Aira and his problematic situation
Warning:
This is my ted talk, it will be long, some will be alittle hard to understand.
Yes, the racist topic is being mentions.
No, I do not made this to defend Aira. He is racist. I do not take any action do defend him.
If you disagree with my idea, then go ahead. Everyone got an idea of their own.
BUT DON'T DO ANYTHING WILD, if you hate me for this post I made, text it to me only, do not attack anyone or do anything that is unnecessary.
IF, you don't want to read all this, let me keep it short:
Aira is racist in his way of speaking. And you'll have to accept this fact no matter what.
The writer did a good job on this because they tried to write a ( painfully ) accurate character. They want to address this topic in a serious matter, not in a "That guy racist? That's okay, let me tell him not to and then he'll get better in one second". In real life, nothing changes with just one small piece of advice.
Whatever happens in the future, you don't need to come back here, because this is not a post about it, I only address the matter where they treated the writers like an evil person and wrote Aira badly just because the writers want to talk about racism problems seriously through Aira character.
THIS WILL HAVE SOME TOUCHY TOPICS SO IF YOU DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT RACISM AND AIRA'S SITUATION TODAY. PLEASE, YOU DON'T NEED TO READ ALL THIS.
I haven't even read the new ALKALOID/Crazy: B climax yet but I saw people keep calling out Aira and his racist problem.
That's a good thing, yeh, good because you know what's wrong with his character.
But also...honestly, some of y'a are just too...idk...too much?
I mean, we already know he's racist, and after the climax story came out, where he got to interact with Hiiro's hometown, no, he didn't become more racist, the environment changed and that made his problem more clearly to be seen.
Like how you can see black things more clearly on a white background.
I know that RACISM IS BAD, of course, it's bad! But also, please take the time you need to understand this matter in more depth than it seems to be because Aira's character is not that simple of a playful and badmouthing other race type of character. And you don't need to keep shouting into his face "YOU ARE RACIST, THAT MEAN YOU'RE A BAD CHARACTER, WE DON'T LIKE YOU ANYMORE"
The fact that he IS A BIG FAN of idols and always talks about them made some give him the typical type of a hardcore idol/ influencer fan.
"Yeh, Aira? That guy? He likes idols, but he's racist."
Now... you know he's 1/4 French right?
It has nothing to do with him ONLY IF no one in the ES world mentions that fact to his face. Aira himself clarified that people often ask him about his looks and if he can speak French or not to the point that it was so annoying to him.
And that made him easily get angry when mentioned that matter.
You may find the way Aira treats Hiiro is un-settle, the first time they met, Aira had an edge attitude that can make you feel a little uncomfortable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it makes sense...Aira was scared, he was in a new place, meeting new people.
Please don't point out that moment and went: "Yeah, he was already hate Hiiro from the beginning."
Now, if I put you in a small room, with different people you've never met before, do you feel comfortable?
Under any circumstance, please do not look at Aira in a "He's just a normal fanboy character" type. He has the depth of an ES character.
Every ES character is unique, and is various in many forms and shapes, in every different way.
Putting Aira and other characters under the name of a "typical type" did not just harm their image but it will harm you too.
Since you're the one who thinks of it that way.
Humans, we often like to put things under control, to give things a name, and to see some things as one and it will always be that way has both its pros and cons.
Make things easy to understand, but once it gets out of control, out of what you want it to be, they start to hate it, to call it strange.
Once again, I must tell you this fact, that no character is support to make for your happiness.
A flawless character being portrayed in media is made to be nice and to market it more easily. They don't want what is bad for them, they don't want the fan to get hurt and start attacking them.
But that doesn't mean, there is never a case where they'll mention it.
Racist, homophobic, abuse.
The story always paints a picture of a bad guy defeated by all the good guys then they become better, but...
It just...not it. Real life is not that simple...
It's not just "Y'a homophobic? Nah, I gonna slap that out of you" and it will be over.
The way Akira and other writers want is an accurate one. They don't want to walk on the road of writing a "typical type" character.
There is no reality where everything can be fixed in one go, there is no reality when things are getting better with only one small advice.
If you can fix some things so easily, if you can just tell people not to be racist and they'll be racist no more...then what is even happening out there, where different people get treated differently every day just because they were born with different skin color.
At work, on the street, and what did you see in the news?
War of different races? No more, you said it, just tell them not to.
THAT'S IT, I WISH IT WAS THAT SIMPLE.
But no...it was never like that...
And that is what Akira and other writers were aiming for. The painful accuracy of reality.
I'm not here to defend Aira. I'm not here to tell you that he's not a bad person because racism is everywhere.
I'm telling you, AIRA IS A GOOD-WRITTEN CHARACTER. He's a bad person, and that is what makes him a good-written character.
A good-written character is a character that makes us feel real. It's not just because they are kind, it's not because everybody loves them.
They are a good-written character...because...they tell you about the painful truth of reality. Life, where even art is hard to depict it, yet that one character was about to tell you about such things, reflects the terrible of the real world.
No one is a good person, there will be people who hate them. There will be people who hate you, somewhere out there, for a reason or not, someone will take that role. Someone out there will hate me, I don't know either, do they hate me for who I am? How I look? The way I act?
We'll never know, but often, reality is full of both sides, love and hate.
And Akira with other writers had did a good job on that.
They told us to look at a character in both ways, there are things you love about them, but also things you hate about them.
Now, I'll ask you this. Do you know why some writers are scared to write?
They are scared of other opinions, they're scared they will hate their story, their character, and the way they write.
But the writers of ES don't, they don't fear of doing it, they want to tell us a story through Aira, a story of racism, and they did...but of course, there's a cost.
Letting us know, that Aira is not a flawless character is one thing, it broke the dreams of people who want to get into this fake world of games to hide from reality and got slapped in the face with another reality in this game.
Let alone the racist problem, where people don't understand and didn't take the writing of Aira's story well, they simply view him as "A racist character", in one dimension but miss the part where there is a reason for the writers to write him like this.
He is quite racist, yes, but why? Have you ever questioned that?
Before you ask me any questions, I want you to remember how have you been in primary school.
Out of topic? Just do it, recall those days of youth. What did your teacher do when a student made a big mistake?
I don't know how your school is, but some will take that mistake of the student and tell it to other students, let them see what did that student wrong, why, where, and what made the things that they did is wrong.
With that in mind, that is what Akira and the others are doing. They point out Aira's action. They let us see how it happened, what happened, what did he said.
By showing us his actions, they can now point out why this is wrong.
Can you imagine Aira being racist just because other characters or the writers just said in their interview: "Hey, this dude is racist."
Would you ever know? Would you believe in them?
Even if god just pops up out of nowhere, calling Aira a racist, who would believe it?
It got to be Aira himself, it is the racist character that shows us, WHAT REALLY IS RACIST.
And it is the other character who will let us know what's wrong with that racist character.
It not only lets us know that racism is bad, but it also lets us see that racism IS REALLY BAD, even in that world, in ES. People, and characters there know what is wrong, what is right. They didn't let Aira slide, telling us that racism is bad, no matter who you are.
If one argues that why don't they do something more with Aira?
What you do want them to do? Take him back to primary school?
Racism in ways of speaking is his problem, and it will be him to solve the himself. With that being said, it is also why it took Aira so slowly to change.
Did he change? We don't know what road Akira and others going to make him walk on. But slowly sure is.
People don't change easily, and that is what the writers want, to show us how hard it is for a human to change their ideal of what is right.
If one already assumes that what they say is the right thing to say, it will be really hard to pull it out of their mouth and mind.
No one is the same, you know.
The way Aira interacts with racism is different than you, everyone else has it differently, and every character too.
Even if Aira himself confirms with his mouth that: "Alright, being racist is bad" his definition of it may be different.
If I stand here and tell you that I've done something bad before, you would believe me, don't you? But did I show you any proof? What the bad things I did and why does it matter to me?
Aira may say that he hates racism, but in his mind, it is a whole different thing.
I can't point out what exactly was it, I'm not Aira nor am I his writer. But what I can tell you is that racism is more than just "Hating on others skin color"
And, that is what made people point out some of Aira's problematic way of speaking.
What did he said? Did he have any hatred of Hiiro's skin color? No, he's being racist because of the way he talks filthy about him and his hometown.
In his mind, he doesn't believe that was such an action of racism.
But to everyone else, to the real definition of racism, he did said something bad right there.
And no, you don't get to have a second take on this. He got his carry and kind good side, and that is a part of his bad side. Like a human, we all have both sides.
No such thing as "Maybe we just need to let him know what he did was wrong, maybe he'll change and get better." will do.
Yes, we should absolutely let him know, but keep this in mind, Akira and others want to write a character that reflects reality, not just there for the act, not there for an NPC.
Can you really change something you already believed in for so long, the one that had become a bad hobby just by some advice?
Changing Aira's problem is not impossible but to be able to do it, it will take us on a long journey of understanding and slowly changing it himself.
He had to understand why was it wrong, and what made it a bad thing. Why everyone doesn't agree with his ideal.
Take as much time as you want, but if you don't realize what is wrong with the things you have, you'll keep it in you until the day you die.
Why does it matter to change? That is what Aira needs to understand.
Why does it matter to change his way of talking? Because it's racist?
No, he needs to know the depth of this problem. Because everyone it equal, why watch others as something different when we are all human, why need to fix his racism? Because the way he treats others is a loss of social justice.
I don't know what will happen in the future, I can't predict it, but I wish Akira and other writers to treat this topic with caution.
We don't know what road they're going to take, for now, they simply show you the problem. Telling us that we have to see what is the problem, and maybe, in the future, they'll let us see how they solve it.
Last but not least, I don't think blaming Akira and screaming his name and cursing him will help.
ES has more than just him being the writer on this game.
The decision they have to make for Aira's character is not determined by Akira alone.
I mean, he could try? But if other writers don't agree with it, it won't be on the game at the end. All the writers have to learn how to do teamwork, if not, they will lose the club on the story even if they're the ones who write it.
But I won't stop you, go ahead and scream with all your might if you want.
I just want you to understand that, what they did with Aira's character is a good thing.
It is a small way to portray the hideousness of reality. I'm so happy that they're brave enough to take this problem and show it to the world.
They're not scared of telling us a story that needs to be told for years.
Then again, I would like to warn you that this post, what I have written today might not be a line with what will happen with Aira in the future.
This post was never about Aira in the future. I just want to tell you that, they'd take Aira's characteristics seriously in this matter.
Will they address this problem rightfully or terribly? It depends on them, I'm not a god so...idk.
The "Aira is racist" was never a random topic, he had it for a long time. It was not a random decision, they had a plan for him, maybe a journey to become better with that problem of his?
Whatever that is, pls, if any new Aira story coming up, don't come back here and say that I was wrong. I was never right from the beginning. It is about now, about the topic when the Alkaloid/Crazy: climax arrived. Not for what will happen later on, but, maybe, I'll see you in another TED talk when Aira has changed something about his problem.
What is important has to be mentioned again:
I don't need you to take pity on Aira nor do I want you to ignore the fact that Aira has some problematic side.
This is not a post to defend or talk bad about Aira, I just want you to understand what the writer is doing with his character.

So true, king.
To me, even if Aira just a quarter French, it is an important things to point out about his look. He said it himself that people do find it different and strange about his look. And that take up to 70% of how they recognize him that he is slightly different from a normal Japanese.
Like it or not, we do judge people by our eyes. Like all the dam time.
I STILL REMEMBER THE TIME AT new year festival when there was a person that had a darker skin tone walk by and someone near me just shouted that that person is a foreigner. LIKE within a second, they don’t even took a second guess or asking that person directly, they just look and assume it themselves.
We do that more often than we thoughts, and that also what made Aira feel uncomfortable about. How people just asking him on and on about his different look and assume that he’s from another country or a half blood France.
I’m not going to take action and defend Aira. Just want to point out about how accurate the situation is.
Sometime people are just…not so polite…
And yes he is racist, but he got a point, it made sense why he’s like that.
What he experienced is not what Hiiro experienced, yet us human often use our own feeling to judge the situation of others. We don’t know how others view about it, and can we? Never. Never can we. Everyone grow up in different ways, different thinking, different education, no one can think the same.
Aira can’t understand what Hiiro been through nor did Hiiro understand it, but Hiiro accepted that.
He’s new and know nothing about the world, he knew Aira is different than he, everyone here is different. But Aira being racist in Hiiro eyes is just a type of madness, and think that it will be ok if he had time to let it out.
It a behave of wanted to help other but don’t know how to, the action Hiiro could take to comfort someone he hardly understand is limited. Even if he learn lots of new things, it not like he can just turn into Aira and understand him right away. So Hiiro tell him to “Let it out”, but when you get mad, you either scream, talking loudly or throwing stuff right?
Hiiro understand that “Let it out” cannot be the only way to calm a angry person down, it doesn’t satisfy their madness so it a “Let it out on me”.
The problem also came from Hiiro and the condition he was lived in. Everyone in his home town treated him like an idiot, so he really though that he was one. Clearly brainwashed for a small child like him to think he has been that stupid.
But he still wanted to help people, he never back down, he wanted to help Rinne and others. And he use himself to do it, because to him, he had no value, so people can just use him whoever they want, IF IT Helps.
So Aira is having his hard time while Hiiro is trying to help. It should be over soon right?
The thing is, racist isn't like a type of sickness. It eating into our mind and believe even if we don’t realize that.
It's not just “Hey, stop being racist” for 10 times then it going to stop.
If Akira and other writers really want to go down that road and make Aira stop this action of his...it going to be rough, like really rough...if they want to flesh out that.
Making Aira realize what his problem is, is already something really hard to do. It's something that accidentally turns into a part of him, is not as hard as pulling out your heart, but it is not easy either. Just like smoking, you know it's bad but you can't easily quit it.
( what the hell am I doing at 11p.m.)
the new alkakurei story is so wild like aira KNOWS how it hurts to be stereotyped and yet somehow doesn't have awareness that him doing it to others deals the same kind of harm. IT'S BEEN 4 YEARS how have the writers not dealt with this issue yet
ITS LIKE A RETCON BECAUSE AIRA SAYS THIS AND (shakes hands)

Natsume Sakasaki -Analysis
(from Reminiscences Selection ELEMENT)
and more?
DISCLAIMER + WARNING!!!
I said it before, but I'll have to say it again that this is my PERSONAL ANALYSIS. If anything feels out of place, pls, feel free to have your own thoughts on this. ( Maybe your p.o.v is different from mine )
My English is bad...sorry, but I'll continue to improve it!
I'm not good with analysis so if anything makes you confused, pls do ask. I would love to help you with any problem(that I'm capable of)
Ok~ Let's go!
For those who think the war didn't affect on Natsume much since he looked un-scratch. Then, the answer is a no and yes.
I'm not going to talk about it like, fine by physic and hurt by mental because ( except Eichi ) none character at the end of the war got any physical problem on them. Mostly came from mental then it affects their physical state like Rei or Shu.
Kanata? No, he just lost his beliefs and changed for the better good ( Chiaki saved him in time )
Rei? Got sent away and later on turned into a daunting old man. In his case, he had a bad relationship with Ritsu and his mental problem affected on him made him act and do things like a granny.
Shu, got defeated and had a mental problem after that ( He's getting better later on )
Wataru is...kinda ok actually. Since he was able to figure out Eichi's plan so it didn't do much on him.
Natsume was being protected by the 2yr members of 5 Eccentic so of course, no damage was taken either.
But the thing is, Natsume wasn't able to join the real fight, most of the time, he had to stay back and watch as all his Nii-san fell apart. One by one.
Like, when all your friends got hurt but you can't do anything but stand aside and witness their fall down.
That is why he was so angry. He feels left out.
And he blames it on himself, that he's not as good as them, and that's why he never got a chance to stand up and fight with them.
Now, let's go back in time *click click the turnback button*
He does look a bit uncomfortable when he meets Tsumugi, but most of that is after he knows that Tsumugi knew he's past.
It's like: "Oh...no no, I hate that time and I hate you for being the witness of that old me. Too bad I can't make that memory disappear out of your head so I'm just kinda uncomfortable with you for remembering that stuff."
He starts to get a little un-friendly but then later on, it gets worse, when he learns that Tsumugi is a member of Fine and watches Eichi as his friend.
He goes soft when being with the 5 Eccentric for sure.
But it is still nothing compared to the mad and hatter-like after the war ended. When he ignores Tsumugi and anyone he doesn't care or give a sh^t about. ( He does care about Tsumugi. Sometimes he just acts a little unsettled with anyone he doesn't care/know about. It's not a completely don't care but...ya know what I mean )
Tumblr media
( From Chapter 3/ In the rose garden )
So, what made him become like this? It was the war.
It is a yes when it comes to the war's effect on him. It's not as heavy as Shu or Rei or a total change in look and understanding like Kanata but it did have some effect on him.
Hence, it doesn't mean that he's fine. He's better than most but not fine.
How you do think that THAT big of an event can't be able to do something to him. It does!
And to whoever writes his character, I wish your pillow cold on both sides! Because he is such an interesting character to look into.
It's worth pointing out that the feeling of Natsume being an outsider isn't just an experience for him but also for the reader, the viewer who watches the anime and Element 3D version.
Consider the fact that in each episode, an Eccentric was being defeated or was mentioned about their fall.
There was nothing about Natsume but locking himself in a room and keep on writing the script for a happy ending that he was yearning for.
Tumblr media
( this is a part of the Black Bird story/ the moment when the script got burned )
Kanata was defeated, then came Shu.
At the time Natsume was writing the script, it was already the end of it all. The situation can no longer be saved.
The Eccentric Party Night? It was all Natsume's dream.
The time when he gets to be with all his beloved Nii-san is in Episode 2. Then later on in Episode 5 when the last Eccentric are being executed.
It was the beginning and the end.
And I don't think if Natsume's plan got accepted by Wataru mean they'll win either. Yes, it is bad for the school as Wataru and Eichi mentioned in Episode 6, but I'm scared for the others who have already been defeated, can they able to gather strength after all the brutal executes their been through.
Simultaneously, the students still hate them. Their anti-fan exists.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They'll have to survive another war even if Eichi's already been taken down.
So in conclusion, if we put the Eccentric Party Night scene out of the picture, then Natsume does seem to be left out.
That why he was so mad, that why he wanted revenge. Even if none of his Nii-san want to, he wants it. Not just for them but also for himself.
He wants a chance to stand up with his own two feet, defeat the bad guy, and show all his beloved brothers that he has finally grown up.
Last but not least! He feels betrayed when Wataru joins Fine. But I think he did understand Wataru's decision. That why he still call Wataru his Nii-san, that why he just a little crappy but not a totally hated form of treatment for Wataru.
You can say he has a soft spot for Wataru, but he didn't beg nor have any rejection over it, he just went: "Why did my beloved Nii-san have to stay in the same unit as that demon...now it is even harder to take him down...what a headache."
He knows Wataru well, and lets Wataru do as he likes. And I think that was a very grown-up of him. After all that begging for the plan to be accepted by Wataru. After all that panic and suffering for his older senior to win it even if there was already no redo.
The Natsume now is calmer than before. Of course, he still has a lot to learn and more room for development, but yes, he may have some improve.
That all~ That alL~ ThaNk yOU for REAding~ XoxO!
Also made one for Tsumugi in the past if you want to read another analysis: https://www.tumblr.com/sucantslay/745663127662837760/aoba-tsumugi-analysis-from-the-animation
