📖 final chapter: what unanswered questions do you have middle earth?
📚 boxset: how were you first introduced to Middle Earth?
✏ rewrites: here's a pencil, which ONE thing in the novels/films are you changing?
👀 the eye of sauron: who are you looking at disrespectfully?
📖: I have so many unanswered questions. Where are the Ent-Wives? What’s up with the stone giants in The Hobbit? Who is Gil-Galad’s dad? How does Eru Ilúvatar feel about the Ainur’s relationship with the Elves? What did the Dwarves do in Middle Earth after the Elves largely left?
📚: I had a graphic novel version of The Hobbit that I read as a kid. Then I read the 50th anniversary edition of The Lord of the Rings when I was around 12 and watched the movies soon after.
✏️: No Denethor eating the tomato scene. That is out, to be replaced by Gollum eating potatoes and realizing that they’re actually good.
👀: I am always looking respectfully at Aragorn. Disrespectfully at Sauron, both in the “oh no, he’s hot” sense and the “you deserve disrespect” sense.
Middle Earth asks!

Just need to ask this as someone who's still yet to see Flying Circus.......
Is the HD quality for Flying Circus on Netflix the fully restored/remastered HD version, like for the 50th anniversary remastered edition collection boxset for Monty Python's Flying Circus, or is the quality the same as the aired version of Flying Circus from 1969-1974?
I think it’s the same quality as it it has all the grain… I’m not a professional though!

Reviewed: Big Finish’s Eleventh Doctor Chronicles Volume 3 – Geronimo!
Reviewed: @bigfinish’s Eleventh #DoctorWho Chronicles Volume 3 – Geronimo!
After two boxsets of standalone stories, the third volume of The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles kicks off with a 12-part story arc, spreading across four boxsets. To be perfectly honest, I remember how disappointed I felt about the outcomes of Series 7 in my teenage years; a missed opportunity for a decent build-up towards the 50th anniversary, lacking two-parters and proper story arcs. But this…

Movie Review: Neil Young - “Harvest Time”
As he speaks about the making of Harvest 50 years ago, Neil Young suddenly realizes he may have given away too much - seeing’s how moviegoers had just shelled out $15 to experience “Harvest Time” in theaters.
So he stopped talking, turned and walked back in to his ramshackle barn.
Taped specifically for the Dec. 1 and 4 movie house screenings, Young’s 2022 introduction serves to reinforce just how much time has passed since his shot-in-1971-but-never-released documentary went into the vault. The contemporary Young is a haggard septuagenarian - but one who still revels with the delight of the straggly, 20-something who stars in “Harvest Time.”
Filmmaking traversed the United States and Europe as Young records with the Stray Gators at his Broken Arrow Ranch in California and lays down “A Man Needs at Maid” and “There’s a World” on the London Symphony Orchestra’s home turf.
David Crosby and Stephen Stills travel to Broken Arrow to help with “Alabama;” Stills and Graham Nash join Young in New York to work on “Words (Between the Lines of Age).” In his intro, Young mentions James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt’s contributions to the sessions, but they do not appear.
The ranch hand who inspired “Old Man” is featured in a brief segment and gives his approval to the song. Young is now a couple of decades older than that man was at the time and many of the other people in the film - Ben Keith, Carrie Snodgress and Elliott Roberts among them - are now dead.
Back in ’71, daytime beers are consumed, joints and pipes are smoked and music pours out of Young, who lies in a field listening to playback echoing off the hills on his ranch as he struggles with celebrity and being, in his words, “a rich hippie.”
In London, Young plays a snippet of “Harvest” in a dressing room while discussing the symphony sessions with producer Glyn Johns. Back at home, a giggly Young, stoned out of his gourd and lying on his back, picks out a version of “Out on the Weekend” on banjo and plays “Journey through the Past” on piano. An in-concert performance of “Heart of Gold” leads into the closing credits.
Just before this scene, Young is in Nashville. He drops into a radio station to get some free, on-air promotion and tells the DJ he expects the film-in-progress to be released “maybe pretty soon.”
At its premiere 51 years later, “Harvest Time” looks its age and its age is what makes the amateurish “Harvest Time” work, for its vintage is its charm. That charm renders the shaky camera work, the overlong barn jams and stoned strolls through Broken Arrow worth the time. All of this said, the two-hour film could’ve easily been trimmed to 90 minutes with nothing being lost.
“Harvest Time” is also available in the just-released, 50th-anniversary Harvest boxset.

1. Why did I start following you? I genuinely can’t remember how I came across you.
2. What is your favourite way to eat potatoes?
3. If you had to spend $100 (of whatever your currency is) in the next 30 minutes could you? And how would you spend it?
1. That's the best reason. Thanks for sticking around!
2. Ohhhh depends on the day!! I know it's cliche but it's hard to beat a French fry.... or roasted maybe... hashbrowns... au gratin....
3. I absolutely could... maybe on clothes, probably a lot on food and alcohol (which I've been avoiding buying for budget reasons). Oh and supplies to make flower crowns. I want a MASH DVD boxset but I'm holding out to see if they come out with a new one for the 50th anniversary.

I’M REALLY REALLY EXCITED!! SO I’M GOING TO TALK ABOUT MY SPECIAL INTEREST FOR A BIT (also an accidental slight rant about Amazon whilst I’m at it because I’m annoyed at them)
Tumblr media
So the blu-ray collection of Doctor Who season 8 that I pre-ordered from Amazon in January should be arriving today and I’m excited because it’s one of my favourite classic Who seasons (I really really LOVE and am a massive fan the Pertwee era as he’s my third favourite Doctor and my favourite Classic Who Doctor and the third Doctor’s run with UNIT and this is where the UNIT family is at its peak!)!!!!!! SO I’M EXCITED!
I mean Terror of The Autons? ITS A MASTERPIECE (pun not intended) ITS THE STORY THAT INTRODUCED MY FAVOURITE VILLAIN (THE MASTER), AS WELL AS THE CINNAMON ROLL THAT IS JO GRANT AND CAPTAIN YATES WHO IS TECHNICALLY A COMPANION ALONG WITH BENTON , AND OVER ALL IS GREAT CHARACTER WHO GETS OVER LOOKED! (and will I ever stop yelling about how Yates deserves better? Or defending Yates even though he betrayed UNIT? NO I WILL NOT, even if season 8 is before the traumatic stuff) and
DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE BRILLIANT EPISODE THAT IS THE DAEMONS, which was only filmed like 20 minutes away from where I live, although it was filmed 28 years before I was even born, it’s still pretty cool! (But I’ve never to Albourne, aka Devils End, unfortunately, despite it being so close, and having passed the sign so many times however I do plan on going there eventually when all this situation is over and doing some Doctor Who sightseeing!)
ALSO I’M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT ALL THE BEHIND THE SCENES STUFF ON THE BOXSET MOST OF IF NOT ALL OF IT I WILL NEVER HAVE SEEN BEFORE AND I CANT WAIT TO LISTEN TO THE EPISODE COMMENTARIES BECAUSE I LOVE HEARING ABOUT BEHIND THE SCENES STUFF AND ITS GOING TO BE SO COOL TO HEAR THE CAST AND CREW TALK ABOUT THE PERTWEE ERA IN RETROSPECT!!!!
However, that being said, I am extremely distrustful of Amazon at this point because after I pre-ordered the boxset in January, they’ve b*ll*cksed up FOUR of my orders IN A ROW (either loosing them in transit or cancelling them- in the case of my pre-order of the 50th Anniversary Steelbook, which I was extra pissed about- it’s a long story- but basically I pre-ordered the steel book at the same time as the Season 8 boxset, with my birthday money, then amazon lost the order, which is fine, that stuff happens, so they ordered me a replacement.....and then they cancelled that, AND CHARGED ME TAX for the refund out of the amount they refunded me for (that whole thirty days and you’ll get a full refund they spread on emails is 100% a lie), so my sister upon seeing how distressed I was about it (I’m autistic, I don’t do well with sudden unprepared changes, and I was extremely excited about securing a copy, so I couldn’t prevent the autistic meltdown that ensued when I found out they’d pulled that bullsh*t on me even though I tried to prevent it, and it was the worst meltdown I had had since I was about twelve) found one on another site and ordered it so I did end up getting one in the end so all was well).
Anyway because of that part of me is not holding up much hope that it’s going to arrive and Amazon isn’t going to mess it up. But it can’t happen the fifth time in a row, can it? Surely Amazon can’t mess me over again this frequently right?
(Also just another note, Does anyone on the autistic spectrum have any strategies than can help me stay calm and level headed if it doesn’t arrive? Because I don’t want another massive meltdown because it got nasty and really damaged my mental health, but I sometimes can’t stop it when I want to do any advice would be helpful and appreciated)
Also I’m sorry this turned into a long rant about Amazon rather me being excited about my Doctor Who collection boxset and infodumping on you all about my main special interest, I just needed to get it off my chest and I’m excited for the collection!

I was tagged by @thisbluespirit to post about my seven comfort films. Alas I don’t watch films often enough to have any comfort films, never mind seven of them, so instead, have my seven comfort Big Finish audios (yes, I am THAT much of a nerd!) NB: Despite the numbering, these are in order of me remembering them - apart from the first. That’s definitely #1!
1 - The Light at the End - Nicholas Briggs (aka The Voice of the Daleks
Featuring Doctors Four through to Eight and their companions (Leela, Nyssa, Peri, Ace, and Charley respectively), this was Big Finish’s offering for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. And I love it an insane perfectly normal amount.
Tumblr media
2 - The Four Doctors - Peter Anghelides
Featuring Doctors Five through to Eight (as this came before BF finally managed to woo Tom Baker into the fold). It’s a bonus release that’s only available if you purchase a subscription.
Tumblr media
3 - Robophobia - Nicholas Briggs
This is a solo Seventh Doctor story that introduces us to medtech Liv Chenka (Nicola Walker), who’ll later go on to become a companion of the Eighth Doctor (as requested by the TARDIS herself, as revealed in the fourth part of this quadrology, Black and White.) It’s set on a ship that originates from Kaldor, as featured in the Fourth Doctor story Robots of Death. And I love it an insane perfectly normal amount.
Tumblr media
4 - The Red Lady - John Dorney
This is the second in the Eighth Doctor boxset Doom Coalition 1 (there are four boxsets in this story arc) and introduces us to Eight’s newest companion, Helen Sinclair (Hattie Morahan).
Tumblr media
5 - Absent Friends - John Dorney
This is the first story in the third Doom Coalition boxset, and it never fails to make me weep. I love it an insane perfectly normal amount.
Tumblr media
6 -  Better Watch Out/Fairytale of Salzburg - John Dorney
These are the second and third stories in the second boxset of the Ravenous story arc and is a not-quite-Christmas story (since it’s set around Krampusnacht, which is on December 6). It’s a two-parter and features Eight, Liv, and Helen - and Helen, especially gets to properly shine! I love it an insane perfectly normal amount.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7 - Someone I Once Knew - John Dorney
This is the fourth story in the fourth The Diary of River Song boxset and it features River Song and the Fourth Doctor. It features an absolutely bloody brilliant speech from River to an alien guy who’s been hounding her through Time and Space wanting her to be his wife (AS IF!) that is a perfect summary of how women are NOT obliged to do anything just because a man fancies them. (And yes, the speech is written by a man.) I love it an insane perfectly normal amount.
Tumblr media
And yes, I DO love the writing of John Dorney an insane perfectly normal amount, thank you for noticing!

So, first off, I’m not at all bothered about Simm being there. I knew BF would get him eventually, and it’s kind of nice to have all the surviving TV Masters together for the Master’s 50th anniversary. And I’m very excited to see Alex Macqueen back finally, and thrilled that Dreyfus isn’t included. It’s looking more and more like BF have stopped working with him, so yay.
Unfortunately, BF haven’t done many recent Master stories I’ve been particularly impressed with. I’d love to be excited about this boxset but I feel more tired and anxious. I don’t trust them to make it... actually good.
I hope it’s just featuring multiple Masters and not really a multi-Master story because I’ve kind of had my fill of those for now, and you definitely can’t have Simm and Gomez meet, even if they forget it, because it would do a huge disservice to WEaT/TDF. But hey, diluting the effectiveness of onscreen material with unnecessary side stories is what BF does best.
I’m also concerned about what incarnation Milo Parker is playing. He’s a young actor, so ideally he would be playing the child incarnation from Titan Comics who I thought was pretty cool, but more likely he’s playing the Master as an actual child in their first incarnation, which I’m far less interested in seeing. BF proved with Dreyfus that they can’t write an early Master without turning them into the most generic version of the character possible. I’d rather they just stayed far away from the Master’s past.
Honestly, I just... don’t expect them to do anything worthwhile with this set, though of course I’d love to be proven wrong. I’m sure parts of it will still be quite enjoyable either way, but I don’t feel most BF writers grasp what makes the Master a compelling character. For one thing, the Master needs someone to play off (preferably the Doctor, but anyone with a sufficiently strong personality can work---we’ve seen it with Clara, Jo, the Rani, River Song, etc.) and without that personality clash the Master just doesn’t quite work. And of course there are BF’s bland attempts to make the Master competent and threatening, which I’ve complained about many times. And I doubt I will vibe with their interpretation of Missy any more this time around than I have in previous audios.
I dunno, man. Wish I had more faith.

Doctor Who's New Orphaned Episodes
Orphan episodes of the new series of Doctor Who really annoy me. By which I mean those random episodes the BBC in their infinite wisdom decide to not include with a boxset. At one point it was The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe being ommitted from Series 7, but fan outcry forced them to change that. Then it was the 50th Anniversary Special Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor, though that got a trilogy bundle eventually. Luckily the lone Christmas Special that had no series, The Return of Doctor Mysterio was included with Series 10s boxset. Twice Upon a Time wasn't so lucky. I think the real issue is the rush to release the boxset which usually means getting it out before Christmas. Or New Year's Day in the case of Resolution, which absolutely should have been included with Series 11's boxset. Considering it provides a better series finale and provides some closure to one of the only story threads present in the Series 11; Ryan's strained relationship with his absent father, it's essential viewing to anyone hoping to make sense of the run and it's omission is driven purely by release schedules. I do wonder if it will be awkwardly packaged with the Series 12 boxset, which is already being advertized for sale before the first episode has dropped!
