Anywho! Soft OC Ask!

🌹 Where in the world does your OC feel most at home? Is there any reason why? If it’s not the place they were born, where were they born? Is there a certain somebody that makes them feel at home where ever they may be? What does home mean to them?

Killian is a particularly interesting case for this question because he was a stowaway, and is still currently figuring out where he even belongs in the world. (He thinks it's kicking the ass of his older brother and proving to his family he's worthy of upholding their high-skill mercenary tradition, but as his player I'll tell you that he's wrong lol)

Killian feels the most at home when working a forge, crafting weaponry, or tending to his own. It gives him quiet time to think and focus. And, while he would never say it, he enjoys being able to contribute to the well-being and safety of the crew, and being appreciated by the ship's engineer, which isn't exactly something he got at home.

Speaking of home, he was born in Ellara! Which in the campaign setting is a country of mostly adventurers, and serves as a demilitarized zone. I haven't actually picked a particular town, since he's my backup character in case I can't play Tiarnan.

Killian probably doesn't really know what home means to him in any substantial way, if you asked him he'd give you the dictionary definition, and if pushed for a more meaningful definition then he'd probably make an excuse and leave.

☀️- Does this oc make good or bad first impressions?

Rowan: I think they leave pretty good first impressions, maybe in a "this person seems shy but chill" way, although some people might find them a little off putting, likely for autism related reasons.

Koemi: many people probably find her super intense, but she kind of likes that, weeding out the bigots and the people who simply can't handle her vibes is important. however, many will also find her incredibly likable and want to be her friend.

Both of these answers of course ignore the fact that these two really didn't have any friends besides each other for most of their lives. I'm answering this probably thinking of how others might have made first impressions of them in college - but I have other thoughts about what happened when those people actually got to know them.

🌴- Who is this oc's favorite person?(Can be another oc, a fictional character, a celebrity, anyone)

Rowan: aside from Koemi, who is their favorite person in the whole world, Rowan really looks up to Maria, a Drag Queen who is sort of their mentor, and also their boss. Maria runs a costumey thrift shop, where Rowan is her sole employee. Maria offered Rowan a home outside of their shitty parental situation ever since they were a teen, and Rowan looks up to her a lot because of that.

Koemi: she has a lot of favorite people, many idols, a few being Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex (MUCH of the original aesthetic for the comic actually came from this band to me, we'll see if that holds up lol), Marsha P Johnson, possibly some in universe scientists I've created (namely one named Julia who I haven't figured out a full name for yet lol), probably more that I have yet to think of TBH. BUT first and foremost, Koemi's favorite person is probably her Dad, who taught her everything she knows about mechanics and mechanical engineering from a young age! I think an important thing about Koemi tbh, is that she always has a soft spot for the little people, especially people who are talented or inspiring, but don't really make it into mainstream fame.

Alright so - I guess this may count as an announcement?

I have been desperately trying to figure out what my next project will be. Ever since I stopped writing 'Just Keep Diving Down' I've been an anxiety ridden mess searching for ideas to give a creative high. Unfortunately, nothing has grabbed my ADHD hyperfixed brain. That, along with the fact that these characters wont leave my damn head, I've decided I'm just going to keep the train rolling with them.

So I've started two new projects:

One is going to be an extension of Diving. The next journey out. But with it being so far removed from the source (The Stand) already (*I'd just be bringing along an already altered version of Glen), I might shave off the serial numbers? Original characters for all else, original concept, my own circus to clown about in. Think I might just go the original route.

The second is going to be a massive cross with many different fandoms. I had been toying with the idea since the start, being that "Jumping" worlds is a whole overarching idea from 'Something like a Spiral' and is very much continuing through Diving (Hence 'Jumping to Wonderland' as a series name). I was worried about it being too niche, but you know what, screw it. Maybe it'll just be me and @anths-girl going on another side mission alone (if she follows me here, that is). Maybe it'll just be me. But writing helps my anxiety, and that's enough of a reason as I see it.

I don't have any of the original idea written yet (would like to get a general outline before starting this). So second project it is. First stop for my OC Hayden is True Blood land:

“Oh there’s a type alright, and it’s usually not as put together as you. Makes me wonder what you’re hiding.”

Xiaowen: Home is a difficult question for her. While there are some deep-rooted memories associated with the house she grew up, it didn’t quite ever feel like home. She was eager to leave for the SF, and even as a young girl, she knew she wouldn’t really “go back”. While she does return, too much has changed, and after Xiulan’s death the only thing she feels is keeping her there is that past, which is why she leaves and only returns sporadically, eventually moving away permanently.

Funbari Hill was her true home for a while. This is a memory she shares mostly with Horohoro since they “took care” of the inn while Yoh and the rest were in Izumo. The place is linked to her friends in her mind, even if 2 out of the 6 didn’t spend a lot of time there while young. After the 6 years of wandering after the SF, returning to the inn is the first time in a long time where she feels at ease.

Soon after, she moves in with Lyserg at his townhouse in London—there’s a period of adjustment for both of them, where she’s figuring out how to live in this new place (before she arrived, he planned out her new room to the last detail and got super nervous about if she’d like it or would be comfortable). The two big changes she does is clearing the garden and keeping it tidy for Morphine (Lyserg was too busy and didn’t really know how to garden) and setting up a family shrine for his parents, grandparents, and Xiulan. She was actually pretty nervous about that change since it wasn’t his tradition, but she explained that she had to set up something for Xiulan and if she only put up her portrait, Xiulan’s spirit would believe this was her house now and “get a big head” about it. Lyserg is grateful for that and all the changes around the house that show that she’s part of his life now, and it’s a turning point for her to finally feel like she has a home Zinc: It’s his parent’s house and the rest of the village. It’s not very big and the whole village is a bit rustic, but they’ve got what they need and in my hc it still keeps contact with the outside world in certain ways. The house itself is up in a higher part of the village and overlooks the center; it’s not very big but he grew up there and once he turned 14 he got an extension at the top which became his own house. He had everything he needed to live there but he still mostly spent time at his parents’ floor, and the deal went that if he ever got married, his part would be expanded to be a proper family home. He used to daydream about that a lot, but he knew that he wouldn’t get to have it. Even when he fantasized about moving away to a big city and living there, he knew he could always come back. Once he comes back during The Super Star, he lives in Joco’s 1-bedroom apartment and his bed is nominally the couch in the living room. At the worst times when he’s dealing with the anger and pain of the village’s destruction he tells himself his home extends to the edge of the rug. Joco does move him to “their” bed pretty quickly though, even if Zinc feels like they’re not in a committed relationship to warrant sharing a bed all the time. But it helps a lot in helping him feel more at ease, and they get into a routine that feels a lot like what he’d wanted about moving to a city and living on his own when he was younger.

🍂 Does your OC enjoy hugs? What do they do as a show of affection for: their friends, their family, their significant other(s) or for strangers? Over all what are they like with recieving affection from others?

Xiaowen: When she’s young, hugs are strange to her and she tends to freeze up and not reciprocate, but luckily for her most of her friends aren’t very huggy people, except Joco, who’s the likeliest to randomly hug her and she doesn’t understand why. She didn’t get much hugs or physical affection when growing up. So she is touch-starved to high hell. She shows affection to friends mainly by being there and listening to what they have to say. She shows a lot of interest in them and once she’s comfortable around someone likes to seek them out and just talk. She’s quick to offer a smile, and if they want to do something specific, she’ll go along with them even if she’s not personally interested in the activity.

A big part of the reason she’s good with kids is because she’s a lot more comfortable with hugging and roughhousing with them than with other adults.

Once she gets together with Lyserg, he does tend to show more physical affection and closeness, although not often in public, but the reaching out for a hand, or offering a hug rubs off on her and she slowly starts showing it to others. She likes his hands so she’ll give him a gentleman’s kiss every so often. She’s strong enough that her hugs are really comforting, also because when she does do it she’s very genuine about it. Even before he realized his crush on her, he had this inkling that he’d want to be in her arms, even if he couldn’t quite understand that was what it was. He is now the little spoon.

Zinc: He’s ok with hugs, either casual or serious, though if it’s just an acquaintance or friend, he isn’t often the one offering the hug. That’s mainly for family and his partner. If it’s a casual situation he’ll give side-hugs and shoulder squeezes. He gives really good, strong hugs though. He’s all about acts of service when showing affection, with cooking for people being really important to him, but he’ll do you favors with little questioning and can take a bit of a caretaker role if he thinks it’ll help someone he cares about out. He also gets very protective and is always in a friend’s corner if needed.

He is a lot more touchy-feely with his partners, with hugs from behind and forehead kisses and sprawling on the couch together. This is mostly with Joco, since with Namari he was a clumsy teenager, but they did have their moments of affection. He likes playing guitar for others.

🌻 What little things do they notice about people or the world around them that make them happy? What tiny little treasures do they find in the normal every day that makes the world seem a little brighter for them?

Xiaowen: She likes mornings and the quiet they bring, usually in the context of a house where she’s the only one awake for the moment. She appreciates warm breezes and the speckled shade of trees. Watching rain pour from the roof. At the communal house there were wind chimes hanging from the tree, and she loved that sound. She likes openness in people, and she notices pretty quickly when people are trying, regardless of what they’re trying for or if they’re succeeding.

Zinc: He appreciates passion in people, and people who aren’t ashamed of being themselves. He likes good food, even if he has to make it himself, and sharing it with others. It can be something as simple as a snack to share. Music is important to him and just listening to what he likes can help a lot in improving his day. He also likes long car rides, whether he’s driving or not. His favourite time of the day is actually going to bed and things are slower, less hectic—especially when he’s with Joco.

SORANA

"I love you."

Sorana's stunned. Her eyes seemed to widen and freeze. Every inch of her wanted to run and leave. You...you didn't just say what she had just heard, did you? You loved her? Her of all people. She'd noticed it of course. Her sharpness was a curse in the ways of love. She had noticed it through your continuous actions, you'd ask to do everything for her to the point that she'd disregard the other servants because you always came up first.

"I..." She hesitates as she knew you'd be hurt but it was better for your sake. "I apologize but I do not love you the way you do for me." She gives a regretful and apologetic smile as she felt the hurt in your eyes. But it had to be done. Loving a Misheru was not the same as loving a HellFire, Tsuki, or even a Damaris. Loving a Misheru meant being the target of everyone around you, and she didn't want your life to be that way. As you ran off tears in your eyes, Sorana sighed, eyes following your retreating figure. ‘Sorry but I don't want you in danger.’

LEGIS

"I am in love with you, Legis."

Had he noticed your love for him? No, because this man was oblivious as hell. He had no clue until this very moment itself.

Legis has lost himself in confusion and processed the words. Love...him? He felt like he was going to pass out. Confusion and relief filled him surely. He loved you back but.... What reasons were you to fall in love with a Damaris like him? Not to mention the failure one. Instead of pondering on it any longer he just smiled warmly and whispered. "I love you too."

LUCIFER

The words were foolish. Utterly ridiculous. Did you not know how much of a danger and a pain it is to be married to a HellFire? And the youngest one at that. He was annoyed. He didn't have time to love you as he had other matters such as proving himself to his father and his smug brothers. There was no place for love in his life right now. He knew this well. Not when he was in the middle of all these battles.

"I apologize, but I must refuse as I do not feel the same way." He said, his voice cold and tone blunt. He didn't notice those eyes that glistened with tears. He didn't notice the hurt in your heart wishing that he'd said otherwise. You were just at the wrong time to ask. If it had been later, perhaps he would've agreed. But no, the deities thought differently.
