Wie gemein es ist, dass es mir so viel besser geht, seit du nicht mehr mit ihm zusammen bist.

Es tut mir leid, dass du leidest - das tut es wirklich.

Aber ich war so unglücklich damit, darüber nachdenken zu müssen, dass ich ihn nicht sehen will. Dass ich vergessen will, dass er existiert und er dein Partner war.

Ich dachte, es würde uns über kurz oder lang entzweien. Ich hatte Angst davor, aber es hat sich unweigerlich angefühlt.

Weil ich nicht mit ihm leben kann. Weil ich nicht glauben kann, dass er die Person ist, die du willst.

Ich meine - das ist er wohl immer noch. Die Person, die du an deiner Seite willst. Aber er ist nicht mehr die, die dort ist.

Und auch wenn ich dachte, dass die Hoffnung wieder aufkeimt, wenn du Single bis, scheint es nicht so zu sein.

Nein, ich glaube, ich bin drüber hinweg. Nicht ganz, aber ein gutes Stück.

Gott, ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass ich das mal so fühlen würde und ich bin so so so erleichtert.

The ancient people of Danger Cave lived well. They ate freshwater fish, ducks and other small game, according to detritus they left behind. They had a lush lakeside view, with cattails, bulrush and water-loving willows adorning the marshlands.

But then, the good life became history. As heat and drought set in, the freshwater dried up and forced the ancients to survive by plucking tiny seeds from desert shrubs called pickleweed. Archaeologists know this from a thick layer of dusty chaff buried in the cave's floor.

It might be ancient history. But the past could also become the future, science tells us. In fact, thanks to global warming, regional climate patterns linked to extended periods of heat and drought that upended prehistoric life across the Southwest thousands of years ago are setting up again now.

The climate risk across the Southwest is actually growing, based on Lachniet's recent study of a different cave, about 200 miles across the Great Basin in Nevada.

His geochemical data from Leviathan Cave shows that drought can last 4,000 years—findings that Lachniet's team cross-checked against paleoclimate data from the Arctic and tropical Pacific. In short, the story in the cave data suggests a "worst-case scenario" that could—and probably should—guide planning throughout a region that provides water to 56 million people.

"In this case, we know that nature is capable of extended dry conditions that are even longer than they are today," Lachniet said. "And the concern is, if we go into the future of a warm Arctic and a warm Western tropical Pacific, that it will have the same effect on the climate of the Southwest" that it did during those arid times back at Danger Cave.

Disebuah tempat berbatu menanjak, aku terduduk sambil memandang tempat sekitar. Tiba-tiba desiran sunyi merayap dalam diri, membuat bulu kuduk berdiri. Melihat kebawah, curam. Melihat keatas, tak terbatas. Batinku "bukankah aku tadi ditempat yang paling atas?". Melihat kebelakang --tepat di tempat teman-teman yang membersamaiku-- kosong, mereka tidak ada.
