Ok so, Rythian's a human that was taken to the End (implied that the portal his scientist parents built was what allowed the endermen into the overworld) and raised to be a warlord and take over the overworld. At some point, he realized "actually this sucks" and ran away? details unclear--to the overworld, where he set up shop in the "Old World," an old Yogscast server. There, he was the resident wizard/sorcerer and played up the "totally not evil" thing. Duncan and Sjin then had a whole fight that culminated in Sjin burning everything with his fire ring and sabotaging Duncan's nuclear reactor so that it blew up and destroyed the server.
Rythian wakes up underground in the New World (colloquially called Tekkitopia or whatever by fans back in the day, usually in fics) and sets off to get revenge. He scams Sjin and Sips by pretending to be an employee of the new Sipsco, wanting to get items. It totally works, and he disappears to set up shop elsewhere. As he's scoping out an area, Zoey falls from the sky!!! Cue Blackrock.
There's some really fun tidbits like Rythian's enderbane sword burning him because of how end magic because interwoven with his being. Quote from Rythian: "From birth he was trained to use the powers of the End, and while he eventually adopted different disciplines of magic, the End left it’s mark. Enough to make the Enderbane hurt him, but not enough to do any worse."
More on Enderbane: "...the idea was that it was created and enchanted by magesmiths from the Realm of Twilight in ages past, and used in a war between the two peoples long ago. The weapon was used to great effect to slay Endermen, but what really helped win the war was the realm-wide aura that nullified/subdued/limited the use of End magic."
The wraps on his hands are from Enderbane burning his skin :) (We know this because Dusty asked him. Thanks Dusty!)
His hair streaks: According to Rythian, the hair streaks are because "powerful acts of magic have a physical cost." After healing Zoey between seasons one and two, he gets some gray streaks. The blond hair streak is from a past act of magic that has slowly been healing over time. Which has absolutely batshit implications bro what did he do

Also Youth on the Blackrock playlist is also perfect,,, I can’t fully word just how much it’s perfect for it but I think at least one “setting fire to our insides for fun” is either rythian getting drunk at Ravs’ tavern or wrecklessly using Enderbane after the attack on Blackrock the queen did,,

Valentine’s Day Prompts
16. “I know we had a date tonight but I got called in for work.”
(a vague modern au i suppose??? idk)
“Again?” Cassie said, her pout clear through the reciever. “But we’ve been planning this dinner for weeks!”
“Sorry babe.” Kinessa answered as apologetically as she could muster. At least they weren’t face-timing, otherwise she didn’t know if she could take Cassie’s disappointed face. “Busy season, y’know?”
Cassie hmmed unhappily. “Yeah, it’s just, I was really looking forwards to spending time with you. Sometimes it feels like all you do is eat, sleep, and work. You don’t have time for us anymore.”
Kinessa tried to not let it sting more than it did. Cassie was right, she’s always right, but tonight was an important night for Kinessa. She glanced to the side where the jewellery catalogue was pressed open and a picture of a beautiful silver ring had been circled several times in a black marker. “It’s just for a few more days, then we can go somewhere nice for a weekend or something. We’ll even bring Ziggs if you want.”
“...promise?”
“Pinky promise. How’s the clinic?”
It felt bad to change subjects so suddenly, and she could feel the disapproval radiating off Cassie, but she didn’t want a fight of all nights. Luckily, neither did Cassie, because she started talking about her day and the animals she treated. They managed to end on a lighter note than they started, even if Cassie’s goodbye felt more forlorn than heartfelt. Kinessa gazed at her phone for a moment, then turned it off and tossed it onto the hotel bed. She can’t afford to be distracted right not.
She was still feeling vaguely guilty as she opened her briefcase and pulled out her sniper rifle, setting it up effieciently by the window. She peered through the scope and smiled when she saw her target in the opposite building, practically asking to be shot at, especially when he started macking with a woman who definitely did not look like the ex-girlfriend who contacted Kinessa in the first place.
It turns out Valentine’s Day also happened to be the worst day to break up with one’s partner, and a lot of people like to have revenge served with a bullet. ‘Hey, money’s money.’ Kinessa reflected as she laid a finger on the trigger. She’s got a girl to spoil for the weekend.

That month was probably nerve wracking for him in more ways than one,,, worried about complications with her arm, knowing his magic wasn’t working right and having to adapt to it, and as he says in one episode he can hear endermen from MILES away. Probably sucked for him being kinda unable to hold Enderbane and hearing endermen in the distance and knowing zoeya wasn’t near her, even if she was safe in the hospital in sick bay she was still far from their little camp,,

Also thinking about the fact that Rythian can hear endermen from MILES away,, how many nights was he kept awake, hearing them far, far in the distance? Too far to bother seeking out but still too, too close
Not to mention when Zoeya was healing, and he didn’t have her comfort to turn to and probably didn’t want to worry her. Just hearing them… and he had used so much of his magic, his End magic specifically. Wonder if that made Enderbane hurt more… wonder if it made him feel more unsafe. Like he couldn’t stop them if they did attack

a gift for the love y'all have given to my minecraft inspired d&d items... some items inspired by various MCYT series! these were super super fun
note: all of these items are artifacts, meaning they're one of a kind, and the implications of their origins are in the description. this means if you choose to use any of them, it's up to you how you'd balance them, deciding what level a player could get them at and how rare they are. i am also not a DM, so if your players create any game breaking strats, don't blame me! images are edited stock images lol.
under the cut is the item's source material and a little explanation of my choices in making them
Red Winter Axe: The renamed enchanted Diamond Axe from 3rd Life Ren had Martyn kill him with. Went with cold damage for the Winter part, and Fiends and Undead as being Red Life players. The "ally gains advantage against your killer" feature is inspired by how Martyn reacts to Scar killing Ren.
Twin Compasses: Tommy and Tubbo's lodestone compasses from Dream SMP. The use of the word "Willing" is to prevent them being used on tracking foes or anything of the sort, both parties must want the link to be created. The planes part is a bit finicky, but hopefully it would work.
Time King's Pocketwatch: A reference to Bdoubleo's season 8 of Hermitcraft so far. Mechanus is the plane of order and has a clockwork theme going on. The Sleep spell feature is a reference to his consistency with sleeping through the night. I'm aware clocks don't exist in "canon" d&d, but it makes sense that they would. The cross-planes time telling ability would be most useful for a player in the Feywild.
Miniature Tower of Vitality: Essentially Achievement Hunter's Tower of Pimps, specifically in YDYD season 2. This is the one I'm most uncertain about, considering how useful these spells are. Tried to balance it with still needing the components. Would probably be best for a party medium level party with no main healer.
The Enderbane: ...Who's name and basic description is directly lifted from The Blackrock Chronicle and a post on Rythian's tumblr. Another one who's balancing I'm uncertain about, but I figured it works for a high risk high reward thing, dragons aren't melee'd often...The level of exhaustion is just some flavor inspired by Rythian feeling pain when he holds it in canon.
Wings of the Crowfather: Philza. Must I explain more? Mumza is the Raven Queen here, it fits oddly well.
Sapphire of Sacrifice: The sapphire Lalna gifts Nano in Flux Buddies, which she gives back to him at the end of the series before dying killing Mother. Another high risk high reward item that'd require strategy to be most effective.
The Widow's Wreath: Scott Smajor's skin in 3rd Life. On the higher level side. Darn, now I'm sad over Flower Husbands again...
Bow of Balance: Another direct name, Jordan's bow from Mianite. Ianite is the goddess of balance, hence only neutral alignments. Fiends and Celestials are meant to be representative of Dianite and Mianite.
