Surprise, everybody! It's exactly what nobody was expecting today, a new chapter of my 3x13 wilderness survival training fix-it fic. Who's ready for more trees and rain?? 🌲🌧️🏕️ And also some bad guys and conspiracy theories...

The party of three men and one woman that abducts Mac has high-powered rifles and no idea how to survive in the wilderness. That becomes apparent in the first twenty minutes he’s with them. The one thing they do well is tie his hands, which leaves him little choice but to come along quietly. Well. He technically had the option of yelling, but two of the four kidnappers had weapons trained on his sleeping friends when they pulled him away from his bathroom break just before dawn. He’s got a better chance of getting himself out of this mess with his hands tied than they had of surviving a couple bullets in their sleep. His estimation of their survival skills goes down as soon as they rifle through his backpack and start guzzling the contents of his canteen. “You might want to ration that,” he says. “Clean water can be hard to come by out here.” “Where’s your food?” one of the men asks, pulling Mac’s deflated backpack open more, as if that will make a pile of rations appear. He's a big guy, and he looks like he'd hold his own in hand-to-hand better than he's going against nature. And, of course, there's the rifle slung over his shoulder. Mac holds in a smile. “Don’t have any. I was going to find it on my own. How long has it been since you guys ran out?” “Too long,” says the guy who swallowed down half of Mac’s remaining water. The man who seems to be in charge, who one of the others called Giovanni, ends up with Mac’s knife, which kills the idea that he might be able to get to it and cut the rope around his hands. He’s pretty sure he could make a break for it, but he’s less certain that he could get out of range before one of them shot him. Even if he did get away, it’s still possible that they’d be able to track him back to the campsite, putting the rest of the team in danger. No, he’s going to have to cooperate for now. “So, are you going to tell me what this is all about? Where do you need to go so badly you’re willing to kidnap a guide?” For a moment, it looks like the guy in charge doesn’t want to tell him, but he pulls out a paper map and unfolds it. “X marks the spot,” Giovanni says, tapping it with his gun. “What’s at the X?” Giovanni’s eyes narrow but then he shrugs. “You ever heard of D. B. Cooper?”

Hello! Do you happen to have a list of all the "macriley episodes"? (with significant macriley moments) Especially in the first 3 seasons (4th and 5th are recent enough for me to remember lol). Have a lovely day!

That depends on your definition “significant”. Because that kind of stuff doesn’t really happen until the two most recent seasons anyway.

But I’ll list episodes I thought were cute for them.

Can Opener (1x07) - quintessential MacRiley episode

Scissors (1x11) – Not super significant, but him going after her with Jack was nice.

Large Blade (1x13) – Little interaction, but she worries about him which...cute.

Muscle Car + Paper Clips (2x02) – The first time Mac vocalizes his faith in Riley

Roulette Wheel + Wire (2x03) – She has him handcuffed to a bed and calls him ridiculous pet names. Need I say more?

Hammock + Balcony (2x16) – Mostly just cute glances. But the way he looks at her makes my heart happy.

UFO + Area 51 (2x22) – I’m just a sucker for MacRiley missions.

Improvise (3x01) – She just looked so happy to see him again. This episode absolutely does not need to be on this list, but...I’m soft for it.

Guts + Fuel + Hope (3x04) – Riley and Mac race to a get a tanker of liquid oxygen to a hospital. Brief possibility of Mac dying, so...worried Riley.

Revenge + Catacombs + Le Fantome (3x08) – Riley calms Mac down.

Wilderness + Training + Survival (3x13) – Riley [with the help of Bozer] races to save Mac after he’s taken captive. In my top three for MacRiley episodes.

Father + Bride + Betrayal (3x14) – Conversations are had that I think are important. And not only do we get to see him carry her, but we get to see him hug her out of relief. (“She’s okay. She’s okay” will never not kill me)

Treason + Heartbreak + Gum (3x21) – Riley breaks up with Billy, Mac comforts her.

Most of the MacRiley content in the first three seasons revolves more around how they act in general. The way they look at each other. The way he talks to her like he doesn’t talk to anybody else.

So it’s basically subtext.

But yeah. These are all good episodes to watch.

In which the kidnappers reach an obstacle 🌊 and Mac comes up with a plan...

Giovanni’s group arrives at the edge of the stream abruptly. The path the water has carved into the granite of the mountain is about twenty-five feet deep and at least thirty feet wide. There’s a thick, spiky bank of salmonberry bushes and ferns so they can’t get very close. Giovanni’s team isn’t prepared to climb over thorny bushes, so they hike upstream until they find a section where they can walk right up to the edge. It’s a steep drop to a raging stream. Exactly as Mac predicted. He unfolds the map, pursing his lips as he checks it again for a good spot to cross. Giovanni glares down into the ravine, hands on hips, and turns to one of the other men. “Anton. Get your rope out. You’re going down first.” Mac’s head snaps up, mouth dropping open before he pulls it shut. Surely someone else will say something before he has to. The idea is just so obviously a bad one. The man selected, Anton, looks skeptical even as he crouches to dig a coil of rope out of his backpack. It’s brand new, still wrapped in plastic. “We’re gonna get all wet trying to cross that.” “And you’re going to melt?” Giovanni’s tone is scathing. “It’s cold out here, Gio,” Anton complains, and Mac nods. “It’s not the damn arctic,” Giovanni snaps. “Get going or—” Mac can’t stop himself. “Anton’s right,” he says, already bracing for repercussions to speaking up. “That water is glacial melt. It’s going to be just above the melting point, and you don’t have any way to dry off on the other side. In weather like this, that’s asking for hypothermia.” Giovanni’s dark look is almost everything Mac expected, but the man doesn’t make a physical threat as he turns to argue. “It’s not freezing out here.” “It doesn’t have to be if you’re wet,” Mac points out. “Even dry, you can develop hypothermia in temperatures as high as fifty degrees fahrenheit and it’s not more than forty today. It’ll be even colder overnight.” And they’re all wearing cotton, which will be worse than useless as insulation if it gets damp. Giovanni’s jaw tightens as he clenches it. “Do you have a better idea?”
