History is awesome, by any and every definition of the word.
Two photographs from nearly the exact same vantage point taken roughly 70 years apart. On the surface, they are perfect bookends for the story of one single person, but imagine all the other stories connected to that era. The husbands and wives and affairs and mistresses and children and grandchildren that have always populated the tabloids, of course. But also the end of an empire. The independence and self-determination of millions of people and the unheard voices of millions more. So many stories and lives with direct and indirect connections to the events that happened between the day that the 25-year-old woman walking into Westminster Abbey in the black-and-white photo on the left had a crown placed on her head and the day that pallbearers carried a flag-draped casket with her 96-year-old body into Westminster Abbey one last time for her state funeral in the color photograph on the right.
I’m not from the UK, I’m not a royalist, and I’m certainly not an imperialist, but I love history and that is the closest thing to a personification of history that I think any of us will ever experience. The Queen has always been a representative of something to somebody -- that was basically the duty she accepted and the utility she served. Some people believed she represented something positive, some people believed she represented something negative (or even evil), and others believed she represented the anachronism of monarchy itself in a diverse, modern society. To me, I saw history and everything that comes with history: the good, bad, and ugly (anachronisms are part of the daily diet of historians). But it’s always interesting and we can always learn from it. Do you know why? Because history is awesome.

The Queen was so young. She was taken from us too soon. Let us all reflect on some of the generous things this symbolic figurehead with no governing power has done for the United Kingdom.
· Used "Royal symbolism" to make Prince Andrew "untouchable" when he began to receive bad press and allegations of wrongdoing emerged:
· Interfered in Australian politics :
· Allegedly said "Nip on Nip on" to Japanese person and "has reservations about Jews":

Poet Laureate Simon Armitage discusses and reads his poem Floral Tribute - In Memory of Queen Elizabeth II - BBC Radio 4 Today - 13 September 2022
Floral Tribute
by Simon Armitage
Evening will come, however determined the late afternoon,
Limes and oaks in their last green flush, pearled in September mist.
I have conjured a lily to light these hours, a token of thanks,
Zones and auras of soft glare framing the brilliant globes.
A promise made and kept for life – that was your gift –
Because of which, here is a gift in return, glovewort to some,
Each shining bonnet guarded by stern lance-like leaves.
The country loaded its whole self into your slender hands,
Hands that can rest, now, relieved of a century's weight.
Evening has come. Rain on the black lochs and dark Munros.
Lily of the Valley, a namesake almost, a favourite flower
Interlaced with your famous bouquets, the restrained
Zeal and forceful grace of its lanterns, each inflorescence
A silent bell disguising a singular voice. A blurred new day
Breaks uncrowned on remote peaks and public parks, and
Everything turns on these luminous petals and deep roots,
This lily that thrives between spire and tree, whose brightness
Holds and glows beyond the life and border of its bloom.

Queen Elizabeth II
September 8 of this year will certainly go down in history as the day of the death of a great woman who stood her ground in a 70-year reign that had a good deal of scandal. Technically, it wasn't her scandals, but her family's, but as Queen, she's the one who shows up. This led, during these decades, to the emergence of hatred for her or, on the contrary, adoration on the part of her subjects. Now you can see it in the way people react to her death. As far as I've seen, no one positively commemorates the Queen's death, but many decided to leave their mark by humoring the occasion a little through memes and tik toks. I don't criticize them because I think it's important to have a balance around that. Some mourn the death of their beloved Queen, others try to lighten the situation with old jokes about her "immortality" or sometimes going a little further, resurrecting the old discussion about the Queen's opinion and actions towards Princess Diana (I don't agree with certain jokes and comments that appear on the internet because some are very disrespectful, but I think everyone has a conscience to judge what they do and if that doesn't help, some less cute comments should do the magic). For better or worse, I think everyone agrees that the Queen was a great woman, who marked, positively or negatively, several generations. She witnessed several historical moments and, in all her trips, traveled 42 times around the world. I think it will take a long time for the next heirs to reach her level. The Queen liked horses and dogs, started a family, broke the record for longest reigning monarch and died in the castle she considered a paradise. She was an inspiration to a lot of people and managed to hit the mark of no longer being a Queen in the history book. It has become a recognized symbol around the world and forms the soul of the UK. Underneath it all, what many seem to forget is that she was human. She may have made mistakes, but who doesn't? I don't know much about Mornacchias but I think she did an excellent job. Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth II.
God Save the Queen

Attention Peasants
It has come to my attention that England’s shortest reign for a Monarch is 9 days (Lady Jane Grey, July 10 - July 19th 1553).
Now I’m not saying anything, but it would be really funny if the longest reigning Monarch would be succeeded by the shortest reigning, and we’ve only got a limited amount of time to do it!

Do you have any idea why LBJ was the only president who Queen Elizabeth never met during her reign?
We just don't know! Even the @lbjlibrary has previously stated that they simply don't know why LBJ and the Queen never met.
It seems to be a quirk of bad timing -- or, really, several instances of bad timing. They almost certainly would have met if there happened to be any major state funerals in the United States or UK during when they were both serving as head of state. And two of the biggest state funerals of the 20th Century actually happened during that time -- President John F. Kennedy's in November 1963 and former Prime Minister Winston Churchill's in January 1965. But Queen Elizabeth II was pregnant with Prince Edward at the time of JFK's funeral and unable to attend. At the time of Churchill's funeral, LBJ was suffering from a really bad respiratory infection that had required him to be hospitalized the day before Churchill died. According to LBJ, White House doctors strongly advised that he not fly anywhere while recovering from his illness, so he did not attend Churchill's funeral -- and was heavily criticized for not doing so by the British and American press.
The Queen did not visit the United States while LBJ was President, and President Johnson didn't visit the United Kingdom during his term, so they just kind of missed each other. They corresponded and there was no known personal or political reason that they never met. LBJ and Lady Bird actually hosted a fancy dinner at the White House in 1965 for the Queen's sister, Princess Margaret, and Margaret's husband, the Earl of Snowdon.
LBJ also didn't meet the Queen during his time as Vice President. Elizabeth II did not visit the United States at all during the Kennedy Administration, and President Kennedy's meeting with the Queen took place during a formal state dinner at Buckingham Palace in 1961, which the Vice President wouldn't have traveled to attend.
Interestingly, there is one possible time where LBJ and Queen Elizabeth II actually might have crossed paths, but there's no solid answer about it either way. In October 1957, the Queen visited the United States for several days and a state dinner was held in her honor at the White House by President Eisenhower. At the time, LBJ was the Senate Majority Leader -- arguably the second most powerful person in the United States. The LBJ Library has said that then-Senator Johnson was invited to the state dinner, accepted the invitation, and that the state dinner is on the schedule in his datebook from the time. However, unusually, there is no evidence that LBJ actually attended the state dinner. The LBJ Library says that it seems likely that he would have attended the dinner, but they've never been able to confirm it and, if he did attend, whether or not he met the Queen. But it seems likely that he would have at least been introduced to her if he attended the dinner considering his prominent position in Congress during the Eisenhower Administration. Again, we just don't know for sure.
Eventually, Lady Bird Johnson finally did meet the Queen, but it was 18 years after LBJ's death. In May 1991, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited the United States and, while they were in Austin, Texas, they took a trip to the @lbjlibrary where they met Lady Bird and the Johnson daughters.

“London Bridge is Down”
Tumblr media
Rest in Peace, Your Majesty.
Elizabeth II, Queen of the UK, Canada and head of the Commonwealth has passed away at the age of 96.
70 years on the throne, her picture graced the classrooms of Commonwealth schools as we did our studies.
Her coronation as Queen being held June 2, 1953, she had been queen longer than I have drawn breath, having succeeded her father, King George VI when he passed away on February 6, 1952, becoming Queen on that date.
I distinctly remember the picture of her on the wall looking down on me as I did my math problems. This one was the one that was on the wall of our classroom
Tumblr media
The queen had been the ruler of the Commonwealth and the United Kingdom for 23 years by the time I was in elementary school.
I, in 52 years of life, a mere two thirds of her reign, have known no other Commonwealth regent than her.
Her passing leaves me to wonder if her child Charles, now taking on the mantle of Charles III, regent, King of the UK and Leader of the Commonwealth will be as effective as her in keeping the Commonwealth unified. His reign no doubt will be a short one as he is already 73, the oldest to assume the throne. But one can only stand and watch to see what happens as citizens of the commonwealth wonder.
At 52, I probably may not be around to see William assume the throne since his father may live another twenty or so years as his mother and father did.
We’ll all see what happens during the course of Charles’ reign. But since Elizabeth was always there on the British throne during the course of my life, it will be hard to think of Charles as anything other than the Perennial Prince. It will take a much more drastic shift of thinking to perceive him as the King.

A favorite picture of Her Majesty dropping the puck at a Vancouver Canucks game that she was in attendance for.
As she passes from this life and into the realm of history books we can look upon the entirety of her reign in retrospect: she did “what was proper and dignified” as a regent for her subjects both at home and abroad.
May her reign be remembered,
“The Queen is dead; God Rest The Queen; Long Live the King; God Save The King!”
As a Canadian citizen and loyal Commonwealth subject, I say this: “Rest in Peace, my Queen.”
Tumblr media
Her poignant words to her subjects still rings out from her first televised Christmas broadcast in 1957:
Today things are very different. I cannot lead you into battle, I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else, I can give you my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations.
Her words from her coronation in. 1953:
I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust.
I have behind me not only the splendid traditions and the annals of more than a thousand years but the living strength and majesty of the Commonwealth and empire; of societies old and new; of lands and races different in history and origins but all, by God’s will, united in spirit and in aim.
You have, Your Majesty and in your passing you have left a void that others will truly struggle to fill.
Requiescat in pace, Elizabeth II Regina.
Your duty is done.
