O nascimento de Henrietta prenunciou aspectos de como sua vida sempre seria. Depois de três filhas e de um trabalho de parto muito longo, quando Ettie respirou pela primeira vez, a mãe estava tão exausta que mal se importava em segurar a filha. Esse comportamento continuou ao longo dos anos… Sua mãe não era de forma alguma abusiva ou desamorosa, ela estava sempre preocupada. Ela estava preocupada em educar as duas filhas mais velhas, depois em encontrar pretendentes para elas e depois em preparar casamentos.
Embora não parecesse sempre que fosse assim, Henrietta e a sua irmã mais próxima em idade usaram esta liberdade a seu favor, explorando o campo e a aldeia onde passaram a maior parte da infância, sendo o seu passatempo ler favorito um livro grosso sentadas no alto gramado de um campo ensolarado e observando a irmã pintar.
À medida que cresceram, as atenções de sua mãe se voltaram para as duas meninas mais novas. Era hora de eles encontrarem seus pares também. As ambições de sua mãe permaneceram tão altas quanto as de suas outras filhas, mas Gracelyn não atendeu aos padrões, nem cedeu aos argumentos de sua mãe, quando anunciou suas intenções de se casar com um fazendeiro de sua aldeia.
Isso acendeu uma faísca em Henrietta, que se revelaria perigosa. Ela não apenas passou mais tempo do que o normal fora de casa enquanto a família planejava o casamento de Gracelyn... Mas ver sua irmã tão feliz com suas próprias decisões a inspirou... E ela sentiu que se sua família se preparava para casar sua irmã com o homem de sua escolha era um bom sinal de que talvez ela pudesse fazer o mesmo. O homem que ela escolheu era filho de um ferreiro da cidade. Ou teria sido, mas eles não chegaram a essa parte da história antes de Evelyn intervir. Ettie manteve seu romance em segredo até que Evelyn encontrou cartas entre os dois e imediatamente as levou para a mãe, Josephine. Henrietta não tinha certeza se a mãe delas estava mais chateada com quem ela decidiu amar, ou porque poderia haver fofocas sobre sua honra que poderiam dissuadir futuros pretendentes. Tudo o que Ettie sabia com certeza era que estava proibida de vê-lo novamente. E isso colocou dentro dela um ódio profundamente enraizado por sua irmã. Que só cresceu quando a mãe anunciou que Evelyn a acompanharia na temporada social do ano de 1873.

No meio do turbilhão do noivado de Gracelyn e do árduo planejamento do casamento, ninguém notou os olhares prolongados, os olhares acalorados trocados entre Henrietta e um jovem que ela conheceu e com quem dançou – DUAS VEZES! – em um dos bailes de Florence. Ele se apresentou como um rico dono de fábrica, aparentemente amigo do marido de Florence, e ficou por perto depois do baile, para “UM POUCO DE AR FRESCO NO CAMPO”. E cortejar Henrietta, claro, em segredo. Longe de olhares indiscretos, o romance deles foi apaixonado e de curta duração, pois, na véspera do casamento de Gracelyn, quando todos se reuniram na casa de campo de Florence, foram descobertos por Josephine – e Ettie repreendeu-a muito por interromper o que havia acontecido. Parecia ser uma proposta! Mas Josephine reconheceu o jovem instantaneamente, proibiu qualquer um dos dois de voltar a falar um com o outro, pois ele não era um mero dono de fábrica, mas um membro da família real belga, um amigo na verdade do marido de Frederica, eles haviam frequentado um internato. junto. Para completar, Josephine informou a Henrietta que ele estava, na verdade, noivo de outra, uma princesa holandesa, eles estavam prometidos um ao outro desde o nascimento. Ettie, totalmente desolada, cortou todo contato com ele, não o viu desde então - embora ela também não tenha conhecimento das dezenas de cartas que ele escreveu para ela, todas queimadas por Josephine ao chegar.

Na posição de mais nova entre quatro filhas, Henrietta sempre teve dificuldade em se definir. Ela passou muito tempo tentando determinar quem ela era. E sempre pulou de cabeça em qualquer oportunidade que surgiu em seu caminho, tentando encontrar seu nicho.
Mas quem conhece Ettie sabe que ela é coração e sentimento. Ela é extremamente carinhosa, embora com uma língua afiada você não consegue, propriamente, chamá-la de gentil. Ela acolheria qualquer um que batesse à sua porta, daria dinheiro a qualquer um que implorasse e cuidaria de um animal selvagem ferido até recuperá-lo, se este lhe permitisse. Ela também é um espírito livre. Quando ela era mais nova, ela era a filha que tinha o cabelo bagunçado e os pés descalços, correndo pelos jardins de sua casa de campo. Como adulta, isso se traduziu em ela ser teimosa, sarcástica e um pouco sonhadora. Muitas vezes ela se esquece de seus modos e das formalidades que algumas interações exigem.

As irmãs Lockhart se consideravam uma só entidade. Elas são excepcionalmente próximas e muito raramente foram vistas umas sem as outras durante a infância. Elas até insistiram em dividir quartos até a adolescência. Nunca perderam contato, é claro, um vínculo de irmã nunca poderia ser quebrado mas todas – exceto Henrietta – agora embarcam em suas próprias jornadas, em suas próprias novas aventuras.
A pior pessoa que Ettie já teve o desprazer de conhecer é – infelizmente – parente dela. O filho da irmã de sua mãe, um menino rebelde, talvez o conversador mais terrível do país. Ele realmente a irrita apenas por existir, ele se preocupa consigo mesmo um pouco mais do deveria, com sua fortuna, sua terra e seu título. Oh,  impertinência é que homens como ele recebam um título, uma educação universitária! Isso a deixa com raiva só de pensar nisso. Ela tenta evitá-lo a qualquer custo.
Henrietta gosta de palavras escritas, por isso não é surpresa que ela tenha encontrado uma alma gêmea no poeta e romancista que reside a poucos passos de sua casa. Embora sua mãe torça o nariz para isso, Ettie faz questão de visitá-lo todos os dias, onde discutirão seu último poema, um romance ou alguma ideia radical sobre a qual ela leu.

Quatro meigas e exemplares senhoritas, quatro corajosos e magníficos cavalheiros, eram assim os irmãos mais velhos de Adeline — o sonho de qualquer mãe. A casa dos Smythe-Smith estava cheia! Talvez demasiado cheia! Com tantos irmãos, era apenas uma questão de tempo até que surgissem discussões, que sentimentos fossem feridos e segredos compartilhados a ouvidos indignos. Ah . . . Isso era apenas o começo dos problemas que aconteciam naquela casa.
Adeline nasceu na madrugada do dia 26 de dezembro de 1853, na casa ancestral de sua família. Foi a última de uma novena de crianças o que levaria as mais comuns das famílias a testar os seus recursos por terem tantos filhos. Os Smythe-Smith seriam a exceção a esse pensamento — afinal Lord Arthur Richard, 2º Duque de Wellington era filho do famoso general e estadista britânico que derrotou Napoleão Bonaparte na Batalha de Waterloo e o ducado que pertencia à família era o mais antigo do Pariato do Reino Unido. Devido ao status do duque, a família Smythe-Smith estava longe de ser pobre. Os seus dotes era notáveis em comparação com muitos outros de classe semelhante, seus vestidos elegantes e a sua casa era frequentemente renovada para se manter por dentro das tendências.
Tudo isto para dizer que a pressão sobre Lord Smythe-Smith era imensa. Ele não se sentia apenas responsável pela família, mas também por manter o estilo luxuoso ao qual estavam acostumados. Sendo essa a principal razão pela qual ele estava sempre ocupado com seus negócios. Smythe-Smith também tinha talento para as aparências, sempre pronto para participar de uma festa ou oferecer um jantar chique.
Nesse contexto, Adeline foi criada e habituada a todo o luxo que o dinheiro e poder podem proporcionar a uma jovem donzela. Recebeu, ainda, a mais das perfeitas e completas educações que uma Lady inglesa do seu tempo poderia receber: teve a sua própria governante e aprendeu todas as regras de etiqueta e diplomacia social, aprendeu francês e italiano, aprendeu a tocar pianoforte e violino e memorizou todos os passos de dança para não envergonhar os seus pais em bailes. Bordados e pinturas eram as disciplinas que, durante os seus anos de formação, maior adversidade lhe provocaram e ela nunca chegou a domá-las com sabedoria, sendo apenas capaz de entregar resultados levemente satisfatórios. 
Lynn  — como a família e amigos mais próximos a tratavam  — tinha recém completado os 15 anos de idade quando, numa tarde despretensiosa, se sentou na secretaria do seu pai a desfolhar o The Daily Universal Register e encontrou um artigo de opinião escrito por um Lord que a deixou fascinada. Adeline não pensou duas vezes antes de reunir algumas folhas, uma caneta de imersão e um tinteiro para compor uma carta ao autor de tão requintada prosa. A jovem só se sentiu hesitante quando terminou de escrever todos os seus pensamentos e opiniões e reflexiva encarou o final do papel na sua frente. Sabia que se assinasse com o seu próprio nome o autor do artigo que a tinha fascinado a iria ignorar. Ninguém queria saber de garotinhas. Por essa razão, fez-se passar pelo seu patriarca e marcou o papel com o símbolo do Duque de Wellington.
À medida que os seus irmãos começaram a sair de casa para construir as suas próprias famílias, Lynn — começou a passar mais tempo com o seu irmão mais velho, Charles, Conde de Mornington. Ele costumava levá-la à cidade enquanto fazia recados e sempre a mimava comprando-lhe algo de que ela certamente não necessitava. Corria o ano de 1871 quando, após uma dessas idas à cidade, Adeline caiu de cama gravemente doente. Durante vários meses, ardeu em febre e como o seu quadro só piorava, o médico da família comunicou aos Duques que deveriam preparar a família para o pior. Todas as suas irmãs regressaram a Stratfield Saye House para se poderem despedir da pequena Adeline. O Duque passava as manhãs no seu quarto, a ler-lhe as principais notícias dos periódicos da época e a Duquesa era a sua companhia durante as tardes. Lady Elizabeth Hay chorava enquanto rezava, pedia a Deus, aos anjos e santos que tivessem clemência pela sua mais nova, que não a jovem não fosse punida pelos pecados dos seus pais. Não imaginava que a sua filha a ouvia e que guardaria as palavras da Duquesa até morrer. Fez mil e uma grandiosas promessas e todas elas cumpriu, assim que Lynn começou a melhorar.
Quando atingiu a maioridade, Adeline havia se transformado em uma jovem inteligente, charmosa e delicada. Sua mãe ainda se recusava a aceitar que Lynn não era mais uma criança, mas a Duquesa acabou por concordar que havia chegado o momento de apresentar a sua última filha perante a sociedade. Com isso, só o tempo dirá o que se esconde por trás da máscara de sede de Lady Smithe-Smith, uma que foi tecida entre meias verdades e charme.

Na posição de mais nova entre nove filhos, desde cedo que Adeline aprendeu que precisava de se diferenciar do resto do grupo para conseguir alguma atenção. Ela era a filhinha do papai e a companheira de fofocas de sua mãe, sempre desejosa de participar de uma boa e longa conversa sobre os estranhos acontecimentos na vida dos seus irmãos. Conhecida por ser tagarela e oferecer ouvidos bem abertos como uma língua solta, logo os seus irmãos aprenderam a manter seus segredos longe dela. Suas fofocas nunca tiveram nenhum pensamento nefasto por trás, ela apenas gosta de conhecer pessoas e ter conversas agradáveis — tendo um caráter um tanto maleável, não é preciso que a empurrem muito antes de ela revelar um segredo que deveria ter guardado, muito para sua consternação quando ela percebe que o voltou a fazer.
Felizmente, e apesar da sua tendência para a fofoca, ela é bastante versada na arte de encantar pessoas. Criada na sombra de uma casa movimentada, sempre soube que precisava de se distinguir de alguma forma e descobriu, nessa busca, como era muito eficaz tornar-se agradável. Ela segue as regras de etiqueta quando necessário, embora também saiba quando quebrá-las, o momento certo para virar as expectativas dos outros de cabeça para baixo, a fim de provocar uma risada e um sorriso de encantados. Bem versada na arte da bajulação, misturando o sincero com o calculado, ela sabe exatamente quais botões apertar para se tornar querida por alguém.
Apesar do seu jeito com as pessoas, ela ainda tem uma certa ingenuidade esperançosa. Ela olha o mundo com estrelas nos olhos, confiando em todos. Por melhor que seja em ganhar graças dos outros, é igualmente simples ganhar as delas, e com isso vem a sua confiança, tornando-se um livro que se abre de forma imprudente.

thinking this morning about how both una’s office and her quarters on enterprise are probably ruthlessly spartan?  like,  no glimmer of anything personal,  not even decorations accumulated from the worlds that they visit.  because she’s so wary of anything that might be self-revelatory,  even by accident.  so,  anything that is in her quarters is hands down something she was gifted by a friend. 
but the fact that she’s in her own way too in love with the universe not to accumulate mementos of some sort from the places she travels to?  the way even she can’t help more sentimentality than she permits those around her to see?  so the way that she probably,  even though she never spends any time on earth,  has a  ( very )  small flat somewhere planetside  ( she has historic european city vibes I think? )  where she keeps all her personal things?  and the fact that no one probably has ever been there,  much less knows she has it.

Hazbin Hotel would be so much more interesting if charlie’s naïveté and surface-level kindness were treated as the actual flaws they are and didn’t work. Heads up, this kinda just turned into a text wall of charlie neg and ranting so don’t read if you don’t want to see that.
How she currently is, she just doesn’t make that much sense in the setting. I’ve seen ppl say that charlie is a fresh take and contrasts the edginess, but I just don’t see how she is possible. You’re telling me she’s been in hell for 200 yrs but still has this childish and naive personality, is still disgusted by the sinners being cannibalistic, violent, and even just horny, and is so detached from those she calls “her people”? She was born in hell, shouldn’t that make her more used to the sinners’ depravity and not less? She doesn’t seem to have a good grasp on what the sinners want or how they behave. It would make more sense if the show leaned into the toxic positivity white savior nepo baby angle (or rather, actually portrayed it as a *bad* thing) and rather than naïveté, her ignorance was out of self-centeredness and/or lack of true empathy for the other sinners. She would be more interesting as a character too imo.
She looks down on the other sinners (and honestly so does the show?? When she’s showing lucifer around and introduces him to her friends, they’re framed as unappealing as a joke… these are the characters the audience is also supposed to care about.. and many of the bg chars, such as the cannibal town residents, are portrayed as simple-minded brutes), there’s a lot of condescending “….ooookay” type of lines and she constantly has to think of nice ways to frame the clearly negative things she thinks about others. So why does she want to save them so much? The more reasonable explanation is a sense of white savior-ness than actually caring about them.
She’s eager to excuse whatever sir pentious did (which I’m assuming she doesn’t know?) and let him in, despite how he makes the other residents (including her own gf!) uncomfortable. And yes I say excuse, because she never inquires about his past sins or discussed him repenting. It seems to start with sorry, but also end with sorry too. This could’ve been made interesting if she simultaneously looked down on but also excused all sorts of heinous acts. Like val is the most openly manipulative and scummy character, he licks her arm, and yet she’s still apologetic about ruining things (Side note, if she’s genuinely apologetic, then she’s actually an idiot because why is she talking to the boom-mic employee *while they’re filming???*).
She doesn’t know what she’s doing and has no concrete plan but gets incredulous at ppl who don’t blindly trust her. Angel has to leave in ep 4 and she gets SO frustrated over it, like you seriously expect everyone to drop all of their other commitments for you? She has her webster definition notecards for the meeting with heaven and has to improvise and rely on angel being good at the club but she gets mad that lucifer isn’t 100% behind her plan?
Also, trust falls? Really? Then she goes “why isn’t this working? We’ve tried everything!” But on that note, the actual episode portrayal is kinda exactly what I’m going for. Not only do the trust falls not work, charlie says, “I love all of you so much,” pulls her puppy eyes, and only vaggie catches her. It’s surface level and shallow, and does not win anyone else over.
In contrast, vaggie’s attempt at building trust, throwing everyone into a battle, *actually works* (despite vaggie only being in hell for 3 years and being heaven-born, she already knows how things work better than charlie!) and yet charlie talks about it as though it already failed. She says “we work best as a team,” with the underlying message being “I can’t trust you to do things on your own.”
If she was waiting so long to reconnect with lucifer, then why hasn’t she called him in years?? Altho I’m currently rotating lucifer in my brain so I might be a bit biased
“If angels can do whatever and stay in the sky” they can’t?? Your dad is RIGHT there. I. What
She has a power dynamic with every other character except lucifer since she has her demon powers, not to mention she’s giving them a place to stay. When vaggie says she appreciates that charlie doesn’t use her powers, charlie doesn’t say “it wouldn’t be right,” she says it would be too *mean.* But if someone pushes her buttons, who’s to say they wouldn’t slip out (see her flip on a dime after val hits angel. Obv it’s justified in this case, but it shows that she’s willing to use her powers on sinners)? Again, it would be interesting if the show actually leaned into this angle. Imagine if she put on a nice front, never swore, seemed genuinely touching and understanding, but the second someone annoys her she annihilates them and becomes threatening and violent. Then she turns around and is nice again. Too much like alastor? idk
Also, many characters refer to her by calling her lucifer’s daughter, so clearly ppl know that if they cross her they’ll face his wrath by proxy (this also fits in thematically with what lute tells her in the first episode, that she’s exempt from the exterminations bc nepotism privilege). So realistically, everyone else would be a bunch of sucking-up yes-men bc they’re afraid of her. Which they kind of are when push comes to shove?
At first, she doesn’t help at all during the war and lets everyone else fight for her. Doesn’t want to get her hands dirty ig, even though all of this was caused by her in the first place. She only starts fighting at vaggie’s urging.
Like husk points out, every meeting charlie has with the angels makes things worse for all the sinners. Despite lucifer’s warnings that the meeting with heaven won’t work, and against vaggie saying to calm down, charlie basically picks a fight with heaven at the risk of *everyone else EXCEPT HER.*
What were charlie and lilith doing to stop the exterminations before lilith took her 7 year leave? Hell, what was charlie doing during those 7 years? Why does she have 0 connections outside of vaggie, who she only met 3 yrs ago? Why does she have to introduce herself to rosie, rather than her already knowing her name?
Also in ep 7 she says to alastor “I can’t believe how you can do exactly what you told me you would do!” (standing by and watching everyone fail at redemption) almost like she wasn’t paying attention to him at all.
“Why would vaggie hide that she was an exterminator” -> Rosie asks “how did that make you feel?” “It made me mad and doubt if she loves me” like I get it, it was a betrayal, but IS she stupid
Ready For This is charlie manipulating a town of ppl to join the army. Her pitch includes “on the way to the hotel the scenery is nice and you can make friends :3” and “have you ever wanted to die for a cause? Notably I myself am spared from being killed but uh that’s your problem.” Alastor pipes in that you can eat the angels and that’s what actually moves the crowd, because he understands them.
Her perspective on violence and where she chooses to draw the line is really confusing. Why does she care about sinners being violent to each other if they’ll just respawn? She stops alastor from beating up sir pentious at an arbitrary point, but is fine with him eating and presumably killing the gangsters who come after mimzy. (Edit: forgot to point out yet another example, that she was fine with vaggie tossing sir pentious and angel off the balcony but stops her from tossing niffty as well for no reason.) Why is she so apologetic to the angels actively killing sinners but was distraught over vaggie having partaken? Why was she opposed to the CANNIBALS being eager to eat the angels and saying “idk, they seem kinda murder-y” WHAT. What? I’m struggling to even begin to describe how ignorant that is during a WAR. What did she think was going to happen, that she wouldn’t have to fight anyone herself? Why did she stop her dad from killing Adam but doesn’t react strongly to Niffty finishing the job? If it mattered so much to her, the lack of reaction seems strange to me.
Isn’t it just so poetic that her weapon in the war is a shield that she uses exclusively on herself, which she hardly even needs due to her contractual immunity?
Why doesn’t she think to use her powers to build and maintain the hotel? That doesn’t require any violence or domineering. Yet when lucifer comes over it’s run-down and falling apart. Or ask lucifer to help her build it? She was concerned that asking for the meeting with heaven was such a big ask—why not start with this small thing? Father-daughter bonding.
Why does the show end w lucifer + the sinners congratulating her, and in particular, rebuilding the hotel? Hell doesn’t know that sir pentious got redeemed, so from their pov charlie’s idea didn’t work at all.
Can you tell that I’m writing this while I’m rewatching the show?
Aaand that’s that. Her char has always come off to me as somewhat condescending/fake, but I keep finding more and more things to dislike about the way she’s been written. Unfortunate. Honestly tho I might enjoy watching her more if I read her through this lens. You could probably write a similar post for most/all other chars in the show, limited only by the amount of screentime they get lmao

mostly just wanna say... i was very casually thinking "oh jordan/marie might be fun" before this ep but didn't fully think they'd go there just because... I don't know, I guess my ingrained belief that any sort of queer char outside the "norm" is not gonna be in a relationship with the main lead of a tv show? which is sad but I'm glad they are going for it? my one hesitation right as they kissed the first time was "shit is this gonna be a thing where it's just mariexboy-jordan and it's kinda heteronormative even w a distinctly queer character?" but the ending, i am now very much on board because yay queer marie, yay genderfuckery, and yay rivals to begrudging allies to lovers... i love it...
i was laughing that boy-jordan actor (derek something? Maybe? I am not great on the actor names for this show yet) basically did nothing this ep besides kiss marie tho lmao i do wonder in the writing/directing of the show how much they decided when each actor would be playing jordan - both for story implications but also in terms of giving the actors stuff to do, just an interesting thing to consider
also what are we callin it. jorrie? jordie? mardan? I think i like jordie
anyways i don't really give a shit about cate/andre or sam/emma i mean they're both fine but I am HERE for jordan and marie i hope it continues to be interesting and doesn't turn into any kind of sad cop out "one time thing" or shit

i will have to go look up what the fuck Tek Knight's power is supposed to be because it seemed like... super senses or super observation? like sherlock or the guy from psych? but i thought Tek Knight was supposed to be an iron man parody so i had been expecting something tech related... i cant decide if i found him entertaining or not... i guess, slightly. the whole "he just fucks things all the time because of a tumor" thing didn't really hit the mark for me it didn't quite land as funny nor like, an interesting way for dean shetty to one up him ... how man things he fucked in that montage IN PUBLIC SPACES i don't believe that it isn't ALREADY on instagram lol

i'm glad they confirmed giant emma is a thing too lol but imagine growing that large and then your bits are just on full display to everyone. your giantized bits. enlarged for easy viewing. i know a lot of people become naked with their powers in this universe so it's probably not AS weird for them but .. lol
ON THAT NOTE... JORDAN should share their secret for magic clothing that fits you perfectly no matter when your body changes with emma. lmao i kid but it's weird to me that every other character on this show whose power morphs their body in such a way that clothes would fall off or get destroyed (Emma, Golden Boy, etc) or otherwise be impracitcal (Translucent and the other invisible RA guy), they stick to the "realism" in that sense... which is just making me fixate on how the FUCK do jordan's clothes work? i mean, they have great style, but also their outfits fit PERFECTLY in both forms. and i'm like how? how does that work? they are very different sizes. Also like... are they wearing a bra? looks like it at least in some of the outfits w the tight shirts. Where's the bra go when they go into masculine form? huh? i wouldn't be asking these questions at all if the show didn't specifically call attention to clothing with everyone else's powers lmao.
Also I have to say the dick exploding scene felt really random and unnecessary .. there are times when the audacious/gory scenes on this show (and The Boys) really work but a handful of them on this show so far aren't hitting quite as much for me and feeling more like they just insist upon doing more of them to remind you "this is a The Boys spinoff!!! remember??? it's The Boys!!! Exploding Dicks!!!" like it'd be OKAY if you went an episode without genitals exploding... this show is already different... there's still people dying... we know...

Dorsey Armstrong’s insightful comparison of source texts leads her to observe that ‘the agreement [to have sex] between Arthur and Lot’s wife, while implied in Malory’s source text—the Suite du Merlin—is not given the emphasis found in Le Morte Darthur.’ However, Armstrong also concludes that ‘it is her willing participation in the conception of Mordred—not the adultery or the unintentional incest—that prepares the reader for Arthur’s nephew/son to be such a monster.’ While Morgause’s conception of Mordred of course greatly limits any constructive influence she might have on Arthur’s kingdom, that is not to say that Morgause’s role as mother of the enemy necessarily depicts her in a negative light. There is no evidence to suggest that Morgause has any magical foreknowledge that her night with Arthur will produce Mordred, so her conception of him cannot be called ‘willing’; it is crucial to look past the consequences of Morgause’s actions and rather to focus on char- acter reactions to her and other textual details in order to gain true insight into her portrayal in Le Morte Darthur.
Morgause is first mentioned in Malory’s text during her marriage to King Lot, which is arranged by Uther (5/1:2). Malory’s comment that the weddings took place at Uther’s command emphasises the absence of love from these unions, which equates Morgause with Guinevere and Isode to some extent; none of these queens voice any suggestions of affection towards their husbands. Malory consistently equates troubled marriages with such an absence of emotion, and this perhaps prepares the reader for Morgause’s affairs.

Morgause’s affair with Arthur does not reflect such a love, and Armstrong rightly points out that Malory emphasises her complicity in the affair. In Malory’s source text, La Suite du Merlin, the anonymous queen has heard rumours that Arthur could be her brother, but this news is rather glossed over, for later, she finally sleeps with him: ‘Le fist demourer en sa court II. mois entiers, et tant qu’en chelui terme il gut a li et engenra en li Mordrec’ [He kept her at the court for two whole months, and after so much time lay with her and begat on her Mordred]. It is worth noting that in the Vulgate version Lot’s wife is entirely blameless, for Arthur slips into her bed when Lot is away and she mistakes the youth for her husband. Morgause of Le Morte Darthur is more forthright in declaring her consent to participate in the affair than her predecessors, but Malory gives no judgement on her actions, directly or through any of the other characters, and certainly removes any suggestion that she may have wittingly committed incest.

A/N - Hello!! This is my little treat for valentines day, I was supposed to do more chars but I wrote this in like few hours and valentines is nearly over soo..... yea. Be warned now, this is purely based off a non smoker's pov lmao.

-♡- ✮ Izuku Midoriya ✮ To say it was late would be an understatement, but here you both were, sitting on a roof of some fancy party you both didn't seem to care for. It was drifting into unholy hours of the night and with each passing second the thick scent of the joint you were smoking began to linger abit more on Izuku's mind. It wasn't that he cared, no not at all! Infact you had made sure he was comfortable multiple times, asking him over and over before you lit the rolled bundle of weed between your fingers, effortlessly might he add. You continued talking to him casually and for that he thanked god because he was sure if you took a moment to pause you would hear his heart thumping against his chest. Or maybe you would notice how his eyes kept flickering back to your hands, how his pupils were blown and for a moment he held his breath when you finally lit the joint. He hated how nervous he was getting. He was a pro hero for Christ's sake! The pro hero infact. Izuku seemed to be in his own little world, not that you minded much. A comfortable silence fell over the two of you, clouds of smoke blown out into the midnight sky. You leaned back, head falling comfortably as you basked in the moons radiance before carefully turning your gaze to Izuku. Who by now was staring intently at you. Or more accurately the joint that hung loosely from your lips. So focused on the burning joint Izuku failed to notice the way your eye's fell onto his, forest green seemingly hazy under the dim lit night. It took him a fair bit of time before his eye's suddenly snapped up to meet your own, sheepishly trying to hide the pink coat of heat that radiated from his face. He stilled for a moment, trying his hardest not to rip his eyes from yours. You looked up at his fondly for a moment, before something swirled in your eye's causing the poor hero to gulp unintentionally. You took the blunt from your lips, holding it between two fingers, eye's still glued to his as you spoke. The words fell from your lips like silk, drifting lazily into the wall of a man you sat next too. "You wanna try?" It was a simple question, simple enough for even a toddler to understand but something about it certainly hadn't clicked in his head. Because if it had maybe he would have answered in words instead of the obscure noise he made. Somehow between a high pitched yelp of a teenage boy and a stunned cry of a bird he had managed to land what he was sure was the worlds most embarrassing "huh?!" He felt asif he had been caught doing something he wasn't supposed too and the way you were staring at him wasn't really helping either. Your heavy gaze was settled onto his face once more, corner of your mouth turned up in amusement as you looked up at him through your lashes, smoke drifting out from your lips as you took a long drag of the joint.
God. God. His heart was racing as he tried to still his jumping nerves. I mean certainly you were just being polite. He had to be imagining things, imagining the way your head tilted so innocently, the way you licked your lips like you were egging him on. The night was cold but he felt anything but; he felt hot. Too hot. A moment passed. And another. And yet another before you re-enforced your question once again. "Well? What'll it be, Deku?" His hero name sounded like hot honey coming from you. Sweet and burning in a way that only made him want, no, need more. He found the words before he could think a straight thought. "Show me how to do it-" he paused for a moment, firm tone melting away as he took a small breath "Please..?" Your eye's widened abit, no expecting him to agree by any means. But regardless your hand reached up to his neck, fingernails scraping along the soft skin his adams apple bobbed under your touch. Slowly you brought your hand under his chin, tilting his head down as his lips sat ajar. Your fingers were gentle as you directed him towards you more. Stopping for a second as you looked into his eyes, hooded with anticipation. "Are you sure you want to try? You don't have to ya know-"
He knew what you meant (to some degree), and in return he nodded holding a shaky breath as you searched his eyes for a moment before continuing; now bringing the joint to your lips. Taking your time you began to work your way through the joint. One puff at a time you inhaled as much as your lungs would allow, leaving Izuku confused as you placed down last of the blunt. Finally you looked back up at him, before guiding his lips parted lips towards your own. Thick and heavy the smoke filled his lungs as your lips meet his. He was shocked, words failing him as he stiffened causing you to pull away abit, nervousness overtaking you for a moment. That was until he pulled you closer. Returning your advance ten fold; a throaty whine leaving him softly. It was messy as he leaned in more, lips capturing your own hungrily. Greedily drinking in every drop he could get as your hand left his chin, opting instead to run through his thick green hair. Smoke filled the space between you both, passion and desire driving you before the need for air became more apparent than any of you would have liked. Hesitantly you pulled away, leaving the pro hero breathless, hair messy and eye's blown out. Frankly if anyone had asked you this was the best he'd looked all night.
You took a moment to catch your breath, regaining your composure before you turned your attention back to the green hair man. You smiled at him before grabbing the blunt once again; slyly holding it up as you spoke. "Want another try?" He nodded wordlessly, before you handed him the burning blunt. Laughing at your own little joke you wiped the tears that pricked the corner of your eye's before a large hand turned your head. Izuku looked less than amused as he bought your attention back to him. "C'mon peaches we both know that's not what I meant" he said almost pouting before you let out another laugh, faking your own shocked innocence. "Oh, it wasnt?" "No it wasn't." Again that same pout. "Oh well, guess it's too late now." You sighed as you grinned at Izuku, clearly enjoy the poor mans suffering. You turned you gaze towards the sky as Izuku begrudgingly took a hit of the joint. What you didn't expect was to once again find your lips on his, this time the smoke leaking from the corners of his lips. You didn't protest leaning into his grasp while he took the reigns, leading your face towards his. Hand caressing the side of your face nudging you closer to him as he drank you in once again, insatiably almost. You both stayed like that until the smoke subsided and yet again air became a problem. This time Izuku opting to pull away, leaving you chasing his embrace much to his enjoyment. Now painfully aware of just how cold the night really was you found that same smirk you held earlier plastered on Izuku's face. "Very funny Midoriya." You said with a playful roll of the eye's only him to hum dis contently. Looking asif he had swallowed a lemon he cringed down at you, causing confusion to bubble up onto your face. "What?" "Thats not my name." He stated simply, low and quietly asif he was afraid to say it any louder. "Not to you, not after this" You smiled, before pulling his arm over your shoulders enjoying the comforting weight. "Alright then, Izuku" He hummed happily, resting against you comfortably. "That's better. Next time say it a little louder. Something in Don Webb's "Seven Faces of Darkness" alerted me to an aspect of solar myth linked to lust that I probably intuited when reading about Aleister Crowley's portrayal of the Devil as Pan-Pangenetor. It concerns the "total wakefulness of Mendes" via PGM IV. 3255-74.
"Total wakefulness" is linked to the erotic unrest meant to be induced by the spell and many other spells within the PGM, while Mendes links to B3-nb-Dd.t, or rather the Ba of Djedet, Banebdjedet, the Ba of Mendes in the form of a ram. Webb pronounces the name as Bab-Net-Tett and refers to it as a goat who personified lust. Believe it or not that's not totally off the mark. Hans Dieter Betz identified B3-nb-Dd.t as the name of a ram-formed incarnation of Ra, the sun god. Betz notes that this form of Ra was frequently identified with gods such as Pan and Priapus, both of whom were often associated with sexual desire. This is also predictably where we get into Herodotus' legend of the "goat of Mendes", which he identified with Pan.
Banebdjedet though was always traditionally identified with Osiris or as an aspect of Osiris, though he has been linked to other deities such as Ptah, Ra-Atum, Shu, and Geb. The ram was usually a symbol of virility and also the nocturnal form of Ra as Ra-Osiris. That this Ba of Mendes is associated with sexual desire and lust in the magical context makes sense, since rams were already symbolically associated with virility. Greek writers thus identified Banebdjedet, or a sacred goat alleged to have been worshipped at Mendes, with Pan. There is apparently even a legend about a Persian king who sacked the temple of Mendes and then went mad after eating the sacred goat.
I suppose then the link that Webb proposes between Banebdjedet/Bab-Neb-Tett and Baphomet is not a total stretch of the imagination. In fact, Eliphas Levi himself identified the goat-headed image of Baphomet with Banebdjedet based on Herodotus’ description of the “Ram of Mendes”, which in turn became the Goat of Mendes, either way a Greek reference to Banebdjedet as Pan. From an occult standpoint, that link is definitely credible, and speaks to solar lust and virility, and, in the context of PGM IV. 3255-74, its association with the power to overturn the order of nature, despite also affirming that order to some extent through procreation.
But now we have to look at a paradox. On the one hand, Plutarch associated the "goat at Mendes" that Herodotus talked about with Osiris, ironically on the grounds that Osiris is really Reason (Logos), which is pretty ironic for the lust that Herodotus associated with the goat. On the other hand, the association of Banebdjedet with Seth-Typhon in PGM IV. 3255-74 implies an association of the lust of the ram/goat with the power to overturn the natural order, which more closely befits the way Plutarch associatied Typhon with the sun and irrationality. Indeed, the ram as a solar symbol had both associations in ancient Egypt: positive creative divine energy on the one hand, and the power to threaten the cosmic order on the other hand. Such is the dual symbolsim of the Black Ram.
Corvis Nocturnum has an interesting description of Baphomet that points to something valuable: "mindless, only filled with a Dionysian will to grow, feed, mate, survive and die, again and again, and it exists inside every living being." That description is essentially Crowley's description of Baphomet as the figure of The Devil in his Book of Thoth, which he identified with not only Pan but also Satan, Set, and the Sun.
Crowley refers to The Devil as representing creative energy in its "most material" form. The goat on the card is linked to Baphomet, as portrayed by Eliphas Levi, and to Pan. In fact, Crowley refers to the card itself as Pan Pangenetor, or Pan the All-Begetter. The card is also linked with the sign of Capricornus ("horned goat"), which Crowley interprets as a "goat leaping with lust upon the summits of the earth". The sign is ruled by Saturn, selfhood and perpetuity, and is exalted in Mars, the fiery and material energy of creation. The creative force represented by Capricornus is said to be "rough", "harsh", "dark", or even "blind". It is an impulse that does not account for reason, custom, or even foresight, divinely unscrupulous, without care for the result. Essentially, this force is "pure will". The sun, like The Devil, is seen by Crowley as a universe creative force. In fact, Crowley also argued in Magick in Theory and Practice that Satan was believed to be evil because he was associated with the burning rays of the sun, just like Typhon according to Plutarch.
The link between the goat and the sun in Crowley's context certainly had a lot to do with his own solar-phallic persona and solar myth, as Kenneth Anger noted, but it also inevitably lines up with certain Gnostic concepts of the Demiurge, some of which were really Devils. Yaldabaoth goes by another name: Samael. In this Gnostic context, the name Samael denotes the blindness of the creator of the world, a demon who created matter and claimed himself to be God, but was not the true God (remember, this is still by Christian standards). In early Christian writings "the creator of the world" was blind. In context this is meant to mean unaware and ignorant of the presence of Jesus Christ and the "true" God of Christianity. This argument is emphasized by Paul in the First and Second Epistles to the Corinthians, and in this respect Paul and some Gnostic sects are actually on the same page.
At the intersection of it all I think we get closer and closer to the kind of solar creativity and lust that fixates Satanism, "modern" occultism, and ancient pagan magic, perhaps bringing these worlds together in the forma of antinomian, Crowleyan, and satanic solar myth.
