Meet the Seiyuu: Floyd Leech
Tumblr media
Okamoto Nobuhiko enrolled in Pro Fit Voice Actor Training Institute (the same academy as Sebek’s Ishiya Haruki) while working part-time jobs at McDonald’s, 7-11, the post office and as a security guard in order to pay his tuition.
Today is his birthday!
Okamoto won a voice-acting award for Best Newcomer in 2009, the same year he graduated from university. He would go on to win a best supporting actor award in 2011.
He made his singer debut in 2012 with mini-album “Palette”
youtube
At the end of 2021 the Pro Fit agency announced that they would be discontinuing operations for a time. In order to help the voice actors who were being dropped Okamoto established his own agency and was able to successfully transfer over the contracts of nearly all of Pro Fit’s actors in February 2022.
Okamoto is adept at board games. He wished to become a professional shogi player as a child and has received training from professionals. Also a fan of Pokemon, he once interviewed producer Junichi Masuda in an issue of Dengeki Nintendo Magazine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okamoto’s first lead character role was in 2006’s Ghost Hunt as John Brown. He has since had lead roles in over 230 video games and anime, including Ivan Karelin in Tiger and Bunny, Dagger in Toboso Yana’s Book of Circus, Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia, Garfiel Tinsel in Re:Zero and more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okamoto is a prolific actor, appearing in on-stage musicals and TV shows while also voicing animated movies, providing narration, doing radio shows, dubbing foreign films, recording drama CDs and audio books and more.
Okamoto is a member of the Seiyou Tube Channel on YouTube, which mostly seems to consist of seiyuu who are friends with one another live-streaming video games. He has a video with Silver’s Shimazaki Nobunaga, and this one boxing with Sebek’s Ishiya Haruki
youtube
And here he is playing Dark Souls III with Riddle’s voice actor Hanae Natsuki
youtube
There is also this video where he introduces Twisted Wonderland to new players and explains the battle system, lesson system, etc. In what seems like a very rare move for seiyuu, he actually uses Floyd’s voice at various points in his explanation; it’s a delight to watch.

BTS and the Power of Music: Breaking Barriers and Spreading Love
Tumblr media
BTS, also known as Bangatan Sonyeodan is the biggest boyband in the world (according to the economist.com) and debuted under the HYBE LABELS. They started from humble beginnings. They once begged people to go to their concerts and lived in a small dorm which did not fit all of them. But now all their concert tickets just get sold out at a blink of an eye. And their fans have been mentioning them paving the way of their life and the K-pop industry when it was at its worst. Their 40 million fans loved them because of their music which gives them inspiration, motivation and loving themselves is a must in the fandom. In Fact, they have released an album dedicated to loving yourself (Love Yourself: Answer) on the 24th of August, 2018.
BTS released their first Korean and Japanese-language studio albums, Dark & Wild and Wake Up respectively, in 2014. The group's second Korean studio album, Wings (2016), was their first to sell one million copies in South Korea.

Tumblr media
They have also been invited to the United Nations as their ambassador and the White House by president Joe Biden.
MEMBERS:
Kim Seok Jin (Jin)
Tumblr media
Jin is the hyung of BTS (the oldest). Meaning he has to take care of his younger members since they’re very far away from their family due to their training. His younger members were raised by him for more than a decade! And I do think that they were raised right by their Jin hyung with all their awards and recognitions they still have been very humble about it.
He is a songwriter and the vocalist of the group. Jin has co-written and released three solo tracks with BTS: "Awake" in 2016, "Epiphany" in 2018, and "Moon" in 2020, all of which have charted on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart
For now, Jin is serving his country as a military personnel with Hoseok.
Min Yoongi (Suga)
Tumblr media
The lead rapper of the group came from a financially unstable family in Daegu. But due to his hard work he is now part of the Biggest Boy Band in The World and the global ambassador for Valentino. He used to work as a delivery boy in his teenage years. While working as a delivery boy he had a major injury which caused him to have surgery. He's been battling with mental illness for the past years. His fans and group members were a big help to him to overcome it.
Suga has also collabed with big time singers, like PSY, IU, Halsey and many more.
Jung Hoseok (J-hope)
Tumblr media
The third hyung in the group. He is the ambassador of Louis Vuitton all because of his great fashion sense. Before debuting with BTS, J-Hope was part of an underground dance team called Neuron, and took dance classes at Gwangju Music Academy for six years, from fourth grade to his first year in high school when he signed with Big Hit Entertainment.[He was relatively well known for his dance skills, and won various local prizes, including first place in a national dance competition in 2008.
In 2019, J-Hope released a free collaboration single, "Chicken Noodle Soup", featuring American singer Becky G, on September 27.The track debuted at number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100, making J-Hope the first member of BTS to chart on the Hot 100 as a solo artist, the third Korean solo artist to rank on the chart , and the sixth Korean artist overall to do so. "Chicken Noodle Soup" also became J-Hope's second song to debut at number one on the World Digital Song Sales chart. And now, he is currently serving Korea as a soldier.
Kim Namjoon (RM)
Tumblr media
RM, is the leader and the main rapper of the group. He is called the Backbone of K-pop, since he was the main reason why it was popular and why the group BTS exists which contributed a lot to the Korean economy. Namjoon, is the only BTS member to be fluent in english which is a big help to them when they go to foreign countries. As a child, RM largely learned English by watching the American sitcom Friends with his mother. As a student, he actively wrote poetry and often received awards for his writing. He posted his work to an online poetry website for roughly one year, where he received moderate attention. He also has an iq of 148.
RM is the youngest and second most-credited songwriter in the association's history. With 213 songs attributed to his name as a songwriter and composer by the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), as of April 2023.
Park Jimin (Jimin)
Tumblr media
Jimin’s passion for dancing started at an early age. When he was in high school he learned contemporary dancing as a top student from Busan High School of Arts. Seeing his talent, one of his teachers suggested that he should audition for an entertainment company. With his talent, he successfully made it to Bighit. And now he has a networth of $8 million plus his collaboration with Dior which is $17 million. And a little fun fact is that Jimin is always teased by his younger member Jungkook because of his height. (174 cm)
Jimin's vocals have been described as delicate and sweet. He is regarded as an exceptional dancer among the members of BTS and in K-pop in general, often praised for his "smooth and elegant movements" and charm on stage. In the documentary Burn the Stage, Jimin addressed his perfectionism, stating that even the smallest mistakes on stage make him feel guilty and stressed.
Kim Taehyung (V)
Tumblr media
V, also known as Taehyung, first aspired to be a professional singer in elementary school. With his father's support, he began taking saxophone lessons in early middle school as a means of pursuing a musical career. V eventually became a trainee for Big Hit Entertainment after passing an audition in Daegu. He never actually intended to audition, he was just there to support his friend but I guess he was too good.
Jeon Jungkook (JK)
Tumblr media
The moment Jungkook saw Namjoon’s audition video for Bighit he knew he had to join. Jungkook is said to be Namjoon’s #1 Fan and joined the auditions because of him. Jungkook is the maknae of the group meaning he is the youngest and left his home for his dreams to become a superstar. And with that he now has an astonishing net worth of 20 million US dollars and is the ambassador of Calvin Klein.
Tumblr media
The group's success can be attributed to their unique sound, relatable lyrics, and dedicated fanbase known as ARMY (Adorable Representative MC for Youth). BTS fans have played a significant role in the group's success, and here are a few ways in which they have helped BTS:
Social Media Presence: BTS fans are known for their active presence on social media. They use platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok to share content related to BTS, such as music videos, pictures, and news. This helps to create buzz around the group and attract new fans.
Streaming: BTS fans actively stream the group's music on various platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. This not only helps to increase the group's streaming numbers but also helps to boost their rankings on music charts.
Voting: BTS fans participate in various online voting events to help the group win awards and recognition. They use their social media accounts to encourage other fans to vote, and this helps BTS to win awards and gain more exposure.
Fan Projects: ARMYs often organize fan projects to show their support for BTS. These projects include things like billboards, mass streaming parties, and charity donations. These efforts help to spread awareness about BTS and show the group how much their fans appreciate them.
Merchandise Sales: BTS fans are also known for their dedication to buying BTS merchandise. This helps to generate revenue for the group and shows record labels and other industry professionals that there is a demand for BTS-related products.
And here are some of my song recommendations for you to enjoy. <3

The Campbell. Located on Vanderbilt Avenue in the Grand Central Terminal, these four walls have seen many a lost traveler through many a late night. It calls to people with its expensive cocktails and candlelight ambiance. The bartenders know better than to speak with their patrons. They make the drinks strong and serve them with a small knowing smile. It’s the kind of place where you can feel the souls of the dreams that died in the cesspool that is New York City. Where someone would come to drink one more drink, before tucking their tail between their legs and returning to whatever po’dunk town they call home.
Olivia likes it here. A place to pretend that she doesn’t call this sleazy city home either. A place where she can pretend she is escaping all of the violence and pain she knows exists around every corner. Tonight, escaping the rape tree they found hanging in an abandoned apartment in the Fulton Houses. This is what has become of the city now, returning to its former ugliness of pre-Giuliani. Back before he was a raving lunatic. Back when he took credit for cleaning up the city, but that wasn’t him. That was her and her fellow officers, back when being a cop meant something more. Now she looks at the kids around her, good people aren’t taking over the watch. She feels as if she’ll never be able to retire. How is supposed to turn her job over to a bunch of misogynist, who want to abuse their power and go around shooting people. Olivia is not an idiot, she knows that cops have always had an abuse of power issue. But she also knows that, most people used to get into this line of work to actually help people. She doesn’t think that’s true anymore. Not after the summer of 2020. Not after watching too many of her brother officers kneel on necks. Maybe she should retire, she doesn’t want to be associated with them. She doesn’t want the world to think that she thinks George Floyd wasn’t murdered, because he was. And so were countless others, the names too numerous to remember clearly. She saw the videos of her brother officers deploying tear gas, and knocking over peaceful protesters. She saw reporters being arrested trying to cover their actions. She almost set her gun and shield on her desk and walked away right then. But something makes her stay. Maybe it’s her thirst for justice. Maybe it’s her fear of what happens to Manhattans rape survivors if she were to leave. Maybe it’s just that she doesn’t know how to do anything else. So she stands watch, and tries to change the culture of policing from the inside, as if it’s not alienating her from the rest of the good ole boys. She’s usually alone, when she’s in here this late, but not tonight. Tonight at three am, there’s her and a blonde. A blonde sitting at the end of the bar, nursing a whiskey. A blonde that she recognizes as America’s last great hope of 2020. Olivia walks to the opposite end of the bar and orders a bourbon, her drink of choice on nights like tonight.
Elizabeth has always liked this bar. She first came here when she was eighteen, taking her final train home from New York State. It made her feel grown up. Even though she wasn’t, even though she was only graduating person form Houghton to have to get home by themselves. She didn’t feel alone in here. Like Piano Man, every shares a drink called loneliness in this place. Elizabeth didn’t let Henry come with her today. For a reason she cannot place she’s ashamed of the award that sitting on the bar. The 2022 Human Rights Prize given to her by the UN. She doesn’t deserve it. It’s not the only award she’s gotten in this vein. Her early public career, starting when she left the CIA was rife with articles in newspapers across the country obliterating the Human Rights abuses being committed in the name of anti-terror. She’s slammed the far right for as long as she can remember. But somehow it was never enough. She watching her country fall to the modern Nazis. It sickens her, and she can’t fix it. She won popular vote, and she thinks about that a lot. She used to understand the Electoral College, but not anymore. After all it supposedly was invented to keep people like Owen Callister out of office. And now every morning when she reads the news, she wishes she had just won Arizona. That’s all she needed. She thought she had it clenched, with it being Morejon’s home state. Mike did too, it’s why they didn’t spend enough time there. But maybe she was never going to win, because the south was never going to give a woman that job. No one’s ever said as much to her, but she knows it to be true. She grew up there. People forget that about her, but she’s a daughter of the American South. She’s winning an award today for her work in human rights advancements in Manufacturing in Europe and Asia, as her own country removes books from classrooms. As her own country is passing laws to make child labor easier. As her own country is starting a witch hunt to murder trans people. No she didn’t deserve this award. She didn’t want to go accept it, she tried to send Mike to do it on her behalf. But Henry convinced her to. He thought she needed to be reminded that she has done good work. That not winning her election doesn’t mean she wasn’t good enough. But she wasn’t good enough. And this country that she was once willing to lay her life down for is no longer the same place. Or maybe, it was always bad, and she was too naive, or brainwashed to realize it.
Addison has never been in here before. But getting off the train, not quite ready to make her way to her hotel she saw it. It’s like it called to her. Come be angry here, it’s a good place for it. So she walks in, sharing the bar with two others who look as defeated as she feels. She’s exhausted. She’s spent the last six months constantly traveling. Testifying before state congresses and local town halls. Explaining why abortion care is a human right. Explaining why it’s important. Explaining to men, who aren’t actually going to listen to her, how it saves lives. It’s been for naught, their god has spoken, or they have spoken and chosen to blame their god. In every place she’s stopped, she trained other doctors on the lifesaving procedure that is the dilation and curettage. She’s listened to other OBGYNs cry to her about losing their patients to preventable and treatable conditions. But the men making these laws don’t actually care about the women who are dying. No matter how many times she says the phase that if mom dies, so the fetus. The baby, she makes sure to appeal to them in the way they want. Because ninety-nine percent of all surgical abortions she’s preformed have been on grieving mothers. Mothers who sobbed their way through the procedure as she removed their non-viable fetus. Mothers who had painted nurseys and picked out names. And the other one percent, the woman who didn’t know they were pregnant until late in the game. Who agonized over the decision. She wonders if the men know that, that once the test has two lines, every decision you make decision you make changes the course of your life. Addison knows this, she and Mark would have a teenager now, but she wasn’t ready to give up her marriage. But she doesn’t regret it, it lead her to where she is. She has her beautiful little boy Henry, and Jake. Jake the man of her dreams. But the men making the laws would call her a slut and a murderer. Would tell her that she didn’t deserve the happiness she has since found in motherhood. They want to rot in their hell.
They share the bar in silence for thirty minutes. At three-thirty the bar tender looks up.
“Last call ladies.” They each order one more drink, raising it in a silent toast to one another. Solidarity among them. The promise to go on and fight for at least one more day.

95th Academy Awards nominations reaction
I got up early this morning, typed some of these just after the nominations came out, and left it sitting in the drafts. Some personal reactions from me about today’s nominees:
Of the ten Best Picture nominees, I have seen five of them. This is the furthest ahead I’ve been at this point in awards season since 2019 (Avatar 2, Banshees, Elvis, EEAAO, Fabelmans). I do have my work cut out for me here. As of right now, I’m pretty much on the EEAAO train, but perhaps not as energetically as I’ve been for other movies in previous years. Partly due to the fact I can understand why people might dislike EEAAO intensely and partly because there are no 9/10 or 10/10 movies for me from 2022. At least from those I’ve seen. Fabelmans my second choice from those I’ve seen.
And now I have to watch two Top Gun movies. I’ve been avoiding the first for a long, long time having heard way too much about it and people saying it’s just not gonna be my thing. We’ll see over the next month.
Whoa. Where did Triangle of Sadness come from with both Picture and Director? That movie was divisive in some parts, and I’ve heard that it felt like an overlong lecture. The directors’ branch gonna directors’ branch, though - they always nominate one director out of left field. And this year, Ruben Östlund was that man.
Say it with me: in the Year of Our Lord, Anno Domini MMXXIII, we take Steven Spielberg and John Williams for granted. I think Spielberg has a shot at Director (and, as of this moment if I was a member of the Academy, I might just vote for him) and John gets his record-extending 53rd nomination (behind Walt Disney’s 59, and most by a living person). John’s count of five total Oscars (having last won 30 years ago) is too low. But the Academy members, I think, I have Oscar winners’ envy. John also becomes the oldest Academy Award nominee ever.
In any case, the other Original Score nominees this year are amelodic electronic background noise. Where is Simon Franglen for Avatar? Alexandre Desplat for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio?
All Quiet overperformed here, compared to what I expected. I know its haul of 14 BAFTA nominations was ridiculous, but I chalked that up to WWI being more prominent than in the U.S. - where most people don’t think about it much at all. I’ve not seen it, but I must say I have a lot of admiration for the 1930 original that won Best Picture. That All Quiet was the first sound masterpiece at a time when the silent-to-sound transition was still going on. I’m not sure how this one will stack up, having heard about some of the narrative changes they made to it.
Despite what has been widely reported, Michelle Yeoh becomes the second Best Actress nominee of Asian descent since Merle Oberon for The Dark Angel (1935). Oberon had to hide her Indian and Maori heritage due to safety reasons and we didn’t learn about this until after her death.
Also overjoyed to see Nighy, Michelle Williams, Ke Huy Quan, Hong Chau, and Stephanie Hsu all in the mix for acting. Best Actor features five first-time nominees for the first time in 88 years. Also, that’s four actors of Asian descent getting nominations! That’s a record!
Cartoon Saloon finally has the first blemish on their Academy Award nominations record. They were previously nominated for all of their movies - The Secret of Kells (2009), Song of the Sea (2014), The Breadwinner (2017), and Wolfwalkers (2020; which should have beaten Soul). My Father’s Dragon (2022) definitely was their weakest movie yet and, yeah, that didn’t deserve to be here. Hoping to see a return to form for the Kilkenny-based studio. You’ve got to think GdT’s Pinocchio now. No contest. I need to check out The Sea Beast, though.
What happened to RRR? Original Song only? Not a movie I’ve seen because I insist on watching it in the original Telugu, but my sense was that there was a divide in how it was received. In the West, with critics and audiences having very little idea about the nature of Indian cinema and its history, it was something different and refreshing and was well-received. In India, its use of Hindu iconography struck a chord of Modi-esque Hindu nationalism that has muted critical plaudits there. It’s an interesting dynamic, one that I doubt Westerners picked up at all.
I am so excited to see the short films, as always (and I write up on them too, you can see last year’s edition for Animated Short here). Those last two Animated Short nominees though? My Year of Dicks (not people named Richard, afaik) and An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It? What titles. Can’t wait! As I understand it, no major American studios were in play for Animated Short at the shortlist stage. So this should be a fun, independent filmmaker-driven slate.
The Batman should have found its way into cinematography.
Never count Diane Warren out for Original Song, no matter how obscure the movie! She’ll, of course, lose - as she unfortunately always does. 14 nominations for Warren. Glad she picked up the Honorary Oscar last year, though.
Lots of clamor about the decision to leave Decision to Leave out in International Feature. But the International Feature branch usually does very funny things, and I don’t think there has been a consensus at all in this category. All Quiet the odds-on favorite due to its significant haul of nominations, however.
Well, this should be a fun month! On this blog, “31 Days of Oscar” - my marathon based on Turner Classic Movies’ (TCM) marathon of the same name featuring only Oscar nominees and Honorary Oscar winners through the 95 years of Oscar history - is coming on March 1st!
