The Abyssborn Part 4: Traits
Physical - There is no one trait to tell that one is an Abyssborn. However, Abyssborn do tend to naturally stand out physically due to adapting to an 'uncommon' physical trait to that world. Harbingers tend to adapt the a trait from their non-Abyss or adopted species to appear 'striking' in some manner. They also tend to be wonky in terms of height. They have a listed height but it will not always appear as such since it usually changes with their headspace. So it can make one seem physically imposing despite being smaller or even if they are the tallest, they can seem no different than everyone else in the room if they shrink in on themselves.
It also doesn't necessarily have to be every one but it has been a trend that their eyes seem to shift with their emotions too and give the hint of something about them. For example, Tannim's eyes seem to be like flames barely contained when he is angry and they dim and almost revert to a green color (his human eye color) when he is sad. Balmoral's tend to show a vastness of the heavens and sparkle and shine under his enthusiasm but it also turns dark and sucks others in like a black hole when he is pissed.
Aura/'Scent' - A certain game gave the perfect name for the aura of natural born Abyssborn: existence outside the domain. They are not from 'here' or any other place. They do not belong to any world and will tend to feel 'foreign' to those that can sense that sort of thing. However they can disguise their 'scent' with varying degrees of success. The best at it are ancient Abyssborn, whom have been through countless worlds to understand how to construct an air that could fool even divinity and those intertwined with a realm. Harbingers will initially come off as solely their non-Abyss parent's race. However connecting to the adapted being's traits...it starts to drift to some combination of the non-Abyss race and the adapted being's. But there is a faint undercurrent of 'something else' that hints to their Abyssborn blood. Balmoral is something of an exception as he does seem to have fae and Abyssborn but not so much his adapted being.
Dimensional Interaction - Abyssborn can travel other dimensions/realms/whatever we're gonna call it. If it isn't their homeworld, then the world always has a chance of kicking them out at some point. Which for natural ones, this is every world. For Harbingers, it's their original world and the offshoots of that world. They do not experience weakness or sickness when they make these jumps however Harbingers can experience a bout of sickness from a major shift of the 'strongest being' within the world they live. Tannim is a kinda funny exception because his homeworld is one that had the strongest being shift so often, it doesn't bother him. Natural Abyssborn when they land gain knowledge about the world's 'rules' and how their logic works. So they basically have a grasp on what is or isn't possible, what the people are like and an idea of how to navigate. Harbingers don't. They have to learn about the world like any other fish out of water however they start off with much stronger ability than their parents.
Time Interaction - Abyssborn are time sensitive. This means that they tend to notice the shifts in a given timeline. So if there is someone else messing with the time line, they may notice what that person is up to but they never have an obligation to stop it. Abyssborn are not affected by time shifts but Harbingers are but can start to unravel the 'truth' of that given timeline. So say that someone went back and prevented a very evil dude from dying and the world sucks. The Harbinger that is living in that timeline with have their lives altered by this change but they have visions and flare ups to show them what was supposed to be. What they do with that knowledge is on them.
Interactions with other versions of themselves in different worlds and times gets pretty funky for Harbingers (and it's pretty much only Harbingers since the Abyssborn does not have establishment in timelines, they are only 'tethered' by their Harbinger child. So whatever is their background in relation to their child is what is 'true'). For most dimensional changes, they simply both exist and do not tend to meet. The 'visiting' version of the Harbinger does gain the memories and knowledge of the version that already exists so they do have working knowledge when they are there. This also works with 'visiting' dimensional anomalies. So someone like Noita's daughter, Lucille, who is from a dimension hopping family interacting with Tannim will trigger those memories from that time as well. So when she comes up to him, he is aware of who she is and why she knows him.
For most timeline changes, they take over the them of that time if it exists. They can and have been able to manifest their 'current' selves but it is pretty exhausting to do because...well, they're messing with the world order and they are away from their technical 'true' place. If it is a completely different version of themselves (someone that isn't in this time line at all) then they will not always have awareness of who they are although there are snatches of this. This is actually what Tannim experiences, he has lived this timeline's life with only some remembrances of his 'actual' life. It is unknown when he came into awareness but by current time of this blog, he is aware of who he originally is.

So do you think Sukuna doesn’t feel alone or do you think he just thinks no one will ever be able to fill that void? I kinda got mixed messages with his whole monologue. It seems he resents people who adore him yet he also says that he answers people’s live in battle. He says that if that’s not what love is then what else could it be? He then says love is trash/worthless. I kinda get the impression he doesn’t think he’s capable of having a connection with someone. What makes it weirder is before the Gojo fight, he remembers Yorozu’s words about teaching him about love. I also suspect this ties into his hatred for Yuji. Sorry for long ask lmao. I just find your perspective interesting.
My take on Sukuna has for a while been that he's full of shit. To some extent. And it's a little hard to have a proper take not knowing his back story. What Gege has given us so far isn't that much so everything I write below is like extremely speculative.
The unwanted child and twins theory
Sukuna was an unwanted child because of what he looked like at birth - the word 忌み子 implies that because it's an old word with these specific connotations. He is probably the conjoined twin which absorbed most of his sibling in the womb but was born with 4 eyes, 4 arms, an extra mouth and the strange bark like skin on his face. Japan has never been good on this kind of stuff. I'm not going to break out my uni books for this but something to check out is the concept of purity and how it influenced philosophy, religion and life in Japan. One of the simplest examples here is that the word kirei (きれい) that many people associate with the meaning "beautiful" has also the meaning "clean" and "pure". The thing that's pure is beautiful. And it does go the creepy way you think, beauty of the unblemished, of the "normal" too. And Sukuna's body would really not be in line with that concept.
Pair it up with the fact that in Japan twins were considered bad luck and he gets abandoned after birth. Not sure why not murdered, killing newborns was also a thing, the whole Jizo cult is related to that, though Jizo specifically, I think is more recent than Heian... don't take it for granted, as I said, I'm not rereading the uni texts.
Maybe his parents weren't able to kill him because of his cursed energy, maybe they were afraid he'd come back as a vengeful spirit.
But despite what a lot of the Gojou girlies scream on social media, Sukuna doesn't whine about it. The way he mentions it makes it seem he doesn't care about it at this point. (Whether he used to care, we don't know yet). And he uses it to dismiss the premise of Kashimo's question. The way I see it, Sukuna says it doesn't matter, he doesn't know his origins so he will never know the answer to this question. He still is the strongest.
He survived without the love of his parents at his weakest. That's probably why he resents the weak because like all dipshits who accomplish something, he thinks: if I could, what is your excuse?
Though we can't say with any certainty that he survived on his own. We don't know whether Kenjaku or Tengen, didn't collect him to experiment on him. We don't know when he met Uraume.
If the theory seeing Sukuna's origins in a the Ryoumen Sukuna urban legend is correct, then it's not unlikely Kenjaku found Sukuna and had fun with him. (Also please keep in mind that while this story is referred to as an urban legend and might be fully or partially made up, the level of violence against people with unusual bodies it includes is kinda on brand for the time period. So like read with that in mind.)
Also it might mean that Sukuna's twin wasn't completely dead yet, wasn't as fully absorbed as his current body would suggest. It's not impossible that Kenjaku removed some of the twin and helped Sukuna achieve a usable body, maybe told him to absorb the twin and their soul to become full, like in the case of Maki and Mai. But maybe Kenjaku still kept some of the twin's body and that soul. In this case Sukuna referring to Yuuji as being from back then could refer to that and feed into the Yuuji was created from Sukuna's twin. Existing partially as a cursed object, and having this strong connection to Sukuna could be what enhances Yuuji's soul powers. And also would make him uniquely predisposed to cage Sukuna.
This also would feed into the theories as to why Sukuna acts the way he does towards Kenjaku. Why he's kinda cold towards them but goes along with their plots. If Kenjaku was indeed the person to take him in when he couldn't really fend for himself, and helped make his body more usable, then there's a huge debt there. And the concept of debt is another huge cultural thing in Japan.
This would also explain why Sukuna is skeptical about love, because Kenajku's parenting is well Kenjaku's parenting. He could've been their prized experiment but so is Yuuji.
While I personally don't love the Yuuji is Sukuna's twin, I don't find it unfounded.
I'm not particularly excited for it coming true because I'd love for Yuuji to be a separate person from Sukuna. Someone who's weak and unrelated to him but who can still cage him.
But with what we know about Maki and Mai, and with the unwanted child thing, Yuuji could be his twin. It would explain why he had no cursed energy, because when Sukuna absorbed and killed him, he would've lost it. If Sukuna absorbed his twin after birth and not before, if they consciously lived together for a while that has implications too.
Full on speculation bordering on fanfiction ahead. It might be why Sukuna chastises Yuuji for wanting to live despite being weak, for clinging to life. If he absorbed his twin post birth, and if he did that consciously, his twin was his first kill. It might have not been easy, not pretty and he might have not done it as cold and detached as he wished to. Or as he now wishes he had been. If Yuuji is his twin there may have been a similar conflict between Sukuna and him, as existed between Mai and Maki. Yuuji being the one more content with their suffering and Sukuna rejecting it, but also Yuuji being his emotional support, the one holding all his misery.
Absorbing his twin would've also likely been his first act of cannibalism. It's honestly a little funny that we haven't seen Sukuna consume anyone so far. But Yuuji has been eating human remains left and right. He now seems to be eating his own skin. It has been speculated that absorbing cursed techniques through eating people is Sukuna's og cursed technique. But if the twins theory is true, it's not entirely impossible that absorbing techniques through cannibalism was his twin's ability.
Sukuna's fanclub
Whatever happened, Sukuna got no love as a kid. If he was Kenjaku's ward then he only got appreciation if he exceeded Kenjaku's expectations.
So either he got this strong because he was rejected and had to survive and had no one to socialise him. Or he was socialised by Kenjaku who always wanted more of him and who also has zero concern for others.
So for him to get appreciation later in life, once he gets power and influence and titles, it must feel hollow. It must feel fake and like trash. It feels like people wanting things from him and offering nothing in return. Because none of them, Yorozu, Gojou, Kashimo, offer him anything he wants. They want to teach him love selfishly, their love is there to fulfill their needs. What his needs may be? None of them care to ask.
If that's what people around him consider love then there's no appeal in it for him. At most they can provide him with some entertainment and Sukuna loves fighting.
He really seems to enjoy battles, he will tease and indulge his opponents as long as it entertains him. He also seems to love cursed energy and jujutsu and he's always analysing what's going on. Little creepy nerd. He also seems to enjoy mentoring but not so much giving therapy XD
Sukuna and Yuuji
Sukuna's issue with Yuuji is all the more interesting because in theory Yuuji should be interesting to him. Yuuji has skills and is an extremely fast learner. He develops much faster than Megumi and reaches surprising understanding of cursed energy and the soul in a very short time.
But Sukuna seems to be annoyed by Yuuji. He pettily bullies Yuuji, disrespects him. Never acknowledges Yuuji's progress. Yuuji's weakness irks him in a very special way. Probably because Yuuji has control over him. But also because he can't break Yuuji, can't get him to cower or adore him. Yuuji doesn't follow any pattern Sukuna expects.
Yuuji also doesn't have the aspirations to become the strongest. Just strong enough. And he wants his strength not as much for himself but for others. Which really separates him from Sukuna's fanclub and most other jujutsu sorcerers.
If the twins theory is true, being with Yuuji also brought Sukuna back. He might vaguely remember what it used to be like to share all his time with someone. Maybe with his twin it was the other way round. Sukuna was in control of the body and the twin mostly lived in the inner domain? Maybe something like this used to be Sukuna's biggest fear?
Also if they were twins, Yuuji caging Sukuna would really affect his sense of self. He had perfected his jujutsu, studied cursed energy and fighting. Only to be held back by the weaker twin he though he'd got rid of.
Of course all this hinges on how much he remembers and how well. Some of the resentment might've been subconscious, of course. He seem to understand who Yuuji is only after he leaves Yuuji's body. Maybe he needed that distance? Maybe he needed to see again where Yuuji ends and he begins to understand who they really are?
Sukuna and Uraume
Having said that, I think Sukuna is perfectly capable of forming relationships with others. He has one with Uraume. They vibe together really well. They are happy to be around one another. Uraume is his servant but Sukuna jokes around with them. He also shows them respect and consideration. It's obvious he knows enough about Uraume to know how they feel and he addresses those feelings directly with praise or reassurance.
Gege said in the fanbook that Sukuna doesn't mind Uraume and likes their cooking skills. Which is probably true and probably how it started. But by now there is some sort of close relationship between them. It may not be romantic or sexual, like Gege seems to believe (as fandom that decision is truly up to us), but there is some kind of love, maybe platonic love of friends.
Because the issue is also quite semantic in nature. What do you define as love. I personally am wary to call the selfish adoration Sukuna's fanclub had for him as love. For me personally love has to go both ways and have an element of mutual mindfulness, it cannot be declared by one side and somehow become binding for the other.
That's why I think Sukuna is kinda full of shit. He might not believe himself capable of forming relationships. Or he might deem that pointless. But he's actually capable of it and he seems to enjoy the one relationship he has. Maybe the key to that acceptance is him believeing that there's nothing more there than Uraume being his servant?

it was raining a bunch right … and there was this lil nature reserve near my house . w a path you could walk up on a hill but also down by a river….. and it was raining sm that the whole thing was just FLOODED. you couldn’t see any of the rocks in the river…. or the grass you could walk on beside it…… so little ari decided to go down there anyway. for the sake of adventure. and i made it to the end of the path to a fence that you could jump over to get to The Normal Road Home .
BUT …. gasp ………. little ari came face to face w a bunch of cows . up on the hill. right by the fence. they were eating the grass and i was scared bc they were fucking HUGE mickey :((( i was shaking n shivering and trying to blend in w my surroundings……… carefully making my way towards the fence that they were kinda blocking.
BUT THEN …. another gasp….. suddenly i was face to face w this One cow/bull and it just stared at me. for a couple seconds. and then it ran right towards me and my childhood instincts kicked in …. so i like. ran down the hill and then back up so i could jump over the fence . and then i was ok :) but ever since that fateful day i’ve been scared of cows….. i can only admire them from afar 😔😔😔😔

Anyways. My overall point is that there are certain topics in the Fate series that are very heavy and I personally really do believe need to be treated with a certain sensitivity and not trivialized, incest and pedophilia being some of them, I do really believe that Fate is trying to make certain points about the cycles of abuse and how they manifest and what it does to survivors quite a bit. I think Fate also makes a point of showing how abuse can leave people in morally grey areas and also make them lash out against others (HF Sakura); or lead them to take actions that they would normally NEVER take (i.e. LB6 Morgan vs PHH Morgan). Fate also makes a lot of points about how even the most abusive people started out as innocent people who had things done to them and that abuse cycles Start somewhere (Kirei, Angra Mainyu, Zolken/Zouken) and that the environment and way people were raised often have a lot to do with it (Shinji) and the messages they were being sent also have a lot to do with it too. I think if you go through a lot of the messages that Fate is trying to say and you come out of it thinking "Wow so hot" about things like incest/pedophilic abuse I think, truly, you are missing the point, and Nasu wouldn't be bringing up Revolutionary Girl Utena and Evangelion as being series that explicitly influenced his work so much if he wasn't trying to Say something about the nature of abuse cycles. I enjoy having fun as much as the next person but I do really truly wish that we could break out of that weird otaku mindset of "it's okay if it's cute anime girls, it's not really and no one's REALLY looking at my incest pedophilia fanworks and going 'this is so awesome i want this in real life too'". because media and its impacts on psychological processes just simply don't work as simple like that lol (propaganda works on these same processes)

EXPERIENCE / HOW MANY YEARS : A side blog for about a month before I took the plunge and made this one! Leeeetttt’s seeeeeee, like 2015? I was a senior in high school and I’ve been here suffering ever since!
BEST EXPERIENCE : Absolutely absolutely the worlds and friendships I’ve made here. Some of my favorite years here were getting to create so much with @thewolfisawake and a friend who’s unfortunately no longer online. Kirei and I have been friends basically since I started and oh man, the love explosion I could go on about. Eight years this year! My rotten soldier, my sweet cheese, my good-time gal, she’s been with me through the best and worst days of my life and I cannot ever begin to truly articulate how much our friendship means to me.
Getting a little less sappy, even though our third friend is no longer around, I’ve felt so honored to have still been able to make connections here and getting to create new worlds, new plots, and new friendships with people. It got a bit disheartening for a while because I wasn’t writing as much because it felt like all I could find were people who frankly didn’t bother giving me the time of day because I was someone new and someone they didn’t already ship with. It was hard to get interactions or write with new people. So this past little while has been an absolute blast.
RP PET PEEVE : Oh my gosh I feel like I go on about this so much that it’s going to get annoying but it’s always my most consistent number 1 issue over the years. Shipping. Smut. Only caring about ships. Only caring about smut. Heck, only caring about solely your muse in a ship or only caring about writing smut for our ships. Dropping even attempting to interact with a muse of mine like a hot potato just because you realize the possibility for romance isn’t happening or because I didn’t immediately jump onto the ship bandwagon with them. I swear I’m not anti-ship because I also really like writing romance and I think writing smut can be fun! I just hate when it seems like that’s the only thing someone cares about when writing with me.
I guess it’s like...you create this fully fleshed out muse with hopes, dreams, aspirations, story hooks, and relations to other muses but none of that gets touched because you’re only used as fodder to write out “And (my muse) kisses (your muse) before having wild and raunchy sex with them” over and over again. I feel like it comes as no surprise if you’ve followed me for even a short amount of time that I really enjoy creating plots and events and things like that with our muses. It’s just how I prefer to do things. I’m also here to, like, write with people, not write out romantic scenarios for people, if that makes sense.
So if it’s obvious, and it always feels like it’s pretty obvious to me, when what we want out of something isn’t matching-- and worse, my muse is being treated like a glorified sex doll? Yeahhh. It’s why I wrote that big dramatic rule update/PSA post a minute back when I was going through some spring cleaning (also talking about my #2 pet peeve-- mutuals I can’t get to write with me) and-- I’m glad I did? I was right, I would not have wanted to deal with that with how stressed I am now and I’ve been enjoying using Tumblr and writing out muse mess as a breather. So, pat on the back to past me I guess?
Kind of stealing Marshy’s sentiments (who I’m also stealing this meme from too, hi) I’m a big fan of ships but I’ll never insta-ship, and depending on the muse, I genuinely mean it when I say that it may take time to get there, but I think the journey is part of the fun anyways. Anyways, I rambled again! Sorry!
PLOTS OR MEMES : I’m fine with both! I always tend to automatically resort to memes or fun dash things rather than long-form plotted threads when I’m super busy or tired, which is why I haven’t touched a tracked thread is a hot second ahahaha.... But I like both!
LONG OR SHORT REPLIES : *SpongeBob out of breath meme* How long are we talking? I can do long, it just depends on the muse, my energy, and if I have enough to work with. Longer threads may take me a while to get to since they require more attention and focus, but it all just depends!
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSES : Some yes and some absolutely not and thank goodness for that. I feel like most of my muses differ from me more often than not, and the only ones I may share similarities to are the introverts like Veritas, Raven, Aur, etc. Veritas, being my first ever muse, has more pieces of me than anyone else, but really that’s more like some of her personality beats and awkwardness than anything else and I still think she’s still a lot cooler than me personality-wise anyways!

I am tired of the misconceptions around nasuverse magi.
The consensus around fate tumblr, reddit and other such places is that every single mage that isnt the protagonist would kick a puppy and eat a baby. Tbf, there are elements of truth in it. But its to the point where, people, if they see that the character in question is mildly related to the clock tower they will instantly dismiss them. Its simply too much of an exaggeration. I remember when people said that having some of the crypters in FGO being genuinely alright people a retcon, because they were supposed to be the evil magus that opposed our plucky protagonist.
There is just a blatant refusal to critically examine magi characters like Kayneth or Tokiomi even when the story talks about them positively. It gets very embarrassing at times
When Mash and Leonardo gave the crypters glowing, five star reviews to our self insert protagonist, there were people who would rather believe tamamovitch in that they were somehow jealous of your accomplishments.
There were people who claimed Goredolf being a good man deep down was a retcon, and Kirchstaria being a gigachad was false, despite the part 2 prologue and crypter interludes showing otherwise.
When a magus character is given character traits beyond being a power hungry megalomaniac, it is talked about as if they are the exception to a rule. It prevents any discussion about magi from going anywhere.
People than ask why is there so many magi villains then? Its pretty fuckin simple. Nasu and other writers needed a villain, and there was an easy pool of unnamed characters they could pull from.
The problem with making exceptions out of protagonist magi characters is that they don't hate magi society. Rin still desires to be a part of the clocktower and study there. Luvia is an amazingly fun character, and has a frankly adorable crush on Shirou. Even her family can be designated as generally cool people, given Luvias younger sister is marrying for love rather than genes.
Luvia still threatens to kill Waver if he reveals her family's magic to the clock tower. Waver, despite being fate tumblrs pet boy who cant do magic very well, despite their idea that, wow wanting magic in this world is the worst thing ever, still thinks that being a magus, and reaching for the root is an incredibly noble goal.
Why cant it be down to the culture that magi were raised in? Why is it that these people are the exception, and the rest of magi society should burn? Why are so called good Magi thought of as protagonist/good person first, and Magi second, and why are antagonist magi hit with the magi first, shitty person second? Hell, even Touko Aozaki bounces from role to role depending on what story you are reading. Shes the villain of Mahoyo, a wise mentor in Kara no Kyoukai, and just somebody having the time of her life in Case Files: Grace Note. Aoko was planning to kill Soujuuro for witnessing magic, only stopping when he helps her fight against toukos puppet.
Even the traits that people like to shit on magi for are just traits prevalent in all Nasu villains, magi or not. Arrogance? Gilgamesh, BB, tamamovitch and Kiara have it in spades.
Sociopathy? Lio and Ryuunosokeare serial killers, as well as Jackie and Reika from apocrypha. Kirei is literally just like that ™️
Not caring for human life? Shirou Amakusa, Twice Pieceman, Kiara, Goetia, The Lion King, all grand visionary villains.
You could do the reverse for magi villains as well. Manaka was connected to the root and fell in love with Arthur. Shinji is an asshole and he cant even do magic that well.
Speaking of the root, there are very few magi villains who do anything to get to the root. Zouken, before he went bug man dementia guy, wanted to reach the root so he could help humanity. He lost touch with his goal and simply wanted immortality. And he is the example most people point to for evil magi stomping on anybody to get to the root. His treatment of Sakura was because he wanted to get back at their ancestor which he knew.
The Einzbern are barely even human anymore, just Homunculi following the directives of their long dead creators. Im not kidding, even irisviels father is another homunculus. There are no living magi in the Einzbern family.
Roa fell in love with Arcueid, which is what drives him in tsukihime. Cornelius Alba was a fucking incel who fell in love with touko, but was also jealous of her, which made him want to kill her. Zepia wanted to help humanity and save the world, but went insane when he couldn't figure out how. He decided to become an antagonistic phenomenon, in the hopes that might change the fate of the world. Dust of Osiris wanted to save humanity's future (and her girlfriend) by preserving it as a record, frozen in time in the philosophers stone.
What magic weed do they smoke, that most Magi villains want to save the world?
Touko is a villain in Mahoyo, she wants to kill her sister out of jealousy. Atrum Galliasta doesnt care about anything except the benefits magic can bring him. The american magi from Strange Fake and the japanese magi from Type Redline want to use their magic for nationalistic purposes.
The only magi who fit the popular image that I can think of are Souren Araya, Darnic Yggdmillenia, Nigel Saward, and some of the antagonists of Case Files, specifically from volume 1 to volume 3, including the original villains of the anime.
Even with Araya, he wants to destroy the root and find the happiest moment in human history to preserve it. Just like Goetia, Dust Of Osiris, and The Lion King.
Darnic wants to reach the root so he can gain enough power to make his mega family/faction secede from the Mages Association. The other guys are doing their thing so they can do their experiments in peace. They are escaping sealing designations, which are only leveled on the people who may expose the magic world by experimenting on random non magic people.
So, that talks about a general fandom perspective on average magi. But what of the Mages Association? The organization that will gladly turn a blind eye to the extermination of innocents, as long as you dont get caught?
Or they would. If it wasn't against their fucking laws that crime by magic or involving innocents were incredibly punishable. Its more a problem with the western fandom having a lack of official translations, but there are unofficial ones.
This may not be out of the goodness of their heart, as these are in place so as to not expose their existence to the rest of the world.
But, they still take care of these problems. They handled Jack the Ripper, and took care of mages like Heinrich Zepter whos experiments affected many civilians. Why dont they do anything in japan? They dont have much surveillance there. Its a whole plot point in garden of sinners.
Even in fate/stay night, the reason the grail war takes place in fuyuki is because it is so far from the watchful eye of the association.

you know. of course i would like more explicit remarks from him when it comes to caren and claudia but at the same time it’s not his style, and i love this constant subtlety and references that no one around him could ever understand unless they knew about his personal life and his past. he can’t help but reference it but still keeps it private.
it already started in hf with shirou: he didn’t know anything about kirei as a person aside from the visceral dislike he felt towards him from the start, didn’t know who the person ‘who died in front of his eyes, who made him study healing magecraft’ was, he didn’t know who the woman ‘you should not kill because having her die in front of you would hit you pretty hard’ is.
so even if he talks about knowing that caren wanted to become a singer in the choir when she was a child, no one around him would understand that this implies he was in fact keeping track of her and getting updates (at the very least during her early childhood)
and no one would understand why he’s gifting the mc clothes that are ‘beautiful, pure and stay in your heart no matter what , just like colorful ortensia blooming under the rain’.
after that line he basically goes “huh--- i don’t need to explain--” *changes topic to making fun of the weirded out face the mc is showing*

Yknow what. Gil, Cu, Roman, and Komadori
favorite thing about them
Gil: How absolutely human he is, despite how inhuman he is at the same time. He's an egotistical arrogant childish petty loudmouth obnoxious bastard, but he's noble and brave and loves kids and was a legitimately good king, and despite every single reason you could name it should be otherwise he's Chaotic Good. Not even neutral, straight up GOOD. He's terrible, he's amazing, he's a hero and a tyrant and he's so, so very human, good and bad.
Cu: He just...there's this vibe about him that's so warm and gentle despite his fighty battle-loving attitude. He can be quiet and soft and warm and introspective, and there's hints around him that he's sadder than he lets on -- and god, looking at his myth, of course he is. That quiet depth beyond stabby fighty Lancer is so much worth exploring.
Roman: HE'S SO SWEET. HE'S SO GOOD AND SWEET. He tried so hard and desperately wanted to save the world, and even if he got his wish he willingly gave it up to save people, because no matter how he'd changed or what he became as a human his soul, his core, never stopped being someone who wanted to help. He gave everything he'd wanted up because he just...couldn't let go of his selflessness and he's so human, I just aaah.
Komadori: YOU MEAN MY OC OH MY GOD UH. I love how much she loves people, stories, everyone she meets she just loves them so so much and she's so loud and insistent and unapologetic in how much she adores everyone around her, how much she loves being around them. Every Servant, even the scary ones even the monsters even the Evil ones she loves them all so aggressively and stubbornly and LOUDLY that they can't help but love her back.

Cu: I can't remember the exact dialogue, but there's something he says to Emiya in UBW that slapped extremely hard. That and his dying fuck you to Kirei.
Romani: You're asking what you should be aiming for then? Haha, sounds like you alright, Komadori. That's a good question. That's an easy one. You don't want to stop the game, but finish the game instead. The end comes for both you and me. Accomplish lots by then. Whether it's joy or sadness, success or setbacks, as long as it's something new. You still have plenty of those, don't you? Live life with no regrets. RP EXPERIENCE/HOW LONG (MONTHS / YEARS?): On here? Uh, probably 2013? So almost 10 years. In general? like 13 years.
BEST EXPERIENCE: I have had so many experiences throughout my time RPing. From friends on a forum, that I’ve now gone to see two of them marry, to new friends made through a nearly decade long friendship with @arcxnumvitae. It’s been quite a ride. I can’t really choose one tbh, all of them have their own place for me.
RP PET PEEVES/DEALBREAKERS: I personally am not into drama with RP partners. I don’t mind venting to me or the like. I just don’t like others usually brought up as constant back and forth nor to be made fun of. It doesn’t sit right with me. Generally though, I’m fairly laid back and usually feel I have to have my own experience to make a judgment call. Although I will say flat out disrespect of my known RP partners or their muses do not fly. You will not get sympathy from me.
FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT: I am known by my friends as the Angst Queen. Idk why. But yeah, I do like some hurt. I like fluff--platonic, familial and romantic. As for smut, I don’t do it. I’m willing try with those I’m comfortable with but so far I haven’t really done so.
PLOTS OR MEMES: I can do both but I have found most of my successes come from memes. I also tend to write open ended starters randomly.
LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: I have no preference in length though I try to get within a paragraph of my partners as personal thing for myself. I do not hold my partners to the same standard. Whatever fits for your interaction is fine for me.

Anime Update V3 1
Vinland Saga S2 - The original OP and ED singers came back for the new OP and ED, so you know shit's going to get real. But not quite at this episode, where things are kept laid back and focused on the cast back at Ketil's farm, with the underlining drama coming from a slave from some other farm who's now on the loose. And that guy shows up at the end, declaring himself to be Arnheid's husband!
Hunter x Hunter - Upon landing in East Gorteau, Gon and Killua split up and Gon finds himself in a fight with the Ant Army's own Scowl and Batso all while Meleoron observes the fight undetected. On the side there was some political talk about high ranking Hunters who have interest in exploiting the conflict with the Ants as means of unseating Netero as Chairman, and I love how the dictator of East Gorteau who declares martial law towards the end is simply named "Diego", with no last name given, and is publicly recognized as such.
SHUFFLE! - A couple minutes into the premiere, I wasn't sure this show was working for me. Aside from good dubover voice acting from the likes of Jerry Jewell and Carrie Savage, and a really good joke involving the "KKK" group ("not the mean guys in the white sheets!"), it was so typical high school romcom/harem anime/VN in a way that could get wince-inducing. Then, out of fucking nowhere, it's established that this a world where gods and demons just...exist and intermingle with humans in a society that's interlinked with the divine spiritual realm ever since it opened up on Earth. They just drop it in so casually, and then introducing two new girls leads to the next big reveal for the ongoing premise: the King of Gods and King of Devils have chosen this one guy to be wed to one of their daughters, so he has the choice whether he wants to become the next King of Gods or the next King of Devils depending on who he marries. What!? Oh, and the girls are neighbors to this guy and his pseudo-sister 'cause of course, gotta have that set-up! So now this is looking like fun!
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works - Two straight episodes where it was hard for me to look away for even a second, as what was transpiring was just so interesting. I remember this part from the movie, where Shinji holds Rin captive, Kirei reveals he's still alive and was Lancer's master all along, and that he killed Rin's father in the previous Holy Grail War. He makes Lancer kill himself, but he doesn't die until after killing Kirei and scaring Shinji away. As this feels like a proper sequel to Fate Zero, it feels good to see Kirei finally bite the dust after his murder of Tokiomi is paid off, but a bit strange that there's no such payoff for his animosity with Kiritsugu, as him being his killer will not be revealed here: Shirou will never know. Speaking of, despite his valiant effort, Shirou gets the crap beaten out of him by Archer, all while getting to see into his head and learn his backstory, where all of his heroic ideals ultimately led him. Archer's very existence challenges Shirou every bit as Archer's words rebuking his beliefs in purity and justice do, and it's ironically helping Shirou grow as a person. He accepts Archer as his "Bad End" that he will strive to avoid, for even if Archer is right about everything, Shirou would rather be wrong but true to himself and what his experience with Kiritsugu taught him to believe in than right but jaded and detached from any sort of bonds with the people most precious to him and the rest of humanity. And so the fight goes on!
KonoSuba - Again, they had me in the first half, not gonna lie. I knew this was a comedic, subversive lampooning of the Isekai subgenre (which needs to be trashed and incinerated already) as oppposed to the more seriously deconstructive and thematically rich Re:ZERO, but the MC starts out seeming just like Subaru Natsuki: a gamer geek, a shut-in NEET, kind of a dingus with a swell-headed attitude at times, he's even wearing a fucking track suit! And he dies in the cliche "jumping in the way of an oncoming vehicle to save a kid" way, except it turns out to have been meaningless since the vehicle in question was a slow moving tractor that would've stopped for the kid anyway. By the time we meet Aqua and get some relentlessly mean-spirited ribbing of Kazuma by her, you start to get a clearer picture of what kind of show this is to be. And Kazuma, just to be a petty bitch, decides to drag Aqua with him to the world he's to live his next life in, much to the goddess' protests and panic attacks. So this new "hero" is a complete cretin and Aqua is a largely useless, self-centered bitch. And together, they are freaking hilarious and their antics have won me over already. Onward to your adventure, you glorious losers!
Symphogear AXZ - Before starting on the final season, I had to see this last one's set of shorts, which were as cute and fun as expected.
Eureka Seven - I've arrived at that part in the show where Renton, on the lam and with nowhere in particular to go, has been unofficially adopted by Charles and Ray, staying aboard their aircraft, assisting them with their LFOs, and eating the delicious food they provide. It's so interesting that these two provide a warmer, more comforting environment to Renton than Gekko State ever did, are even friendlier and more understanding of him, and Charles even looks like he could pass for Renton's dad on top of being an infinitely better, non-abusive father figure than Holland. So there's going to be some drama when Renton finds out these two are under a contract by the Military. And speaking of, Dominic is seen arriving at some abandoned looking site at the episode's closing minute(s). What are you up to now, Dom?

That time my protagonist took the reins and suddenly I have a series
Sometimes it’s strange to remember a time when I wasn’t working on Tales of Yamato. It’s been my near-daily life now for a short while, and before that I was planning bits and pieces towards it. But it wasn’t always like this. It wasn’t even meant to be a whole book and more originally.
All the way back when I was writing a short story for Darkness & Moonlight, I had a different idea. It had major Asian influences, magic, and gods, however it ended up more towards the high fantasy genre. After feedback I realised the piece I’d written needed so much more work than I could do in time for the deadline and I had two options. Not have a story for that anthology, or write something new. I wasn’t ready to give up however, and so I went for the latter option.
For those of you who have read my stories, you might agree with a statement that gets given to me often by my beta readers. I’ve whittled it down to: BIG ideas, small space. I seem to have the knack for ideas which could expand out into something much bigger, and yet I cram it into a 2-5k story. Side note: At the very least my currently short stories keep gaining in length and I am learning how to write longer! So because I’d already had a failed story because of plot, and now I had pretty much no time to write a second story, I was worried about the same thing happening again. The thing is, I never do these things on purpose! It just… happens. And gaining ideas itself is tricky for me too, so the whole thing was a crazy idea, but damn I was going to give it a try.
Introducing Hotaka. My saviour and creator of so much chaos, the good kind at least.
During my flailing for an idea, I’d latched on to two things moonlight and the film Saw. Why Saw of all things? Well, I’d reminded myself of something I’d learnt about it on a random facebook post (those are useful after all!); they were low on budget and it made things so much simpler and easier to shoot it all in one room. Bingo. Just what I needed. If I kept my characters to one room, the plot can’t get too out of hand… Right?
So I had a vague location and the moon… and then what? Well amongst this I’d also latched onto a comment of a Japanese saying thanks to the author Natsumi Sōseki: 月が綺麗ですね / tsuki ga kirei desu ne which translates into “The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?”. It’s a beautiful way of saying I love you without saying it directly, and I loved the idea so much. That, and combined with various moon viewing scenes I’d read or watched in the fandoms I am in sealed the deal. (I’ll also talk about the fandom side in a later post!)
Armed with my idea, I broke open a new document and threw myself into the scene. Hotaka immediately emerged, as do most of my characters who make themselves, and oh boy was he looking at Ryoichi. Fantastic. So they did their thing and Hotaka broke my heart, even though I knew what he was going to do, and finally my story was done. I’d written it faster than any other story before (however it also was a shorter than average story unfortunately) and it could be submitted to the anthology after all!

Well along comes the next Worldsmyths anthology, this time about seasons. And as I’m trying to figure out what to write again, along with help from some others, Hotaka rears his pretty little head. Summer has wonderful matsuri (Japanese festivals) which are so much fun and another fandom I loved covered it and I fell in love. So here we go again. Hotaka runs around doing his thing some more and it’s a continuation of the first story but still a standalone story, and things are going great and then…
Oh by the way Hotaka is a yokai.
What?
He dropped that little bombshell on me, making me flail and figure out which yokai he might be (I only knew a few back then). And that opened up so many things. I finished the story, ended it in a way that could be continued if I felt like it, or left alone. Part of me knew that Hotaka wasn’t done with me yet.
Fast forward a little more, and while I’m figuring out what I want to do with my author self and also learning all about serialising fiction, Hotaka throws another bombshell at me. I could write more about him and his rich world and serialise it. As with the comment of my BIG ideas always being squished, by doing this I could change that issue by going back and exploring more ideas which had cropped up. I could see other yokai, meet other gods, try to finish writing about Hotaka…
And that’s pretty much where I am now.
Except Hotaka’s story is still not over. I planned one more story with him, making a trilogy of short stories with him in, but it wasn’t enough. Now he has a full prequel too, plus a very small glimpse in between that and where we see him in Beneath Tsukuyomi.
I’ll be sad when I finish the last story with him in. I vaguely know what will happen, and it won’t be long before I write it. However it needs to be done for Tales of Yamato to be complete. He’s resilient and unpredictable, and knowing my luck, he’ll find a way of coming back somehow. But at the same time, I think I’m ready to let him go. He swooped in at my time of need and completely set me on this path, and I’ll be forever thankful for that.
To my Hotaka, who I hope others enjoy as much as I have.

“Why do we have to do this in the human realm? In the daylight?” Itachi groans from behind his sunglasses, feeling the after effects of his bachelor party that Sasuke insisted on throwing him. Of course there was plenty of alcohol and plenty woman that kept the party going into the early hours of the morning.
Sasuke snickers at his older brother’s current state, a little excited to see how pissed their father will be since for once it won’t be directed at the younger uchiha. “Fathers gonna be so pissed, you definitely don’t have to worry about trying to make a move on Kirei tonight.”
Even though he’s got sunglasses on, Sasuke can feel the deathly glare aimed in his direction from behind the dark lenses so quickly shuts up and scans the guests to find Sakura so he can talk to her instead. “Where do you think you’re going? The ceremony is going to start soon.”
Before Itachi can grab his brother by the tie and drag him up towards the altar, their parents walk over to check on them since Fugaku doesn’t want his sons embarrassing him. “Take off those sunglasses, this is your wedding.” Fugaku sighs pinching the bridge of his nose while Mikoto smooths down Itachi’s tie and smiles warmly, leaning up to kiss his cheek.
“You look so handsome, my dear. Kirei and you make a very lovely looking couple.”
I sigh as I glance around the venue. It was a mixture of whites and blacks - I suppose to symbolize heaven and hell coming together. I hold on tighter to Hinata's arm as she and Sakura leads me to the room, I would be waiting in until it was time for my father to escort me down the aisle. I felt sick to my stomach and wanted Neji here with me.
But my father said no. With him and m mother down in the human realm with me, Neji was needed to stay and guard the gates. Touching my lips, I could still feel his soft lips on mine and I would cherish that last kiss forever.
When I hear the soft music starting to pick up I knew it was time. Groaning as my father gives me one of his signature smiles as he holds my hand. I feel my heart beating soundly in my chest, not because I was excited or nervous but from dread. I didn't want this.
The door parted and I see Itachi standing at the end of the aisle, his hair freed from his usual low ponytail to flow around his shoulders and pair of shades tucked into the collar of his shirt. I arch a brow at that until my father and I reach the end and I could smell the alcohol still on his breath.
I scrunch my nose up, thankful the veil I wore hides my sour expression. "Glad you had fun." I whisper snarkily to him when he reaches for my hand when my father passes me off to him. I roll my eyes when all he does is smirk down at me as he lifts the veil that covers me.
