Working hard on the business!!

I had a lot of fun working on this piece that fits well as a companion to this one! I really, really enjoy Wuxi and Zishu's side hustle and think about it a lot.

More musings on this piece below!

I have been thinking a lot about Wuxi and Zishu's relationship for the past few months--working on the translation of Qiye has given me a fresh look and new perspective on it which I feel like elaborating on for a bit.

While they come from very different place and are 5 years apart in age, Wuxi and Zishu seem to rather quickly relate to each other due to both being outsiders--to the capital and its codes. It's very sweet to see how quickly Wuxi seems intrigued and interested in Zishu, wanting to know more about him and quick to react when he's around.

Beiyuan is Wuxi's only friend so far, and I think it's very refreshing for Wuxi to find another person with whom he may be able to relate more on some regards, and whom he can look up to in terms of martial arts skills and craftiness. This is a personal HC of mine, but I sort of see Wuxi as having this sort of (fully platonic) "cool older guy crush" on Zishu.

Because of that, I feel like Zishu showing interest in Wuxi and going as far as to offer him to collaborate must have been incredibly validating and exciting. It was a way for Wuxi to be more independent, do something for himself aside from his own training, aside from his role as the young shaman of Nanjiang. Something for his own experimentation and profit--be useful, but also be shown respect and interest by someone he himself is interested in and respects.

I like to imagine that Zishu was already interested in poisons given his field of work and potentially learned a thing or two about that back in Siji manor--even potentially worked on some of his own, and was therefore more than excited to be able to figure out new things with Wuxi's help. On top of that, it must have been pretty fun and gratifying to work on this side hustle which in turn also helped gain some more control over the population (welp).

So yeah! It's nice to think more about what lead to the bond they have, and I can't help but think of how affected Wuxi must have been in TYK when he discovers Zishu's state several years later. Regardless of how helpful Zishu was when Wuxi worked to get Beiyuan out of the capital, he was a friend first and foremost and that alone must be a big reason why Wuxi is so determined to find a way to save him.

(that aside, the illustration was more fun to make than I initially feared. I usually don't like having to work on a ton of tiny details LOL but somehow the atmosphere here made it entertaining!)

(btw! I don't know if I mentioned it before, but in case I didn't: I transliterate "Wuxi" as such ((in one word)) because, him not being han, it feels more right to transliterate his name in a non-han fashion as well. It's unlikely that his family name is Wu and first name is Xi--rather, Nanjiang/Wasa names seem to work differently ((same for Axinlai and Nuaha)) than the typically han family name-first name model. Packin' heat

Y'know, part of their police procedures is that you have to be wearing an identifiable police uniform if you're carrying a gun. Since Adachi is a so-called plainclothes detective, he wouldn't actually carry a gun on him. It would stay locked up at HQ and he would have to get permission to bring it with him on cases.

Like, remember how he didn't just whip out his service pistol during Rise's stalker / photographer incident? He wouldn't have one on him to begin with, and he wouldn't try to get permission if he thought he was just going to babysit Dojima's nephew. One would assume he has a gun in December because it's one of his model guns that he rigged to fire, or he just took it from the station without anyone knowing (Dojima had been hospitalized since November after all).

In December, he has a line inside of the TV where he says he became a cop so he could legally carry a gun. For a little context, you can't own a gun there as a civilian. We do know from P4U2 that Adachi does like guns and has various model guns that he does maintenance as a hobby on 'cause he can't take his service pistol home with him.

But, even knowing this, what he says in December feels a little nonsensical. Cause at some point in his career, he decided to become an investigative detective in a country where you don't carry around any sort of weapon as an investigative detective. Idk, I just can't take him seriously when he says that lol. He even says it in the TV world when he's in "B-movie bad guy mode" and trying to make himself out to be the Worst Person Ever.

In contrast, the uniformed Officer Kurosawa in Persona 3 would have a gun. Actually, I assume the black/gray object on his right hip - that you really have to squint at this screenshot to even notice - is his holster. He's stationed at a satellite police station in the mall and would be expected to respond to incidents that happen in the area, which may or may not involve using a baton or gun on a suspect.

Soejima's rough drafts reveal something about this topic and Atlus's process.

In Soejima's draft of Dojima, we see that Soejima did draw him with a gun holster on his left. But in Dojima's finalized full body character artwork, this magically vanished. Soejima - or whoever gave him specs for what Dojima's design needed - might have assumed that plainclothes detectives do carry guns but this later got corrected and we see this reflected in Dojima's finalized artwork. Adachi's own art is pretty useless for this cause he's always wearing a jacket, but I found this notable regardless cause Adachi and Dojima do share the same profession.

Edit: If you are wondering why Naoto has a gun, I have no idea lmao. That seems more about Naoto being a party member and needing a weapon for combat than it does any kind of basis in reality. Like at first we only see her with it inside of the TV, so it just seems like "a TV world thing". But I've been told that in Persona Q it's revealed to be an actual real working gun? Welp okay boss if you say so.

Welp, the ref lineup still isn’t done cause I haven’t drawn Shion yet, and the belated valentines I’ve been working on are gonna be like at least a month late cause I just planned three more, but what I did do these past couple weeks is start writing a fanfic and then immediately abandon it to go draw a bunch of only tangentially-related suzutsubas (except for that first pic; that’s a scene from it, albeit one I haven’t written yet), only half of which are fit for public posting (one of ‘em I could make a few edits and feel ok about posting sometime; it’s not that out there, it’s just, y’know. Hamal Cine Bad End Hyperbolic Torture Chamber. I’m usually very “whatever happens happens” about my art but if I don’t show some restraint I know I’ll end up stuck in there forever), but hey, since I’ve been teasing them for ages and finally have some finished stuff with them, take a couple Suzumii! Also gonna ramble abt headcanons under the cut (and it will be LONG)

To begin, a note abt my Len’en gender/pronoun headcanons: as a they/them preferrer myself, I’m thrilled that most people just stick with those for everyone, but I’ve developed some more detailed headcanons as I go through working on designs and I’ll generally be using those. Don’t worry though, most of them are still nonbinary and basically all of them are trans/gq. Relevant ones for this post are Tsubakura: they/them nonbinary (transmasc to some degree) and Suzumi: cis female, question mark?? (to be elaborated on); for clarity’s sake I usually use she/her for Arde and Hamal Cine individually and plural they for the system collectively (also I don’t usually use their nicknames, dunno why), but singular they for Benet (the wiki says Benny is probably short for Benetnasch so I’m assuming that’s their actual name) for reasons which will also be elaborated on (sort of).

Aaalso this clearly isn’t autobiographical or anything but I think I’m subconsciously putting a lot of myself into Suzumi because 1) we do look pretty similar (brown wavy bob + blue eyes) and 2) given their current status as both the main antagonist and the most well-known plural Len’en character (I get the impression that Hooaka also being plural isn’t super common knowledge; I mean it took me several read-throughs of their wiki page and their dialogue with BPoHC Secret Team to get what they were getting at lol) I am probably way too anxious about doing a bad stereotype. Just an observation and also probably partially why I’ve even ended up with so much headcanon for them in the first place

And before I get into the thick of it, notes on derivations from canon: I’m running with the assumption that Suzumi being a system is a relatively recent development tied to whatever incident it was that caused the falling-out, since Tsubakura is like the only person who seems at all familiar with Hamal (including Mitori/Chouki/Fumikado, but they’re more easily explained away as just having met with one of the other alters the few times they’ve interacted) even though she’s supposedly usually the one fronting. They don’t seem to know the mechanics of it though, judging by their confusion when Arde implied that she and Hamal are different people. So basically, I’ll be referring to pre-incident Suzumi as a different character from any of the other three. (Ngl I am very influenced by Dissociation Constant on that and just in general [when will my wife The One and Only Suzutsuba Fic return from the war…..]) I was also debating whether to have Suzumi have any history with the gang before starting to work at the lab/whether stuff would happen around high school or college age, cause they keep referring to everything happening “a long time ago” and I know I, a 24-year-old, feel like stuff that happened five years ago was like yesterday, but I do have the pandemic and not really doing much of anything for most of that time to reckon with so like, eh. College age makes more sense in my head and so does the dynamic of like, Suzumi was only introduced into the friend group (she was acquainted w Hoojiro and Yabu already though bc lab) because she was dating Tsubakura and since that ended, and badly (understatement of the century), they have extremely little reason to be civil with each other and also interacting at all is really awkward.

Ok now on with it! Either end of high school or beginning of college, Suzumi ends up interning at Tsubakura’s lab for college credit (Tsuba’s already practically a department head despite being like 17 or something because. Idk. Who even knows what’s up with them) and she’s like. Only wears t-shirts and jeans (bought a bunch of khakis for this job though), [reading] glasses from the men’s section, hates leaving her hair down (it’s lab safety anyways). Repressed queer in denial, you know the type. Starts interacting a lot with Mx. Tsubakura “wears short shorts that everybody thinks are actually a skirt and also uses ore and omae almost exclusively” Enraku who seems to have everything all figured out and is immediately starstruck (GIRL WHY?? they are such a mess). Lots of “do I want to date them or do I want to be them” confusion (this will be relevant later); eventually evolves into the “am I trans or just a lesbian” question (not that they would need to be attracted to women to be into Tsubakura but you get the picture), which never quite gets answered.

In any case, they do eventually start dating (Tsubakura thinks she’s cute and smart so they reciprocate), and they’re not like super great together cause Tsubakura is emotionally constipated at the best of times (Suzumi’s into that though) and neither of them are the most mentally/emotionally healthy people even back then and also Tsubakura is more or less Suzumi’s boss which is weird, but they’re kind of ok??? Tsubakura’s mom dies at some point, also they move in together (college housing is expensive), the rest of the crew at the very least tolerate Suzumi, etcetera.

And then…! [insert catastrophic event here]!! I don’t have a shot to call on this yet cause I have no idea what it could’ve been (and I’m sure it’ll get revealed at some point anyways); I’m just banking on it being something extremely not mundane and something where you could reasonably set the blame on either (or neither) party cause they sure both seem convinced the other is way worse, huh! In Tsubakura’s case at least, blaming Suzumi is partially a defense mechanism so their self-loathing doesn’t get the better of them over it (guess what the fic was supposed to be about, lol).

The worst part of all this business though is that they DON’T break up over it immediately and it just makes everything orders of magnitude worse for everyone involved. Tsubakura and Arde have hate sex MORE THAN ONCE………… they would both really rather forget about it. Hamal thinks it’s hilarious, ofc, but the less said about her, the better. And Benet… exists??? The only idea that I’m running off of for them atm is the observation that I think they’re the only character with flat black eyes other than Tsubakura/Tsurubami and the subsequent idle thought, “hey if someone malded so hard about a breakup that they ended up with an introject of their ex would that be messed up or what?” So make of that what you will. (Oh and it may have been obvious that this is what I was going for but Hamal is femme and Arde is butch and they’re constantly squabbling abt aesthetic presentation. Having Arde be straight-up male would’ve been too straightforward of an interpretation and I think it’s funnier this way)

The canonically mentioned murder attempts start taking place and I’m leaning towards Tsubakura eventually being convinced to move out even though it was originally their apartment, albeit mostly just because the wikipedia page for house sparrows mentions that they’re known to take over swallows’ nests, usually after they’ve been abandoned, but they will sometimes drive away or kill the current occupants, and that was a very fun fact to come across when specifically doing research for Len’en but idk how else to incorporate it lol. And so on and so forth up until the present time.

Uhhh is that all I have atm? I think so! Anyway, I think I finally shook out all my suzutsuba doodles (and rambling, though I do still have that fic to work on. idk whether I’ll be able to finish it though; I started strong with an extended metaphor in the middle but Iiiii’m not sure if I can successfully write my way up to it while making it make sense. Also I may draw pretty slow but I write even slower!! Eh I’m sure I’ll post some of it sometime) for the time being so I should theoretically be able to finish up my bigger projects now. Maybe I’ll have the valentines ready in time for white day? We’ll see!

YouTube 2023 Year in Review

Welp! Guess it's that time of year again. I'm sure 2023 has been a...pretty interesting year to say for quite a few people. And for me personally, it's also been a weird little year that's great in some parts and could be better in others.

What have I been up to?

My life right now is kinda divided into three parts:

A) the "IRL" stuff, as in working on my editing day job and spending time with family.

B) working on YouTube videos which I still have the passion for,

and C) playing video games, collecting cool things and socializing with my online friends.

I've always felt that it's difficult for me to put equal attention to all three, and lately, it definitely feels like I'm focusing on 'A' and 'C' more. Of course, my day job is kinda how I make a living at the moment so that obviously gets priority, but that doesn't mean I want to ignore my YouTube stuff! It's just hard to sneak in a few lines of script-writing while multitasking at a day job, and only being able to freely spend time on 'B' and 'C' during night isn't the most productive way to go about things, especially with other things that aren't YouTube production. I also have games I want to play, art I want to draw, folks I'd like to hang out with etc.

And that's a fine, healthy way of going about things online for regular folks! But I don't want my YouTube channel to stagnate as a result of this, because I still love making videos! I have support from folks on Patreon, and I still hope to continue growing the channel so that it becomes more sustainable to do frequent updates.

Part of me has always thought about just quitting my day job once I have a decent amount of money saved up and just try doing YouTube full-time and rely on Patreon, even if there's a very low chance it'd be sustainable. Of course, that's a big gamble, and I'm not truly sure if that's really the best way to go about things. But those are just my inner thoughts and I've rambled long enough...

So, I apologize for the above situation sort of being the root cause of the recent slower pace of my YouTube channel! The pace of the channel this year is about the same as in 2022, if not a little slower. I didn't really get a lot of dormant scripts from 2020-2021 off the ground, but being true to what I said in last year's Year in Review, I did end up working on a lot of spontaneous ideas even if there wasn't a "big" core video! In fact, I think almost every video released in 2023 that we'll discuss below were spontaneous ideas.

I'll talk more about what's to come for the channel in the end of the post, but for now, as usual, we'll take a look at each video I made during 2023 and I'll share my thoughts and some fun facts about each!

A Trip to the Hong Kong Kirby Pop-Up Store

Various things were put up on the channel from January to March, including a funny little short for Mario Day and a new trailer for a revamped Patreon, but the major thing I put out was a look at the Kirby Pop-Up Store in Hong Kong! This was my first time doing a scripted documentation of an in-person event, and Nintendo Hong Kong would eventually do more events like Nintendo Live 2023 Hong Kong, and I'll definitely be talking about them on my channel eventually!

As for fun facts...uhh...I suppose Patreon patrons get to see the full unedited raw footage I took from the event lol

Top 10 Nintendo Trivia You NEVER Knew

This year's April Fools video...was also a last-minute sort of idea, if I recall correctly! The concept is simple: it's a parody of generic Top 10 trivia videos in terms of presentation, but the curveball is instead of just doing other blatantly obvious fun facts, the facts would actually be super obscure, inconsequential Nintendo facts that barely anyone would've known about, so in the end it's kind of a legit trivia video in a twisted way. The facts in the video were sourced from new research, me asking friends for suggestions and some of my old posts on Twitter, so there were a few 'fun' facts that were left on the cutting room floor, and here's a good place to share them!

In an early version of the GameCube instruction manual, Mario 64 was used as a placeholder game

The infamous 'black box' in Super Mario 64 DS is not a visual glitch as commonly believed, and briefly appears in E3 2004 footage

Prototype screenshots of Mario 64 have appeared in an early print of the game's box art...and on a Nintendo Monopoly board in 2006 (next to the ? Block on the right side of the board if you're looking)

The Onion in Hey! Pikmin has white and purple in its colors, even though white and purple Pikmin never appear in the game

The original 3DS had two separate sets of black & white colors, for some reason

And to finally come clean...yes, around 30% of the video's script was generated using ChatGPT, as part of the joke. Mostly the introductory bits at the beginning of each segment, since it definitely did not give me the results I wanted when I asked it to describe the specific details of each fact, so y'know, hopefully that's a sign it's not coming for my job of talking about obscure Nintendo things! And don't worry, this will probably be the only time I ever use AI in my videos.

The Better N64 Wavebird Experience

This is a follow-up to a 2021 video where I also used the N64 Switch Online controller on an original N64, albeit with a different adapter! This actually isn't a case where I received a free product to do a review on, I just happened to read about a better alternative, pre-ordered it online, it arrived in April and I decided to knock out a quick review/comparison video in 2 days!

As such, this is more of standard informative review video, but in all honesty, I still really like this setup, and it's in my opinion still one of the best controller options for original N64 games. So much so, that I recently completed my NSO controller collection by picking up a Sega Mega Drive 6-button NSO controller to eventually use with my original Mega Drive! I'm still looking for the compatible 8bitDo adapter though, so maybe when I eventually do, that can be a quick little video on the Plus channel for patrons!

The Most Expensive amiibo

This is my favorite video I put out this year! The Qbby amiibo has always been in my sights for a while, and I've gone on record saying that I'd make a video on it if I got my hands on one.

Back in 2019, I once saw a Qbby amiibo being offered on Yahoo Auctions for a relatively cheap price, but to afford it I asked for extra donations via Ko-fi. Looking back on it now there were probably better options I could've taken, but either way the listing got cancelled and I refunded everyone who donated for that. Then sometime later I saw another relatively cheap BOXBOY package in a local listing, but then the seller never replied and deleted the listing, so the amiibo has eluded me until now, and there seems to be no signs of Qbby stock going down any time soon. My hope for a Qbby reprint continues, and hopefully this video still serve as a little awareness boost for folks who are wondering why he's one of the most expensive amiibo around!

Some of the gag editing on this one got spruced up a little bit which I enjoyed doing, but you also probably noticed that I got a turntable specifically for those glamour shots! ...yeah, I'll probably get more use of that thing later on as well.

The Kirby Battle Royale online joke wasn't exaggeration: I couldn't find anyone to play online with! I suppose that is to be expected for, y'know, playing a mid 3DS game in 2023, but it's a shame that Kirby Battle Royale doesn't at least offer a option to play with friends, and from some experimentation, it seems that two of my US-based friends were able to match with each other online while I couldn't, which also suggested some region-based matchmaking was at play. Oh well! There are some better 3DS games out there that I'd still like to play online one last time before their servers shut down this April.

Tetris...on a McDonald's Nugget

Continuing the trend of 'make video on a recent find' for the third video in a row, it's the China-exclusive McDonald's Tetris Chicken McNugget! For an unscripted Things of Interest video, it turned out pretty well, kinda like the Rhythm Tengoku arcade video in 2022! Compared to the first unscripted TOI back in like 2018, I've definitely gotten a bit better at rambling since.

I was kind of a few days late to the party, and some other videos about the Tetris Nugget from larger channels have racked up more views since, but that's not really the point! As a casual Tetris fan that happens to be in proximity to mainland China, something as bizarre as this is totally right up my alley. Covering China-exclusive gaming stuff just kinda reminds me that I have yet to do a video on the iQue Player though, which I really want to...

FlashBoy Plus: The $95 Virtual Boy Flashcart

I haven't really taken a YouTube sponsorship deal yet, but I do get emails about doing reviews or ad reads of items on occasion, like new Switch gaming accessories from different third parties and whatnot. Unfortunately, that's not really the type of stuff I do regularly on the channel unless I find a great angle to tackle it from, so the only review offer I've done on the channel until now is a limited Switch physical release in 2020.

When I was offered to review the FlashBoy Plus, I was definitely intrigued despite having already previously covered the HyperFlash 32, a technically better option! Virtual Boy flashcarts are already a very niche thing, so I gladly took the opportunity to take a look at any new option out there, and even if it's not a mainstream topic at all it does kinda appeal to me specifically.

In the video, I mentioned the (very cool looking) clear cartridge shell was not a publicly available option yet at the time of the review, but looking at the order site now, it has been added since! So hey, good for them! It is honestly pretty sick to have a transparent Virtual Boy cartridge.

Playing PC Games with the SNES Mouse & Famicom Keyboard

I started work on the next core video right after the FlashBoy Plus video (more on that in the last section), but getting sick during early December forced me to delay it, so for that month I decided to do one last spontaneous idea: a followup to the 2021 video where I used the Famicom keyboard and SNES Mouse on a computer...but this time on a proper PC!

A thing that was brought up in the comments was one setting in particular: when I was changing the mouse settings in the Control Panel, there was a 'Enhance pointer precision' option that I didn't uncheck, which presumably slows down the mouse for precise movements. There wasn't a super noticeable difference when I unchecked it during further testing, but when I coupled it with further increasing the mouse sensitivity in games that allow you to change it in-game, I was actually able to get the SNES Mouse to move at a decent pace in some games! Of course, that requires tweaking with additional settings that would normally be overkill for a regular mouse, so it's still not practical, but at least there was a setup that would alleviate some of my complaints in the video.

The fuuuuture

Okay, so what's next for 2023?

I mean 2024. Oh god the typos are already starting.

Right before the FlashBoy Plus video came out, in late June 2023, I did a video topic poll on Patreon, asking what idea I should do next. Out of the four options given, one of them is a continuation of a limbo project from 2021, and the other three were spontaneous new core video ideas I came up with and wanted to do.

Well, one of the spontaneous new ideas won the poll, so the next core video is...

A look at the camera and sound apps on both the Nintendo DSi and 3DS! I originally wanted to get this out in December, and you all know what happened to that plan, BUT the script is done, the VO recording is done, footage recording is well underway and I am confident I'll be able to get it out this January. I really like how the script for this one shaped up and am commissioning some banger thumbnail art for it (🐦), so I REALLY hope you'll look forward to it!

Afterwards, there are a few in-progress ideas that I also want to work on for quick videos afterwards. As mentioned above, I visited Nintendo Live 2023 Hong Kong which was hosted on November, and ALSO the Nintendo Hong Kong Pop-Up Store which is running from December to January, so both of those would make for a perfect video in a similar vein as the Kirby Pop-Up Store video last year!

I also went on a trip to Japan last August, and took quite a bit of photos and footage. I still want to share my findings and experiences of being in Tokyo for the first time that I could remember, so there will be a fun little piece about that going on the Plus channel in the future!

Idk if i shared this but MayNot was the first name i came up with the ship. But someone from the IMserver came u with WitchBrew so i went with it (they were so brilliant with the name, kudos to them, i love it)

Mayhem occasionally uses Not-Cup's head for brewing potions, Not-Cup is either annoyed cuz it smells so good and she uses his head as a cauldron or likes it because Mayhem trusts him with her shit.

Actually the 'potions' shes brewing on his head are actually... just random drinks she wants to try from our world (i headcanon she has some sort of 4th wall breaking ability) Not-Cup wonders what the cuss is she making XD and is curious but Mayhem slaps his hand "Hey hey! No touching! Tsk tsk!"

(actually idek if mayhem does brew potions like a normal witch 💀)

If there's a fight going on, Mayhem would throw runes (her magic aura is lime green) while Not-Cup shoots pink bullets. They fight opponents synchronously that they throw attacks one after the another, not leaving a chance for their opponent to breathe

Not-cup wonders why is she winking at the emptiness but laughs at it annyways (mayhem was communicating with the audience)

They like to throw hands at each other and fight but theyre not serious about killing each other

"Hmm why do you need this straw?" *Grabs Not-Cup's straw and examines it with an intrigued and questioning expression*

"Hey hey hey hey! No grabbing!" *Tries to grab back his straw from mayhem* "I need that!"

They had this convo multiple times

Mayhem is the peculiar one while Not-Cup just went with her flow~ and they like to annoy each other. Not-cup initiates pranks but it backfires cuz Mayhem got smth better

Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc. I think I always bring out a nurturing element to any iteration of Loki I write, no matter how intense or not-soft the incarnation is. I find that sort of thing in a man irresistible. Guess that's why I married someone who specializes in the pediatric side of dentistry. Mr. L is more maternal than I am lol

It's my first multi-chapter fic to not feature Loki in any way, but it's a six-part miniseries about love being SnappedTM out of existence, renewed hope, and a love triangle featuring Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, so there's that. It's going to be a bit lower-action, higher-drama.

🤗 What advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started? Follow your daydreams, and if the plot sounds too dramatic, it probably isn't dramatic enough.

🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them. For me or you? I'm going to assume for me, and it's Loki. I think my favorite minor headcanon is that Loki is a man who loves scented oil being massaged all over his back, and that his favorite scent is lavender.

Like, I need to back off the mad climaxes for a while, they are pretty exhausting to write.

You can't deploy a werepire without giving him someone to FUCK. You can't give me the brother of noted fuck machines Lachlain and Garreth MacRieve without giving me the ACTION.

Anyway, try:

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. These are obviously like. As RIDIC as you've heard. They are also. DELIGHTFUL! Just broads landing on planet Blue Big Dick (CW: there are bad aliens in the first book and they do rape women largely offpage) and putting these weird little worms in their chests to live and the warms going "la la la" and then the big blue alien men having worms that go "tra la la" and when your worms sing to each other you gotta FUCK and be together forever like it or not??? He'll die for you and your worm???? Listen, I read like 6 in a row last year and then I had to stop and pretty soon I'm gonna read some fucking more.

Favorites include: Barbarian Alien (#2, heroine is all "Jesus Christ I hate this alien guy" and he's all "OMG IT'S HER" and kidnaps her away to his cave, as you do, which is controversial because he's from a noted line of kidnappers and the other aliens are all D: about it but then she teaches him how to fuck, should mention that most of these aliens are hardcore virgins), Barbarian Mine (#4, everyone who reads this is gonna think differently of me because the hero is like Ice Planet Tarzan because he grew up in the wastelands all alone and his dad died when he was young so he didn't even really learn how to talk like an alien, and he doesn't even VAGUELY know what sex is, and she has to.... teach him things........... the heart wants what it wants okay) and Barbarian's Mate (#6, the one where the heroine had an IUD the whole time so her chest worm wasn't working and then her IUD falls out and her chest worm is all "LA LA LA" at the most annoying, dickish alien's chest worm and they're both like "OH FUCK NO" but then they go on adventure together, and it's soooo good)

The Winter King by C.L. Wilson--Fun fact, the arranged marriage fantasy romance I keep recommending is actually a fated mates book! The hero isn't just Elsa But Hot Man, he's also descended from wolves, so he can SCENT her, and when he scents her for the first time it's actually quite aggressive and his friend is present and goes "buddy, please stop touching her nipple this seems like a crime". It's the mating bond!!!

The Sea King by C.L. Wilson--Next book in the series, goes fated mates even harder because the hero is a merman Aquaman type from a matriarchal kingdom who was trained in the seductive arts and meets the heroine and KNOWS lol. And he's determined to wife her up. CW: sexual assault, not from the hero.

Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh--I've only read the first two books in this series, but they're good, and they're all following the fated mate format. This one is about a heroine who's from like this Vulcan sort of psychic mind freak society, and her fated mate turns out to be a verrrrrry earthy shapeshifter guy who's like "welp. Sadly it's her".

Laura Thalassa's Four Horsemen series has a very fated mate vibe. It's not explicitly stated, but all of the four horsemen basically get thrown off once they meet Her and then their entire game is ruined lmao. The series has some things.... I find.... Less than great. But I remember really enjoying Pestilence and Death, War and Famine are foggier to me.

The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson is omegaverse but make it a contemporary romcom. Full fated mates shit. He makes her call him alpha while he's plowing her in the woods. They live in a better society.

I said at the end of my big Devil Theory Headcanons post that I would "hiberate" for a while. I did genuinely meant that as taking a break from BRC fan art to do other stuff, but well, that didn't work out because I ended up making OCs!!

Inspired by other people's designs for unique cyberheads, like this set and these designs, I was thinking, "Ooo, imagine someone having a cyberhead that looks like a plague doctor's mask!" That lead to Rook (the top two pics) and then eventually a whole crew for her, lol

(More rambling under the cut!)

Note that I tried using copy-paste and warping to make the turnarounds easier to draw. That... did not work out as well as I hoped, I can see some stuff that are off about the turnarounds, oops. Welp lesson learned!! Anyways.

I have "Umbra Apex" in quotes since I'm noooot 100% sure if I wanna go with that name? Or even continue to develop these OCs after this. Still, I think I might stick with Umbra Apex as the crew name just because it's probably the best name I could come up with lol

Rook of course is a cyberhead, but the rest of her crew are just wearing masks (designed to be combos of plague doctor masks and gas masks).

The crew is sort of a reverse situation as FUTURISM. Rook is a lady but the rest of her crew are all guys.

The default movestyles for the whole crew are inline skates.

The regular crew's outfits are inspired by cybergoth fashion.

Rook's coat is inspired by a very specific music video. If you know, then you know. :u

Rook's top hat is mainly meant to be a pun. "Rook" is a type of corvid, but also, y'know, the chess piece too lol

The rest of the crew are also named after corvids too of course. I probably should have labeled them as Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter too to match the in game alts, but whatever, just assume they're in the same order too! :P

Rook is a tall lady and the rest are pretty short (in comparison to her at least?)

So yeah, that's about it! For now? Maybe, I dunno.

Lucille is a black lesbian successful trans woman/future magic council-woman, Mara is a japanese-american hard-headed/bold sapphic woman/future professional magical athlete, and Sabrina is a plus-size queer woman/future professional magical plants necromancer! They're in my twist on Harry Potter universe, where they all go to magical university, and the point is that Mara and Lucille are infamous school rivals, but then fall in love/fall in love with Sabrina too! A magical gay polycule if u will, I've written 2 short stories about them for my fiction class so far!

Also, since it's prom themed, I made it a kinda guestbook/sign book so gallery viewers can get some glitter pens I left out to sign the end of it! I also have a playlist I made playing in the gallery along with it so it's like what they'd play at this prom! :) hope that made sense!

The content is that the girl you see walking around in white is getting social anxiety/stressed out, to the point of dissociating, as a way of doing my theme I've kept up for university of things appearing darker than they initially look (hence the colors + I love colors), and to bring awareness to mental health!

Okay so before I forget and deprive the phandom of this idea, here's the dream I had last night:

Danny got tired of Valerie trying to kill him without giving him a chance to explain his side of the story, so in the middle of the fight he flew up and grabbed her and just started flying straight up as fast as he could.

His idea was that if she saw the stars from outer space, she'd be so awestruck she'd just have to give him the chance to sort out the various misunderstandings that have lead to her hating his guts - Cujo isn't his dog, he's the ghost of one of Axiom Labs(?) own guard dogs that was put down, and he's latched onto Danny through no fault of his own. He was not trying to kill her when he blasted apart her suit - he already knew she wasn't in there, and it was trying to kill him. He does not want to hurt her or fight her, and he doesn't mean her or anyone else any harm.

Her suit will keep supplying her with oxygen and warmth, but the cold will make the outside hard to move, so she won't be able to attack him, just listen.

Surely, this is the world's greatest plan, right? Surely no one can get to look out into space without the atmosphere or light pollution in the way and decide to turn away to fight someone who doesn't want to fight, right?

Welp. Things were going fine, all according to plan, until Danny's powers randomly decided to short out just as they were about to leave Earth's atmosphere.

Danny transformed back, and couldn't transform again. Valie's suit was already frozen on the outside, so she couldn't move to do anything.

They started to fall.

And kept falling.

Luckily for both of them, Danny's powers decided to start functioning again just a few seconds before they hit the ground.

He was too panicked to turn intangible, and so his ghost half reacted instinctively, using some new power he'd never known he had before.

He turned into a puddle of goo that absorbed the shock of their fall - but both of them were still knocked completely unconscious.

Danny woke up first. And found himself in a hospital room. And found himself in Valerie's body. And he couldn't leave. This wasn't overshadowing, this was something else.

And then Valerie woke up.

And they realized (after much shouting and panicking) that Danny was somehow trapped in her body, but they both had control. They couldn't read eachother's thoughts, no, that would be too convenient, and Danny's powers are never convenient - they had to speak out loud in order to talk to eachother.

They learned when Valerie's dad came in that they'd been unconcious for several days, and Danny was missing. Now that Valerie knew Danny's secret identity, she knew why.

According to the dream, this situation was never resolved. They stayed stuck together until Valerie died as an old woman.

Stuck like this, they could still "go ghost", but it wasn't Danny Phantom that formed, it was some mix up of Phantom and Valerie, with an entirely new set of powers to contend with on top of Danny's original set.

At some point they managed to bring Jack and Maddy around enough to listen without immediately leaping for their anti ghost weapons, and got Valerie's dad to listen without immediately trying to move out of the entire state.

so yeah. Here's the story my dream told me. Have fun. Please feel free to write or make art for this, lol, my brain's the one who came up with it, not me.

anyways they did in fact live happily ever after, since now they actually had time to talk through their problems and misunderstandings, and there's literally no way they can go into danger without inherently endangering the other, so they both learned to trust eachother and trust eachother to make the right decision, even if that decision means volunteering to be in danger to protect others.

It was great.

Tobias / Casey - At least musically, I HC that he has a beautiful singing voice, and he's not afraid to use it on Casey. lol He's also an art collector, which makes sense since his mother, Vivian, is an artist and an art broker. Casey wishes she was more talented artistically, but she's not lol

Ethan / Kaycee - For the longest time, the answer was neither. But when Ethan is instructed to find a hobby to reduce stress, he takes up painting and comes to learn he's quite good at it. Once he retires, he does it quite a bit, even sells some in a little shop by their beach home in Sandwich.

Trystan / Carolina - Hmm. No clue? Never gave this a lot of thought, but I'm going to say, Carolina solely because I HC her being a photographer. It started to assist with her work, but she ended up doing it as a hobby as well.

Eli / Zoe - Per canon, she's an excellent drawer, and that worked right into my world. I HC Eli's late brother, David, was an artist, and it's sort of a nice little connection.

Eli & Zoe: Welp - no grocery stores by them - so - but if there were, Zoe would be a total child - Eli would be all frustrated and telling her to stop - but he'd be just as bad by the time they left. :)

So the reveal trailer just dropped. Got some thoughts running in my mind and here's a few of them:

So, the rumors are true. Julian Kostov is Makarov. And I'm not sure how to feel about it.

Am I happy they still (yes people. he has always been attractive. go look up his concept art) choose to make him hot? Of course. Grateful even. I pretty much swore if they pull a Shepherd makeover on him, I'll lose it. However, am I happy with how he looks? Not really. Was hoping they cast someone that, while not necessarily have to look the exact the same as OG Makarov, at least have the same vibe. (Idk how to describe it but yeah I hope it makes sense lmao)

Idk what age Activision intends to make him (mid 30s? early 40s?), but that man looks late 20s 😭 . I'm not saying he looks.. what's the word? boyish? but yeah something similar I guess.

I know Activision must've noticed the hype of making villains hot, and I agree with that thought but why they made him "pretty boy" looks?

For me, Makarov have the appearance of "unconventionally attractive". He have that sort of rugged face with scars all over, dead predatory bicolor eyes. Basically, dude actually looks kinda old and you can get the hint that he was a veteran. Unless Actvision really do intends on making the new him younger and have a different past, well okay then. Also, I know the lighting wasn't that good in that prison, but it seems like he no longer had heterochromia. Welp.

Speaking of veteran, I'm curious if they choose to keep his past the same as before. Was he in the army? Was he ex-Spetsnaz Captain? Same reason for being discharge? Same place of birth? Well, I guess we'll have to see in the next trailer. Or when the game comes out. I swear if they turn him into some kind of Non-Action Big Bad...

No sign of Yuri. Wonders who will play him. Will he looks the same as before? (you know what? forget i ask that.)

Even more funny twist if they decides to just forget about Yuri (don't you dare Activision).

Soo his tattoos. I don't wanna comment anything about it since I don't have enough and proper knowledge of Russian prison tattoos, how it works and stuff. So, I'll just leave that alone. It does looks good though. But funny enough, someone at tiktok said he lowkey looks Jared Leto Joker. Even the hairstyle. Ofc, not the colors though. And now, I can't unsee it either.

However, I do appreciate how obviously intimidating his presence affects the other prisoners. Just a shame about his face though.

On a positive note, I'm excited to see how the event will unfold. From the trailer, there seems to a few glimpse of missions, some of those looks like No Russian even?

Another one of my "in denial thoughts" is, what if the whole prison thing was flashback Makarov? And in the present time, someone else plays him? (yeah yeah i know. i'll stop ✋️)

To conclude, I hope at the very least in this new version Makarov, they give him what the OG Makarov lacks. Proper characterizations, motives and in-depth personality. More than just "hohoho evil russian wants to take over europe".

And no, I'm not asking Activision to gives justification of his actions. Yes, he's evil. Yes, he's a murderous maniac. No justification for that dude lol. I just ask at least give us a peek of his past life. Who he was and who he could've been.

I’m an artist I guess, not professional yet, but trying to be hopefully soon. Your local accursed one. I guess this is a get to know me kind of thingy, so uh yeah d(^^ ;).

As far as name goes, you can call me any part of my username :3. I’m not particularly comfortable disclosing my name and gender at the moment, but I’ll add them to this whenever I am.

Huuuge Castlevania (the games only) fan, so that’s mostly what I’ll be posting and drawing about. My favorite character is Simon Belmont, although I like most characters from the series :). Also may post about Fear and Hunger, Darkstalkers, Vocaloid, and whatever else I’m into at the moment (which I’ll add later if I do change or gain interests). Asks and comments are very cool :D! I’m not super active online as of late, but I do like interacting with people and talking about things!!!

I love doing art trades and collabs and other art challenge sort of things!!! I will also get very giddy if you draw fanart of my OCs or other fanworks, it means a lot to me. (TwT )

I’m not doing commissions at the moment, but I might do doodle requests every so often, and if this changes it’ll be in my description so it’s easier to find d(^^ ).

WIP from April 11th, 2023 Welp, running away with my one-off ideas again xD The bug design brain rot continues, it seems! Developing a bit more of Kiida’s backstory led me to think about what things she might have liked as a child despite her upbringing, and next thing I knew I had a concept for an in-universe action hero, Captain Artemis! With her own WIP logo too because I really can’t help myself lmao Basically a magical girl type series that inspired Kiida to take up archery for her military training. Her memories of this were left behind with the rest of her childhood at the time, but some of it is rekindled when she returns to her former home. She bonds with Zereth over this shared interest, though I can picture them getting the whole family invested in the anime-style melodrama eventually xD Her bow’s green magic ended up being sort of a callback to the very first design for Kiida’s bow, funnily enough! She’s based on a luna moth (in case that wasn’t obvious already lol), so like Captain Shira, I had a good base to work off of for her colour scheme. I do have plans for a few more things to add to this for the finished sheet, but it’s been really fun so far already :’D I DO want to get a WIP commission I have done first though, so I’m uploading this now to hopefully placate my desire to share until that other art is done (we’ll see how well that goes lol). Wish me luck, but hope you like this for now! :)

Unprompted answering of random asks from my own ask memes for Kayli:

🌱 What’s their basic information? Name, gender, age, that sort of thing

Full name: Kayli Meyer (surname was originally Radley until she was around 7-ish years old)

Gender: Cis woman

Orientation: Asexual, vaguely sapphic but also definitely not alloromantic (AKA, the exact answer I would have given for myself about a year ago)

Date of birth: 19th February 2275 (so, five months older than Trin at any given time)

Place of residence: Born and raised in California- more specifically in Lost Hills. She had never left California before travelling to West Virginia with Trin and living there for two years (2297 to late '99) and some spare change. Has just left WV and headed back west at the current point in the day-to-day OC timeline in my head

🌎 Do they have a favourite region of the world map (e.g. the Forest, the Ash Heap…)? A least favourite region?

She enjoyed seeing the variety of different environments in Appalachia more than anything else, but she does have a soft spot for the atmosphere (not literally!) of the Ash Heap that Trin doesn't share

As for least favourites, she didn't particularly enjoy embarking out further towards the east side of the map (Mire/Cranberry Bog region), but that's more due to the tougher enemies in that region and potential for Trin to start scorchily losing her shit than the actual geography

📷 How often do they take photos (or alternatively, how often do you use photomode haha)? Any favourite/funny photos of them you’d like to share?

She will sometimes take environmental shots to capture any unusual or striking features in the landscape, but on the whole isn't snap-happy like someone I could mention. Definitely doesn't love being in shot herself (so, not a fan of selfies).

🎻 Do they play musical instruments? How skilled are they at it?

Yesss. I literally added this question to that list specifically for Kayli lol.

She's taken violin lessons since childhood, and kinda knows her way around all string instruments as a result. Also figuring out a little bit of piano, which is more likely self-taught. But the violin will always be her baby.

💰 What is the most expensive thing they own?

The most expensive thing in terms of its overall value that she ever owned, past tense, was probably her first violin. It was in pristine condition with a pearlised blue varnish, which I'd imagine would have been very hard to come by.

It survived its time with her, by the way! She just had to swap for a new refurbished one eventually because it was child-sized.

💬 How many languages do they speak?

She's only fully fluent in English, but knows phrases here and there in plenty of other languages. However, I'm inclined to think that she would count the ability to read and write sheet music as knowing a language, which brings her total per her own judgement to two.

☂️ What’s their favourite type of weather? What type of weather do you associate with them, if any?

She's not a fan of any extremes of weather, but especially not storms or heavy rain. Having grown up a) underground and b) in California, the severe East Coast-style radstorms were an unpleasant novelty to her and she's very wary of them.

🍇 Favourite food? Any dietary restrictions or specific dislikes?

Discovered when she travelled east that she likes fresh seafood- but it absolutely has to be fresh, and that's going to be in much shorter supply where she's now living than it was in Appalachia. Welp. Lakelurk meat, maybe?

Her all-time favourite food is the gulper meat in Rudy's pepperoni rolls!

🤖 Do they believe science or art is more important? How much value do they place on each?

She'd firmly agree with the paraphrased quote 'Science keeps us alive, but art is what we live for'.
