The Great Wall of China

The Colossus of Rhodes stood for more than half a century at the entrance to Mandraki harbor on the Greek island of Rhodes. The legendary 157-foot sculpture was considered one of 7 Wonders of Ancient World, along with the Great Pyramids of Giza and the hanging gardens of Babylon. The statue was constructed over 12 years by Greek sculptor Chares, and was completed in 292 BC as an honor to the patron sun god Helios and to commemorate the country’s recent military victories over Cyprus. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC when the statue buckled at the knees and fell over onto land.

UNIT 9

Self directed project. I chose to do a short 2d hand drawn animation in the 2 weeks I had before placement, creating my own character and narratively driven movement, with an emphasis on armour and kaijin style personas.

Character creation.  I was on a very short timescale (2-3 days to get the character made from creation to finally done) so my decision making had to be very critical and fast. I chose the Colossus at Rhodes for no reason other than I thought it was cool. The short timescale is also why there’s not as many design iterations as I would like, but I am happy with the character I created - I was very inspired by the Colossus itself (a statue of Helios,) Toxica from Power Rangers: Wild Force, and Gold Experience from Jojo, as well as my usual neo-art deco style.

BRAZIL is calling! 🇧🇷✈📽 New project is approaching! My trip starts tomorrow! These wonders were all built in the ancient world, with most of them being constructed between the 3rd and 1st centuries BCE. While some of them no longer exist, others can still be seen today as ruins or partially reconstructed structures. you guys have no idea how much it tickles me to see ds9 trending on the top 20 of shows of Tumblr this week when ds9 literally aired from 1993 to 1999.

this show is 31 years old. it was the black sheep of the franchise for years, was hated by Rick Berman to the point where its canon was disrespected and ignored for every subsequent star trek, including modern trek.

and yet.

still top 20 on trending shows of 2024.

and i'm so glad the youngins are still watching it, and star trek in general.

it just proves my theory that if you make a show that feels like home, people will not only return to it, but bring their children with them too.

also that if you make a really gay and trans half alien half human crew, your show will be timeless.

i could stare at them forever,
