I'm so ashamed of myself. I have done so much research for the 1930s noir fic and yet I missed this. I could have made them live through an extremely cold time, like, some of the most extreme weather in New York. February 1934. But nooo. I'm past that. I'm in early 1935. Fuck damn it.

#so like i think the common designs of just like a cloaked shadowy figure are nice n all #i think they can be decently creative in their own right #but i wanted to rlly mix things up a lil #ofc i wanted to take it in the furry direction to some degree #but i also wanted it to tow the line between natural and otherworldly #i wanted the 'decay' of him being a split entity to be very present in it #most prominantly being the hole in his chest revealing his heart #i tried to have a lot of holes. signs of things disentegrating. something torn but in an unnatural way.#i wanted some high contrast with the 'void' creeping around his tail; like the end of it was burnt #the yellow markings are all vaguely eye spots #the arm . it didnt quite come thru perfectly but i wanted the upper arm to be like; wirey. a cluster of ropes.#and the hand itself being armor like (decaying around the edges as well; as if it could grow further at any moment)#i went with a snake/slug body bc he only has the hand; no other limbs #i think if i do another draft i might have the hand just floating; not connected at all #ugh i dont wanna design an arthur but i do have an idea for how i wanna display John's vision on him..#like a flat hologram of eyes hovering just infront of his face #i will say i rlly like when people draw these two with like john and arthurs hands physically overlapping.. its rlly cool...#malevolent #malevolent podcast #john malevolent #art

Someone has to have written meta about how important the 1st incense burner chapter was for wangxian and how ir gave Lan wangji the catharsis he needed to stop being ashamed of his sexual desires after spending years punishing himself convinced his feelings were wrong and shameful because wy could never feel the same way about him. That the ugly feelings he had were his fault and how that made his guilt about his parents even worse

And then having Wei Ying the man he loves see them in all their raw and shameful glory, but instead of recoiling away in disgust wwx accepts them and lwj, showing him how lwj and his desires are not shameful, that wwx gets it he understands and he's into it too...and then the dream changes and becomes one of empowering lwj and giving him a chance to reclaim those teenage desires in a way that makes he feel good for once

how powerful that moment was for lwj who must have had a part of him that even in adulthood told him his teenage feelings were wrong, to finally come to the realization that he was just a kid and it's okay because those intrusive thoughts didn't make him a bad person. That even now they don't make him a bad person. That he can want and desire and be safe to explore those feelings and they aren't ugly or shameful they just exist as they are, that he can take them ans make them into something beautiful

Please tell me someone has written a better more cohesive version of this because my irl bff just finished the novel and hates lwj and I cannot handle that pleaseeeee

personally i fucking hate the british drinking culture it's just basically a countrywide fasttrack to alocholism and i hate hate hate hate seeing my friends fall into it and think its no biggie because Thats Just How It Is.

idk. take the piss all you want about americans and our shitty watered down beer and how nobody can handle their booze but i'd rather have that than being in a state of drunk every single fucking day. sorry not sorry but you shouldn't be going through an entire fucking bottle of whiskey every five fucking days. it isn't cute. it isn't funny. it isn't a way of life. thats addiction buddy. if you can't get through your days without being in a state of intoxication, thats a problem.

its a sad and desperate method of coping thinly veiled as fun and blowing off steam.

its not exclusive to brits either but thats where i happen to have people i love and care about. idk man i just don't get it. not saying we don't have issues over here bc we definitely do but like, alcoholism is one of the easier issues to curb and we do at least make a better effort at it than a hell of a lot of other places.

when i was younger i used to think it was just people being prude and puritanical about so many restrictions on booze but after growing up and realizing the serious damage growing up with two severe alcoholics did to me, i just do not understand why the rest of the world doesn't seem to take it seriously at all.

i am officially, FINALLY all caught up again in both the manga and the anime for bsd and OH BOY there are thoughts and opinions but also WHO CARES because my tags are finally FREE to be unfiltered

#hnnnnnn #i am SO happy #i am BEYOND happy #i love the arc even if i complain about it a lot #but i am also hnnnnnn…….displeased……..with a few things #the anime fr about to catch these hands #i already KNEW they were rushing it from the few episodes i had watched #but the anime is usually SO good at pacing #that i fully trusted that certain things would be slowed down for significance/impact/etc #but instead the pacing just stayed WAY too fast for me #and they ended up cutting SO many small moments that had SO much importance like im going crazy about some of them #some of the lines they cut…….#or even adjusted slightly that it drew away the impact #ugh i KNOW there was a LOT to balance and a LOT of content to get through #but i am a little disappointed that so many emotional scenes were what ended up suffering for it #this is why i don’t usually like reading the manga for animes i watch #i always end up getting disappointed by the limitations of adaptations #that being said though regardless of general limitations i don’t think some of the rushing is above criticism #and i am going to go and eat glass while seething over the particularly offensive rushing/cuts😤#OKAY DONE that’s the last i’ll say about it i would just go crazy if i didn’t vocalize it somewhere #in general i was VERY happy with the arc in both the manga and the anime i have SO much love for it #definitely a favorite for me #and THAT concludes my very vague no spoiler review #i swear one of these days my self control is going to snap #and im just going to start posting my full essays and content analysis shit about everything i watch here #but for now we’re safe and all my rants will stay spoiler free tag paragraphs instead godbless🙏
