Suicidal ideation really hits differently in the 2020's.

It used to be personal. Like, "I have these problems in my life and I don't think I can solve / deal with them".

You might pull out a notebook and make a list of the pros & cons on whether it would be preferable to vacate this world early. AND THERE USED TO BE A PLETHORA OF THINGS TO PUT IN THE CONS LIST!!!

Things looked bad for YOU. INDIVIDUALLY. But the rest of the world offered so much promise. And you'd remind yourself that.

But now... we're in the 2020's.

I had a healthcare worker friend commit suicide last month. I immediately felt that she was in a better place now. And I don't believe in the afterlife. I just knew that she escaped this.

My dad passed away in January 2020. Another friend in February 2020. And I'm glad that they missed all this. I'm jealous.

Have I dealt with those things yet? NOPE! Still dealing with the daily horrors of this decade.

Looking at how many of the systemic problems we're collectively facing are NOT being addressed in ANY meaningful way, I know that these days will be seen as the "good old days" in the future.
