what do you guys think revali and link's love languages are?

for revali, it's absolutely words of affirmation but i'd also like to propose quality time as his "secret" love language. nobody wouldn't expect this stuck up birdie to be a sucker for doing things like flying together or napping in a hammock together, but once you think about it more, it makes more sense. and revali's arrogance and irritation are significantly quelled after getting back from a training session at the flight range or fishing in the hebra plunge with link.

for link, it's most certainly physical touch and i propose his "secret" one as acts of service. i love the headcanon that rito "kiss" by pressing their foreheads together and nuzzling each other or whatever, but i think link is the #1 rito kiss enthusiast. at this point, everyone in rito village has seen link on his tiptoes cupping revali's face in his teeny little hylian hands to initiate a rito kiss and revali's squawking and complaining, but ultimately returns the gesture much to link's delight.

i love the idea of revali braiding and doing hair maintenance on link as part of their nightly routine, or link looking for his weapons because where the fuck did they go until he finds revali in their shared roost, polishing his shields and retying his bow strings, all of his quivers fully stocked of regular and elemental arrows. revali is still quite bristly and blunt, so he's all mumbling embarrassed at being caught doing something sweet for his mate like, "it's incredibly dumbfounding that they still call you the hero of hyrule when your idea of weapon maintenance is sliding your blades against a rock like a bokoblin" or "i see now why you go through bows within a moon as quickly as you eat. you aren't changing your bow strings out and you're just using them until they snap! were i any less disturbingly infatuated with you, i'd dissolve our coupling for such atrocious behaviors." link just smiles at him, fond and warm, and any irritation revali feels dissipates into the air as he returns to the weapons, his feathers ruffling and muttering under his breath.

oop. now i feel like writing fic for this. 😳

it's amazing how tulin has developed the ability to control the winds at such a young age, no doubt his admiration for revali playing a role in that. my only hope is that this was something that he learned himself through years of practice, just like revali, instead of it being the innate ability he's always had by being a descendant of the sage of wind. idk, i just like the thought of him working for it

ooh I've never thought abt it before! I feel like they'd probably choose to adopt an orphan? since they're both canonically orphans bc I said so and they know how it felt to try and survive in a world that is not kind to those without parents, they want to be able to protect other kids from having to know that pain if they can help it 🥹

their first child is a rito, who was orphaned at a young age bc the single mother died shortly after childbirth :'( normally when a fledgeling is left without parents in rito village the community tries their best to collectively raise the fledgeling, but as we've seen with revali, this doesn't work out very well as the fledgeling doesn't receive the proper attention or care they need to develop. so when link and revali hear about the young orphan, they volunteer to take her in as their own. don't ask me name of the kid though bc idk AJDBAJDH

they live together as a small happy family for several years. ofc as new parents, link and revali have some struggles, but they're able to talk with other parents like saki and teba and amali about parenting tips. link also learns a lot more about rito culture and what is traditional when raising a fledgeling (don't ask me what these traditions and cultures are idk man💀). revali is also learning about a lot of these for the first time because he was never really raised in a traditional way and didn't realize parental figures were supposed to do all these things because certainly no one did for him :((

one day on one of their travels together (they left their fledgeling at home because they knew there would be monsters on the road and they didn't want to put their daughter in any potential danger🥺🥺) they see a camp of monsters off the side of the road. they go to fight them, but as they move closer, they realize the monsters had taken a little hylian toddler and were harassing and attacking him, and suddenly link is remembering his own childhood, powerless against monsters and hylian bullies alike, so alone and afraid, and link is moving before he can realize what is happening, his head buzzing with the only thought to protect the kid. revali quickly moves to back him up in the fight, and it's over in a matter of minutes.

there's a treasure chest that unlocks when all the monsters are killed, but link couldn't care less about that, he's rushing towards the boy to see if he's okay or injured, if his parents are around, and the toddler can only look up at him helplessly, eyes wide and tear-filled, so clearly and incredibly alone and abandoned. link turns to revali, who has been watching this exchange, and says, "we have to take him in."

revali knows the look in link's eyes, the face of someone remembering their past, the same face link wakes up with after nightmares of the calamity. he knows they both have a chance to protect this boy from a life on the streets, from being tormented by the evils that lurk on the streets and in civilizations, and so they decide to bring the boy home with them.

when they return to rito village, they introduce their daughter to the boy. she's still very young, so they do their best to explain how they found him without the traumatizing details, but when they tell her that he will be joining their family, she holds the boy in her arms and looks up at them reverently, whispering, "I'm going to be a big sister?" with joy in her eyes.

and relief floods revali and link, knowing that their family is going to be okay, that they'll all be able to take care of each other, that their children will be raised with the support only siblings can provide, that they will cherish this family forever. it's not a perfect family, and it's certainly not borne of blood relations, but the emotional bond they all have with each other is stronger than blood could ever be

I just watched the clip of revali and tulin in aoc and idk man I just love it so much and I cried because like…. wow I had to take a moment and think about the fact that tulin is not only the new wind sage but he’s REVALI’S SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR

don’t get me wrong I do love teba as well and he was p much the champion in botw. but tulin literally told revali in aoc that he wanted to be just like him and one day master the great eagle bow and idk maybe bc I JUST watched teba pass the great eagle bow down to tulin but that really took me out and my eyes started to water jahsjsjssjsjdhdh

and revali like literally not being his usual asshole self and melting at how soft and cute and sweet tulin is and he was like “yk one day you could end up just like me, who knows” AND THE EXCITED LITTLE SOUNDS TULIN MADE TO TEBA ABOUT HIS HERO ENCOURAGING HIM 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

like idk I’m glad the new sage was tulin and not teba. like sidon being the new water sage makes sense, I’m glad they didn’t introduce another zora or anything but besides sidon revali was my favorite and I didn’t learn about tulin till totk BUT tulin has this youthful innocence and endearing confidence that just makes me feel like I’ve known him forever (when I tell you his little intro cutscene in totk made me tear up… it’s so pure and so wholesome 🥹)

tulin just has this little shounen protagonist energy and I love it so (it fits with his va being the voice of killua who —while I’ve never watched hxh— I know is a shounen protagonist) and he just has such a big heart and just thinking about how he now holds revali’s bow just got to me man

also this all came up bc I was listening to colgera’s theme and how dragon roost, molgera, rito village AND the vibe of revali’s theme were all mixed in there. truly legendary it’ll be an iconic theme in the future I know it

man wind temple got hands…. video games man 🫠🥹

thinking about the champions fighting off a monster horde together and revali acting as link's support to make sure no monsters get the jump on him, but at some point he shoots an arrow near link with the intention of hitting a monster at the same time link turns his head to look at revali.

the arrow grazes link's face leaving a cut, and revali watches it all happen in slow motion, from the moment link starts to turn his head to the moment it draws blood and link winces. utter horror floods revali's veins so he knocks and shoots as many monsters around him and link as he can, then drops to the ground stalking over to link to check the injury.

he's snapping and spitting link for being an idiot and putting himself in the line of fire (and also gently adding healing salve to it), but inside, revali is completely horrified to have injured link. his aim is usually so precise and clean, he doesn't know how he could have made such a rookie mistake. luckily, it's a light wound... (but it could have been worse, a voice whispers in the back of revali's mind)

after the battle, they return to hyrule castle and after the debriefing with the princess, revali immediately books it to the archery range at the training grounds and starts shooting as many bullseyes as he can. his aim has never failed him, he's never hurt anyone like that, especially not link. he keeps replaying the moment link got injured because of him in his head... revali refuses to let it happen again, he can never inflict harm onto link with his craft like that ever again. he couldn't live with himself if he did.

The time loop is one of my ultimate favourite tropes. It’s dramatic, and ugly, and bittersweet, and weird! Taking the reader through each life and exploring their ever changing dynamic with Revali and the people around them came with its own set of challenges that I eventually had a lot of fun figuring out! Revali is also such a great character with so many hidden layers and potential to grow—like I just can’t get enough of him lol. Hearing that people actually enjoy the way I interpret his personality makes me so glad to be part of this botw community and I wish my brain worked faster so I could write more HAHA!

imagining it being sung from link's point of view, traversing the empty, rundown hyrule of botw after he beats the calamity and the spirits of the champions have already passed onto the afterlife, except for one. revali stays behind, and decides to watch over link; his spirit can't pass on because he regrets never having confessed his feelings to link back then, the least he could do was put it into something useful if he was to stay 🥹

and so revali becomes the ghost of hyrule, a ghost that link sees everywhere but can never catch up to. he's the mirage of a sharp glare in link's morning tea, the biting wind pinching link's cheeks in the flight range, the breeze that tousles link's bangs and tucks his hair behind his ears when he sits atop the rito rock pillar. a ghost too familiar from even beyond link's regained memories, one who never leaves him alone, found in every corner of hyrule but one that link can never corner and always slips from his fingers, just always out of his reach.

just... link traveling all over hyrule again and no matter, where he looks, he catches glimpses of revali everywhere, here and there, in the distance. this ghost that haunts him, but somehow seems to protect him and watch over him. this ghost that link dreams of sometimes, of a life that seems so far away, of one where they possibly loved each other. could it be true, that this familiar ghost once loved him?

(link wonders if he loved it back; and somehow he knows, that he did.)

A very loose prompt: a while ago I found a bunch of Stone tower temple theme covers (especially NostalgiCore's and TheNamelessBard's covers), and that got me in a Revalink mood: first, a pretty straightforward idea of Revali and BotW!Link somehow walking around Stone Tower ruins and wondering just what those ruins were in its prime, and second: the tunes living on, and Revali or Link dancing to one of them while the other is watching (also, the fact that one of the catchiest fan lyrics go "danger lurks around every bend, you cannot succed alone; sing the song, let go of your grief, solider comes whose heart is stone" could be pretty easily made to fit revalink: both Link and Revali have reasons to craft an image of themselves as an unsheakeble warrior (Link literally stopped talking out of fear of saying the wrong thing, and Revali tries to look like the most arrogant Rito to ever walk Hyrule, despite evidence to the countrary) as someone who may as well have a heart of stone, and both of them have things they grieve about, so them going together through Ikana valley - a place that requires putting ghosts to rest - would sound a lot like fulfilling the lyrics. Bonus points if they actually need to solve the Stone Tower puzzles together to go back to BotW and key Ikana characters are still around to help them(not really ship relevant, I just thought it would be lowkey funny when BotW boys would bump into Ikana undead and learn that one of the Hero incarnations had shown up here already).

anon i first want to sincerely apologize it took me so long to answer this ask because (1) i never finished playing majora's mask so i can't write a good enough fic to do justice to mm lore and (2) it was sent during a time when i was probably prepping for an exam. i'm still prepping for exams, i have another one next wednesday 😭

iirc, termina is a completely different world from hyrule and oot!link somehow gets in after an altercation with skull kid who has the majora's mask. spoilers for people who haven't played mm? but i just read that termina was a creation of skull kid's own mind so it's not even a real world 😳 so i'm interested to know how link and revali got into the stone tower temple in the first place, or if another temple of the same name perhaps exists in hyrule analogous to the one in termina. like would they run into skull kid somewhere in botw's hyrule? or find the mask on their own (since majora's mask is available in botw as dlc) and somehow termina still exists within the mask? link why the fuck would you put on the mask what da hell?

i would assume that termina's existence relies on skull kid's active envisionment of it and link's constant resetting with the ocarina that causes the perpetual three-day time loop and prevents the moon from falling. and in addition, that termina was created with the purpose of being skull kid's plaything to . hurt and kill people out of his frustration? like i said, i never got to finish mm so i'm kind of iffy on the details of the story sawrryy ✋😭 but it's like. does termina go against the conventions of time? if we assume that termina is a creation of skull kid's imagination, will it be able to continue existing as its own world? will it always be in a three-day loop or after oot!link saves termina, does it continue in a regular continuous flow of time, therefore resulting in the ruins of the stone tower temple? would places like clock town still be thriving thousands of years later? like what if link and revali met skull kid somehow in botw, pissed him off, got dragged in termina, and had to go exactly through what oot!link did in order to escape LMAOOO

i could imagine revali and link bickering about how the other was the reason why they got into this mess, and then they step into clock town from within the clock tower and are completely shocked because they were just in the lost woods and now they're in the middle of a town??? you mentioned wanting to see them meet key mm characters specifically from ikana, but since i don't know any of them (i'm sorry again 😭), imagine link and revali meeting anju at the stockpot inn just trying to get a room to sleep and anju being like. huh. your name is link, too? and having to explain to revali n link that a child in green with the same name and disposition as botw!link had come to termina years ago and saved their town from the moon falling and destroying it. and revali and link are just like. The moon was WHAT? and a CHILD saved you????

link and revali joining in during the carnival of time, and maybe the carnival of time now has a segment where they retell the story of the child in green who saved termina through song and dance, and link gets roped into dancing with the townspeople during the stone temple tower piece. he doesn't know the dance at all, but one thing about link is that he picks up very quickly on everything 😙 so revali is off to the sides of the town center with everyone else crossing his arms, watching link as he begins to catch onto the choreography and keeping in step with the rest of the dancers. he spins and twirls and claps with the other dancers, a smile growing on his face as the song continues, and revali is completely enamored. link had always been beautiful to him, but he was constantly surprisingly revali. this might become one of revali's favorite aspects of link's beauty now.

by the end of the dance, link is panting, sweating, and his cheeks are flushed with a rosy glow. revali's eyes are still on him; they never left link at all. someone nudges revali with their elbow and he glances at them briefly. "that one yours?" they say with a smirk, pointing their chin at link. revali looks back at link, who's smiling brightly thanking and complimenting the other dancers. the little hylian then catches revali's eye, and his bright grin becomes a shy, but warm smile.

revali's gaze softens. "he's not a object to possess," he says to the stranger. he watches as link bows slightly to the other dancers in farewell, then begins to jog back over to revali. "but if there's any possession occuring, it would be his hold on my heart." the stranger says nothing, eyes wide.

once link approaches, his jog falters into a walk. "have fun?" revali says, rather softly.

link nods, smiling. "i didn't think i'd learn it that fast, but it was a really fun dance."

revali hums. "well, it looked like you had fun doing it. ready to turn in for the night?"

"mhm," link replies, and revali can hear the drowsiness beginning to seep into his ever-slumberous songbird's voice. the little hylian then moves forward to cling to revali's wing, and the rito glances at the stranger who's been watching their exchange the entire time.

"enjoy the rest of your evening," revali says primly to him. he tosses his braids over his shoulder as they turn away to walk back to the inn. while he didn't "own" link, it was true, at least, that his heart was for link to own.

i don't want this to get too long and end up misremembering details or something, but imagine some of the lyrics of the stone tower temple song resonating too deeply with revali and link after they think about it later, so they ask anju about it and she tells them about the actual stone tower temple in ikana valley that the song talks about and maybe that's how they end up traveling to the temple, exploring the ruins, somehow getting booby-trapped inside, and having to complete old-school dungeon puzzles to get out 😄
