(On a more serious note- if anything, I would characterize STBOTDI with gothic romance tropes. Although you could also argue that all three love interests are Byronic heroes, just different manifestations of that. But I enjoy the Austen comparison, y’all know how I am.)

so the reader in stbotdi's struggle with anxiety is very inspired by and essentially based off of my own. i've been doing a lot better over the last year or so but now whenever i do feel that anxiety again it's like... damn the reader really stuck with a guy who made her feel like this all the time?

i just binged stbotdi and i just wanted to say that you have this amazing ability to keep me paranoid. any scene you’ve written with johnathan is amazing, he is so perturbing. everything he does puts me on edge.
even in earlier chapters when he’s not yet the scarecrow in reader’s mind, his actions always seem to have underlying malicious intent. and every time you somehow, through the reader’s rationalizations, manage to draw it back to being “just a little strange”. it irritates me (in a good way!) how she twists it so that his glaring red flags are really “not that big of a deal if you think about it”.
also i adore how you’ve written Edward. he’s my fav and i appreciate how you don’t separate him from the riddler persona. he may be pitiful and in desperate need of a hug, but it’s also imperative to remember that he is still, first and foremost, without a doubt, a domestic terrorist!
this fic is perfectly unsettling and masterfully done. the callbacks, the parallels between characters, the recontextualization, all of it is soooo yummy.
thank you for your writing, i’m 100% sure once this is finished that i’ll come back to it at least once a year.

I think a lot of us have had relationships (friendships, situationships, etc) where we have deliberately overlooked red flags because we just wanted to have that ideal version of the relationship we've created in our heads. Realistically, the Reader at the beginning of the fic knows that the relationship with Jonathan won't last and knows that there is something wrong. BUT she also can't help but think that maybe.... maybe it will work out. Maybe she's just overthinking things, maybe it's her anxiety and trauma that makes what he does seem so double-sided. Maybe once this is all over she'll learn to trust her gut more.
I added Edward in pretty late in planning and was genuinely surprised with how much I loved writing him. His parts have been some of my favorite (and also some of the easiest parts to write, they come very naturally). I try my best to balance between He's Just A Guy and He Has Killed People, because a lot of fics pick one or the other and run with it. But where Jonathan is genuinely a cruel and bad person, I view Edward as being a normal man who was pushed too far and does bad things as a result. I'm not sure if that distinction makes sense, but it does to me and it's how I try to write them...
Anyway, thank you so much!!!!! With my longer fics, I try to challenge myself and one of my goals was to work on writing tension and creating a dark atmosphere. Whether or not I've fully accomplished that, it's been good practice! <3333

thinking about one of the potential mini-sequel ideas for STBOTDI (that's literally only canon if you want it to be lmao) but it wouldn't take place in Gotham so like. would that ruin the vibe? maybe. but do I emotionally need to write it? probably.
#I have a lot of thoughts about what I'll write once STBOTDI is complete#but I do really want to write some mini-sequels about each of the relationships#even if they weren't the 'endgame' of the OG fic#and none of the mini-sequels would be the 'actual' follow-up#they are all true and false at the same time#if that makes sense.#like when you play a visual novel and there isn't a true route#it's all how you view it

so right by putting delicate on bruce!!!! i was listening to it these days and i was thinking “dam… so bruce and reader codded” i can definitely see Bruce thinking: “Is it cool that I said all that? Is it chill that you're in my head?” like he rethinks everything he said to her and tries to act chill about it…
YES! I've always associated that song with them and I think it works well from both of their perspectives.
listen to the bridge from bruce's POV though.... the yearning.....
Also I've said it before and I'll say it again, but reputation is very Bruce + Reader. Like there's a few songs I associate with the other men but as a whole it's pretty Bruce/mc. The only difference is the reader doesn't really have like... a public reputation to ruin. (yet! going public places with bruce won't exactly keep her out of the public eye...)

OKAY my favorite thing tho is when people comment as they're reading like 'i can't decide between bruce and jon' and im thinking like.... honey you havent even met edward yet!!!!!
(i love when ppl comment on the chapters as they read through STBOTDI bc i love seeing their reactions to everything that happens. it's the one thing that wattpad does better than any other fanfic site and that's allowing people to essentially annotate the work with their comments.)

I'm so ready to write them! This next chapter (14) is very plot heavy but the one after (15) is going to be very focused on them, I think, with less plot (some plot though). The calm before the storm, if you will (or maybe the eye of the storm, depending on how you view the events in ch 14?)
