i love makoto so much but fanon does her so much better (the good parts of the fandom) because in the game her character is so lack luster. they butchered her confidant it is so borning and not even about her. they made her a cop. A COP. they pushed this "canon waifu" role onto her (before sumire came along and did it Even Worse). and it SUCKS because SHE IS SO MUCH MORE!!! SHE IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!! SHE COULD'VE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER!!! the way i feel about canon makoto is the same way i feel about the canon ryuji events post komoshida where he's horribly mistreated and used purely as comic relief: i ignore them <3 my game now <3 never happened <3 my ocs <3
You are so right. I generally apply this to all characters in p5 bc the game does such a shit job of staying consistent with character arcs and personalities. Theres a desperate need to throw in perverse jokes at the expense of female characters and a need to show that the police (as a whole) are reliable people who are not influenced by things like money and power; only the BAD cops do that. Not to mention this obvious fatphobia and homophobia but i feel likes thats a given.
But back to Makoto. Shes a victim of bad writing just like everyone else. Ryuji during the kamoshida arc was fighting with self loathing and genuine anxiety, and aside from the like. One comment on Panthers outfit in the metaverse, hes more than well behaved. All of that is shelved as soon as Kamoshida is gone and replaced with him being weird comic relief (and the focus of alot of sexual jokes that were nonexistent in the beginning of the game). Anns arc about self love and empowerment is completely dropped as soon as the nasty bad guy is put away (so that its good to be weird about her w the Good Guys). Makoto loses her a chunk of her personality to be the mature waifu which is INSANE to me bc shes like. Not okay or normal at all 😭😭😭 she THINKS shes responsible and so does everyone else on her team, but its an act! She doesnt know shit! And she doesnt know that she doesnt know shit bc shes respectful and adults dont care about anything as long as u respect them!
Its very telling that for literally every single thief (and goro), you can see the exact moment the writers gave up on adding anything of worth to their characters outside of the social links. Its like they didnt know what to even do w the characters at their disposal after their main arcs were complete. No mention of friends hanging out without you, no mention of having group hangouts. Everyone is treated as a core, important member of the friend group DURING their arc, but outside of it, they are acquaintances at best. Theres nothing in the game that convinces you that these guys are legitimately friends who care for each other and do Friend Things. And i describe it like that bc there IS a game that treats them all as friends, and its strikers! Strikers/Scramble genuinely feels like the game p5 wanted to be; a road trip w your team where they stay up at night talking to each other and hanging out and doing things together that dont necessarily include you, the player. Its refreshing and lovely but it sucks that u get that kind of attention to detail in a ‘spinoff’ title

58 for the drabbles :)
58 - someone ends up on a rooftop
I had quite a lot of characters I thought would work with this because tbh there are a lot of rooftop scenes in disney channel (or similar) shows, but since I’ve been meaning to write something for my future GMW AU I thought this would be a good opportunity, so here’s Maya, and then Farkle, who end up on a rooftop :)
now finishing this I made this really angsty which is a first for me, I'm more of a bittersweet writer than a full angst writer so this might be questionable lmao ALSO not sure how much this fits the prompt? technically they are on a rooftop but I couldn't be bothered to actually write the build up to them getting there so this is what I've got
It wasn’t the first time Farkle had been so persistent with stuff like this. Maya remembered how pushy he was last year with Riley’s feelings for Lucas, so it didn’t surprise her that he was fighting so hard to know what was going on, but it wasn’t any less annoying. He was bad enough when she came out, sure he was super supportive, but when you’re terrified about what any of this means, and trying to figure it out, it doesn’t help feeling like someone’s breath is on your neck, waiting for you to snap and spill everything. It's just really annoying.
That was what led her here. Running up the stairs instead of taking the elevator which could only trap her easier with Farkle’s insistent repetition of ‘you’re gonna have to tell us someday’ and ‘you know you can talk to us’ in a confined space. Pushing the bar to open the exit door onto the rooftop and finally being able to breathe. Finally, some space.
She tried to question why she even showed up if she knew what Farkle would start thinking, but she couldn’t help herself. She had to go to Riley’s apartment when she sounded so adorably excited to invite the group over for pizza and board games like old times. Her smile was so bright and she was so delighted as she dragged Maya into the living room and onto the couch beside her, clutching her arm tightly as they almost collapsed trying to sit down with all Riley’s energy. Her eyes lit up as she heard the boys over the speaker and skipped across the room to buzz them in, and she just as eagerly returned to Maya’s side as she did before.
It was her fault really. It was totally Maya’s fault she was being interrogated for looking so dejected as Riley shuffled over to Lucas and grabbed his hand as they partnered up for the next game. It was totally her fault for looking like a kicked puppy when Lucas made Riley laugh and wrapped an arm around her waist. When she and Maya won the first game together, and Riley threw her arms around her in a messy hug until they toppled over laughing, she felt Farkle staring at her. The same stare he held the whole night. Sure. Her fault.
But her peace and quiet and space to sulk couldn’t possibly last long, as while she was pouting, leaning against the wall looking out at the city, she heard the door swing open and closed behind the last person she wanted to see right now. Farkle. Of course.
“Maya we need to talk.”
“No, Farkle, you need to talk, I’m fine.”
“Really? You didn’t look fine. You were so happy when we started tonight. Why won’t you tell me what happened?”
Maya laughed uncomfortably. “Nothing happened Farkle! Okay? There’s nothing to tell?”
“Then why did you look so upset with Lucas after the first game?”
“I didn’t! I- I swear to god if one more person thinks everything is about Lucas I might jump off this roof, weren’t you listening a couple months ago, you know when you wouldn’t leave me alone?” Maya’s voice broke, and tears started pooling in her eyes. That cut harder than she meant it to.
Farkle shifted on the spot, holding his arm with the opposite hand and looking down at the ground in front of her feet. “I’m sorry Maya. That’s not what I meant. I never meant to push you before you were ready I-”
“No! That’s exactly what you were doing! Don’t you remember what happened when you told everyone Riley likes Lucas, right here?” She dramatically gestured to the area around them, walking away to sit on the bench in the left corner, avoiding eye contact. “You pushed them and it hurt us. We deserve to deal with those feelings on our own time, not yours.”
“But it worked, didn’t it? You guys figured it out, and now Riley and Lucas are happy together and you’re back to being yourself again.”
“I was always myself, I was getting better Farkle! Nobody seems to get that! And so what it worked, do you realise how much that hurt us? Did you really not see that she wasn’t ready? What if it didn’t work out, what if telling everyone that ruined us for good, would you still do it?”
“I would, Maya. You all deserved to know the truth, and nothing did ruin us. Nothing ever will, Riley always tells us that.”
“She doesn’t know what could ruin us.” Maya laughed coldly.
“Is that what this is about? You’re scared something is gonna mess things up again?”
Maya dropped her gaze to the floor, gripped the wood of the bench seat tighter and took a deep breath, trying to speak without crying.
“It will. I can’t do this Farkle you can’t do to me what you did to her, I’m not ready. Okay? Please. Don’t tell anyone.”
“I won’t. What’s going on Maya?”
Something snapped. The pressure that had been building in her chest that left a lump in her throat finally burst, sending out choked sobs as her grip loosened. Farkle ran over and sat beside her, reaching out to hold her hand as she calmed down and brought her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. “Maya, talk to me. I promise, I won’t say anything.”
“I don’t believe you,” Maya half laughed, half cried, “ But who cares at this point. It’s killing me. Watching her so happy to see all of us, sitting so close to me and then just moving away. She’s too close but so far away and I hate it, I don’t know what to do Farkle, I’m drowning.”
“Who? Riley? What do you mean? She’s your best friend, she’ll never be too far away.”
“I know she’s my best friend, but that’s all she is, she’ll never be anything more than that and watching her with Lucas is killing me.”
Farkle’s expression softened, the realisation setting in. He shuffled closer, wrapping an arm around her back and still holding her hand with the other one. She rested her head on his shoulder, relaxing slightly as she sobbed into his chest and he shushed her gently. He paused in thought for a moment, but hesitantly replied, “Don’t worry. I won’t say anything. Do you want me to stay?” Maya nodded. “Okay.”

What are some REALLY funny/silly facts about some of your guys. If you need specifics, either anyone you're obsessing over or IAMOS guys.
My app crashed when I tried to hit send.
- aiden can be interacted with like a shimeji including the commands for like sit or jump right n stuff but no matter what you try to make them do they almost always get out a crusty png of a bag of cheetos and start playing the most annoying sounds of crunching chips
- engels arc does make me want to sob but i also cant take it very seriously because its about them realizing they really did love and adore their wife and if vivian ever found out they were having breakdowns about her death she would never stop making fun of them. engel: i miss my wife so fucking much | the vivian haunting them: LMAO FUCKING CRINGE??? THATS SO CRINGE. FUCKING LOL. WHAT A FUCKING LOSER. GOD THATS PATHETIC. I WIN MARRIAGE FOR BEING THE LAST ONE TO ADMIT MY LOVE. LMAO.
- reverie is entirely aware of viola's true identity and the fact that she intends to take over the monster realm herself. this plotline has never really affected reveries own plans in any runs of the game so they really enjoy just walking up to her and revealing they know everything. so she'll be like having a mini monologue in the kitchen and reverie walks in like hey violetta hows the evil plans going, can you move i need the microwave for my popcorn. and she looks This close to killing them but too curious to actually do that so she kinda just stares at them. it is funny to them every time
- raid makes up some wild story every run of the game to convince their friends to help them on their quest for revenge on kazooie. the stories range from "he bullied me in middle school" to "he tricked me in among us and ejected me out the airlock and i cannot forgive him". whatever works to get the rival gamer club started. in every run, kazooie has never met raid before in his entire life raid is just making shit up to start a rivalry with a guy who literally doesnt know them
