was Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, who stood out not only by being a female officer on the deck of a naval vessel (since all starships are considered part of the Navy) but by being of African-American descent. Both of these elements created an incredible story for her, her position as fourth in command of the USS Enterprise not undermined by her position as a glorified telephone operator.
Star Trek speaks of a hope-filled future where our nationality no longer matters, and yet each of our personal heritages is still something we can be proud of. We are all citizens of the same universe, and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.
How to Celebrate Star Trek Day The best and easiest way to celebrate Star Trek Day is simply taking the time to marathon the original series. Take care on the first episode, it is easily rated as one of the most spooky and unnerving of all episodes, and Spock is to blame. They hadn’t established that Vulcan’s lacked emotion at that point, so there’s a shocking surprise for those unfamiliar with the episode. Put together some themed snacks and pull your old uniforms out of the closet, no better way to get in the spirit of Star Trek Day!

The American science fiction show Star Trek premiered with “The Man Trap” on September 8, 1966, launching a media franchise that has since created a cult phenomenon and has influenced the design of many current technologies.

Dearest Native Invader, you’re 5 today! You spoke out on a time where the heartbreak and confusion of the The Left in America was still an open, gaping wound, as well as chronicling a catastrophic downturn in the health of Tori’s mother, Mary. Opening with the truly epic Reindeer King, a song that for me evokes a frozen desolate landscape and also reminds me also of Led Zeppelin and Lord Of The Rings; a stark, thrumming stare into Death as if it were indeed a pale horse coming from a not so far off horizon. Broken Arrow, harkens back to the protest songs of the 60’s and 70’s with a dark, reverberating guitar echo and evidence that none of us knew just how dangerous the creature who stole the presidential office could be, but still a warning. From the Southwestern strum of Cloud Riders to the Militia Of The Mind activation of Up The Creek, the melancholy beauty of the meandering Wildwood, the marriage of Concertina and Bug A Martini that gives us Bats, and the cosmic outcreation outlined in Bang, the groove and longing for a return to scientific reason of Benjamin, the sad hope of Mary’s Eyes, and the funeral dirge of Russia, you met us where we were as we all tried to pick ourselves up, not knowing a deadly global pandemic would plunge us even deeper-but that’s where your sister, Ocean To Ocean steps in. Thank you for your beauty and galvanizing spirit. I love you!…… thank you Christopher Whitney for the graphic
