— From a young age, Rose, a young nature fairy and princess, had been trained and educated to become the Empress Regnant of the Phrygian Empire.

She was raised to believe that power was a most important possession, and was to be treated as such.

Upon receiving a letter from the revered Erebus Academy at the age of fourteen, she spent four long years studying at that institution, which led to a number of events.

For one, she’d befriended one of her personal maids who attended Erebus Academy with her, Atalanta Kainda Mielikki.

After that, she and Crown Prince Johann Desmond Edison Ludenberg of the Cyclamen Empire, who was another fairy, were at each other’s throats for the role of valedictorian, which Rose eventually earned.

Two months later, Rose discovered that she was never meant to attend Erebus Academy and that her name had been mixed up with an orphan’s.

Still, she was permitted to continue attending the school since she could keep up with her peers and was qualified to attend.

She soon befriended Rosalie, the orphan whose name had been mixed up with hers.

By the end of the school year, Rose had found a friend and a lover in Johann, and she’d made more connections as well—those efforts were thrown into a garbage bin when it was discovered that she was actually the daughter of Emperor Midas and his former lover instead of Empress Consort Selene Luna.

It was also made known that Rosalie was the true heir, and was swapped with Rose at birth.

Rose hadn’t exactly been on good terms with her family for a long time, and now they saw a reason to banish her—leave her for dead, but they decided to keep her as a court secretary due to her vast knowledge.

Meanwhile, in the Cyclamen Empire, it was discovered that Johann was never the true heir as well, and given his very complicated family tree with a half-brother-cousin, it was evident that people really needed to keep track of things.

Johann’s half-brother, twin and cousin, Clarence, who was supposedly the son of the late Prince Edward IX, was actually Emperor Leonard’s son and was mixed up with Johann.

It was a laughable concept, to the people, but it wasn’t so laughable once Johann, who was also on horrible terms with his family, had his wings torn out in front of an audience before he was exiled.

Elsewhere, in the Phrygian Empire, the Emperor and Empress Consort were assassinated by a rebellion, leading to Rosalie’s early coronation as the uneducated Empress Regnant, only for her to forfeit all claim to the crown.

This led to Rose being recognized the only living heir of Emperor Midas, and was eventually coronated as Empress Regnant Rose Celeste Veronica Briar of the Phrygian Empire.

Afterwards, she provided sanctuary for Johann, who was practically infamous by now.

Admittedly, Rose did coddle him after that.

Twenty-two years later, her tale was forgotten, covered by bigger news, but she was never forgotten, either.

Her children were known for greater feats, but till her very last breaths, she acknowledged that she had always craved power, but she also craved love.

Acceptance.

And a home that she loved, not because it was opulent and she had everyone at her beck and call, but because everyone she loved was in it.
