Han's only HALF lying when he said he n Chewie were traders on their way to Alderaan -- they had a smuggling mission to the planet and wrong place wrong time lol

Obi Wan was largely on Alderaan sorta protecting the twins but mostly meditating and moping in a faraway corner of the planet. BUT NOT TO WORRY while Alderaan does blow up (sad) a lot of people are able to evacuate bc Luke n Leia having a brief force hissy fit and incidentally messing w the death star buys people (bail, breha, and obi wan) enough time to do so

tbh possibly the funniest move nintendo has ever made was rereleasing sksw, The Timeline Game, like a year before totk, getting all the new botw fans obsessed with the timeline lore, and then fucking everything up with zero explanation in totk. i hope they never explain it i hope they just leave it like this forever

I'm already know for being very opinionated and having some Hot Takes, but I still usually keep it in line and fairly reasonable. Typical "Unpopular (but still somewhat safe to voice) Opinion" territory, where I might get some blocks and some scowls, but like, nothing major.

However I'm... gonna be posting an uncharacteristically rancid take this time.

I cannot fucking STAND vibes based design. Its become a trend lately to explain game systems by vibes, and it feels EXACTLY like the tropification of romance novels. A thing so many other people have complained about far more than I have, where so many works of fiction are now just being advertise as "Its a queer little slow burn, found family story that features enemies to lovers" OKAY, BUT WHATS THE FUCKING BOOK ABOUT?

And I feel like over the past 15-20 years, the TTRPG industry has been having the exact same issue. I can go through dozens of listings on itch.io for indie games and not see a single fucking game mechanic mentioned, and its frustrating. "This game is about gathering your friends to turn your local farm into a sustainable commune!" WHAT KIND OF FUCKING DICE DOES THE GAME USE? DOES THE GAME EVEN HAVE A GM?

And like, this isn't just about the feel good warm and fuzzy games. OSR is JUST as fucking guilty in this. "This game is a black metal death crawl through your worst nightmares." IS IT A RETROCLONE? IS IT A RULES LITE D6 SYSTEM? HOW THE FUCK DO I RESOLVE AN ACTION? DO ENEMIES USE STATBLOCKS?

If a video game showed absolutely no gameplay in any of its advertisements, only showing concept trailers and cutscenes and talking about its plot, you would probably shy away and think the game isn't worth playing if it can't even stand on the merits of its own gameplay. So why the fuck are we accepting that as the norm in TTRPGs?

#special shout out to Avery Alder #Avery I fucking love your games #The Quiet Year is one of my favorite games ever #its pretty much my go-to for any campaign of any kind to give players control over the worldbuilding pre-session 0 #BOB is so well designed and such a rad way to handle diceless/GM-less design #and I ABSOLUTE understand the need for queer designers like us to carve out a space and stand our ground #in a hobby that has historically housed people who want people like us dead in a ditch #but the idea that BOB can only support inherently queer/marginalized stories is ABSURD #and the way every BOB game advertises itself/is listed on your site makes me want to tear my skin off #please #you designed a game #AN INCREDIBLE ONE at that!#please please let it stand on the merits of its own design instead of just the vibe its built for #I was about to post this on my game design blog...#but I really dont have the heart to do that. I will start with the Top 100 anime as listed on Anilist, ranked by average score, and working my way down. From that list I will exclude movies (there's a blog for that!), specials, music, and OVA when relevant.

Alongside that, I will take requests via ask ! Just check in the top 100 first :)

Need to rant.

I spent an hour and a half working on The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. I only got 50 pages in. The reading is easy, but I’m annotating a LOT so it’s going super slow.

But I’m annotating a lot to remind myself of all the bullshit, so I can properly roast it. There are some good ideas and points in there but omg he sounds like an insufferable asshole writing a book for himself, ignoring that other people can have totally valid ways of being. Fatphobic undertones, implying there are definitely good values and like, limited ways to correctly prioritize them. I’m now 45% through. I am hate-reading at this point, and I’m torn between:

do I just want to finish it off quickly from here on out? (he has started going into specific things that are negative that he thinks everybody should value highly, versus talking more about his general philosophy)

Or do I want to keep going through slowly making notes ripping him apart.

On one hand: I’m definitely enraged and I kinda want it to end because it’s so irritatingly wrong. On the other hand: i want to give it such a scathing review because of its wrongness that I want to have everything wrong with it detailed meticulously because I enjoy that level of thoroughness.

I’m hoping there will be less to annotate tbh.

#seriously this dude is on such a high horse #he called everybody who feels less than adequate compared to peers entitled bc he assumed those people expect special treatment #nah some of us may not think we deserve anything at all and expect others around us to give 0 shits and treat us like they do everybody #he pretends like most people have a very shallow understanding of themselves #which is probs true #but the pretending is that he is like in the summit of Mt. Self Aware #when he is like 25% there and doesn’t go any further himself #confuses values and metrics #and while he says we can change both of those he basically only goes into why some values are bad and why his values now are the best #values are not good or bad inherently IMO #but sometimes we do confuse values and metrics #and something we say we value we actually are using as a metric for a different value #or like we have untrue thoughts about how to measure that value #I’ll do another ranty review when I’m done
